I just saw this posted on 'another board'.

Just received this from Warner Music. Not everything is confirmed, but looks great!!!

Here are the details I have so far:

On March 27th we will be releasing a Stevie Nicks greatest hits collection entitled "Reflections...The Very Best of Stevie Nicks".

There is a CD only version, and the tracklisting is not confirmed, as of yet, but will most likely be as follows:

1. Edge Of Seventeen - studio version
2. I Can't Wait
3. Sorcerer
4. If Anyone Falls
5. Stop Dragging My Around
6. Silver Springs - orig FM master
7. Dreams - Deep Dish remix version
8. Rhiannon - live
9. Rooms On Fire
10. Talk To Me
11. Landslide - live
12. Stand Back - live
13. Has Anyone Ever Written A Song For You
14. Planets Of The Universe
15. Rock n Roll - live (Zep cover)
16. Leather & Lace
17. Edge Of Seventeen - live

The other version is a CD/DVD. CD tracklisting will remain the same, and DVD tracklist will contain some or all of the following.

Again, this tracklisting is not yet confirmed:

Rooms On Fire
If Anyone Falls
Talk To Me
I Can't Wait
Sorcerer (w/Sheryl Crow)
Stand Back
Stop Dragging My Heart Around (w/ Tom Petty)
Whole Lot Of Trouble
If You Ever Did Believe (w/Sheryl Crow)
Blue Denim (video & audio on CD/DVD configuation only)
Everyday (video & audio on CD/DVD configuration only)

Voice Over commentary on 3 or 4 songs (Stand Back, Stop Dragging, etc.)
Interview (audio only with Dave Wilde)
Stevie's artwork
Video from Storytellers (Rhiannon?)
EPK "Enchanted"

Some highlights of this package include "Landslide" and "Edge of Seventeen" live from Melbourne, Australia with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, which both sound amazing, as well as a gorgeous live version of Rhiannon that includes a prolonged piano intro. BUT...the "piece de resistance" is the Steve Nicks voice over commentary on a few of the older videos and footage.

danax6

A voice over? That sounds...interesting. :D Mick finally gave her Silver Springs? The EO17 and Landslide live are the CD is the Melbourne Symphony ones? So no video? Are the other live performances from that show also? We finally get the clips in a decent form? (remastered, 5.1 sound?) Stevie's artwork on a DVD?

Aaah, so many questions!

How reliable is this source? Why would she put a Fleetwood Mac song on a solo release, she doesn't have permission from Mick to use it.

That, plus...

"13. Has Anyone Ever Written A Song For You"

... and the fact that the list says "not confirmed" at least 3 times.

I like the first fake tracklist that was passed around better, anyway.

The DVD list sounds cool, tho.

That was posted by the same person who initially posted word about the release, he/she is a store manager for HMV in Canada and just received the release listings. Apparantly.

Hmm... interesting. I'm going to take a "wait and see" attitude on this song selection though, as it could just be another bogus tracklisting -- like the one posted here a few months ago.

If it is real, then let me voice my displeasure here and now that they'd give up two slots on the CD to "Edge of Seventeen." I can think of ten other songs that could have been included instead.

The rest looks cool though.

Well, the most interesting thing on it is the R&R cover, which does not have the word "live" next to it. Could it really be a studio cut, which would be incredible.

There is alot of discrepencys here and for once i'm gonna wait for a confirmation from either the Nicksfix or her label.

I don't want to believe these track listings because they suck. :laugh:Other than the inclusion of a second version of "Edge," I don't think it's really that bad of a tracklisting, overall.
A nice amount of huge hit singles and familiar radio tracks for the casual fans to want to buy it, but also some cool additions for the diehards ("Rock And Roll," live performances from Melbourne, and the Deep Dish version of "Dreams" -- for those who don't already own it).

Personally, I would have left off the songs originally recorded with Fleetwood Mac and focused ONLY on Stevie's solo material, but the inclusion of those songs does set it apart from Stevie's previous compilations (well, aside from the piano version of "Rhiannon" on 'Enchanted,' of course).

Anyway, if it's true- great. From what I understand, Stevie was blocked from using "Silver Springs" on 'Timespace,' because Mick wanted to use it on the boxed-set that was being readied for release the very next year.

But the original song has now been released four times ('25 Years - The Chain,' 'The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac,' the 'Rumours' DVD-Audio, and the 'Rumours' remastered & expanded edition), so it's probably not an issue anymore.

True - but it is still odd that she would include it even then because she has so much other stuff of her own.

In any event, time will tell.

Also - I do not mean to insult the original poster. I am just skeptical because as many of us know, some people are insincere, etc. - which they likely are not.

If it's because it lacks a brand new song, I'm with you there.

Otherwise, I think that -- all things considered -- it's a pretty decent selection (again, aside from the second version of "Edge").

I think it is decent as well. I do think though that she should include some new stuff. Why not? It is not like she is ever likely to release another solo studio recording as she will be 61 this year and the Mac is touring soon as is she. I mean she likely has enough finished songs in the vault to make a 12 song record

I'm trying to guess what this 'voice over' thing could be. Kind of like director's comments, where Stevie talks about the how and why of a videoclip? Or, God forbid, the stories we've heard a million times before, about what the songs are supposedly about?

There's nothing new there. If she's not doing any new music at this time, she could at least go into the vaults and release something no one's ever heard. I don't need a rehash of Timespace and Enchanted. And why add Silver Springs when there are several versions on the Rumours deluxe edition?
I'd much rather have had Crying In The Night as the first track list suggested. The DVD will be cool though.

Hayley might know the answer to this question, but I think CD packaging is relatively inexpensive if it sells for around $20.00, which this likely will. Also, I think she should do like she said in that Australian interview and release some things online for $1.99 song. Surely she could make $100,000 that way if it was something not leaked and she offered some kind of bouns thing like a voiceover bonus.

There's no way around it. Just as recent "best of" compilations by REM, Tom Petty, Springsteen, Heart, Bowie, Mellencamp, Aerosmith, Blondie, and so on, all rehashed parts of their previously released compilations.

There are six songs on this, however, that weren't on 'Timespace' or 'Enchanted.' And, if this tracklisting really is to be believed, five of the songs are live recordings that have never been officially released, period.

So, no, it's definitely not perfect... but it's not without its merits either.

Yeah lets be honest we knew it was going to be a GREATEST HITS. I am with everyones disppointment about no mention of no new songs...kinda sucks, but hey did anybody notice she acknowledged the OSOTM and SA albums for the first time in years??? I can only imagine the "Stevie Commentary" for the WLT video....

Anybody else disppointed with all the FM material included? Rhiannon, Landslide, AND Silver Springs...blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Cmon! Sucks big time IMO. Dreams is great because I love that new mix.

