So, now having had a chance to see Lindsey 5 times on his own, I have a newfound respect and admiration for his immense talent. I always new he was a gemius, but getting a chance to see him on his own showed a side of his talent I hadnt yet fully appreciated. Not anymore. I feel priveledged to have been able to participate in seeing him live.

Like always, you NEVER pronounce WHAT you so particular like or dislike about something. And in this case: WHAT side of his talent you have never fully appreciated until now? And why did you need 5 shows to come to your insight?

I guess I'm not very controversial now, am I?

What does he add live, in your perspective? It's interesting that you state that now, while you saw more SYW-shows than they performed  I'm curious because he definately adds something during these shows and because you're a big fan, it's interesting for me how you would describe what that is.

Lindsey adds an intense-ness to his live shows. When you see how he gets a kick out of saying his kids' names (and hearing people scream afterwards) during It Was You or even when he sits down to rest during World Turning to let Taku do his thang...LB's still into it. He's bobbing his head, grooving right along with Taku and Brett. The barks at the end of Holiday Road...frickin' hilarious and LB is having a blast with that. It's kinda like...the Lindsey of old when he was doing NTF on the Mirage tour and was moaning and stuff.
The man probably burps in a musical tone. He just lives and breathes it. It's awesome to witness live. :)

Okay, thanks, Christy, but didn't he do that in the SYW shows too? I know they were a little more orchestrated, but he DID shine as an artist in particular during those shows and took the stage.

I'm nowhere near knowledgeable enough about the technical aspect of Music like somone like Chili or others are. I go by sight and how the music makes me feel. As far as the difference between SYW and this tour, I think his comments about the whole machine of Fleetwood Mac and how you have to conform to that, and about how happy he is to be playing on his own says alot. I guess if I had to pick one thing, just watching him play his own songs, his babies if you will, I get the feling that he's like someone who's truly ay a happy point in his life, and it shows. To sum it up, As you know Gerald, I enjoy both Stevie and Lindsey solo equally, and one of the biggest things getting to see them live on their own does for me is enhance my overall appreciation for Fleetwood Mac in that you realize how immensely talented they both are and how lucky we are to have them together in a band as great as Fleetwood Mac.

OH YEAH...the moaning. The fact that he brought a little of that back in the Ft. Worth show...I distinctly heard him moan and say, "Oh, Baby" while practically swallowing the microphone. Let's hope THAT makes the DVD. :blob2:

So, you are asking why David didn't see the intense LB in the SYW shows, but sees it now? Perhaps because Lindsey is the main focus here whereas, you have the entity known as Fleetwood Mac in the SYW shows. LOL
He most DEFINITELY shone in the SYW shows, but when he's alone...I dunno, it's just...different. Wait until you see the Fort Worth show on DVD.
The SYW shows...like you said...orchestrated...and knowing what we know, kinda fake. The UTS shows...even though he's saying and doing the same things over and over...it feels real. He's not having to pretend or anything. Me not being a shipper, I have to beware of my gag reflex when thinking about some of the SYW stuff. LOL

David and Christy, I know I'm asking for something very difficult. But I'm NOT searching for some musician's analytic review. I just want a good image of how his performance in these shows differ from the ones I saw in '03. And the Pabst theatre video gives some insight, but I have the feeling he's grown since october.
More "real". Do you also mean more emotional, raw and unpolished? More rock'n'roll, less pose? More vulnerable maybe?

Raw, unpolished, no fakery. He's ripping that Model One a new one...just watch for his finger in the Fort Worth DVD...it was bleeding quite a bit during GYOW, and in my pic...you can still see the bloody finger. Of course, he's not destroyed a guitar ala London 2003, but...still. LOL He has loads of respect for Neale, Brett and Taku and it totally shows in their playing together. :)
I've not seen the Pabst video. I would like to see it and compare it to the FW DVD when it comes out to see how different he was in October versus January. I think he's gotten more confident and talking with so many fans on this tour, he knows what we wanna hear. ;)
Of course, you always have jacka$$es yelling out Landslide and Frozen Love at these shows.

