just curious. or nosey, whatever. hey, i'm not forcing you to answer.

i've led a totally sheltered life, drugs-wise. i've smoked pot a couple times, the end. i've probably smoked a dozen cigarettes and i don't drink a lot. god, i sound like a puritan. oh well. i wanna hear about ledgie debauchery.

you name it, I've done it...pretty much.

except meth or crack or coke (though I'm not sure about coke).

I don't do anything anymore really except pot and Rx.

 never done heroin either. I'm not really squeemish, but blood and needles and all that really freaks me out so there's no way I could do that. if I can't smoke it or pop it, I don't want it. and these days, I rarely want that. if I want anything, it's usually a pill, but pot is the next best thing.

by the way, I've heard adderall is the bomb, but it's really rough...I had the name of a doctor that gives it out with no prob, but lost his name and number, which is best probably.

I sound like a big drughead, but I'm really not. some of my favorite "others" are Green Nike, loritab, loricet, vicodin, ambien and some sleeping pill I can't think of the name...

I've never used a needle and I've never done heroin.
I did a lot of coke in high school and college but quickly grew out of that.
Smoked pot here and there but really, it just gives me dry mouth and I get paranoid. Like, paranoid to the point where I want to go to bed and hide under my covers. Just don't like it.
I like a downer every now and then -- valium and vicodin are my favorites.
But when it comes down to it, nothing beats a good bottle of red wine!

I'm just a weed guy myself. I've never gone near any powders, chemicals, IV drugs or anything like that. I ate shrooms one time with my two best friends at a nature preserve. Ever fed ducks while you're tripping out? It's something else...

I'll never understand the allure of Coke. Who wants to be all amped up? On purpose no less? It's not for me. I'd rather just sit and chill, with a glazed happy expression on my face.

yeah, i've heard the same about adderall. just realized i also forgot ecstacy. i really should've thought this out better. maybe starting threads at 1 a.m. that you thought of in the shower isn't the best idea ...

it kinda freaks me out how easily i could get anything i wanted from this kid at work. he's tried to sell me ecstacy more times than suzanne sugarbaker said "well excuuuse me fer livin'!"

that's pretty much what Green Nikes are.

yeah, it shocks the hell out of me that some people I'd never suspect use. like, totally trips me out. especially one co-worker I used to know that was gorgeous and one of those people that you just think is perfect...perfect personality, style, look, everything...then you find out 2 years earlier she was smoking crack in some abandoned house and weighed 90 pounds...I mean, it takes pictures to prove it.

anyway...drugs are everywhere. they raided a house 4 or 5 houses down from me as a meth lab. and I live in a "nice, white, suburban" neighborhood. my area is riddled with meth labs and addicts.

as a sidenote: I think our homeowners' assoc. would die if they knew that on ONE street (my street) there is a gay couple, 2 lesbian couples and a sometime drag queen that impersonates Stevie Nicks (wonder who that is   ) living within a house or 2 of each other and we sit on the back porch smokin' weed and listening to Barbra Streisand, Xtina Aguilera and Stevie Nicks on rotation. after about 2 hours, we break out a little Tori Amos...that's when **** gets deep.

yeah. portage county (where i live) has the highest # of meth labs per capita in the state. every week there's a new meth lab that's being torn down. i don't care if people want to do drugs, really, but meth is so ****ing tragic. i know too many people who can't get off it.

exactly. a new co-worker that is 50 decided to tell me she did "ice" and that her tastebuds are now really raw. I was like, a) why are you telling me this and b) why are you telling me this. it was so weird b/c I barely know her and she was telling me her sexcapades and ****...and get this, she's dating a DEA. how weird is that? all I could think of was that TV show Weeds. anyway, I've really got to tell her I don't want to know any more cause I'm not going to be caught in the middle of anything, you know.