One more thing....I hope there is some live stuff from Vegas on here too. The vocals on that Melbourne boot was pretty lackluster compared to the rest of the GD tour, IMO. I was also kind of hoping for a live version of If Anyone Falls from the GD tour too.

could not agree more.

i just can't get excited about yet another "greatest best of hits ever" by stevie nicks. she loves to talk about how prolific a songwriter she is - how she never stops - and we all KNOW how many unreleased demos are out there. why not release a few???

i'm bummed. :(

Yes, exactly. I hate her right now, because I love her so much. For the reasons you just said.
I don't really, really hate her, because I love her too much, but I do hate these decisions of hers. And I wouldn't hate as much if I didn't love as much. We all know what could be, that is the love part.
To be fair, she has to release this for her contractual obligations, and I'm not sure if she was allowed to pick the whole tracklisting.
Not to excuse her, because we know that when she is allowed to pick her "tracklisting" (ie, concert set), she basically does the same type of thing.

Still love her, will never stop, but very disappointed. Her report card gets a "not working up to her potential" from me this semester.

I don't believe a word of this. Not only is it lame... Carly Simon has already used "Reflections" for her recent greatest hits compilation, which also happened to be put out by Rhino:

http://images.barnesandnoble.com/images/11640000/11649032.jpg

... as well as Miss Mary J.'s "Reflections: a Retrospective" (A follow-up to her "Reflections: The Remixes")
http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000JU8HHE.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_V47674944_.jpg

I seriously doubt Stevie would put out an album with such a tired, used up name. Too much reflecting genuflecting going around, methinks.

Exactly. I even know she probably couldn't do some of the songs, but she could do others, and well, well,...

I mean, I literally tear up a lot when I'm listening to her other stuff, I love it so much - and like you say - listening to all that beauty makes you so much more aware of what isn't there, now. Even, really, that spirit. The spirit of improv. She's still f*cking hella talented, she should at least pull out some stuff she can sing that we haven't heard, and feel confident to improv on the ones we have heard. She added that new thing to SDMHA this year....

It's weird that someone who has such a huge fan base, and so many accomplishments, and so many gifts still intact - especially for her age - doesn't have the confidence to do what she always did, and is good at. She really does have the most incredibly forgiving audience (as Mick said) and I wish she would take advantage.

Blah, blah.

I like this :shrug:For the most part, I do, too (see my comments re: two versions of "Edge Of Seventeen").

Yes, I would have been even happier if there had been a brand new song written by Stevie, but I never in a million years expected old demos to be included on a single-disc "Best of" CD geared towards the general public... so there's no disappointment for me in those regards.

Exactly. We all have to be "realistic" when it comes to her. And in that vein, you are absolutely right, this alleged album is fairly good in that way. Although I think she could even have added a BN track to this and it would still be what we expect it to be, and what the label expects it to be.

It's just hard to have to "know what to expect from someone" who you think is a super genius, and that expectation is, by necessity, far below what her actual genius is.
But yes, this album is expected, and so is fine in that way. *sigh*.

1. Edge Of Seventeen - studio version
2. I Can't Wait
3. Sorcerer
4. If Anyone Falls
5. Stop Dragging My Around
6. Silver Springs - orig FM master
7. Dreams - Deep Dish remix version
8. Rhiannon - live
9. Rooms On Fire
10. Talk To Me
11. Landslide - live
12. Stand Back - live
13. Has Anyone Ever Written A Song For You
14. Planets Of The Universe
15. Rock n Roll - live (Zep cover)
16. Leather & Lace
17. Edge Of Seventeen - live

The other version is a CD/DVD. CD tracklisting will remain the same, and DVD tracklist will contain some or all of the following.

Again, this tracklisting is not yet confirmed:

Rooms On Fire
If Anyone Falls
Talk To Me
I Can't Wait
Sorcerer (w/Sheryl Crow)
Stand Back
Stop Dragging My Heart Around (w/ Tom Petty)
Whole Lot Of Trouble
If You Ever Did Believe (w/Sheryl Crow)
Blue Denim (video & audio on CD/DVD configuation only)
Everyday (video & audio on CD/DVD configuration only)

Voice Over commentary on 3 or 4 songs (Stand Back, Stop Dragging, etc.)
Interview (audio only with Dave Wilde)
Stevie's artwork
Video from Storytellers (Rhiannon?)
EPK "Enchanted"

I'm not displeased with this at all. It is a best of, so you're going to have the hits in there. What's nice is that she's thrown in some live versions of the hits, and a remix. I'm assuming all the live songs will be from the Gold Dust Tour? We all know how she rocked on that tour, so they should all sound even better with the professional studio touches. I do hope she includes the extended POTU version on this collection though. Stevie's commentary, an interview, and artwork are all something else I'd find extremely interesting. If they do release a video from Storytellers, I tend to think it will be "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You". It'd be a perfect way to end this compilation.

The only disappointments I really feel from this supposed track listing, besides having no "new" studio track recordings, would be:

1> As Brian mentioned, Edge Of Seventeen, twice?? Not really necessary...we had a live version on Enchanted, and the version we need is a REMASTERED Edge (ala the rest of the studio songs on Enchanted). Maybe the first track is a remastered version...

2> I liked the title, "Reflections," until it was pointed out that there are already a couple recent compilations with this name. Maybe the title is also unconfirmed and TBA.... "Very Best Of" definitely sums this track list up though (and not at all misleading for the casual fan who would pick this up).

3> Silver Springs - the FM master?? Hmmm...yeah, totally redundant after FM's VBO. I am hoping that this will end up being a different version from what we have on the various FM albums....

The POSITIVES would be:

1> ROCK N ROLL! - New and Live - This alone will make the album kick.

2> SORCERER AND PLANETS!! - Killer songs that deserve to be spotlighted again. PLEASE be the extended version of POTU!!

3> DEEP DISH DREAMS! - The revitalized Dreams is ultra-cool, and still getting radio airplay all around the world...a new gem that will stand out on this compilation.

BUY YEAH, Exacally. THis is to get people interested in what STEVIE NICKS has to offer NOW. Its like here she is now, see? still cool.still good. now, hop on the bandwagon!

I couldn't agree with you more, Stevie is vital, and still impressing old AND new fans alike. Your comment about how this will sell is very important - anything *new and current* out there, that makes people think "Stevie Nicks", will benefit the possibilities of future solo releases...:D

I like this :shrug:Me too. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I can live with this set. Everybody is right when they say that it's still a frikkin' 'Best Of' album. 5 of those songs on there are now going to be NEW LIVE performances, which makes it great in my book. She wasn't going to put anything obscure on it and though I hoped for some new stuff, I can live with the fact that we at least get the old stuff in a format we haven't yet heard. It's something for the new folks AND the old fans. That's the best you can expect out of a GH set. Planets and Sorcerer are 'new', the Dreams mix has never appeared on a Stevie cd before...and the rest...well, we have to suck it up, it's still a Best Of set.

The DVD is okay also, not only do we finally get all the videos on one disc, hopefully touched up, there is a lot of extra stuff also.

The only thing that majorly blows is the title.

