I know Antonella is not the best singer and I don't care because she sure is nice to watch (I'm a pig I know, but damn she's HOT) and she's pleasant enough when she sings. Although, it kills me when they make those poor people sing after their told to go home. So cruel.
cruel wouldn't have even been for them to pack her **** up and stick it on the side of the stage for her. she had to go. i'm sure she'll be in playboy or hustler in a year cause it's obvious she's not getting a recording contract from anyone but helen keller -- and we all know that's not possible

No. I'm getting to the point where I'm fast forwarding through performances after a few notes to the part where the judges respond. They need to step it up.

Ye of little faith. We all know their are plenty of hot singers who can't sing getting albums made. That goes the same with actors; great looking, but really bad at the craft. That's show business and business is the stronger word.
And yes, my heart will go on. She will be modeling no doubt and she got plenty of exposure for Hollywood to get tickled. Besides I always have the web photos. LOL.

Sadly, I was not drunk. Funny you call it a singing contest. The judges, when they feel their is an "upset" always say "this is a singing contest." But at the same time, they will make comments on their clothes, hair, style and once in awhile even say "it's the whole package." Bit of a mixed message don'tcha think?
I know Antonella is not the best singer and I don't care because she sure is nice to watch (I'm a pig I know, but damn she's HOT) and she's pleasant enough when she sings. Although, it kills me when they make those poor people sing after their told to go home. So cruel.
Aladdin/Sanjaya is very effeminate, but he is 17 and a gentle soul. I really don't mind him, he sings happy, peace, love songs. He is the most unusual contestant in the bunch, which makes him stand out. And cause he's so weird, you either love him or hate him.
The bottom line: Melinda Doolittle is gonna win and my front runner and she's so amazing vocally, not to mention so humble and very cute in her way. Although I love LaKisha, Stephanie and Brandon (in that order) as well. They're fun to watch and listen to.
Edit: How could I forget Gina and Blake (after my above list of favs). They're cool too. Just please, Gina, no more Heart songs.
I know, I was just busting your balls. I've missed you around here! :D BTW - I think it's Melinda for the win too. And I love Gina & Blake.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that I read about some of the special guests this season (the article didn't specify if they would all be guest judges though): J Lo, Tony Bennett, Bon Jovi, Gwen Stefani, Martina McBride. There may have been more, I can't recall.
2 hours tomorrow folks. Ladies & gentlemen, start your Tivo's.

I was so embarassed for everyone last night. it's was one big mess. LaKisha, Melinda, Jordin, Blake and Chris R. are the only ones that even sang their songs in tune and were consistent. they were all good, not great, but good. I wasn't jumping out of my skin for anyone.
and if the judges are going to critique the arrangments then don't let them change it. they keep bitching about it being a singing competition. make up your damn mind.

I agree. The judges keep telling the contestants to make the songs unique and their own yet when they actually do, the judges complain. I do have to agree with the judges on this one, however. I did not like Blake's rendition at all.
I really liked Jordin last night. Of course Melinda and Lakisha were good too.

I did not like Blake's rendition at all.
I like that he tried to mix it up, but it didn't work. Is it just me, or does he sing slowly. (Does that make sense?) He starts off about half a beat behind, and just never catches up with the band.
I liked Chris Sligh's Endless Clocks Love. I thought it was really interesting, and I'm not particularly a Coldplay fan. I'd much rather hear that than anything the "divas" scream out.

I watched this show last night...I usually do when it gets to 12. I watched a couple of weeks ago but for only what I could stand - five minutes.
After watching all the performances, taking into consideration Simon's comment about taking face/bod/style out of the equation, I turned my head during the brief performance replay. From this first show of 12, I like the voices of Stephanie, Lakisha, Chris and Brandon. Everyone else stinks! :D

Oy vey. What a f*cking mess that was. I didn't enjoy it at all. I'm not a big fan of Miss Ross, so that didn't help matters, but I think this is the most boring ep. of Idol I've ever seen. Right up there with the Barry Manilow show. ZZzzzzzzzzZZZzzzzzzz.....
Melinda was fab. Lakisha is always good too, but I wasn't a fan last night - I guess I just prefer Billie Holliday singing that song. Gina kicked ass on "Love Child" although I would have preferred her to do "Keep Me Hangin' On." Speaking of which, I was truly shocked that the judges tore Blake up like they did - I thought it was cool. Phil was much better than usual, but can this guy sing anything other than a ballad? We have yet to find out. Jordin did great, I like that girl.
Chris Sligh sounded fine, but I hated the arrangement too. Stephanie still bores me for some reason. Chris Richardson needs to pick a f*cking note & sing it - YOU DON'T NEED TO DO VOCAL RUNS DURING EVERY F*CKING WORD OF EVERY F*CKING SONG!" There, I feel better now. I actually yawned during Brandon's performance, still waiting for him to do better - I am waiting....I am waiting.... Haley almost had a nervous breakdown - I was torn between feeling bad for her & laughing at her.
Sanjaya. Why do they keep trying to make him look stranger? Seriously. It's just bizarre. The kid looks like a modern day Indian Leif Garrett with that hair - just leave it alone, it is what it is. All this primping & style changing every.single.week. is just drawing more attention to the fact that he's young & awkward & really, really bad. Of course, he's guranteed to stay in thanks to votefortheworst.com (f*ckers.)

