*yawn* (no offense, alex)
the dvd w/the voice over commentary and photo booklet are the only things of interest to me (yes, to me). but other than that, it's enchanted part deux, imo. i'm wondering if she'll make like lindsey and rehash the same stories over again w/the voiceover bit -- then again, she's never been quite as canned as he is.

I think it depends on the interviewer - she positively gushed info for that Australian guy last year or so. Same for that photo spread of her house. So, if asked non canned questions, maybe she'll open up a little.

Cool. Well that confirms that the UK and US editions are the same: 13 videos, Bella Donna home video, interview etc.
It does sound like a mini-Enchanted but that DVD is pretty exciting to me.

I think this sounds excellent - I'm looking forward to the whole thing, it's a real mixed bag of stuff - with the dvd and the new live symphony stuff...

"REFLECTIONS - THE VERY BEST OF STEVIE NICKS" CD/DVD Package Scheduled for March 27 Release
Thursday February 1, 1:41 pm ET
Nicks to Perform at Super Bowl Pre-Game on CBS This Sunday
BURBANK, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Feb 1, 2007 -- Stevie Nicks, one of the most successful female artists in rock history and the embodiment of the transcendent power of music, is scheduled to release "REFLECTIONS - THE VERY BEST OF STEVIE NICKS" on March 27th; it was announced today by her label, Reprise Records. "REFLECTIONS" is an extraordinary collection of songs from the multi-platinum, multi-Grammy Award winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee's stunning three decade career as a solo artist and member of the legendary Fleetwood Mac.
"REFLECTIONS -THE VERY BEST OF STEVIE NICKS" opens with the original mastered studio version of "Edge of Seventeen" and closes with a live performance of the song recorded last summer with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. In between are Nicks' classics including "Stand Back," "Leather and Lace" and "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" with Tom Petty. The CD also has a live version of "Landslide" (also recorded with the Melbourne Symphony), "Rhiannon" and a knock-out version of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll." Other standouts are a haunting version of "Sorcerer" sung with Sheryl Crow which was originally on Nicks' "TROUBLE IN SHANGRI-LA" CD, the Deep Dish dance remix of "Dreams" and "Silver Springs" from the original master of "RUMOURS" -- a cult favorite which appeared only as a b-side to "Go Your Own Way."
The DVD component of "REFLECTIONS" offers 13 Stevie videos with voice-over commentary by Nicks as well as an audio interview by journalist David Wild. Also included on the DVD is a never before seen Stevie Nicks home video which was filmed during the making of the five-times platinum "BELLA DONNA" album. The accompanying booklet will have original Stevie Nicks art work as well as photographs and personal pictures hand-picked by the artist representing a cross section of iconic pictures spanning her entire career.
Stevie Nicks is scheduled to perform this weekend (Feb. 4) at the Super Bowl pre-show in Miami this Sunday airing on CBS and is headed back to the famous Collosseum at Caesars Palace for a return engagement of her specially conceived critically acclaimed show on March 20, 21, 23 and 24.
This Spring, Nicks will embark on a national concert tour with Chris Isaak. Dates for the tour will be announced shortly.

I thought that the b-side version was the same version released on CD. I actually have the original GYOW single and it sounds exactly the same as the Rumours Deluxe version (but less scratchy and popply :p ).
The versions of Silver Springs found on The Chain, The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac, and the Rumours Expanded & Remastered are all different from the b-side version.
The version from The Chain is the closest in mix, but some of Stevie's backup vocals at the end of the song are mixed differently. The line that stands out is "I'll follow you down 'til the sound of my voice will haunt you" sung in the background. It almost sounds like the vocal was turned down, whereas on the 45 it is emphasized. Unless you're completely obsessive and nitpicky like me, you won't really hear much difference. But I remember being disappointed when The Chain came out because I clearly heard a different version from my scratchy 45.

I'm cautiously optimistic. It might have been easier and more cost-effective to pull a version that was already mixed and remastered (e.g. The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac) than to start from scratch from old master tapes, which may not even be available anymore.

It's been said before: I'll be getting it for the DVD but the CD could have been better. It's mostly stuff that we already have that's quite likely to have been remastered according to the standards of Loudness War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war). Doesn't really "tickle my fancy".
Here's a tip to those people who want a modern day remaster of Mirage: JUST TURN UP THE VOLUME ON YOUR OLD CD!

I am only interested in the DVD portion (Which seems to be a growing trend in music releases) of this release.
Too bad Jim Ladd was not the interviewer for the interview section, he was the best person I have heard interview Stevie - And she seems very open to his questions and interview approach.

I took the original CD, ran it through my JVC stereo equipment & JVC burner and made my own version which has the volume level the same as the 3 recent Fleetwood Mac remasters.

