I love that we all share stuff here on The Ledge, but what's your limit? Nothing really offends me, but sometimes I read something & say "Whoa! Too Much Information!" I really don't need to know everything about everyone, know what I mean? Of course, one person's limits will be completely different than others'. I don't care if we talk about menstrual periods, but Homer or Curtis might. Some people probably hate the "what are you eating" thread because they don't give a sh*t what we're eating. Maybe you hate the picture thread because you're tired of looking at all of us. I know, if you don't like it, then don't read it. But. Where do you draw the line?

I don't need to know anyone's last name here. There's no need for it, unless I'm sending you a bootleg CD or something in the mail. Same thing with specific address. I worry that when people share too much personal info over the net, they can be victimized.

I don't need to know what medications you take. Of course, I say this after I started the "vitamin/supplements" thread. Sharing health tips is one thing, but I dont need to know about your antipsychotics or laxatives, thanks. Same with illnesses - one mention or question is enough, maybe someone can help and/or sympathise with you. But repeated mention of disease, esp. a gynecological issue or STD, is a bit much. On second thought, it could be interesting. Maybe I'll start a "What STD's Have You Had" thread!

Sex. We all joke around, we all flirt. But I really, truly don't want to know if you just had sex 5 minutes ago on your keyboard & now you can't find the Enter key, or if you were just giving a blow job & gagged. Posting naughty hints about what you've done, or would/wouldn't do is one thing - posting specifics about you & your partner(s) is another. I don't know how to explain it really. Like, I loved the "Perv" thread - it was gross & hilarious & educational, quite frankly. But sometimes you read something that's too recent, too personal. I dunno. Anyway....

yeah, my limits are similar to yours. it's one thing if you start talking to someone outside of a forum atmosphere and you slowly learn things about each other - but it's another thing completely to foist your personal info upon others. it puts people in a weird situation.

I draw the line at gross bodily functions. I'm not disgusted by much, but taking the time to type it out and post it here...that ain't right.

Other then that I'm pretty much open to reading about anything on here. I agree that a certain degree of anonymity should be kept (no last names, etc) because you never know who is reading what you say. Hell, even I'd be tempted to steal some credit card numbers and book a suite at Bellagio for a certain week in March. (Kidding of course :wavey: ) Imagine what the REAL criminals would do with your personal info!

Wait. No. I don't mean to say I think it should be monitored or censored - if you're not breaking the rules, post what you want. :sorry: I just wanted people's opinions about what's too much for them personally.

BTW - I'm drunk right now, my husband's grandmother's dying from cancer, I'll be getting my period in about 10 days, and they say a big storm's coming our way. Just so everyone knows. :D

I don't really have limits. I mean, there are times when people post things that I don't really want to know, but when I come across them I just sort of mumble "Whatever, dude, I really don't care" to myself and move on to the next post. I don't really see a need for people to censor themselves as long as no rules are broken.

Do you mumble it out loud? Because sometimes I do. Maybe I'm wording it incorrectly, I don't want people to feel that they have to "censor" themselves here. It's just that everyone's opinion of what is socially acceptable is different, and everything's changed with the internet. I mean, I would never dream of telling an acquaintance my medication regimen, but others love to share. Is it that they seek attention, or I'm too rigid in my medical confidentiality?

I don't care if we talk about menstrual periods, but Homer or Curtis might. Some people probably hate the "what are you eating" thread because they don't give a sh*t what we're eating.

I read this wrong, the first time, because I made ONE menstrual joke(quite some time ago), and I thought "I" was being pigeonholed(make your own joke, here).

I'm 100% anti-censorship, but NO, I don't want to hear about "I just had sex", or advice on giving blowjobs. The only thing that I thought WAS getting out of hand, was too many Chit Chat things in the other forums. It doesn't bother me(hardly at all), BUT, I'd noticed that a few regular Ledgies, have almost quit posting(and these are people who rarely post in Chit Chat). I can only ASSume that they don't care for all the chit chat, in the MUSIC forums. And I hate to see them leave, and hope that I'm wrong, that all the chit chat in "their" forums, hasn't run them off. I DO think that chit chat belongs IN Chit Chat, though. Does Bop belong in Pre-Rumours? Probably not.:sorry:

The "what are you eating" thread? If that doesn't SCREAM, "don't read me, unless you have no life!", I don't know what does! BTW, I love that thread!:woohoo:

Of course. And often I use, er, different words. You know, like "Dude, I really don't give a ****" or, alternately, "You're an idiot" depending on what's being said. But the ultimate outcome is the same: I just move on to the next post.

...

Well personally I have shared here what antidepressants I take, in the past, because there's such a stigma about the disease and taking meds for it. So many people just try to buck up and take it. I did that for about 10 years and it is VERY hard to treat depression that you've had for that long. So, in the interest that I could possibly help someone avoid that, I have shared that information. So no, it wasn't for attention. Although sometimes I probably do post for attention.

I don't know that I have a TMI limit. I'm trying to think of something, and i'm coming up blank. Must be all those years as a bartender (and now as a counseling intern)! I think it would be better for you to simply say something to the person you feel crossed a line rather than a general statement that well might either offend or inhibit people you likely never had in mind. I'm a little offended at someone lumping a mention about somebody they care for fighting or dying of cancer in with other more trivial annoyances. That's neither funny or annoying that someone mentions that is it? I would hope not.

Honestly I tend to skip when people share TMI, not much because I'm bothered by those posts but more because they're usually tedious (especially the perv thread... quite uninspiring really) and because the sense of closeness on internet is fake and I don't think it's my business to know so much about the personal life of someone I basically don't know.

speaking of tmi

the frenum (well..there are several, but i'm talking about the one on the tongue for this story) is the little piece of tisse UNDER it that connects to the floor of your mouth. If you raise your tongue to the roof of your mouth you can see it.

a girl told me yesterday she needed to get it clipped because when she gave a .........(tmitmitmitmi)....it felt like it was tearing

she didn't say it exactly like that. I had to figure it out because she was embarrassed. but still. damn.

Hello, my twin!:wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

I do the same thing.
And what is this antiquated OBSESSION with shaking hands? Folks, it's the cold and flu season. PLEASE, keep your cold and flu germs, and fecal matter, to yourself!!!

When a band first walks in the room, when I'm doing sound, I've taken to FILLING my hands with cables or something, so I don't have to be a contestant in the germ parade.:o

There is one person in our office who never covers her mouth when coughing. So this flu season the corp decides to put out signage/flyers reminding everyone of cold/flu season...cover your mouth, wash your hands, etc. One of the tri-fold signs they issued to my area I put on her desk and then I copied the flyer I received and put about three in her in-basket.

yesterday, we were having a "working lunch" and the girl next to me took a bit of food and then coughed without covering her mouth. projectile came near my food. she didn't apologize, acknowledge it or anything. I looked at her, slid myself down the table and chunked my lunch.

as Stephanie Tanner would say "HOW RUDE!"

I would have had to say something. "Unless you want to buy me another lunch from now on, I suggest you cover your mouth when you cough to prevent your food from landing on my food."

It's shocking to me. My job is awful. People cough & sneeze & hack all over the place. There are tissues & hand sanitizer all over the office, yet most don't use it. Gross.

The gym is the worst for germs. Staff is so easily transmitted in a locker room setting and even in the gym. That is why almost all gyms have bottles of disinfectant all around and paper towels. People need to wipe the equipment before and after they use it. yet, 99.9% do not. My gym has Purell dispensers on the walls and I use it everytime I am done on an exercise I used my hands with.