It didn't seem like Diana really gave them much direction. And why oh why didn't anyone sing I'm Coming Out? That would have been fun. I don't know, maybe the kids are too young to remember the songs. And no one should ever f*ck with a Motown arrangement. :distress:

I'm so glad no one sang I'm Coming Out. Eeeegad. At least we were spaired 'Muscles' too LOL.
But where was 'Reflections,' 'Someday We'll Be Together,' and 'No Matter What Sign You Are?'
I'm sad to see Brandon go. He was my fav male contestant. Haley needed to go. She's awful. Even last night when they sang their group medley, she stuck out like a sore thumb and was off key (again). But the night before Simon was thinking with his dick and swayed the votes. Not to mention the whole little skit they did after her song. Spending that much time on a contestant after they perform (badly) will garner sympathy votes.

ITA with you about Reflections - I kept waiting for it. One of my fave songs ever.
And I did like Brandon, but he wasn't singing up to his potential, IMO. He def. could have done a lot better, but he never shined after he made top 24. Obviously I would have preferred Sanjaya or Haley to go, but that's life.
I do find it a bit odd that Sanjaya was in the bottom 2, since votefortheworst.com was pushing really hard for him, and dialidol.com predicted that he was in the top few contestants as far as vote count.

The Quality of Mersey
British Invasion night on ''American Idol'' inspires some bloody good performances and some that needed to work out the kinks, but an emotional little girl steals the show
By Michael Slezak
Forgive me for trotting out the old cliché about a picture being worth a thousand words, but can any of you think up an adjective that describes Sanjaya Malakar's cover of ''You Really Got Me'' as accurately as the image of the sobbing little girl the Idol producers kept cutting to during tonight's episode, the British Invasion theme night? Now mind you, I don't know who the girl is. And I don't know if she was crying out of joy, or terror, or pain, or amusement — or some combination of the four. But with even Simon deferring to the evening's unlikeliest star — ''I think the little girl's face says it all'' — it was clear something spectacularly awful was going down.
Indeed, watching Sanjaya, sporting his hideous gloved sweater, doing his Gene Simmons tongue before the commercial break, grinding suggestively in front of Paula, and growling lyrics like ''You've got me so I can't sleep at night,'' all I could think was ''No, Sanjaya, you've got me so I can't sleep at night!'' Seriously, I'm worried that if I close my eyes, I might hear the screaming of the Kinks. On the plus side, though, now I can finally relate to friends and relatives who grew up on upstate New York farms where they had to witness the slaughter of livestock during their formative years.
As off-the-charts heinous as Sanjaya was tonight (note that Paula told the kid he was ''a lot of fun,'' not actually in tune), I've got a feeling of nameless dread that many of us Idol fans will be sobbing like schoolgirls after he survives the cut on Wednesday night's results show.
Maybe I'm wrong. But I'm betting it'll be Stephanie Edwards, a singer I've found consistently enjoyable if not always spectacular this season, who'll pay the price for a disastrous cover of Dusty Springfield's ''You Don't Have to Say You Love Me.'' Clad in an ill-fitting blue satin corset dress and black spike-heel boots, Stephanie started her performance tentatively and just got worse from there; she was sharper than Sharon Stone's ice pick on most of the big notes and displayed all the energy of a week-old helium balloon hovering depressingly over the carpet. I don't know what's happened to Stephanie, but Simon's right — where are the rawness and the passion of her previous efforts, like ''How Come You Don't Call Me'' or ''Dangerously in Love''? She'll be lucky if she gets a chance to get her groove back next week.
I'm not saying that I want Stephanie to go home, or that she doesn't deserve to make this season's top-10 tour, but sometimes on Idol, momentum is just as important as overall talent. Of course, if voters don't judge Stephanie on this week alone, it could spell trouble for Haley ''Clock In, Clock Out'' Scarnato or Gina Glocksen.
Now I've taken a lot of flak on the TV Watch message boards for my long-standing dislike of Haley's performances, but you've got to admit it was pretty comical hearing her say she wanted to give an ''aggressive'' performance of ''Tell Him'' (an Exciters hit covered by Brit Billie Davis, and thus qualifying for this night's theme), then deliver it with all the passion of a non-English-speaker who'd learned the lyrics phonetically a few hours before the telecast. Did Haley hear anything that Lulu, who was an extremely perceptive vocal coach for the female contestants, told her about delivering the lyrics in staccato bursts? Or was it just that Haley spent so much time selecting and squeezing into her gold halter top and brown hot pants that she couldn't be bothered to work on things like, oh, not running out of breath every time she launched into the chorus? Simon said it best: ''People are gonna be talking about a lot more than your singing.'' But with Maxim and Stuff readily available on the newsstand, is there really any reason to vote Scarnato?