Yes, exactly. I hate her right now, because I love her so much. For the reasons you just said.
I don't really, really hate her, because I love her too much, but I do hate these decisions of hers. And I wouldn't hate as much if I didn't love as much. We all know what could be, that is the love part.
....
Still love her, will never stop, but very disappointed. Her report card gets a "not working up to her potential" from me this semester.

exactly me. will always love her. it goes far too deep to just end now. but i, too, am disappointed. and part of me wonders if people like us are part of the problem. we accept this - we buy the greatest-best-ever-hits cds over and over - and we buy the tickets to see the same old set lists. are we sending her a message that it's okay? is she taking our devotion for granted?

Personally I would rather have the studio version of Stand Back but thats just me. I also would have this as a 2 disc set seeing as Stevie has released so much and there are so many good album tracks. Stuff like After the Glitter Fades, Nightbird, Long Way To Go, Whole Lotta Trouble, Beauty and the Beast, If Anyone Falls, Blue Denim, Everyday..all missing. So my track list would be:

Reflections - The Best of Stevie Nicks (CD one 1981 - 1989)

1. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
2. Stand Back
3. Talk To Me
4. Rooms On Fire
5. If Anyone Falls
6. Beauty and the Beast
7. Edge of Seventeen
8. Nightbird
9. I Can't Wait
10. Doing the Best I Can
11. Outside the Rain
12. No Spoken Word
13 Leather and Lace
14. Whole Lotta Trouble
15. After the Glitter Fades
16. Has Anyone Ever etc etc

CD 2 (1990-2006)

1. Sometimes It's a Bitch
2. Blue Denim
3. Planets of the Universe
4. Desert Angel
5. Sorcerer
6. Maybe Love
7. New Song
8. New Song
9. If You Ever Did Believe
10 Love's a Hard Game to Play
11. It's Only Love
12. New Song
13 Street Angel
14. Everyday
15. Something Live
16. Something Live

OK so I would have 2 versions of this on sale. One with 2 cd's one with a CD/DVD which would be:

CD:

1. Stop Draggin'
2. Stand Back
3. Talk To Me
4. Rooms on Fire
5. Edge of Seventeen
6. Sorcerer
7. Beauty and the Beast
8. Edge of 17
9. Blue Denim
10. Planets of the Universe
11. I Can't Wait
12. Whole Lotta Trouble
13. New Song
14. Has Anyone Ever etc etc
15. Leather and Lace
16. New Song
17. If Anyone Falls
18. New Song

DVD:

The Videos (Stop Draggin, Stand Back, Talk To Me, I Can't Wait, Rooms on Fire, Whole Lotta Trouble, Blue Denim, If You Ever Did Believe, Sorcerer, Everyday) with commentary
behind the music doc.
Edge, Sara, Gold and Braid from HBO

Uhm, maybe you should buy the Enchanted set?

I have the Enchanted boxset but it's VERY expensive..this could see for around £12-£14 over here...which people will pay.

The alternative is to release a BEST OF VOL 2 and so still recognizing the existence of Timespace and re-releasing it. That way, we could have things like "If You Ever Did Believe" and live stuff on it without loosing room for classic stuff like "Beauty and the Beast" and "Whole Lotta Trouble". I deffo feel that BATB is more worthy on the place of the new best of than "I Can't Wait"

I really don't think this track list is lagit...

I don't think Stevie would allow a "best of" not to have BATB on it and we all know how picky she is about her live stuff. I don't think she'd have to versions of the same song on a "best of" or that many live songs on a "best of". It just doesn't seem to be Stevied at all. It just seems like some crazed fan has done what they think is a "great best of" and posted it as the actual one.

I hate Deep Dish version because it took an emotional song that had nothing wrong with in the first place and stuck a dance beat over it. HOW ANNOYING!!

This is true. And her voice does that thing that your voice does when you switch from falsetto into your comfortable range. ~Jason where are you I need help with this.~
Anyway, I really enjoy the newer version of dreams. Its atmosheric, and beat gives it a driving power to enhance her powerful words. It does not "replace" the original, and it never will, but still. I LOVE and ADORE the way she sings it. and yeah,I loved her "wild heart" voice, but I really like

I would bet money that this tracklist is bogus. There are so many things that are not quite right with it, particularly the fact that one of Stevie's biggest solo hits, "Stand Back," is represented only in its live form, which, to my ears, has not been done live properly since 1983. :sorry: Also, the DVD portion appears to be just a mishmash of arbitrary stuff. I mean, "Stevie artwork?" And a video from VH1 Storytellers?

And I find the voiceover commentary stuff hilarious, especially since we all know how much Mama hates to shoot videos. And what will be her commentary for the "Stand Back" video? "Well, we first shot this in Civil War costumes and I was like 'omigawd, I look so gross,' and then I thought the song was just screaming for a conveyor belt, so that's what we did. That conveyor belt was very special to me."

My prediction is that this set will try to set itself apart as THE definitive Stevie collection by including both her solo work as well as Fleetwood Mac (not Fleetwood Mac songs she performed solo live). I'm sure the legal logistics were mindboggling, but then again it's all on the same label. Plus, it's unlikely that FM will be putting out any more best of's in the near future since they already blew their load with TVBOFM.

I'm a little suspicious of the proposed tracklisting as well but if it does come to fruition, it wouldn't be too bad. However, I would have preferred a more comprehensive, two cd version along the lines of the Essential series compilations that have been released by a range of artists in the last few years (Heart, Neil Diamond, Bruce Springsteen - his was a three cd set - etc). Given that this is to be essentially a hits collection, consideration should have been given to the following titles as they have all been issued as singles in one form or another (7" vinyl, cd single, promo cd single) in various parts of the world:

Crying In The Night with Buckingham Nicks
Whenever I Call You Friend with Kenny Loggins
Gold with John Stewart
Stop Draggin' My Heart Around with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Insider with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Edge Of 17 (7" edit)
Leather & Lace (7" edit)
After The Glitter Fades
Stand Back (7" edit)
If Anyone Falls
Nightbird (7" edit)
Talk To Me
I Can't Wait (7" remix)
Imperial Hotel
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You (7" edit)
Needles & Pins (live) with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Silent Night (released in Germany)
Rooms On Fire (7" remix)
Long Way To Go (7" edit)
Two Kinds Of Love
Whole Lotta Trouble (7" remix)
Sometimes It's A Bitch
Love's A Hard Game To Play (7" remix)
Desiree with Rick Vito
Blue Denim (7" remix)
Maybe Love (7" remix)
Twisted (promo) with Lindsey Buckingham
Reconsider Me (promo)
If You Ever Did Believe (7"edit - promo)
Everyday (promo)
Planets Of The Universe (7" edit)
Sorcerer (7" edit - promo)
Dreams (7" edit) with Deep Dish

What I have listed above is (I think) an exhaustive account of Stevie's singles but I don't imagine for a moment that all of these would (or even should) be compiled for inclusion (none of us need to be reminded of Sometimes It's A Bitch or Love's A Hard Game To Play and Desiree could hardly be considered a worthy contender).
Of course, a smattering of newly recorded tracks would have been desirable and any live material with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra would definitely have been welcomed (Beautiful Child anyone?). I also believe that some of the fan favourites (non-singles) should be recognised (Bella Donna, The Wild Heart, Beauty & The Beast etc) but then I realise I am being unrealistic. If Silver Springs is included, hopefully it will be an unissued version with a cold ending similar to the demo ("I cast a spell on you, you won't forget me").

