Well Los Angeles getting Mr Beckham - how do you feel?
David Beckham will be joining LA Galaxy at the end of the European season and he's getting paid pot loads of cash to do so. Nice work if you can get it.
Seriously I think it's a good move for him. He's played for two of the top clubs in the world (Manchester United and Real Madrid) and it would be difficult for him to find another club of the same stature. So why not?

I have to admit I was a little shocked with this news. Though I personally think he's cooked and done with I would never have guessed he'd join an American team. It's almost unheard of. I guess the money offer beats what he would getting sitting on the bench for any other big European club.
Plus, Hollywood is in LA, which I suspect he's more interested in now than actually playing football.

Does he realize that most people in the U.S. don't care about pro soccer? Really, they don't. Shame, because I think it's an awesome sport. But we don't care nearly as much as you kids across the pond (that's how you say it, I think.) So I hope he's not expecting to be cheered on by thousands of screaming fans every game.
Of course, he'll probably go into The Biz soon.

I think he knows what he's getting into.
On our tv today it said he would be the highest paid sportsmen in a team sport in the US so I expect that will ease his pain at the small crowds

That's why it's so ludicrous. Nobody is going to care about his performance on your side of the pond. It's all about location, location, location. They are going for the Hollywood tans.

Quite possibly
He's obviously given up on ever playing for England again so whether anyone notices his performances is probably irrelevant to him

I actually feel sick at this news. I've been a fan of Beckham's for more than a decade now. My aunt lives in Manchester and I went to several United games when he was on the team. To see him go to the piss-poor MLS is disgusting. Even if you believe he isn't the footballing talent he once was, to say he's only good enough for the US or the bench is asinine. IMO, he can still play at the highest level. If it weren't for him England wouldn't have even gotten out of the round of 16 in the WC.
From Old Trafford to the Bernabeu to the..... 'Home Depot Center'. I'm blaming Poshbot for this. :p

He's 31. There's players that have a few years on him that play for the better clubs in the world. Even though I loathe the MLS, he still should have waited a few years to have gone there. The US is a place to go if you have nothing better and your legs are shot.
On a side note, I heard Real Madrid is getting rid of Ronaldo as well. Rumour is he'll end up on the New York Red Bulls.

I don't think so. He still wants to play for England very much, but with that asshat McClaren running things it won't happen.
David Beckham is still dreaming of adding to his 94 England caps before he decides to bow out of football.
The Real Madrid midfielder has been cast into the international wilderness ever since the appointment of Steve McClaren following the World Cup finals, with his last appearance coming in the quarter-final defeat to Portugal in July.
It was an inglorious exit for a player who captained his country on 58 occasions and even some mixed form for the senior team under McClaren has not paved the way for his return.
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is now preferred on the right side of midfield, but the man who almost single-handedly clawed England to the 2002 World Cup finals with his performance in a qualifier against Greece has not given up hope of a final swansong in English colours.
"For me, it has been the most important honour of my career to represent my country," Beckham said in an interview with Futbolista.
"I love wearing the England shirt, and I hope that in the future it will happen again."
Beckham's hopes of an England recall have been further diminished by the emergence of Aaron Lennon in the past 12 months, while he also faces a daunting task in trying to win a regular first team place under Fabio Capello at present.

He wasn't great during the World Cup, but England as a team were the ones that laid an egg (as usual). Beckham scored the winning goal against Ecuador, and created many scoring chances for his teammates. IMO, Frank Lampard was the biggest joke for them in the WC.