Well, I may come back and delete this. Really speed is the only drug I ever abused, and I started taking that in high school so I could study for the AP exams, and still do creative work. Otherwise, most of these drugs have been ingested in the spirit of experimentation, and some in spiritual quest, esp Ketamine and Mescaline and DMT.
I rarely drink, and haven't done any drug at all in over 5 years.

pot
hash
Black Beauties (Benzedrine)
Quaalude (methqualone)
dexedrine
Crystal Meth
Coke (have some sad stories of fortunes my friends lost on this overrated drug)
Ketamine
LSD
MDMA
Foxy
Psilocybin mushrooms

Also:
ritalin
PCP
heroin (smoke)
Crack

These I took just once, and the PCP was accidental, as I was seated next to someone who was smoking a Sherman cig laced with PCP, and she puffed away neglecting to tell anyone, until none of us could get up from the table.
I tried Crack once as a favor to a friend who was hooked and who asked if I would try it to see if I could understand her experience. She believed I wouldn't get hooked, and she was right—an awful, un-fun drug!

Also:
Mescaline
DMT

These fit into that spiritual realm, aloong with the K listed above.

Mushrooms are cool -- I've had some fun on them. Met Stevie the second time while on 'shrooms!
I did acid about 4 times in college and then about 8 years later with a bunch of college buddies over the holidays. We got a lot of that on video tape and it's hysterical....table dancing, face painting and spontanious song belting. Thankfully thats the last time I will do that. But it was fun. :wavey:
I remember when XTC was legal. There was a gay bar in Austin -- Hall's -- where you could buy it for $20 a pill. When it became illegal, I once did it in a powdery form and chased it with a beer. I tripped all night.
While I've done meth (back in the 80's it was called "crank") it always made me too wirey and I just hated the completely empty feeling afterwards. Freaks me out that meth is such a huge problem now.
Again...I'm much happier with a nice glass of cabernet....

For the record, I smoked crack once in the 80's. And I've never used a needle but lord knows I had many opportunities. Don't want to elaborate too much on the drug use because I don't want the youngins to get the idea that it's cool. It's fun and naughty at first and the next thing you know your life has gone to **** and you end up in rehab or worse. It wrecks your immune system too.
I've been clean from coke, mescaline, acid, shrooms and probably some other things I'm forgetting since 1997 or before for some of the aforementioned substances. I hadn't had a drop of alcohol since 97 either until some things in my life went to ****. I don't know why I even drank, I don't like it at all. I'm doing better now than I have for a long time. Life is good.
Also, I've never smoked a cigarette in my life, not even a drag.
I do have some anxiety issues and have taken rx for valium and xanax in the past.

I've done a whole lotta nothing.

Never smoked anything - not even cigs. Never snorted, sniffed, shot up, dropped, or ate any other illicit substances either. I've never gotten drunk and I've never taken prescription medications for anything other than what the doctor directed.

I guess I'm just a goody-goody that way.

Meth labs are a big problem in the mountains here. When I lived in SF, esp in the 80's and early 90's, there were so many wasted souls (mostly on crack) wandering around the Lower Haight, and the Mission, where I lived, it was really sad. The friend I mentioned was a beautiful talented girl from an upper middle class Marin family, and she was dating a crack dealer, living in a flophouse. She was lucky she had a family to intervene. There were a lot of fires in our neighborhood and we suspected labs were the cause.

I definitely don't think drugs make people exciting, and they only make for good stories if the user is a good storyteller, IMO.
You know, I was always the most cautious about drinking too much, since my dad was an alcoholic.
Oh, I forgot, my mother supposedly abused her pain meds. California. 70's
That reminds me that I used to have these intense pills for Migraine, called Fiorinal. Everyone at the restaurant I worked at wanted some and they seemed to know something I didn't, so I looked the meds up, and they had a street name, though I forget what it was. they were highly addictive, and started causing headaches.