While I find Gina's personality more endearing than Haley's, I'd have to concede her rendition of the Rolling Stones' ''Paint It Black'' was actually the weaker vocal tonight. Part of Gina's problem is conviction; being a rocker involves more than wearing a blouse made of black leather strips and growling the words ''black as night!'' But even if Gina really gets in touch with her inner rock goddess, is she any more talented than season-2 castoff Kimberly Caldwell or season 4's gravelly Nadia Turner? Gina was correct when, responding to Simon's critique, she said, ''I sang, I performed.'' Just not particularly well!
Phil Stacey, who, when he's at his best, might possibly have the strongest voice of all the men in the competition, grappled with a similar lack of conviction on ''Tobacco Road.'' Granted, the dude sounded pretty solid to me (when I could separate his voice from that overzealous backup singer), but there was a paint-by-numbers feel to the performance: A. Grab mike stand. B. Stalk stage sternly. C. Sweat mightily. D. Howl! Phil certainly ought to survive into next week, but he's running out of time to get comfortable on the stage, and to learn to feel every word of every song he sings. That said, at least he didn't struggle with the low notes of his number this week.
The same cannot be said for Chris Sligh, who picked the night's best song (the Zombies' ''She's Not There'') but bordered on inaudible (and out of breath) for about a quarter of the performance. Indeed, the ''she'' in the song's title could've been referring to Chris's lower register, and while I'm all for interaction with the audience, I found Chris's walk through the crowd extremely distracting.
But lest I sound like a total downer — yeah, yeah, I know, too late — five of the night's performances impressed me, albeit to differing degrees. Can we start with LaKisha Jones' ''Diamonds Are Forever''? Oh, Kiki! Thanks for not listening to Lulu's pleas that you cover ''You're My World'' (what?). Of course, you probably couldn't hear her over my howling insistence that you cover my second-favorite James Bond theme ever. And, yes, Kiki, you covered it well. Didn't miss a note, even. The only problem is, much as you did with the $1 million in diamonds you were rocking, you were merely borrowing Shirley Bassey's classic — right down to her gloriously campy phrasing and inflection. Sure, you wore 'em nicely, but Kiki, if you really want to go farther than sixth place, you're going to have to put down the crutch of karaoke and find a way to inhabit these songs. Tell me you'll work on it, okay?
I'm worried that if LaKisha doesn't develop her own style, she might get booted before the likes of Chris Richardson, who delivered ''Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying'' with not one single annoying vocal run. Yeah, he was a tad nasal, and no, I don't think I'll ever root for the guy. But for the first time in five live performances, I could see why he's one of season 6's male front-runners. Now we'll have to see if Chris R. reverts back to his melismatic ways without the spot-on coaching from Peter Noone.
Mr. Noone also seemed to help Blake Lewis stay focused on the beauty of the melody of his song choice, the Zombies' ''Time of the Season.'' If I'm being honest (and why wouldn't I be?), Blake's beatboxing kind of felt like an afterthought tonight, but for the first time since week 1 of the semifinals, his vocals were almost entirely on key — and there is no better lyrical interpreter among this season's male contestants. (Am I crazy for saying the guy's voice reminds me of Morrissey?) Bonus points should (and will) be given for the jaunty camel jacket, pink shirt, V-neck sweater, and fierce plaid pants. How can I get Blake's look for less? No, seriously!
I never imagined I'd say this (and I may regret it in the morning), but I actually think Melinda Doolittle could learn a little something from Blake. Not vocally, of course — the former backup singer appears to have struck some kind of Faustian pact that guarantees she'll not hit a sour note for the remainder of the competition — but rather when it comes to song selection. For the second week running, Melinda chose a show-tune ballad (Oliver!'s ''As Long As He Needs Me'') over any number of alternatives that could've helped her seem, well, maybe just a tiny bit contemporary. Not that I haven't loved the ''My Funny Valentine''-''Home''-''I'm a Woman'' marathon, but if Mindy Doo's as good as I think she is, then she can handle the Rolling Stones (''Gimme Shelter'') or the Kinks (''All Day and All of the Night'') or anything she damn well pleases!
If Melinda's not willing to hip it up a little (aside from her vastly improved hairstyle, that is), she could leave an opening for Jordin Sparks to snatch the Idol crown. And this week, for the very first time, I'm starting to think that wouldn't be the worst way for season 6 to end. Indeed, while I haven't shared the judges' enthusiasm for the deeply excitable teenager for the last few weeks, tonight I thought they didn't give her enough credit for her powerful, passionate rendition of Bassey's ''I (Who Have Nothing),'' which, no exaggeration, I'd rank in the top-20 Idol performances of all time. Paula was right — who cares how young Jordin is? Either her performances hold up against her competitors', or they don't. And while Simon made it sound like a bad thing that he wanted to jump off a bridge after Jordin's number, let's keep in mind that she was singing about soul-crushing, gut-busting unrequited love. The fact that Jordin actually made the surly Brit experience an emotion in the process, oh, that's just gravy.

