Ok this is all in fun, let's get that out of the way. SO which one has the most toothless, Overall wearin', brother's cousins mother type of folks? Have fun! I voted for Mississippi cause when I was on the road seeing Stevie in 2005, I pulled into this gas station along I-10 and these gun totin guys in their monster Chevy truck pulled up behind me, adn I could hear them talking about my = sticker and Rainbow triangle stickers on my bumper. I went in and paid for my gas and got the hell outts there before I turned into something from Deliverance.

I saw Fleetwood Mac there in 2003. I have to agree. I couldn't wait to get out of that place! I had a few strange cab drivers.

The arena where they played is right across the street from where I went to high school. :D

Kansas isn't even on the list? Anyone remember when they recently wanted to teach creationism only in their schools? Also the home of Fred Phelps and his congregation.

I refuse to bag on people from the south. It's not their fault.

I love the south and its people, and miss living there a lot. You can have New Jersey and New York City, I cannot wait to move back down south.
Backward is relative, in my book. I don't know that it's not MORE backward to rat-race yourself to an early grave like peeps here in Northeast Jersey and NYC seem to do. And in that process, heartlessly run over any other human being one comes accross.
Brrrr.
To me, those things and many others I notice here, are more backwards than standing still and smelling the roses like people in the south tend to do MUCH more of. I don't care if they are not the most progressive, or the biggest go getters or trendsetters...
And to me it's sad that a slower pace often gets equated with low intelligence. And that different customs are viewed as backwardsness....
Tolerance, people. And no generalizing!
I personally cannot think of ONE state in this country that could not benefit from overhauling in SOME areas.
The sweetest, most caring, most humane people I know, I met in the Southern United States. Regardless of color, too.

Tolerance - actually the lack thereof is a big reason why I'm not a fan of the south or of many of the people from that area of the country. Not to say that ALL southerners are intolerant of different cultures/races/lifestyles (or that all people from the western part of the country are tolerant), but there does seem to be a distinct difference.
Also, the southerners I've met are just entirely too friendly. I'm a Californian; we're rude, self-centered, and keep to our own business. We don't like to chat it up with strangers.

i just had 15 people in my house from michigan for a baby shower i was throwing (god i'm glad it's over lol) and after 2 hours-they all want to live here. I love the south and the feeling of knowing your neighbors (erm..business lol) and talking to complete strangers. Its not AS common here, but that's why i loved savannah and the people there. I could have stayed and been friends with all of them:nod:i've never met a stranger lol

I'm from the south, and have always hated it. It has nothing to do with rat races, or being a go-getter (which I most certainly am not).
The south is not kind to people like me. If I had stayed in Louisiana, I would've had to live permanently in the closet and constantly be on guard around the majority of people. I also would not be able to be open about my religious practice. The place where I live now is quite a bit better, but I think I might be even happier in a place like New York...there are places around here where I would still be viewed as some kind of freak.
The last six months I lived in Louisiana were the worst of my whole life. I was severely depressed because I couldn't be myself. If I'd stayed another six months, I wouldn't be typing this right now...I believe I would've killed myself. So, you're welcome to the south if you want it. To me, it was one of the most soul-killing places/cultures I could ever experience.

Um, no thank you. :sorry:
'Sides, if I ever were to move to the South, it'd have to be Tennessee, somewhere near Nashville, since many of my favorite musicians live and play in that area. But I don't think I ever could do that - just the thought of possibly getting stuck in a tornado scares the crap out of me. I'll take California's earthquakes over that any day.

Oh yeah, and I want to know something, how come California didn't make the list?
I mean, we voted a crappy, no talent, all-braun-and-no-brains Rupublican action movie star who goes around in his Humvee and calls the Democrats "girlie men" to run our state. How backwards and looney can you get?
(Just the for record, by "we" I mean "they," because I sure as hell didn't vote for the bastard.)

Dude, come into the here & now -- I haven't hit on Curtis in two years!
Where I live in Pennsylvania... I suppose because we're so close to the border... it's common to make wisecracks about West Virginia. (For example... Q: Why do they call it toothpaste instead of teethpaste? A: Because it was invented in West Virginia!)

We don't have the level of intolerance and prejudice often associated with Southerners (though not to say that we're the most progressive place one could live), but the people around here are still warm and friendly like Southerners often are.
I know the names of every single person who lives on my block, and we look out for one another (checking on elderly neighbors if we haven't seen or heard from them for a couple of days, picking up a neighbor's mail and newspaper for them while they're away, and so on).
I like it that way.