As for the dvd component, virtually all of the following could potentially be included if the effort was made (to my knowledge, the only songs that clips weren't made for or weren't ever performed live are Crying In The Night, Imperial Hotel, Long Way To Go and Desiree):

Whenever I Call You Friend (this was performed in 1978 with Kenny Loggins so it's possible a live clip may exist?)
Gold (perhaps unncessary as Stevie isn't featured)
Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
Insider
Edge Of 17
Leather & Lace (live from White Winged Dove Concert)
After The Glitter Fades (unreleased live version from White Winged Dove Concert)
Stand Back (+ unreleased Civil War version)
If Anyone Falls
Nightbird (live from Saturday Night Live)
Talk To Me
I Can't Wait (+ alternate version)
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You (live from Red Rocks)
Needles & Pins (was this filmed?)
Silent Night (studio recording or tv performance from 1987 Christmas Special)
Rooms On Fire (+ alternate version)
Two Kinds Of Love (live from the Mirror Tour pro-shot concert)
Whole Lotta Trouble
Sometimes It's A Bitch (+ alternate version)
Love's A Hard Game To Play (live from Arsenio Hall)
Unconditional Love (unreleased - filmed in November 1993 and probably atrocious if the stills are anything to go by but it would have featured the Abbey Road mix that was circulated in December 1993 which is, in my opinion, superior to the album version)
Blue Denim (+ live from Letterman, August 1994 would be fantastic)
Maybe Love (live from Street Angel Tour?)
Twisted (live from 1996 Tour?)
Reconsider Me (unreleased but filmed in early 1998)
If You Ever Did Believe
Everyday
Planets Of The Universe (unreleased live version from Shangri-La Tour - was filmed for 20/20 September 2001 broadcast)
Sorcerer
Dreams with Deep Dish (not crucial as it doesn't feature Stevie)

I also think the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Concert should be released in its entirety but many will disagree with me.

I understand that we won't be getting anything like what I have listed but it's frustrating to know that there is so much recorded content in the vaults just crying to be let out! It's also puzzling that since the initial release date for this collection was to coincide with Stevie's visit to Australia in February 2006, Stevie hasn't actually produced something new for inclusion. I remember her commenting in November 2005 that there wasn't time for any new recording but more than a year has elapsed since then. Also, didn't someone recently post that Sheryl Crow had commented that Stevie was working hard in the studio on a new album? If this is true, why not issue at least one of these recordings? I guess we shall see...

exactly me. will always love her. it goes far too deep to just end now. but i, too, am disappointed. and part of me wonders if people like us are part of the problem. we accept this - we buy the greatest-best-ever-hits cds over and over - and we buy the tickets to see the same old set lists. are we sending her a message that it's okay? is she taking our devotion for granted?

I really don't think it'd make that much difference if even all of us die hard fans stopped buying the cds and seeing her in concert. We're a drop in the bucket in relation to all of her fans, the casual Stevie fans. She'd still sell thousands of records and draw many to see her in concert. Personally, I don't think she owes me a GOD DAMN thing! :D

Exactly!!!! She doesn't owe us a God damn thing. She never said:"Buy my records or I'll shoot you", she never said:"I'm putting a gun to your head so you better do this or that". We bought the records and loved each and every one of them. Some might not be as good as expected but we bought them anyway. We're just the die hards and, like Johnny Stew pointed out so elloquently(sp?), we expect way too much.

We don't thinks she owes us anything, we just know she is working below her potential. And I don't think it is wrong to hope for/expect what you know exists, but isn't being done. Is it expecting too much to hope your artist delivers what you know she can, artistically? I don't think so. However, while I don't think our hopes are too much, I think people know by now that Stevie won't deliver all that she could, and expect that. We still like her, it's just a bloody shame.
Not expecting excellence from someone who you know can deliver it is like not expecting your child to get good grades, even though you know they could if they tried a little. Lowering expectations is bad. People tend to live up to expectations, if you don't expect anything, then that is what you may get.
Obviously, Stevie isn't such a cut and dried case, but the principal of expecting/hoping, and what that means, applies. And none of it has to do with "owing" somebody something.

Excellent points and I'd also like to add that if it wasn't for the casual /boomer fan base that will go to her oldies jukebox tours(albeit in slowly dwindling numbers) along with some of us diehards.I have a hunch that she might actually be more open to being creative and taking chances, but when she knows she has this boomer fan base that will show up to hear the oldies it actually makes her less inclined to create than if she was just catering to die hard cultish fans.

I agree. I'll form my opinions about the set list when I'm holding the CD in my hot little hands...not before then.

Agreed. There's no need to go into high chiffon drama over my original statement people. I still love Stevie Nicks. Having been a fan for over 30 years, it's possible I'm a little more objective in my admiration for her. After all, I was there for the releases of Timespace and later Enchanted. I met Stevie for the first time at RED ROCKS during the Timespace (Whole Lotta Trouble) tour. Like Cat mentioned, she is too big a presence in my life for me to ever give up. I tend to disagree in the sense that FM played so many shows to so many people - I mean 10,000 people in some arenas. Clearly of those, many were just casual. I went to many concerts and heard literally hundreds of people saying they thought LB and La Nicks broke up but looked like they were still together on stage. Shipperdom aside, that is a comment only a casual fan would make.

In the end, I do think La Nicks has many more seemingly harder core fans than most artists out there today.

The former Fleetwood Mac singer is to release first DVD too

http://www.uncut.co.uk/news/fleetwood_mac/news/9315

Stevie Nicks is to release a definitive song collection entitled “Reflections…The Best Of” in March. The retrospective spans two decades of Nicks’ musical career, from Fleetwood Mac and to her successful solo years.

“Reflections” will also include the first ever DVD compilation of Nicks’ videos and live performances, including duets with Tom Petty on “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” and with Sheryl Crow on “Sorcerer.”

Nicks’ Fleetwood Mac career is represented on “Reflections” with the original version of “Silver Springs”, a Deep Dish remix of “Dreams” and a live version of "Rhiannon."

The album also includes two special live performances of “Landslide” and “Edge Of Seventeen” with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

The full tracklisting for “Reflections” is:

1. Edge Of Seventeen
2. I Can't Wait
3. Sorcerer
4. If Anyone Falls In Love
5. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (with Tom Petty)
6. Silver Springs (Fleetwood Mac original version)
7. Dreams - Deep Dish version
8. Rhiannon (Live)
9. Rooms On Fire
10. Talk To Me
11. Landslide (Live with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra)
12. Stand Back
13. Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You
14. Planets Of The Universe
15. Rock And Roll (Live)
16. Leather And Lace (with Don Henley)
17. Edge Of Seventeen (Live with Melbourne Symphony Orch.)