More "real". Do you also mean more emotional, raw and unpolished? More rock'n'roll, less pose? More vulnerable maybe?Gerald, we have to sit down some time and compare notes, since someone screwed me out of going to the 2003 London shows and I was therefor not able to see a live SYW show, and you have not seen a live LB show from this tour. If you ask me, both are good, and both are not all that different. Like they have all said a million gazillion times over during SYW, the 3 men in the band had a little more room to go about their business due to the absense of Christine. Sure, Stevie did her thing, but on the songs that Stevie wasn't all that or not at all present (think Come here for example) Lindsey shone as much as he does during his solo shows. It is only natural that he be a little more reserved when he's sharing the stage with Stevie, and that he is in that regard more free during his solo shows. But, if you ask me, he was even a little crazier during SYW shows than during his solo shows, but my guess would be that it has to do with the audience response. You can't get the same response out of a 500-800 people audience than you can out of a 10.000-15.000 people audience. So, in short, yes, he seems a little more free during his solo gigs, but that's only because he can't very well do that during a FM show. The times that he could though, he was. During the last few years Lindsey had become much more of a stage presence than during the earlier days. One, because Stevie has gotten to be less of one, and two, because he gained more confidence.

Having been to more than a handful of each show I see a completely different Lindsey at the UTS dates.
I found him to be almost cocky on the SYW tour. Clearly, playing at arenas changes things.......
On the solo dates he is very human, humble, and personable.

Christy...I think I mentioned that I had Pabst. You need to see it!! I'll try to get you a copy if you want.
Also, if I might add my two cents about the shows...He's definitely grown since October!! I think he seemed rawer on this second leg than the first. I don't know if it has to do with confidence/cockiness on stage or what. But it's effing unbelievable. I saw him in Nashville (2nd show of the 1st leg) and though he sounded fantastic, his energy and presence on that stage wasn't what it is now...the first shows will be that way I suppose.
It's hard to describe. His voice seems stronger, his engery on the guitar will blow you back onto your seat, the show flows much better and he just seems so sure about the whole thing.

He shouldn't be. The man has no talent  :p
I feel dirty even having typed that lol. You're all so lucky to get to see him. If I'd the cash I'd be following him round the US :( The Pabst DVD is great. Can't wait to see a the new one later this year, especially if his voice is supposed to be stronger and the show's better :)

This is getting an interesting thread. Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for the responses everyone!
I really think one of the reasons Lindsey doesn't change setlists much is captured in an insecure personality. He needs to get comfortable in it and make it part of him to fully unleash; let's not forget, this is a man who spends years in a studio to slowly grow in a few compositions. Although he's a whole different man on stage doesn't take away the fact that he is a soul full of doubt. That is a very essential part of his artistry, and how much I would like to see this change a little, (read: more output), I can't walk away from the fact that it is him as a person. He even needs to rehash his own opinions verbally to believe in them.
So these shows are not different in that; he is growing into them and is on fire when he's in a performancerythm. I bet he's going to go over the top at one point too, we'll see in the third leg. On the other hand: a possible new drummer can be refreshing in that process.

could it also be that he's at the happiest point in his life, maybe at the pinnacle of his all-around talents, touring arguably his best solo album, and has gotten incredible fan response to this so-called "quiet introspective guitar/voice album" that just so happens to lend itself to complete emotional investment and severe ass-kicking live?
Could it be that he took a chance with an album he speaks almost dismissively of regarding it's commercial potential and people are lapping it up? That he's hitting a bullseye with his rabid fans while making an artistic statement that he found somewhat daring, yet important to make?
Could it be that while being a performer for many years, he may only now be coming into finding what exactly Lindsey Buckingham alone is?
Hell, it's not that hard - the dude is on fire and THIS is a significant time to see LB....jest duet!!!!!!!!!!

Having said that, he was no slouch on SYW either!