it's funny that LaKisha gets ripped and Jordin gets praised when they both borrowed Shirley's phrasing and style. LaKisha maybe a little more, but the inflection changes that Jordin used were stylistic because of her vocal range and timbre.
that said, I do think Jordin did a better job.

Poor Stephanie. I liked her and she fell into the cracks since their are so many black singers to keep track of. Besides the "judges" always put her down, swaying votes again. I was so hoping Chris R was going home. He sucks, his voice is really whiny and he is nothing special. My puppy Moby howls in misery when he sings.
Chris Sligh, Haley and the bald dude need to go ASAP. But Haley has been slutting it out and using her hot body to market herself, so she may stay for awhile. When she shook her tits in front of the judges I was laughing so hard and knew she wouldn't go anywhere this week.
Still got my money on Melinda, but it will come down to her, LaKisha, Jordan and Blake. Even if Blake is not the American idol, he will get a recording contract regardless. He has huge potential in the teen market.

I disagree. I admit that this is the first season of this show I have ever seen, so my basis of comparison to other seasons is non existant.
I think the true underdog here is Blake. He really is the only serious male competition to jar Melinda and LaKisha from the top 3. I've never voted for Jordan and never will as I'm not taken by her. She's been singing ballads for several shows, but if you see her uptempo numbers she performed earlier, she really has no physical moves. She's kinda laugable.
In all seriousness, I bet the majority of teens are voting for Gina. Rock is very hot right now in the teen market.
But don't forget it is the number 1 show in America. That means grandmas are voting too. Funny, I was at Norm's a week or so ago and a strange couple (older) were rushing to pay so they could get home to vote on Idol. Everyone is voting.

It will not be Lakisha.....cuz we have Jennifer Hudson now..who is the whole package really. It wiil not be Melinda..because she is too polished..remember LaToya...same problem. I love Melinda..I am just looking at the big picture...Melinda is terrific..do not get me wrong. She is too polished and the Teeny Boppers who rule the MAJORITY VOTE..will pick their own PROM QUEEN..and it will be the person they most relate to = Jordin Sparks!
Oh really? I find it highly doubtful teenagers voted for Taylor Hicks. Please.
The current poll on AI website shows 48% people think Stephanie leaving as the wrong decision. Voting patterns change each week. Polished or not, Melinda has the edge and deservedly so. LaKisha may win for payback time for letting Hudson go early. Who the hell knows what goes through America's head when it comes down to picking who they like.
Jordan is not going to win. Dream on, silly dreamer.

The Abba week was dreadful on the X Factor in the UK. With the exception of Leona Lewis singing Chiquitita
Throwing in these types of themes is really a good idea. Throws contestants out of their comfort zones. Let's us see if they can really sing and work a song. These types of themes also bring in the "forgotten lyrics" performances and upsets voting trend favorites.

I've only watched one full episode of this show in the entire time that it's been on.. 60's night a week or two or whenever ago it was. I've seen clips from other seasons, etc.. it just really isn't my interest.
I do have to say, though, that I think it sucks that these websites are voting for Sanjaya just to be douchebags about the show. To a certain extent, I think it's entertaining because the show really is, basically, a farce. But then, to think that the winner gets money, and it is a show about singing.. should he go beyond singers like Jordan and Lakeesha (I hope that's her name, I'm sorry).. that's not good, because they obviously have what it takes to make it and have just needed a chance to shine.. they get it, and then it's robbed because some people don't like a show and can't just turn the channel without bitching about it and ruining it for others.
My parents enjoy this show so much. It's really frustated my mom for the last several weeks that Sanjaya is still on. After watching the others perform so well, it's really just kind of pitiful to watch him not be able to match up what-so-ever. Like a puppet. I would be so embarassed to know that I only made it that far because some people don't like Simon and some just don't like the show, period.
Oh, and Melinda.. Doolittle? She was awesome on 60's night... what a voice!