You are absolutely right. There is definitely something about yoga that releases all of my inner psychic crap, gives me a lot of energy and makes me much more creative. It also makes me feel happy and balanced. It's such a sense of accomplishment to be able to do those poses in a 110 degree room for 90 minutes. And I so admire you for doing Ashtanga. That is not an easy practice. The meditation also does incredible things for the mind, body and spirit.

I have been very curious about the heated room, but extreme heat makes me so grumpy! You may admire me for having done Ashtanga, but unfortunately, I don't have much of a practice right now. There are scheduling issues for me now, and I am no good at keeping up my practice at home.
Yoga sort of wrings you out, muscle by muscle, and there are all sorts of discoveries to be had about yourself in the practice.

I never considered whether or not I did drugs because I was unbalanced. Of course, at the time, I felt like I approached some of those experiences in a very measured manner: I thought I was quite reponsible. In retrospect, I did many thing, unrelated to drugs (though drugs may have been present) in my teens and twenties which seemed to me to be responsible, but which were incredibly dangerous and self-destructive. Sometimes you just think you have it together, and you need an outsider to set you straight.

I have smoked cigarettes, pot, snorted coke, taken mushrooms, Extacy (Spelling?) once, speed, and different kinds of pills (valium, xanax, klonopin, etc). I'm 38 now and the only thing I still do is smoke cigarettes. I wouldn't say I'm totally against marijuana, but it's been a couple of years since I've smoked. I have noticed that some Ledgies have described painkillers in their lists and I just want to say, please be careful. Some of you know my husband's history (he's been clean for over 2 years now). His addiction started out with painkillers and eventually led to heroin. Drugs suck.

Oy.

I've done pot, I've taken speed... LSD... XTC, mushrooms, snorted coke once or twice, but the latter really wasn't my cup of tea.

I still smoke pot (hash, preferably) and regular cigarettes. The rest, not so much. I sometimes take some speed when I go clubbing, usually when I've had a loooong day and I want to dance until the wee hours of morning. But I don't go clubbing that much anymore, too busy with work and school.

Heroine scares the **** out of me, I always ran like a bat out of hell whenever someone brought it in.

I've never done any drug, and I barely even drink. Some friends baked weed into some brownies once and tried to get me to try it, but I didn't. It was entertaining watching them get ****ed up on it, though.

I think I saw my grandmother get ****ed up on Soma, Xanax, Vicodin, etc. too many times as a child to really want to have anything to do with any type of drug, or anyone who does them. There's nothing quite like watching your granny take a handful of muscle relaxers, try to eat something, and nearly choke to death because she can't swallow. Or watching her fall off your front steps and lay sprawled out on your front lawn. Or just generally stagger around and be verbally (and sometimes physically) abusive.

Oh, and then there was the time she drank peroxide in an attempt to get high.

I was a big pot head in high school. Pot was/is my drug of choice, but I rarely, if ever, use. I've snorted and smoked coke, meth, crack, a lot, used 'shrooms, (loved 'shrooms), acid, and xanax. Never got into the Rx... they scared me too badly. I kinda knew what to expect from everything else, wasn't sure what to expect from Rx. I'm proud to say that since I found myself pregnant with my daughter, I haven't touched anything except alcohol and very rarely pot.

I watched people in my family (My drug dealing Uncle, who's friends with the Allman Bros., Kansas, Joe Walsh, Willie Nelson, etc.) f**k their lives up by drug use, why would I want to follow their lead down that road? When you're in your mid 60's and still a druggie, yer life is over...I mean, how many 'get out of Jail freecards' does one get before officials realize he is a 'lost cause'???

Everybody in my family, excluding me but including my Mother, has tried marajiuana. I dont see pot that bad unless your someone who has done enough to make Cheech & Chong look sober in comparison, and that is a slam towards my oldest brother.

My older brother also did marajiuana, and he will tell you if fubar'd his military career. He started to steal to feed that habit, which must have been one helluva habit, which led to jailtime and finally dismissal from the US Army. He says the dope use was his worst mistake he made, and that NOONE twisted his hands to do it.