I figured it had to do with Skeletor and her wanting to became an actress. I know there were several teams in the EPL that were interested in him as well as Inter Milan. Hell, I would rather he play for one of the lower levels in England or even Scotland than the freakin' Galaxy. Their kits are just awful. :p

If he'd come back to England, who would he have played for? Most likely Bolton, Spurs, Newcastle or someone like that. The top 4 clubs wouldn't have been interested. He'd have been playing in the UEFA Cup or something. He would never have put up with that. We'd have had him at Leyton Orient, but I guess the £100 million might have been a sticking point :(
As a player he's fairly one-dimensional - phenomenal crosser and free-kick wizard sure, but once he lost the pace to run past people - and he has lost that pace - he became a bit of a one-trick pony, which is why Real don't need him any more  He could do a job in the States, particularly for his sponsors

Sure the paypacket is huge but I think in some ways it's an act of desperation.
England and Real Madrid have dumped him and I bet he's privately gutted. So his PR people hit back with huge headlines about he'll earn gazillions to make sponsors and the public think he's still a force to be reckoned with in football and somehow this is what he wanted, blah, blah.
I doubt this is how he wanted his career to end. He's sportsman. I'm sure he would much rather play for England again and be remembered as a footballer than as a brand which is all he will be now.
He hasn't a hope in hell in Hollywood. He looks good but he sounds like a gerbil when he opens his mouth. As for Sticktoria, she has even less a chance of succeeding in tinselttown than him. They'll attend a few parties, get photographed a lot, talk about exciting Hollywood projects that will never materialize and, er, that's about it really.

Becks may be a one trick pony, but what's going on at Real Madrid is laughable. They spend money like a drunken sailor and still have nothing to show for it. Some of the biggest names in football ended up in Madrid- Zidane, Ronaldo, Figo, van Nistelrooy, Cannavaro, etc, and they haven't done much better than Beckham did. I detest Baraclona, but hope they dominate La Liga now.

Yeah - Madrid are looking a bit desperate. They seem to collect big names without worrying about where they're going to fit in. They need to start all over again, which I think is what they may do. I can't stand Barcelona either - give me Rayo Vallecano or Salamanca... raw passion must be accompanied by a lack of talent to provide true entertainment :D At least that's what I always told myself

I prefer Rugby and/or Australian Rules Football over soccer (Hockey especially!!!)...Nuthin' like seeing someone get their neck snapped or head drilled into the ground, Almost as good as hockey fights.
Soccer never have or will have an interest to me...Tried it as a kid and was bored instantly.
Hell, Curling is more entertaining to me than soccer (And that is not a slight against curling, I love watching it during the Winter Olympics over lameass skiing...And it's fun to play too!)

So think Beckham sees this as his retirement, and rightfully so.
I think he's certainly lost his focus and drive and ambition over the past years, even if you argue that he can still move.
What bugs me is how this world can shell out such obscene amounts of money to a person that is not really contributing anything valuable to the world's need and continuation, and that research programs, cancer programs, SCHOOL programs, have to hold freaking bakesales and scrounge up all kinds of charity donations to keep going.
That alone is enough to make this whole thing sick as well as , what's the word I am looking for, bizarre, and surreal I guess, to me.
Sorry if that offends, but hey, that's just socialistic me.

If he had performed well with Real Madrid, h would have been able to choose topteams. Nobody's waiting for an underperforming superstar that strikes up slews of millions-it's sickening-, and I think if he had made another choice, like AC Milan, Or Barcelona, he'd still have a real sports-drive.
But In Real Madrid, they don't train a team, they just buy buy buy without another vision than an economic one. David won ZILTCH with Real Madrid in the years he played there.
Fact is, that I'm sick of this development in football. Beckham, isn't a sportsman anymore. It's a brand.
...and my big friend ruud van nistelrooij is throwing away his credits there too. I hope he will go to Sevilla or Valencia or some sort of REAL footballclub soon.

I totally agree with you. It is crazy the amount of money that is shelled out to celebs and to sports figures among others I don't believe really need all of the money they are given.
At least people like Oprah and others (Brad and Angie) are doing more than shopping, shopping, shopping which I assume the Beckhams will be doing.

I think he could have gone to AC Milan - they would have had him.
I think he is still a good player but he is definately not a central midfielder. Wide on the right he is good.
The last few England internationals without him one of our main weaknesses was was we couldn't cross a decent ball and had no one who could take a good free kick.
David won bugger all with Real Madrid because as you rightly say they thought they could just buy up all the best players in the world stick them on the pitch and wait for the trophies to arrive. No real team work.
The money he is being paid though is obscene.
Mind you the money some of our Premier League players get is disgusting.