Not sure what planet you're on, but here in America it's called Freedom of Speech.
Now onto some notes. Melinda was wonderful and imagine a singer who can actually really sing win on this show. Amazing. Of course, even though the moron Simon whines "it's a singing competition," had to say he hated her clothes. Again, nice mixed message. But we all know what it's really all about.
I'm glad Chris S finally was sent home. He tries so hard to be cool that he ends up looking uncomfortable and constipated on stage. Bye!
So next week I sure would like to see Bat Boy go home. Haley too, but she has great legs, so another week of her won't kill me. Besides the mute button is my best friend when she sings.

and imagine a singer who can actually really sing win on this show. Amazing.
Well, it's happened before. Kelly Clarkson can really sing. Fantasia too, though she might not be everyone's cup of tea. I don't have a problem with the idea that in addition to being able to sing, the winner should also have charisma, look great, feel modern, and be at ease onstage and in front of the camera. It's a whole package thing--but of course being able to sing has to be the main component of that package.
Sorceress
03-30-2007, 02:14 PM
ps: Carrie Underwood can sing too, though her style isn't my favorite. Reuben and Taylor can sing, but they don't have the whole package, IMO. That's why they haven't been as successful as Kelly, Carrie, and to a lesser degree, Fantasia. But hey, you can go see Fantasia on Broadway to judge for yourself.

Haley is not given enough credit. She has a nice tone to her voice and she has good control. Let’s face it, she doesn’t have the big voice that Melinda or Lakisha has but that doesn’t matter, it’s about the overall performance and the delivery. She has gotten better with each performance. The week she messed up the words a bit, “Missing You.” If you watch that again, you will see that she never stopped singing, she forged ahead like a professional and kept singing till she found her place. If you would have blinked you wouldn’t have even known she fumbled the words. The judges were way off the mark when they criticized her last week, “True Colors.” It was just about flawless. She never over sang the song, she was on the mark.

I respect your opinion. I think the problem is, is that American Idol is big on “big voices.” Anyone that doesn’t have that big voice or wide range is considered beneath those that do. Every winner pretty much has a voice that soars. What I like about Haley is that she has a good range but she never over sings the songs. I actually do find a lot of emotion in her performances, mainly “Missing You” and “True Colors.” I find her to be completely humble and genuine, much like Elliott Yamin from last year. I’m drawn to people like that. I know Haley won’t win but I don’t care about that, I like her.

I know what you're saying about the "big voice" thing and I agree. That's why I like Gina. :D I liked Nadia Turner a couple seasons back too, and Elliott's good too (did you see his album debuted at, like, #3 this week?!) Surprisingly, last night's show was one of the best this season IMO. Creepy Phil sucked, as did Sanjaya, of course. As soon as Ryan announced the groups, I knew who was the bottom 3. But I really was shocked Gina went - should have been Phil. That's right. Sanjaya lives on. I'm glad Tony B likes Sanjaya. He is so fun to watch. I'm a bit bummed he trimmed his hair, but it looks ripe for a bob style on his next performance.
No surprise Gina left, she really got worse and worse each week. Bat Boy Baldy needs to go soon right along with Haley. Since it is one at a time, their turn will come. Although Haley in spite of having no clue what she was singing, her vomit inducing Betty Boop shoulder move at the end, it was her tits and legs that kept her in one more week. Bat Boy and Haley really suck.
Melinda should win as she is really the singer here. Maybe LaKisha as I go back and forth on them. Blake was pretty good making a song about killing as bubblegum. Chris Timberlake (looking slightly inbred) managed to dazzle. Doesn't take much to wonder what Timberlake would do, and then do it. Jordan was not so good and occasionally off key. But her big note at the end sways America again! LOL.

This just in: Michael Buble's pre-order CD spiked to the #3 Top Seller on Amazon. Yes, it helps to be seen on Idol even if your music sucks. People will buy anything.
Also, don't give so much credit to Stern for helping Sanjaya. Stern is capping off VFTW's wave. Not to mention the media. They're going nuts for him. Sanjaya's phone line the other night was hard to get through all the way up to the end of the 2 hour vote time frame. He's not going anywhere soon. I sure loved it if he upset the finals.
I think the final 3 will be:
Melinda
LaKisha
Blake

^ Yeah, Howard found out about VFTW & thought it was hilarious, so he told his listeners to vote for whoever VFTW recommended. My husband listens to HS every day - people call in & tell him they voted for the entire 2 hours each week - some are getting over 200 votes in. Considering most people vote for their favorite once, maybe 5 or 10 times if they're really into it, sincere votes are obviously being outnumbered by the joke votes.
And I had never actually heard or seen Buble perform before. Not impressed.

I haven't watched AI this season until tonight. IMO, this season's prospects are HORRIBLE!!!
All have zero charisma and VERY mediocre talent. In fact, the Sanjaya dude sounded just as bad/good as the rest of them tonight! Is this REALLY what the American Pop music scene is about these days? Mediocre kareoke??
For that reason, and the reason that I partially blame shows like this for making music these days have no originality, and lastly for the reason that I'm part of the Howard Stern "vote for Sanjaya" movement, I voted for Sanjaya - 30 times!!

Not one latin blood up there singing on latin Music week. At least Sanjaya sang in spanglish. That was a real treat. Go Sanjaya! He's not going anywhere this week.
Haley was ridiculous and her facial expressions are kind of scary. I want her to go, but for some reason I think America just really loves mediocrity (and perhaps legs).
Bat Boy was his gruesome self. His song was not a good choice for him. I mean surely no one had any latin vibe, but it was very apparent with him.
LaKisha and Melinda were not as bad as the Judges may want you to think. Not great, but not bad.
Chris Timberfake was so bad. I mean really bad. All that wailing really hurt my ears. Wow is this guy bad (and slightly inbred).
Blake, the underdog, was good. The best one of the night until Sanjaya performed. Go Sanjaya!

Jamie, I am so pissed at you right now! If you had been watching the previous weeks, you would have seen that Melinda, Lakesha, Jordin & Blake have real, genuine talent. Last night's show was the most boring by far, and was not a good representation of what they can do. If these talented people lose out to Sanjaya because of this big f*cking joke, that will be a real shame. I love Howard, but he's really screwing with people's careers this time & I think it's bull****. I can only hope that they'll end up with record deals anyway - just be prepared to get stuck with hearing about Sanjaya for years to come.
That being said - I was as shocked as Simon that Sanjaya was actually pretty good last night. :o Yes, his eyef*cking the camera made me gag, but he was in tune & sang well. Blake was a highlight for me (although I hate that song) and Jordin was fun, as usual. Melinda did OK, but I think she was so uncomfortable with the "sexy" vibe that she played it up too much & it seemed really fake. Lakesha bored me. I've come to really dislike Phil for some reason. Haley's a sneaky little whore - Simon said what I've been thinking for weeks "you can't sing, so you might as well get some votes by showing off your body." I thought Chris was painful - that key change was a mess, I thought sure they'd bitch about it, guess me & Richard are the only ones who thought that.

Anyway, my point is that the only one I got a busy signal for at first was Chris. I also eventually got a busy signal when I voted multiple times for Lakesha. ^ I vote once for everyone to see if I get through - at 9:45pm, I got through on the first try for every contestant. And that's how I've been voting too - I'm so desperate for good people NOT to get booted, I'll vote for them 10 or 20 times at least. Of course, I'm no match for the jackoffs that are voting for Sanjaya 200 times a night.
I hope that it eventually evens out, like it did with John Stevens (redhead teenager from another season.) VFTW did a good job at keeping him in for a while, but eventually everyone's votes for the good people make up for it. For example, the people who were voting for the contestants that have left (Chris S., Gina) are most likely NOT throwing their votes at Sanjaya, they're voting for others. The smaller the group gets, the more focussed the votes get. Did that just make any sense at all?

I don't think singing screechy and hitting glory notes makes you a great singer. I find it terribly annoying. I want a story told and I want to be moved by a singer's voice. It doesn't have to be big and bold and brash and loud.
Which is why Haley, BatBoy, Chris R and Jordan need to go asap. Nothing special on stage with them.

it is not enough to hit the big high notes....You have to TELL THE DAMN STORY TOO! That is why I cannot stand Lakisha. Has anyone else noticed that she NEVER takes the advice of the special guest???? That to me seems oddly arrogant for someone in her position...as if she knows what is best.
I'm sorry...she is no Fantasia or Jennifer Hudson. dead behind the eyes.
Jordin for the win...

I'm not really much of a fan but I thought Jennifer Lopez looked gorgeous.
The song and performance weren't half bad either but those dumb S&M wanna be dancers were annoying as hell.
I loved Jennifer's whole look,though -- make-up, jewelry and outfit were smokin'.

Funny you say that as I thought her performance reminded me of Stevie Nicks performing, say circa HBO White-Winged Dove show. The movement, the stance at the microphone, the intensity. I'm no JLo fan, but she was smokin' last night.

Yes. I think you're right that Sanjaya will eventually go. Probably not next week, and maybe not even the week after that. Phil will be next, and after that, Chris. My thought on Sanjaya is at least he is more entertaining than John Stevens and the other horrible ones that VFTW has had a hand at keeping around.

I too enjoyed JLo's performance last night, and I have never been a fan. I liked how she mirrored some of her dancers moves (when it made sense) without trying to jump all over the stage while she was singing. She was subdued and intense at the same time. And the wind machine/hair/outfit combination was very effective. :)

Wow, that's pretty sad. Hate is such a strong word. I have some Idols that I dislike but "hate"? Nah, they just won't get my vote is all. I find Haley to be one of the must humble and genuine AI contestants ever. She happens to be beautiful which (as obviously seen here) can work against you.

Humble? I don't get that from her. I don't think she's a diva either, but humble she ain't. Remember her audition, telling them she decided to wear a "hoochie" outfit? She's pretty, she has a good body, and she know that & knows how to use it to her advantage. Smart cookie, that one. She knew she'd never win, so she tried to stay so she could make a good chunk of change from the tour.