The only drugs I have EVER used are ones I am prescribed for medical conditions - and even then I dont take 'em as I was supposed to (ie-painkillers - sorry, I never use the f**king things. Just give me some music & relaxation time and I can make the pain go away without a medicine.)

Wonderfully stated. The heat takes some getting used to. But I crave it now. And you are so right on about the discoveries that come from using your muscles in conjunction with the meditation. It's a near complete clearing of the mind that allows you to focus on the most minute of things. In my case it's a little diamond shape on my yoga mat or a spot in the vent on the ceiling. That is all that is in my mind at that moment. And in that moment is when you can really hear what your body is telling you. It's amazing.

I'm sorry honey. At least it made you see very clearly what drug abuse is all about and kept you away from it.

any thoughts on that harmonica part late in the game? - i'll get a better one down but it is all i had at my disposal last night so i threw it in - and ya know??? - i don't hate it . . .
and how did you strain your voice?

kept trying to pronounce bretonbanquet? or a much better explanation?

i love harmonica, and i think it really fits in the song. i'm thinking about maybe adding some violin/fiddle parts? maybe? i think the voice strain had something to do with my wailing along with jenny lewis last night. :D it feels a little better now, so i'm sure it'll be fine by tomorrow.

How's he doing? It's hard for them when they come out, especially after doing a long stretch. It's like time stopped for them at the time they went in. Someone I know was a heroin addict and got caught up in that three strikes law in California. He has been in so long now that he has never used a computer in his life. He gets newspapers that are three weeks old. I could go on but you get the picture. The adjustment is really hard to make when they come out and that's part of why the rate of recidivism is so high.

Tragic. I hope your neice is doing okay. And don't give up the hope. Don't enable him either though. There really are success stories out there. Just pot here. And alcohol...and once I told a friend I had a headache, she gave me some pill and I just took it. It was in high school...and that pill was Vicodin. It was crazy but I never took it again.

Now the pot. The only reason I did that (I was a totally prude in HS, I denounced all the pot heads) was my senior year in HS I started dating this girl, well the first night I hung out at her place (she was 18 and had her own apartment) she and her friends lit up. Well I didn't want to look lame, and of course I had to impress the girl...so I also lit up.

So I smoked pot my senior year in high school and freshman year of college, but it got old. Then my nephew was born and I wanted to set a good example...and I was his nanny...pot was out of the question in my life.

Fast forward a few years I smoked again and HATED it. Hated. It was awful - I was paranoid and sick feeling....awful. I tried it once more and got the same effect so pot is no more.

Now I pretty much just drink once in a while.

OH! But once I did have the opportunity to do Coke. I was hanging out witha group of drunken/druggie lesbians...don't know why...but anyway, I agreed to do Shrooms with them as I've always wanted to try those...

I showed up at the apartment and one of them pulls out a baggie full of white powder. Now, I'm no drug expert but I knew that was not what Shrooms looked like. It was Cocaine. They couldn't get Shrooms so they got COke instead

Well I didn't agree to that, and they were basically begging me to do the coke...and my Stevie-obsessed ass at the time was incredibly incredibly tempted....they cut a line for me, laid it out in front of me....and it sat there all night, until finally they were out and my line was all that was left and they fought over it

I then left but got a call at 5am to come over for a threesome (I would have made 4) Well ha...one of them around 6am apparently flies off the handle, starts beating the **** out of the other two - cops are called - turns out the beater and another had warrants out on them...they get arrested.

And I? NEVER hang out with them again...

That, in a nutshell, is my drug history.

Then end.

Right. And I've heard (correct me if this is wrong) that you really have to be in a relaxed environment with people you trust to have a great high...is that true? It's what I've heard over the years...

Gawd..I just remembered a party I went to in HS (my and my best friend went to a lot, but would wind up sitting in corners and watching) a gal dropped acid - and later ended up SCREAMING at the top of her lungs in the middle of the living room floor - she was just writhing in pain...screaming about her skin falling off...it was awful....yet I'm still curious

For anyone who has self control(can do it once or twice, and not obsess with it), I HIGHLY recommend the above. It is, quite literally, a religious awakening, the first couple of times. It makes you see your life in a completely different light. Actually, the way that thing REALLY are, and why they are that way.

And the laughing....my gawd, the laughing. We'd usually be so sore in our chests, the next day. I remember that we walked to Taco Bell, about 3AM. Huge long line of drunks......well, I started laughing, and COULDN'T stop. It was terrible, and still so fukcing funny. Everyone's looking at us, and I couldn't stop. PRICELESS.

For me though, there is a "depressing hour" - about hour number 6 or 7. After my friend hung himself(this wasn't drug related), about 10 years ago, I couldn't face the possibility of that depressing hour(I was really fukced up over his death), so I just said no, and haven't done it since.

Wow. Good to know! But that's my fear...I've always had such an obsessive/excessive/addictive personality, I fear that I woudn't be able to stop - which is actually a contributing factor of me not wanting to do the coke.

But I've heard that acid is not actually addictive in the way that herion, coke and such are? I never had a problem walking away from pot..and my obsessive/addictive personality has lessened over the years.

Acid is still on my list of things to do.

The depressing hour though...does not sound good...is that common?

You know, I don't know. For me, it's always there. So, I just wouldn't do it, if something bad were going on at the time. But, as long as nothing terrible was going on in my life, it was tolerable. As I said, it does make you examine your life.....well, everything's not always peaches, so you do examine those aspects, too.(i.e. - my life's going nowhere, etc...)
After my friend's suicide, I just got out of the habit.

Hm...yeah, this thread is bringing back all sorts of memories...such as I just remembered a night back in '99...my friend Nigel dropped acid, then came over to where the rest of us were hanging out...he was a trip just to watch...of course he wouldn't stop humping the trees...but it was amusing to watch

Hmm...sounds like Acid wouldn't be something to try right at this point in my life...I get freaked out enough examining things while sober...but someday when circumstances are right...perhaps.

I do miss the laughing jags of pot as well...but those stopped the last two times I did it..no more uncontrollable laughter...but I always did enjoy that.

Right. And I've heard (correct me if this is wrong) that you really have to be in a relaxed environment with people you trust to have a great high...is that true? It's what I've heard over the years...

The last time I did acid was at a Grateful Dead concert. Yes folks, Jerry Garcia was still alive and Carlos Santana was on the tour with them and Bruce Hornsby was on keyboards because their other keyboard player OD'd. Santana had been busted in Texas a few days before the show here with a rather large amount of weed if memory serves. No one was sure if he was going to make it to the show because he was in jail or something. Anyway, I digress. Some guy in a mad hatter hat like Tom Petty used to wear turned around and handed me a blotter. I was in a stdium with 70,000 or so people. Luckily the acid was mellow and I'll never forget watching the almost full moon rise over the stadium. It was a very nice evening.
Before that I hadn't done acid since high school and one of the better trips I had was watching this guys face melt into the shape of a cow's while listening to the most amazing rendition (to my high as a kite ears) of The Hollies The Air That I Breathe. Every time I hear that song, I think of Tony's face melting into the shape of a cow and me laughing at the poor guy because I just couldn't help it. That time it was just four of us hanging out at Tony's place listening to his really cool stereo that he had purchased in Japan while he was in the service. There was even a lava lamp!

And you should be proud of that too. But I just have to reiterate to anyone who has panic attacks/feels like they can't breathe/has wild mood swings/feels hopeless/ can't get out of bed/has thoughts of hurting themselves, that it is not a weakness nor should they be ashamed to take medication for it. There are some very good meds out there and in some cases it's like trying to find a pair of comfortable shoes. You just have to keep trying until you find one that fits.