Stevie Nicks has also been confirmed to play as part of the pre-game show at the upcoming Miami Superbowl on February 4 prior to four special shows at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on March 20, 21, 23 and 24.

My only expectation when it comes to Stevie... or any artist... is to occasionally get some new music that I can listen to and enjoy. Of course, it also has to be something that stirs my emotions and imagination.
So following that criteria, Stevie hasn't once disappointed me in my nearly 22 years of being a fan... though the frequency of her releases might be considerably less than this Nicksaholic would prefer.

Like I said earlier in the thread, she doesn't seem inspired right now to write or record new material... it's a bummer for the fans, but it happens. I've been drawing since I was a little kid and it's something I love to do, but there have been times when I've gone two or three full years without drawing a single thing. And nothing is worse for an artist than having to force or feign inspiration.

Maybe, as she approaches 60, Stevie's re-evaluating her life and her career. In a worst-case scenario, she could be retired -- sitting at home doing nothing but navel-gazing -- and we wouldn't have had the past four years worth of touring. We also wouldn't have the new live tracks we'll soon be getting, or the first-ever DVD compilation of Stevie's videos.

I love Stevie and hate to hear how critical & disapointed many of her fans are.

Try to remember that her heyday way 25 years ago. For Gods sake its a miracle that she is even alive.

I am thankful that she is still "out there" doing some appearances and staying in the public eye even if only on a limited basis.

Dont forget we have her whole catalog to treasure forever.

I know she doesnt read this but...I love you Stevie!

But....don't get me wrong...if she closes this years tour with "Storms"...my life would be complete!!!

amen. doesn't she get bored doing the same stuff night after night, year after year?
Honestly, I think she doesn't want to worry about things too much. She does what she does and people still come see her. She isn't going to compromise her 'comfort zone' by messing with the setlist. Stevie's not so much into her 'music is art and let's please the diehards with something new and unexpected, for the heck of it', she could never do what Lindsey does, semi-impromptu encores every evening. She loves to perform, as long as everything goes according to her standards, not what other people might expect. I've long ago accepted that so I don't have to whine about her not mixing it up a little. Sure, it'd be nice, it'd be GREAT, but you're going to have to stop expecting lest you want to keep getting disappointed.

So again, I'm not disappointed with this upcoming release either. In fact, I'm getting more than I expected, I'm getting a DVD on top of a CD, I'm getting previously unreleased live tracks, for quite a few songs. I'm finally getting all the videos neatly wrapped with a Stevie bow and some cool extras that go along with that. A few months ago nobody would have thought it was going to be this...elaborate, for lack of a better word. Let's at least appreciate that we are getting something. Like someone else said, she could have had her retired ass planted on a beach in Hawaii somewhere, instead we are getting new things and a new tour. Would you guys all rather have we didn't get it?

I wonder if she really is working below her potential.

Frankly, Frank, sometimes our potential is dictated or overrun by our own ambition. Or lack of it. I've been saying it for years - she simply can't be bothered. For whatever reason. I'm not disappointed by any of this. It's typical. Like someone else said, her heyday was 25 years ago. It's not like she's Dylan, or Petty, or Johnny Cash. She clearly doesn't have anything new to say. And if she does, she doesn't want to say it bad enough. So she's doing the jukebox thing. It's just who she is now. It's who she's been for years. Live, anyway. Sleepwalk through 8 of the songs, wake up for 4 or 5.

It's funny, you sound just like I did a few years ago. And like Diss did when I first saw his posts. It's only downhill from there, Shaniquah.

I think at this point Stevie wants to put out a definitive collection of her best songcraft (including FM material) which will secure her legacy and legend all in one release! I think it's smart and will be one of her best sellers in the long run....
Also she is throwing us fans a bone w/ the Live recordings and extra DVD video footage.

So she's doing the jukebox thing. It's just who she is now. It's who she's been for years. Live, anyway. Sleepwalk through 8 of the songs, wake up for 4 or 5.Everything was put into perspective for me when I read some of those old concert reviews from the late '70s and that interview with Richard Dashut from 1979/80, where he discussed critics' complaints that Stevie was "sleepwalking" through her performances and "seemed bored" with songs like "Dreams."

It's not at all a new complaint, and very likely a matter of taste and perception.

You misunderstand, I don't want her to write or record new material. I don't care about that so much. I want her to change her setlist more and maybe take a vocal chance or two. I'm the opposite... concert setlists mean very little to me. That's never been where my interest is. A show is a show and you play what you have to play in order to sell tickets.

Quite frankly, I would have rather she retired from the road 15 years ago, and focused only on making albums. So it's all the same to me if she's doing "Dreams" for the millionth time or if she just sang "Ooh My Love" on stage for the very first time.

You misunderstand, I don't want her to write or record new material. I don't care about that so much. I want her to change her setlist more and maybe take a vocal chance or two. Especially since she has been touring every few second for the past quite a few years. She has done a few things, but not even close to her potential. It's not a matter of being a genius, or productive, all she has to do sing sing some different songs that she already wrote. Like you said, she's been touring for four years. C'mon. How much more below her potential could she be working if she has had almost the same setlist all that time?
The DVD is okay, I guess, it's nice to get a professional compilation of everything I already have.

I TOTALLY agree with you. I love Stevie - I'm bored. I will only go see her when she tweaks that setlist, NOT AN OVERHAUL...a tweak! I think she is performing at her potential. It is not her past potential. It is her current potential. She is not going to take big risks anymore. That is the unfortunate current reality. She has to sing in that low register to even get through a Tour now. She is older..she has lost even more range from The Dance to Say You Will Tour... I wish it were not the case..but it is! I am GRATEFUL and EXCITED to get the new CD & DVD!!! I cherish every memory I have of her when she was on top of the world..taking risks..and yes..still surprising me!
I also accept that she is who she is now and I have the option to participate or not..we'll see.

Assuming this is the final tracklisting, I don't understand why nothing from Street Angel is on there. Like Brian has said several times, the whole point of these releases is to increase interest in an artist's catalog. Yeah, she thinks it's not up to par blah blah blah - but it's not like it is the album Kevin Federline released last Fall.

And while I'm glad she's finally releasing live tracks, my expectation is that the CD will sound ... jarring ... with the mix of studio then live then techno, coupled with all the different eras covered. Not to mention sticking Stand Back between Landslide and HAEWAFY.