Me too. No thank you!
The ENTIRE reason I left the small town that I grew up in, was: Everybody knew everybody's business. You knew every cop on a first name basis(and not from experience!) There was basically ZERO privacy. No fukcing thanks! I prefer complete, and total, anonymity.
I'm planning an extended trip to Nashvegas next week. I was just going for two days, but then found out that my favorite band is playing, two nights after I was planning on leaving(and they're playing two nights in a row), so, I'm taking a couple extra days off, and have a Hillbilly music, PBR swillin', drunken fiasco of a time.:blob1: :blob1: :blob1:

Although I can't say that I know all that much about all the governers of those states as one of the 'special interests 'whose butt Arnie vowed to kick I'm still not a big fan of his..I am anxious to see how the universal health care coverage works out though..if he can pull it off props to him.

Hope you have a great time!!
Sadly, I won't be back out there for at least a few more months. I'm broke from the holidays and the thought of flying in this freezing ass weather just isn't working in my favor. Maybe I'll do it in May as a birthday present to myself, again.

Oh, I'm broke, too. But, it's only a 4 hour drive for me. I try to go, anytime I get a full weekend off(usually about 5 weekends a year). But, now that Cash is gone, I'll be able to go in the summer, too.....so I'm going for the Nashvegas record this year! Someday, I'll probably live there. I love that town.
I REALLY can't afford to stay for 6 nights(so I'll be looking for the cheapest Fleabag motel out there!), but I NEED to see my favorite country band. Their future is tentative, at best, as Blob Dylan stole their showstopping instrumentalist guy(but he's off for a couple weeks, that's why they're playing two shows).

Yeah, it's like a five hour flight for me, not including the layover. And a whole lotta dough that I just don't have.
Oh well, I don't know of any gigs going on over there that I'm dying to see at the moment anyway. So which band is this that you're going to see?

BR5-49.
It's country meets rockabilly. Their height of popularity was when swing dancing was huge, about 7-8 years ago. They've got 6-7 CDs out.
And it's no "cry in your beer" type of music either. It's foot stompin', beer drinking, sing along music. I love it!
PS- I'd love it if Bob Welch, or Billy, or Rick were playing. Rick was playing one time that I was there, and I didn't go, because I already had plans. I'm still kicking myself in the ass for that one!

I may have to check them out.
I'm really hoping to be able to catch a Billy show, but I never know when he's playing a gig until either there's not enough time to book a trip, or the show's already happened. I'd love to be able to see Bob Welch or Rick Vito as well, but I NEVER know when they're playing.

well. I know where my vote must go. It's a difficult decision-voting for your homestate  but after last night-I knew it couldn't be any other way.
I went to see my bro play last night. The town was about 45 minutes away. It was pretty....bad. not them-they were great! and my brother was good!!! He was all grown up and of course I think I cried a few times. (just a few  )
THEN...god then-I decided to go to the bathroom
the girl with pink hair, and a little strapless shirt with a black bra-it looked like some-dominatrix bra-leather...rhinestones....etc...that crisscrossed in the front AND back was talking to the other girl. Pink hair is girl 1. Other girl-girl 2.
I'm in the stall trying to mind my own business but have my ear up to the wall to get all the good gossip.
Girl 2 "he's a WHORE!!!"
girl1 "who?!"
girl 2 "my baby daddy" (please people..i'm not making this up..I wish I were)
girl 1 "who is that?"
girl 2 "the guy at the door taking cover charges and checking id's. He said it wasn't his baby, and that he wanted a MAternity test. I brought him up here one time...and he said 'I ain't that baby's daddy...he look more like you than me"
girl1 "how many times has he seen him??"
girl 2 "twice. He had me locked up when I was four months pregnant"
(by this time I'm washing my hands. It's like a train wreck-you can't look away. So I would be looking at my hands, then find myself drifting up looking at them and then back down at my hands  )
girl 2 "His new girlfriend looks like mr. ed...you know..the talking horse"
good god. The only thing I could think about was that she has a two month old and she's at a bar. AND the fact that she brought him up there one night. Anyone see sweet home alabama?? "you have a baby....in a bar"
my vote goes to kentucky :o