I use hate to mean "strongly dislike" here. I'm not sure I see why it's sad to feel that way? Certainly it wasn't something I lost sleep over or did anything about except post here and discuss it with my coworkers who also watch. I'm sure many people strongly dislike contestants...Sanjaya, for example.
I think my main issue with Haley (other than that I didn't like her style of singing) was that what she was doing--her minimal clothing strategy--made me embarrassed for her. She put so much focus on her body that it demeaned her.
Humble? I don't get that from her. I don't think she's a diva either, but humble she ain't. Remember her audition, telling them she decided to wear a "hoochie" outfit? Yeah, I'm not sure either where humble comes in. And she WAS smart--to a degree. If she had been smarter, she would have used her legs(and other assets) in a less obvious, less crass way. Ultimately, it got her into trouble because she went too far over the top with that last performance. She put her hotpants and halter top and her strutting/dancing above her vocals. She pushed it all too hard because she knew it was her only chance. Hence my earlier comments that she appeared desperate.
I have no problem with beautiful women using their looks to their advantage. As women, our looks are sometimes vital tools in getting what we want professionally, personally, whatever. But, we are cheapened when we it becomes just about our appearance--which is I think what happened, whether it was Haley's intention or not. I wonder if she, now most recognizable as the one with the legs, will look back on this and say, "But I can sing too!"

So cool...Simon gives American Idol title to Jordin Sparks so far.
Simon is also an idiot.
---
For the recap.
Bat Boy - Better than usual, but still freaky and unerving to watch.
Jordin - I have discovered a new insomnia drug. I dozed right off when she started and woke on her screech at the end. Course the judges lala at her. She was pitchy. Not a word was spoken about that. Pass and I was glad when the commercial started after her.
Sanjaya/Aladdin - He was his perfect worse. Just stunning. Go Sanjaya!
Chris R - Not only is he slightly inbred, but takes the crown for biggest idiot ever. What was that crap about singing nasaly on purpose. What an id. He needs to go this week. Just trash.
LaKisha - I got goosebumps. I don't give a **** what the judges said. They're useless anyway. That's right dawg.
Melinda - This one is a true performer. Nothing ****ty to say.
Blake - Also, not bad at all. He looked a little silly wailing out the "bluuuuuee" word, but I enjoyed it and a good closer for this pretty crappy episode.
Next week...ABBA...?

Hayley was on Access Hollywood the other day. I wasn't paying that much attention, just remember hearing her saying something about Nair and how she guessed her short shorts did work. Afer reading this thread I googled it and come up with this:
Who Wears Short Shorts: Is Idol's Haley the Next Nair Girl?
Posted by Laura Saltman April 13 at 04:20 PM | Comments (1)
Well guys, the TV stuff is fun but I think I have a new career in my future... Marketing Guru or maybe Talent Manager. Now, I'm not a big phone person. I hate talking on it and I hate having to call people up and ask for things. It's why my career as a talent booker was short lived. When I'm passionate about something though, I put my phone phobias aside.
After, I hung up the phone from yesterday's conference call (where fortunately it’s mostly listening not talking!) with AMERICAN IDOL'S latest casualty, Haley Scarnato, I started thinking about headlines for my story. I needed something that had to do with legs. I couldn't get that famous commercial jingle out of my head, "Who wears short shorts? If you dare wear short shorts Nair for short shorts."
A light bulb came on in my head. I wondered if the company who makes Nair had thought about bringing on Haley as a spokesperson, considering how much attention her legs and shorts got on the show. So, I played investigator and tracked down a phone number for the company, Church & Dwight. I spoke with a lovely assistant telling her that I would like to speak to someone in publicity. I was pretty certain my call would not be returned. However, minutes later I get a call from someone in the marketing department, Dan Bracken. He tells me that no, it’s not something they had thought of but it's certainly interesting. Although, Nair is about to launch a brand new campaign so the timing is not good. He says he is going to talk it over, however, with the Brand Team and get back to me.
Later, I spoke to Vice President of Marketing, Women’s Health Business, Stacey Feldman and she had a great answer for me, "She certainly answered the question ‘who wears short shorts?’. And, like millions of Americans, we were captivated by her talent and spirit. And if Haley was interested in working with Nair, we would love to hear how she would like to work with us."
So, this morning armed with my quote from Stacey, I spoke to Haley. I think I offended her when I mentioned that on yesterday's conference call she didn't seem thrilled by the reporters harping about her legs, '' Well there was one question that was pretty intense but I was wearing shorts you know and that's like the whole deal. It was a costume it was fun. I was classified as a cabaret singer who was never going to get noticed so me and Art (the show's stylist) were like what am I going to do? So, he was like lets go trendy. What is everybody tending to wear right now, which is shorts. So, we did shorts with pumps and a shirt and it worked so we just kind of kept doing the trendier thing and got trendier dresses and stuff like that until I guess it just went over."
I grilled her a bit on whether it was a conscious decision to get votes to keep showing off the legs, "Well not necessarily help me get votes because I was getting votes before. I had never really gotten any great comments from Simon. So, when you get a great comment from Simon you might want to stick with it.
Unfortunately, the plan backfired on her, "Well, I figured something was going to backfire with Simon."
That's when I hit her with the good news that Nair may be interested in working with her, She was genuinely thrilled, "I would love to work with Nair, that would be amazing. So I guess the shorts did work!"
She would love to do a commercial for them but with one stipulation, "That would be awesome as long as I can still have the makeup because that's the only reason my legs looked the way they did because that makeup was genius. It’s like a bronzer. It's like the illusion of skinnier legs."
So, Nair the ball is in your court. Personally, I think it would be a great marriage. Of course, I’ll expect my ten percent when the deal goes down!