But whatever ... steam vented. Now on to other things to look forward to:

- Will there be a video for any of the "new" tracks, maybe one of the Melbourne ones? I'm thinking EO17.
- Letterman, Leno, Kimmel, Ferguson?
- SNL? (probably no way in hell, but...)
- GMA, Today, FOX Morning?
- Interviews (print and web video)?
- VH1, VH1-Classic specials? They've been playing the crap out of the Rumours documentary this month.
- Are there any May Sweeps music specials or awards shows she might appear on?
- And the most important: more "Ask Stevie?" answers? ;)

I'm not a critic from a late 70's music rag. I've been seeing her for 30 years, well over 30 different times. She sleepwalks through half the songs these days. I've seen inspired performances of even the warhorse tunes. Years ago, but I have.

The fact is, she's been a notoriously inconsistent performer throughout her entire career. She's always had sleepwalking moments. In the old days it was usually due to substances. On the Tusk tour, I thought she was going to fall asleep. And I was 13. I've also seen her entirely on fire and completely committed every moment onstage. But not at all recently. I know the difference between an inspired performance and a phoned in lounge act walk thorugh.

What gave me my perspective is years of seeing her in person. Through nearly every tour, in cites all over the world. Call my opinion, or opinions like mine what you will, but I was there. I'm not prone to hallucination.

I agree on some level. But it's really all a guessing and wishing game at this point. There has only been an official announcement that something is coming. For all we know, that British mag is using this message board (or one of the others) as its source while trying to be the first to report it.

And if she went the Oprah route, I'm sure Oprah would try to get some dirt and sell and frame it as "Stevie Nicks, rock-n-roll survivor, opens up about her past.." Oprah's audience loves those kind of stories, the more lurid and detailed the better, no matter what tier celebrity is concerned.

I don't see a reason why she can't do ALL the shows I listed. Hmmm... and now that I think about it, there IS a Presidential election coming up next year...

Hi to BombaySapphire3 and Nixxed plus all the others on The Ledge who have extended their kindness my way.
I have to say that despite my extensive wishlist for what could have been included on the upcoming cd/dvd, I am actually pleased with what we'll be getting. I honestly didn't ever think Stevie would issue a dvd collection of promo videos so despite the imperfect tracklisting, I view it as a bonus.
That said, I understand the disappointment expressed in earlier postings and acknowledge everyone's point of view. Embarrassingly enough, I am one of those sad individuals who would buy anything Stevie released, even the cracks in her pavement, so I'll definitely be snavelling this release up.
I still think it would have taken next to no effort to include the unreleased promos for Stand Back, Unconditional Love and Reconsider Me as they are just languishing away in some vault (fully completed) but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.
My biggest gripe concerning the cd is that Rock 'n' Roll has been included at the expense of Circle Dance, a song that I had always adored by Bonnie Raitt and love even more by our Stevie. Regardless of whether you like this song or not, there is no denying that Stevie's performances of it were always committed and heartfelt (on every bootleg recording I heard). I consider this a wasted opportunity, unless...
Maybe the projected live album for later in the year will include this and some other tracks from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra concert? I long for these versions of Beautiful Child, Beauty And The Beast and Rhiannon so won't give up hope just yet.
I also concur with JohnnyStew that the inclusion of two versions of Edge Of Seventeen is a mistake. Given the running time of the live version, that's another two tracks we have missed out on.

I totally agree with you! That magazine is the only one to report that tracklisting so far, and no other publication or site has reported/confirmed this info. Also, the person and website that reported this tracklisting are not from the US, so maybe the US release may slightly differenciate from the international release. But so far, the Nicksfix, her label, and Amazon (among other reliable sources) have not yet confirmed any of this info.

It just fascinates me that the live performances most fans hold up today as the benchmark of Stevie's career ('The Wild Heart' tour, for example) are also many of the ones that were reviewed the harshest at the time. We say she was "on fire" and "committed" and "passionate," while the critics said she was "erratic," "inconsistent" and that her voice was shot.

Meanwhile, I rarely ever read a negative review of her current concerts. They'll make comments like "Nicks has gracefully adapted the songs to suit her lower register," or "Her range isn't what it used to be, but the lower octaves carried her well through a two-hour show."
And, about "Rhiannon"... you know, that "old grey mare that ain't what she used to be ( ;) )... the LA Daily News said, "Nicks performed her classic 'Rhiannon' flawlessly, with an understated instrumental accompaniment that accentuated her voice -- a more confident voice that has acquired a sense of urgency without sacrificing her familiar plaintive plea."

It's an intriguing dichotomy. To me, at least.

I think the band had some really good pot and some good coke on the Tusk tour and that is what contributed to those performances being that way. If you've ever hoovered up a giant rail and then went out in front of 20000 people you'd probably be the same way. ( I don't mean you specifically but in the general sense.) I know back in my heydey, depending on the coke, it was sometimes hard for me to be in a room with five people. And then there were the nights when we'd do it at work and have to be in a room with a couple of hundred people or worse a couple of thousand. Depending on how high the crowd was, sometimes it didn't matter. But there were times when you knew people were looking at you thinking "This bitch is high." And you'd just try to maintain. I think that is sometimes what we saw in Stevie's performances. The Japan '77 shows come to mind.

The reviews aren't negative because they aren't from people who give a ****.
Back in the day, it was all about nailing someone who was worshipped, but frequently giving subpar performances due to her relentless drug abuse.
It was truthful, but it had an agenda. It was all about tearing down an idol who, to anyone who wasn't as ripped as she was, clearly gave erratic, inconsistent, and frequently unprofessional performances. I think it is only in hindsight that many of these shows seem great - simply because the voice of those days is gone, as is the confidence, experimentation and unbridled exuberance that was clearly fueled by a voracious drug addiction.

I saw occasional performances that were all of the things you quoted me as saying. But they were far and few between. Sometimes all in the same night. And her voice was shot, from song to song. It still is.

The intriguing dichotomy in the legit press reviews is a result of the passage of time, and the sympathy she has garnered from having survived addictions and staggering career gaffes that would kill most normal human beings and would have shamed most performers out of existence. Many critics these days are regarded as taking cheap shots if they point out the obvious drawbacks in her shows. They're just shocked she's still alive. Sometimes I am too.

The legit press cuts her a lot of slack. As I human being, I cut her plenty. As a performer, I cut her very little. As bored as I frequently have been by her lately, a small part of me thinks she might actually start giving a damn again.
That part is the same relative size as the part of me that believes we will liberate Iraq and acheive peace in the middle east.

Once she got clean..I think critics became nicer toward her..I also read lots of not great or kind reviews from the most recent Dreams Tour/Gold Dust Tour. calling her "outdated.".her "sandpaper vocals". With her feet on the ground now..I think they tend to be kinder. I know she has been criticized throughout her carreer as you stated..BUT..Your perspective can change when you realize..wow..that is when the energy was there and the vocals.
Stevie was always first and foremost "The Voice"...when that began to change..many people's opinions of her changed with it.

Both are amusing to watch.

Have you ever heard what it sounds like when they try to pitch a deep voice up to a high note? You get The Chipmunks.
Not all the ProTools in the world can make THAT big of a pitch change and still make it sound natural.

