Bill's "Storms" got me thinking about the Tusk demos (many of you will have these, I suppose) and this one in particular, in which Stevie has a ruined, ravaged voice, and Lindsey is pushing her ...

Stevie:Every night that goes be (voice breaks) I'm sorry, my headphones are falling off
Linds: I just don't think your singing it right now
Stevie: Well I am trying to sing it soft and I don't have a whole lot of voice and..
Linds: bbut just earlier you were just goin' (sings 'goes between')you were just singing it alot smoother

It would fit so well in a scene from A Star is Born.

Here you go I will call this "tragic" Storms but it is labeled: Storms (Lindsey and Stevie) (http://download.yousendit.com/33EFA2474CA59A11)

Then, as long as I am on it, here is another Storms demo I like a lot, especially the noodling guitar:

this is one of my favorite demos.

as I've always said...the fragility of Stevie's voice is one of the things that I love.

it also makes me really appreciate the fact that she has any voice at all left.

My God, What a prick it is. This is a gorgeous recording. I LOVE the fact that her voice broke down. She finds beautiful ways to present it in these circumstances. Thanks a lot for posting, I never heard this before. Touching. VERY touching. The most impressive Stevierecording I've heard since the Sorcerer-liveversion of BuckinghamNicks surfaced.

I love this demo too though. ;)

Yes you're right. But then again, I LOVE it when good singers show their raw edge by having a cold, or stretching their voices to try to reach what they once could. The latter is not the case here, but the impressiveness lies in the emotions and creativity to dance around the impossibilities of the moment. AND of course it lies in the melody and lyric of a still outstanding track...

Frankly, Stevie's voice hasn't touched me in the soul for quite some time...on recent recordings that is....

I love hearing them in these demos. I can just hear him going "Nope." in his head after she tries singing it again. He's probably so frustrated when he starts singing. Hee!

She NEEDS to do this song on the next FM tour.

I'm not a fan of ragged-Stevie voice, but whatevah floats yer boat. :)

ETA: The sigh he does when he goes "You're...sigh" cracks me UP!! Then, her saying "I'm sorry, they're sliding...my headphones are sliding off my head." That is just hilarious to me. It's his sigh and her delivery of that headphones sentence.

I love hearing them too, and although I am not actually the biggest fan of her raggedy voice, I think she manages to still convey the emotion here, and of course I like the tragic element.
The headphones moment is great—she rarely sounds bumbling, or sheepish, but she does here. Lindsey sounds like a mean svengali, but he does get her to finish. He just sounds like someone who has never once lost his voice, and he isn't buying it with her.

I love the Storms - Stevie+Lindsey demo too, it's so truthful, and the dynamics of them in the same studio are always fascinating... dangerous, but fascinating. They were the best part in Destiny Rules doc, from Thrown down to I am Waiting.

I still don't know how both survived during Tusk recording, considering the studio was full of big and heavy African objects.

Oh, and STORMS really needs to be in the next setlist for FM tour.