Then I got high at a NYW party & felt horribly sick to my stomach. Of course, it was probably the alcohol just as much (if not more) as the pot, but after that I couldn't do it. The smell of it still makes me nauseous. Better off anyway - I could lose my nursing license if I ever test + for illegal drugs, pot included.

I tried what I was told was acid once, but nothing happened, so it obviously was NOT acid. :o My husband was def. the more experimental one - he's done pretty much everything in the poll except use needles. ****, meth was what kept him alert & aware during most of his 2 year Navy enlistment. :( Thank God it wasn't readliy available here when he came home. If he had stayed in San Diego, his (and my) life would have turned out very differently, I'm quite sure.

I have actually tried nothing at all..... So I wasn't sure which option I should choose.

I love acid. I haven't done any in maybe 8 years. Not that I like the feeling (I don't) but it really makes your head feel like its sizzling. And don't watch Roger Rabbit on it...your face will truly ache from laughter.

I'll just leave my answer at:

"Yes".

(well, can't leave well enough alone) And, as much as it was all fun-times, if I'd have avoided all that, I probably wouldn't be needing the legal prescription meds the doctors have me on these days.

Ketamine Is that also known as Liquid K?

I love mushrooms...I would have some now if I could...I love the laughter it brings. I have done my share of stuff...generally wayyyyback during concerts...especially dead/floyd.

i've led a totally sheltered life, drugs-wise. i've smoked pot a couple times, the end. i've probably smoked a dozen cigarettes and i don't drink a lot. god, i sound like a puritan. oh well. i wanna hear about ledgie debauchery.

If you are a puritan...WTH does that make me? LOL I've never smoked, drank (does wine-tasting count? ) or done any drugs.

ETA: NOBODY should be ashamed of never smoking, drinking or doing drugs. Like Brian said, it's not a I'm-better-than-you-because-I've-never-done-those-things, but more of a I'm-proud-of-myself thing. :) My mom used to smoke and drink before she had me. I was a breech baby, so my mom had trouble breathing during her pregnancy. She HAD to quit smoking. I was upside down for a reason.

I've just never been interested in doing those things, plus, I went to church and a Christian school as a kid...so that had some influence and my parents did as well.

I love that story....:D

Not sure. I know that the powder form some people snort is sometimes called "Special K".
Both forms are on my list.
Interesting, but not to be played with.

I wonder if "Liquid K" is just the injectable form? I know it's used in veterinary medicine (in conjunction with equal parts Valium) as an anesthetic and has to be kept locked away when not in use because it's targeted by thieves.

o.k. so yeah. I've been wanting to post in this thread so bad, but I had to wait until all of those coke charges were dropped

anyway-I checked "other" which is really boring because it's just alcohol

I smoked pot back in high school. A lot. Then quit for awhile. Never really had the urge to smoke it again until about 2 years ago. A friend and I got some (which was more difficult than I had remembered in HS  ) and had a blast. I only did it one other time after that and had a bad experience, so no more. Up until that point I thought it was the most wonderful thing in the world. I loved the "relaxed" feeling it gave me. And then "popping" in and out of complete laughter over no apparent reason  I wouldn't be against doing it again if the right situation came up, but I don't practice it on a regular basis.

OH ****!! how could I forget?! I literally JUST remembered this. My last Fleetwood Mac concert-in Nashville  we had grass seats (go figure  ) There were 4 of us. One-the pot smoking junkie. Me-the ex-pot smoking junkie. Then the other two  the ones who had never tried it and would have turned their noses up had I or number one done it. Well....some...chick..or maybe it was a guy?? I don't know  passed the J. We kinda looked at each other like.."wtf?? what do we do??" It was like passing a law through congress. We all wanted to, but weren't sure what the others would have thought. After all that crap (raising hands...do you want to?? I don't know..do you want to?), I never even felt anything off of it. I was so pissed. My first experience since HS and it was wasted on that crap