Stevie's hitting those notes. Listen to it with headphones on.

I just don't think she can do it on her own now. Her head voice has not been in that kind of condition since 1982....I think it was remixed. They know how to make it all sound like one vocal these days. Because if she really were even capable of that. I cannot believe she would not at least give us stronger and higher vocals on her albums.

although I love her little headvoice on TISL...(thanks to Sheryl Crow)...it is not the same confidant remixed vocal offered up by Deep Dish..and anyway..that is what Deep Dish does ...they put a spin on it...

Speaking of Stevie and critics, I went back about a month ago and read many reviews of Stevie's first three solo albums. As were her stage performances during this period, these albums are considered by most to be her best work (apart from Fleetwood Mac) but most of the reviews I read were not flattering to say the least. They were especially crititcal of the Wild Heart but even Bella Donna and especially Rock a Little got really bad reviews. I just thought it was very interesting that she was getting such bad reviews even though she was at the peak of her mainstream popularity.

I, for one, actually prefer tragic and bad to boring.

To whit, I get drinks and/or pee during Rhiannon, Dreams, Landslide, If Anyone Falls, Leather and Lace, and a few others. Even if I spent a grand on the show and the hotel.

It's all about the experience of meeting the other fans, having some fun and seeing the show for me. I still love the anticipation of waiting for her to walk on stage and hoping for just a glimpse of that greatness. I still see it from time to time.

Just curious ..where you actually in attendance at any of The Wild Heart shows?

That was what I was going to ask. Her stage presence was so compelling then. She created drama with her every movement. And to think, I saw her at the very show where Joe Walsh would take her for a ride in his jeep the next day to see the drinking fountain he had made for his daughter that was killed in a car accident. And from that experience she would write HAEWAFY.
The cloak that she wore at that show (the same one she wore on the cover of The Wild Heart) was fantastic and added such a sense of drama. If I remember correctly, she performed BATB in it. My only complaint about that tour was that Curry Grant had the stage very dimly lit for that tour. I often wondered if she asked him for it to be that way so as to bring us in to the world of Stevie.
Sure there are boots from the Wild Heart shows out there. Not one of them really does her much justice. The only one that comes close is David O's from the Inglewood Forum. That sounded like a hell of a show. I think some of the younger fans might feel differently about these shows if they were actually able to see them on video or DVD. Unfortunately there is only one partial show from that tour in wide circulation.

hi all...did u not think her voice last year on insider w/t.p. was fantastic...it was so pure and clear i actually thought she was as good as the original insider...so she can still hit the high notes but she can't strain her voice and hit them...tom asked the audience to keep quiet so they could hear her and it was awesome...on deepdish dreams i think again she hit the high notes because she was in a studio where it was quiet...i have an ipod and i love to sing along to songs but when i have my earphones on my voice changes to a screech and crack because i can't hear the music as clearly...just my general observation about the changes in stevie's voice...also now she's wearing earplugs and that could be a reason she's flat sometimes...take care...pat

Well, I've come to the conclusion that some of Stevie's fans will never be satisfied with what she does today. I've been happy that she has been touring nonstop for the last 5 years. She's active, and I don't find her performances uninspiring, AT ALL. I think the Gold Dust Tour and her appearance with TP and The Heartbreakers last year were some of her best. And I have seen her for the last 30 years in concert, so I too was there. Stevie doesn't have to prove to me that she is a great writer and singer, she's done that many times before. Sure, I'd love for her to come out with a new record, with new songs on it. But at this point, I don't think it's all about what I want, or her fans want, it's about what Stevie wants. I think she's earned that right. She's always loved being on the road more than being in the studio, so perhaps she's just out there doing her thing. Maybe realizing that she won't be able to do it to the extent she is today, for much longer. And I think it's great that she's reconnecting with some of the "Highwaymen" in her life. So, I'm going to grab this best of release, which I think is a nice little package, and have a blast seeing this amazing woman up on the stage AGAIN this year, taking me away from it all, for just a little while. :xoxo:

Old news, but...

I know she doesn't have new things to say, I have TISL. I don't want her to say new things. I want her to say old things she said before. But has never or rarely done onstage. I don't even have the complaint of her stage performances being boring. I just want to hear her do more variety of her own songs. How hard can that be? But we only get one or two per...year?

I love that she tours so much, it is more fun to me than a new album. I want it to be waaaay more fun. Like with 3-5 different songs each tour cycle! I think she loves bringing out a showstopping performance like BATB was, we all damn near sh*t our pants when she brought that out in Vegas and it was so beautiful. Well, I would love to sh*t my pants like that four or so times in a show. There are clearly quite a few songs of hers that she could do great justice to besides the usual.
Whatever, thank god she did Insider.

I feel both ways. I don't know that "pissy" is the right word, more like "hungry" and "sorrowful". I am so happy that she did, it makes me say, "why not more?". But hopefully she will at least keep bringing out a couple suprises each tour. I hope that people's positive reactions will make her add even one or two more for each show. She should be proud of all her songs (well, almost all  ), she was proud when she wrote them - and she shouldn't let solely her radio hits dictate how she herself feels about her entire catalogue. She should let her passion for the songs dictate it. You know I love her shows, over and over. I just want her to know that we like so many of her songs, are so passionate about them that we hunger to hear her beautiful voice sing them for us again. And that we want the rest of her audience to know that she has so many great songs besides the ones they hear ad nauseum on the radio. I feel like proud parent who wants everyone to watch videos of every cute thing their little angel ever did.

All the articles, including billboard, keep saying that its going to be a tour WITH Chris Issac. Now I have nothing against him (I loved Solitary Man and Its Late with him at the AHI), but I think if its a duo show then we have a less chance of seeing songs like Talk to Me, Rooms on Fire, and Blue Denim (from the new album) being played. I think if its just a solo tour backing up the set with a 1 hr 45 minute show then we have a good chance. But I think if its a Chris AND Stevie show then we are gunna get the new duet songs and the Stevie solo Henley set from 2 years ago.

Any thoughts???

I just saw this posted on 'another board'.
All of my friends agree that this tracklisting is ridiculous. The same song should NEVER be put twice on a single-disc greatest hits. We would have had enough with a videoclip of the performance of "Edge of 17"...giving more room to maybe "Everyday" "Long Way to go" "Maybe love will change your mind".... or even a different Fleetwood Mac song. I mean, If its going to be a compilation of both careers, include something unique. "Sara" is her masterpiece and "Beautiful Child" has been popular the past couple years in live shows.

*sigh*

Back in the day.... (Stevie) frequently (gave) subpar performances due to her relentless drug abuse.
(T)o anyone who wasn't as ripped as she was, (she) clearly gave erratic, inconsistent, and frequently unprofessional performances.

It still is.Perhaps I misunderstood you, but it sounds like, in the 30 years you've been attending Stevie's concerts, you've found her to be "off" far more than she's ever been "on." Most especially in recent years, but even back in her "heyday."