I am the most obsessive set of ears anyone can meet. Have to be when ya collect Beatle bootlegs, which helps with other artists.
In the past I have taken discs and made mixes that were appealling to my ears only because the original releases have audio flaws that drive me up the wall (I basically made my own remastered versions of all the Buckingham/Nicks era FM discs and all of Stevie's studio releases - Sure helped the sound of "The Wild Heart" album.)

this is likely true, but we are in a separate class from the general public. this collection is necessary at this point. it does it's job as far as a "greatest hits" goes. those who bought Enchanted will buy this for the live stuff and the DVD. those who didn't buy Enchanted will buy this for the great collection of hits and the DVD.

I don't think that's necessarily true. remastering is more than just "pumping up the volume" -

I could have done without Stop draggin' my heart around, for a personal allergy to this song, but for the rest it seems to me a really great best of, and the dvd is an unexpected gift (metaphorically, since we'll pay for it, but it's been a wonderful idea  ). Do we know already which Rhiannon version would be?

Yeah, the thing is that the DVD could have been released separately though. But then there wouldn't have been a large enough market left for the CD. As Brian J. pointed out, the way Crystal Visions is now coming out is a common industry practice these days.
I'm just questioning the need for this very best of CD since Timespace already exists. Street Angel and TISL, in spite of containing many tracks that range from good to great, haven't really given Stevie any classics. So I can't really see that the CD adds anything of real significance to the public. And us Chiffonheads have been shortchanged too - there's ANOTHER live version of Rhiannon, most probably own the Deep Dish track already and everyone's got a live version of Rock And Roll and the Melbourne tracks via their bootlegs. While it's better that the live tracks will now be commercially available, there was an opportunity for an entire live album that's now been missed.
In short, a very best of/greatest hits package usually should give something extra for the casual fan and maybe something new for the hardcores (such as new tracks or outtakes), both of which the CD of Crystal Visions fails to do. Yeah, we'll get to exercise our completism and I probably would buy it anyway if it was just the CD that was going to be released. I'm that much of an anal completist anyway.
And of course it's a way to bring Stevie's body of work back to the public eye again and gather as much attention for it as possible - the CD of Crystal Visions should do fulfill its job there. That's the only good point I see for its release though.
I don't think that's necessarily true. remastering is more than just "pumping up the volume" -
True, it should all about going back to the original tapes, cleaning up whatever anomalies there are (but not via noise reduction!) and then trying to make those sound as close to the original as possible with new clarity. And since even we have better A/D converters on our computers than whatever the remastering guys of the record companies had back in the '80s, it's good enough of a reason to put out remasters of stuff that has been released on CDs before.
But not if the new remasters are done according to the Loudness War ideology that is so prevalent these days. I'm not going to start explaining much about how it ruins the dynamics of the original recordings and all that schpiel (I wouldn't have the vocabulary or all the knowledge for it anyway), a good YouTube link will do in this case. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Gmex_4hreQ) I'd just like to add that if an album is remastered according to the standards of the Loudness War, then a CD pressing of the same album that was released in the '80s is actually the better alternative because it sounds more like the originally released recordings.
Loudness War has just been getting more frantic because the record companies think that people want overcompressed loud-sounding stuff for their iPODs and because most new releases go that route anyway. All I'm asking is: why the hell should reissues of past recordings go that route too? Why should they compete in volume with most of the current new music? It's still going to sound like it's come from another era so most teenagers will turn their backs on it anyway, although some, bless their hearts, will always be drawn in.
I hope that this won't happen with Crystal Visions though. We'll see.

The DVD sounds cool, as do the live tracks. But I just don't think I'm enough of fan anymore to buy this. If it was just a collection of live tracks and a DVD, then yes...since I'm not much of a bootleg collector. But I don't need to own the studio tracks from her albums multiple times. I don't really like doing that with any artist.
I may, however, just download the live tracks from iTunes if that's an option.

As I see it, this set does offer something new for the hardcore fans... those Melbourne tracks and "Rock And Roll." (As well as the Deep Dish "Dreams" for those who don't already own it.)
You pointed out that "everyone has them" via bootlegs, and I know a lot of people share that point of view -- but we're not even supposed to have those bootlegs. It would be the same as complaining if Lindsey's recent album had included only the songs that leaked several years back as 'Gift of Screws.' It's not the artist's fault that we seek out things that they didn't intend to, or weren't ready to, release.
Besides, there's no way I could ever turn my nose up at something that's professionally recorded and mixed, when the only other alternative is a noisy, hollow-sounding, audience-recorded bootleg.
I do agree, however, that a full-length live album would have been a far better offering. Perhaps we'll still see one though -- since Billboard reported just a couple of weeks ago that Stevie was working on one to be released "late this year." So that live album might be a separate entity from 'Crystal Visions,' despite the inclusion of some live tracks on this upcoming set.

Quite possibly Stevie could still do a live album from the upcoming summer tour she has planned. You know she's going to kick major ass!! :blob2:
