we've had a couple of poetry threads before, but damn it, I can't find them. anyway, if you have some favorite poems that you've written or by other authors, share!
here's the last one I wrote. see, jazzy isn't always nelly fabulosity without any substance.
desaturation
(12/29/06)
I don't remember when I first saw the spectrum
but I remember the way my eyes burned when I realized
there were hazy places I could go
fishtails spinning into the blackest browns
pinkish whites never worried of
absence of color or sanity
words and phrases my mind released as new colors
flooded my senses
swirls were morphine on my tongue
and I don't remember when the message came
it said you had seen the destruction of reds
(will you please just take this pill?)
[she refuses laughter these days]
they wondered where they had gone wrong
others said you had it coming and I learned
shades of violet splatter
I walked downtown, looking at my reflection
in store windows
windows full of frills for bachelorettes
and poppy people I will never be
sensory overload as the streams flowed in
and out
in
and out
still, beauty queens expose themselves
on palettes of seafoam and cornflower
I ran to the bus barn behind the school
hiding my hands - languid - there I closed my eyes
electromagnetic radiation was my name
(please make me colorblind)
[will this break me well and clean?]
and to this day
I still wish to lose lavendar