Not that I think every fan is required to love everything she does, but, wow, what makes you continue wasting money to see her then?

Why exactly doesn't she have anything new to say only because she isn't releasing a new album? Maybe she just doesn't feel the moment has come, maybe she feels to connect more with her audience on live shows, maybe she's afraid, of the reception it might have, maybe she doesn't feel all that support (gee... I wonder why... ). Doesn't she deserve at least by fans the same credit it was given to the "Terrence Malick of music industry"?
There's a passive aggressiveness towards her that's really boring instead of tragic and bad.

I'm confident it's a new vocal, as well. It should be noted that singers often rely on their falsetto to hit high notes. Stevie has been using hers for years, and was asked about her "soulful falsetto" in the 2001 version of Sorcerer.

It's not really as simple as "off" and "on". Sure, in the old prime there were were sour notes and listlessness(76-80). And in the early solo years (81-86) there were crazy drunken and coked up moments of absolute gibberish, exhaustion, weak singing, and falling in the pit. But there were blinding flashes of brilliance in there too. There was even genius in the incoherence sometimes. But all in all it was pretty entertaining - if not of stunning quality. From the zombie years (87-92), onward there's been a certain dullness factor. With some great moments tossed in. Why do I spend the money? It's more about hanging with my friends and the sheer silliness of it all. 5 songs a night are consistently high quality. It's more ritual than anything else. I spend much more on things that aren't any fun at all. it's just money. There's more.

Clearly. You see drama, and I see a script. With a few exceptions.

It would be pitiful if she were still a drug addict. I'd never encourage that. And half the drugs she did weren't stimulants. So talk about a bummer. I'd hardly advocate a Klonopin GDW.
But the compelling moments of BATB, SB, FFG(sometimes), R&R, GDW and BC are born out of actually enjoying the songs and putting emotional energy into them. Not from drugs. So, as it always comes down to lately - it's a matter of being able to do it, but not wanting to be bothered.

I don't know, It is hard to explain why I feel this way. I guess I know Stevie has been through so much in her life and to still feel inspired to get out there and sing after all of these years... It just moves me.

You could always give the ol' Sugar Daddy thing a whirl. Although you're not that much older than me, so I guess it would have to be Sugar Big Brother. :D

This is doubtful. But I could give you the number of my financial planner.

I find those songs compelling, too, but I also still find "Dreams," "Rhiannon," "Edge of Seventeen" and "Landslide" to be compelling.

I'm sure her bank account loves you for that.
I'd pay out the nose to see a full set without any of them. But when oh when would I have bar and pee breaks? There may be a raison d'etre for them after all!

Others tire of them, but I never do. There's a reason they're among my favorite songs and I could listen to Stevie singing them anytime.
And, for the record, I do think Stevie still enjoys singing them. You see something "scripted," while I see something that has simply been polished and perfected over years of performances.

 I've seen the boredom in her eyes. Even in Edge, sometimes.
All bueno. One man's polished is another man's played out.

"Polished and perfected over the years"... yes that is a good description of her recent performances. I do see this difference in recent shows. Stevie I am sure knows what works and what doesn't in a concert setting. So, you combine the polished and perfected methods of performing a song and add in those unexpected flashes of shear Stevie fabulousness and you have a woman on fire up on that stage that rocks our world.

I'd pay out the nose to see a full set without any of them. The ironic thing is that she doesn't make any money off of me when it comes to tours. My money only goes to CDs & DVDs.
But she is getting your money, boring performances or not, so I guess it balances.

Indeed I do. Boredom projects a long distance. This exchange is all beneath academic anyway. You don't even go to her concerts. "Landslide" was interesting at Stormy Weather with the different arrangement. Courtney Love singing "Rhiannon" recently was tons of fun. The Deep Dish "Dreams" is a hoot.
It isn't the songs, its the dreary performances and arrangements of them that don't hold my interest. And I totally do leave the room during "Landslide".
And sometimes during "Rhiannon" too. "Dreams" not so much. It's early enough in the show so that no fluid issues need to be dealt with.

OMG. Get off the cross. Being smart with money is being smart with money. Besides, financial planners are rarely paid by the consumer. They get money from mutual fund companies and when stocks and bonds are moved.

So I don't see how my thoughts on the matter have any less bearing or merit than yours.

They'd be compelling for the novelty alone for a bit. Just for the shock value. But you've got to be kidding...one person goes to shows and witnesses them. Frequently very close up. The other never goes, but watches on video and listens to audio. And the input of each is of equal relevance and merit? The experiences are somehow parallel?

Why exactly do people even go to live shows then? Or shuttle lift offs? Or sports events? Parades? This is a hysterical position.

The RP stuff in Vegas on it was fun. And she really works it. The end kind of works live. That BN era thing is great for the harmonies of course. Then again, it was 30+ years ago. All those BN shows had soaring and fantastic harmonies.

My family has faced a rash of health and financial setbacks. Pure and simple. Having a financial planner to tell me how to wisely invest the money I don't have to begin with, isn't going to change that.

I don't begrudge you the money you have and the ability to spend it however you please... I'm sure you've worked very hard for what you have... but I still think your response sounded arrogant. Especially since my initial comments to you were meant in jest.

Granted, it's from the comfort of my own home, but I'm still viewing it. I can hear when Stevie's flat, I can see when she looks tired or sick. The fact that I'm not in the same room with her, doesn't change that. And, hell, being able to re-watch a song over and over again would actually put the performance under more scrutiny.

But if my opinions don't matter on this topic, then I'll just point to Joe (jwd), who's been a fan as long as you have and has been attending shows as long as you have, and still thoroughly enjoys himself and the songs Stevie performs.

The live experience changes everything. A tape gives you two senses. The non verbal cues alone apeak volumes. There's no way to properly gauge the nuances and energy without being there. No possible way. And most of the stuff posted isn't full of pro shot close ups so it's moot. Simply said, it's two dimensional.

But if my opinions don't matter on this topic, then I'll just point to Joe (jwd), who's been a fan as long as you have and has been attending shows as long as you have, and still thoroughly enjoys himself and the songs Stevie performs.

They matter for what they are - the opinions of someone who isn't ever there. They're reviews of half assed amateur video and audio recordings.
I'm not discussing this with Joe. Maybe he and I have different standards and expectations. That would be another discussion.

I'm very late to the discussion, but I really like that Silver Springs is on the tracklist.

I was listening to remastered Rumours yesterday and thinking yet again what a total travesty it was that this masterpiece of a song -- Stevie's best ever -- didn't make it on the original album. I imagine Stevie thinks the same. So she probably wants to make sure that as many people as possible hear the original version. I'm sure there are many people who will buy a Stevie "best of" that never got the remastered Rumours and this is a way to present the song to an entire new group of people.

I'm not that bugged by the tracklist, except that it doesn't have one or two new songs. I figure this CD isn't for me, it's for the non-hardcore fan.
