I think So.some of you may agree, and some not,I love hearing 100 different versions of Dreams,Edge on 17,Landslide a million times, Is she scared of crappy music reviews, compete with todays music with little or no airplay on top 40,CHR
radio stations. She my want to try to change music genders. of course my first choice is Country music.I cant see doing Hip Hop, Rap,Bluegrass,Yodel like
Jewel, she might have success with hard rock and lite music like Celine Dion.
maybe she should team up with some 20 something year old artists to record some fresh songs. She has a vast collection of demos collecting dust in her storage vault. Thats sad.nobody will hear them, except us, the fans.
I think she feels more comfortable with her classic rock tunes.then worrying
getting heartbroken with the Competition and the damb negative reviews.

I don't think so. Maybe she just doesn't have anything she wants to "say" anymore? It doesn't seem likely that after all these years in the business, she would suddenly become "scared" of releasing new music. Priorities change for everyone, Stevie is no different.

I think she is scared, and I think you are on to something with the "country" thing. I think that is her best bet, the one that would be closest to her heart and natural style.

Well, concidering the strong influence with her country music artist Grandfather, I can hear a lot of folky-country twangs.

Her 'Trouble In Shangri-La' and 'Say You Will' material garnered Stevie some of the best reviews of her career. And, hell, it never stopped her when the first five solo albums she released received bad reviews.
So I don't think she's afraid of something like that.

I still think she just wants to focus at the moment on performing. She's always said she greatly prefers being on a stage than being in the studio.
And maybe she figures there's still plenty of time to record new music, but there may not always be a time when she's healthy enough to hit the stage.

New music will come... we just need to have patience, grasshoppers.

Yeah, it really did garner some good reviews, but I think something about those two albums did make her scared. The sales, probably. I'm just judging that from some recent interviews, her tone about releasing things, and her opinions on illegally dling. I dunno, just a vibe I got, that she is less confident about her new releases then we are.

I agree she wants to focus on performing, and when did she not? Like you says, she greatly prefers it, and thank goodness. I always think of a random quote I heard from Stevie "I always wanted to be part of a band, a rock and roll band. I never thought much about solo things."
And I think that is really true, she is at her best while collaborating. Not only from our perspective, but from hers - I think she enjoys collaborating, and being part of a band, much more than not. I guess that is Captain Obvious - she's worked with others, sought to work with others, her whole career, almost without exception. And rightly so, with that sense of harmony. I believe her love truly lies with working and performing with others who she respects.
I'm really enjoying her touring renaissance, which I believe it really is. She's singing with people she hasn't sang with in years. I could not be happier, unless she broke out a few rarely heards with her own solo show like she has when she was singing with Don or Tom.

I think her comments to the Aussie reporter when she was down there speaks volumes ..."It won't get played on the radio so why bother?"The idea that she doesn't want to do anything new because she is no longer the air play Belle of the Ball is a disappointment to say the least. She admits she has the raw material for 30 new songs mostly written on the long SYW tour in addition to all her vault material...I hope she changes her mind and soon. Not recording any music just because you know you won't get as much airplay as Beyonce is silly.

Her new songs haven't received significant airplay since "Rooms On Fire" back in '89, and airplay was already slowing down with "I Can't Wait" in '86... and that fact never stopped her from recording prior to this.

And, as far as sales go, 'TISL' sold three times as many copies as 'Street Angel'... so her solo career was definitely back on an upswing.

I pointed out this same thing on a thread quite some time ago and someone (can't recall who at the moment) replied by saying she chalked the earlier slowing of airplay up to her various addictions and when she still didn't garner much airplay for TISL and SYW it finally sunk in that she wasn't getting airplay now for other reasons.I think that realization is informing her refusal to create new music now.

If you ask me, Stevie just isn't inspired anymore. Now that her muse is married with kids what is there to write about? JK
Chalk it up to writers block coupled with the fact that she's content to rehash her greatest hits in new packaging. Can't really blame her, she's earned it.

I think a "duets" album a la Ray Charles would be a perfect project for her and one that she would really enjoy and shine on.

Very true. Didn't she say the only reason she headed out solo was because she wasn't content with only releasing three or four songs every three or four years? It wasn't for the "solo" thing itself.
