I thought I'd start something where anyone could ask a music trivia question and see who can answer it. I'll start it off.
The backup singers for Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver, later formed a band that had a mega-smash #1 hit. What is the name of the band?

Jefferson Airplane is the only act to play at all three festivals (AND the 1968 Isle Of Wight Festival in the UK)
Ravi Shankar, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Canned Heat, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Country Joe & The Fish, Big Brother & The Holding Company (Janis Joplin) and The Grateful Dead played Woodstock & Monterey, but not Altamont
CSNY played Altamont & Woodstock, but they didn't exist as a unit for Monterey...The Byrds (David Crosby) & Buffalo Springfield (Stephen Stills & Neil Young) both played Monterey

On the UK charts, which songs were #1 on two separate occassion with the exact same recorded version?
Edit: There's officially 5 songs by very well-known artists.
Edit #2: The answer is below:
Strictly speaking, only five chart-topping tracks have ever left the chart and then returned to top it a second time in exactly the same version. They are:
"My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison (1971 and 2002; though with different 'B-sides'),
"Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen (1975 and 1991, though on the latter occasion it was a double-A side with "These Are The Days Of Our Lives").
The one-a-week re-issue series commemorating what would have been Elvis Presley's 70th birthday in 2005 spawned a series of his old hits returning to the top spot. Each featured the original B side, though some CDs featured extra tracks. For this reason, they were all assigned new catalogue numbers. The full list of these (thus far) is:
"Jailhouse Rock" (1958 and 2005)
"One Night" / "I Got Stung" (1959 and 2005)
"It's Now Or Never" (1960 and 2005)

What's the longest song title ever to hit #1 on the Hot 100?
"The Stars on 45 Medley"? "Medley: Intro 'Venus' / Sugar Sugar / No Reply / I'll Be Back / Drive My Car / Do You Want to Know a Secret / We Can Work It Out / I Should Have Known Better / Nowhere Man / You're Going to Lose That Girl / Stars on 45"

 Hey, it was an honest mistake. They were passing it out. Why wouldn't it be safe, right? ;) Anyway, if you weren't going to be tripping during any sets at Woodstock (Of course, most people were tripping the WHOLE time), you would have definitely been tripping for the Grateful Dead set. So, as the Who sings, "You are FORGIVEN!":xoxo:

Around seven weeks ago, the leadsinger of a billboard number one band in 1970 died. Their hit is a true classic, and stormed the charts in different forms later on. The name of the band, singer and hit please.

I remember Cold Water Flat! I have no clue what the answer is to your other question is though. The only music deaths this year I can think of are James Brown and Sneaky Pete Kleinow from the Flying Burrito Bros.
But Gerald, I have a question for you: which gravel-voiced US singer did Sharon go see the other night who was playing with a sweet-voiced former member of Belle & Sebastian, who he released an album with last year? :D

It was AMAZING! Lanegan actually SMILED, and not once but several times!
He looked way healthier than I've seen him in years.
They played all the songs from Ballad Of The Broken Seas, plus each did some solo tracks. Lanegan left the stage for Isobel's solo stuff but she sang on I'll Take Care Of You and Wedding Dress. They also played a new song which sounded fantastic, and has left me hoping they will be recording together again in the future. Oh and they did a cover of a song I didn't know, a country-esque number. Isobel kept forgetting the words which made Lanegan laugh! So weird I've seen him play solo, and with the Screaming Trees, Queens Of The Stone Age and with The Twilight Singers but I've never seen him smile or laugh before. It was a great show. Isobel is beautiful and really talented (she played cello, piano, guitar and other instruments) and they sounded incredible together.
Oh and I still don't know the answer to your trivia question :o
EDIT: Dana knows anyhoo!

Hmmm...sounds like heaven. I saw Mark laugh at me when I met him backstage, shaked hands and talked with him for five minutes while both of us went for the coffeemachine. I think it was at Pukkelpop 2002 or so. He was very trained and totally off the brown **** at that time..and very friendly and good tempered.

1a) Name the bass player for the original Gary Lewis & The Playboys.
1b) Name three other MAJOR artists/bands this person was a member of.
Hint: Brian J. SHOULD know this one without looking it up.