Well, Jordin was the only one whose line was busy last night when I tried to vote. I couldn't bring myself to vote even once for Sanjaya or Chris, even to test if they were getting votes or not, so I'm not sure about their prospects.
I think Chris was absolutely serious about singing "nasal-y" on purpose. I can't believe that would be the case, but he's not smart enough to show a sense of humor or laugh at himself. Did you see Simon roll his eyes when Chris said his heart goes out to the people affected by the VA Tech shootings? I wonder whose idea it was for Simon to add his condolences then at the end. Must have been a producer who saw the reaction caught on camera and didn't want people to think he's totally heartless.
I didn't hate Phil as much as I usually do. I'm worried for Lakeesha. She may be the next casualty of all this Sanjaya love. I voted for her a zillion times. It's not her time to go yet.

Yeah, cuz Sheryl's not commercial at all. Soak Up The Sun was artistic genius. I know what she means, but come on. It's a fun show, and the winner has a chance at an actual music career. And for the most part - these people can really sing! No, they don't write their songs, but neither did the Dixie Chicks until their last album. Neither does Martina McBride. Neither do many other artists - that doesn't mean they aren't artists, or that they have no talent.

I couldn't believe she said that. This is the woman who has sold her songs to corporate America for all kinds of things. If Sheryl isn't commercial then who the hell is? Don't get me wrong, I like her. But for her to say such a thing is the epitome of hypocritical.

This goes to show that VFTW has no power in the voting. Their past "picks" prove that, as well. They may try to take all the glory, but in reality, their votes mean nothing.
I can't wait to see Sanjaya on the cover of The Advocate in a few years.

Idol just lost its edge last night. Now it's no fun. What the hell was LaKisha doing standing next to Aladdin? It should have been Chris R or Bat Boy. Stupid hormonal pre-teen and teens.
Anyway, VoteForTheWorst is gearing up to go with their second pick for voting for the worst. They have a poll right now and Phil/Bat Boy is leading. Inching ahead of Chris R and LaKisha. They have not officially announced who their going with.

I don;t agree. VFTW kept Sanjaya their longer than he should and upset other favs. There's no doubt it had an impact.
I also think AI is rigged. Taylor Hicks?? I think he sold a total of 12 copies of his album.

Could there be a worse song than Do I Make You Proud?

This is the reason the site isn't working. Every year they have to pick another contestant to try to make it to the top because their first pick doesn't make it that far. Their first pick was Antonella this year, and she didn't make it past the semis. Then they moved to Sanyaya. By then, he already had his fanbase (teeny boppers).....but they take the credit.

Jaz,
I love the new avatar pic..I have never seen that one. What is it from?
What is the deal w/ the sig pic??:xoxo:
it's from the recent Ahmet Ertegun tribute show. as for your sig pic, like I said, I didn't know you were linking from my photobucket so when I deleted it, it went away. I'll have to either send you the pic or reupload to give you the link to put back in your sig. lemme know.
Okay..What was up with Fergie and the Lip Synching???
It looked like she was anyway....
yeah. I think she lipsynched the chorus especially.
Martina was amazing. Her outfit was not. Hated those short pants. And I'm so glad Sanjaya's gone. :D BTW - wtf was Fergie doing there? Nice touch for her to lip sync on show that looks for the best singer.
I actually thought her outfit was cute. but that's just me. Fergie is a crackwhore. she needs to act her age a little more.
I can't wait to see Sanjaya on the cover of The Advocate in a few years.
I know. I heard a joke that in 2 years Sanjaya will have his own show on Disney with a big recording career while Blake poses for Falcon videos as a bottom.

This show is being so self-important with the "Idol Gives Back" thing. Oh, who am I kidding....they're always self-important (And I always watch.)
I missed Melinda and Timberfake, but Timberfake's clip during the recap sounded awful. I wasn't overly impressed with anyone tonight (perhaps Melinda had I seen her). The judges overpraised Jordin's performance. She screeched her way through that song.
