Starting January 31st on Bravo.

Thanks to Carrie for correcting me on the name of the show. I'm excited for this Runway distraction. Bravo reality shows seem to be done in good taste, so I'm hoping to see some cool designs. Preferably designs that I can rip off and use for my own place.

Anyone else going to be watching?

Ilan! :blob2: :blob1: Marcel was so pissed and bitter...love it.

Anyway, Top Design was pretty good. There's a whole lotta gay on that show. Even moreso then Runway, but it's Bravo...they love the gay! I was surprised that each pair got a $50,000 budget for their room. Plus they get carpenters and seamstresses. (Those poor fashion designers on PR got leaves, string and 75 cents to make an outfit.) Hopefully the contestants on this show won't get a break all of the time.

I'll let you catch the reruns so we can discuss.

ilan won? i'm surprised. i thought it was going to be hunky sam. i saw marcel on the view this morning - i like marcel. :o i didn't get the intense hate that so many had for him.

I'll let you catch the reruns so we can discuss. $50,000!!!! That is a hellalot money especially if it is one room - is it one room? I was watching some of the repeats on TopChef and I am surprised that Ilan made it to the end as a winner considering through the competition there were times when the judges didn't care for his food at all. The more I watched it seems the judges were utilizing the latest submission as a guide to their decision as opposed to the overall submissions over time. I like Ilan...I am just not so sure he was the best.

I will catch up on TD...the best part is that they are gay! :D

Marcel looked like he was going to **** himself when they announced Ilan as the winner. Dude, you can at least attempt a fake "I'm happy for you" face. I don't watch the show regularly, but enough to know I don't like him - like him even less now that he blamed all the problems he had with the last meal on his sous chefs & didn't give credit to the guy for creating an entire dish until the very end. Classy.

Missed TD, fell asleep, but will def catch the reruns. "Whole lotta gay in that show." I love Mikeschmike.

Oh - I did catch the very beginning - Mike, please tell me that Oldham didn't speak that akwardly animated fake way the entire show. Please.

Yeah, Marcel and his pisspants attitude...and he wonders why he lost? He needs to get over himself. He also needs to cut his hair so he stops looking like Wolverine from X-Men.

And sorry P, but Oldham is that way through the entire show. It makes me miss Heidi's voice overs, which I thought would never ever happen. Luckily the main judge (gay man...surprised?) does most of the talking and is less involved with the "you're in, you're out" stuff. Todd explained the challenge, and came around and did the Tim Gunn thing. Ooh, that reminds me, I have Tim Gunn news. I'll find the PR3 thread.

Paula, the tuna loves you too!

Top Design is, in true Bravo fashion, being rerun 500 times this week. I think it's on tonight at 8pm, but I can't miss Ghost Whisperer. It's also on at random times late at night, so I'm going to try & Tivo it then & watch when I can.

Now that Top Chef is over, they've moved Top Design to 10/9 central pissy time (thanks Michelle, I will forever say it that way:nod: ). Anyway, hopefully you all won't fall asleep for it. :D

In case you're interested, you can go here (http://www.bravotv.com/Tim_Gunn/index.php) and watch a cool interview with Johnathan Adler and Tim Gunn. It's interesting, precious, and oh so gay.

OK, I watched Top Design. I don't know how long I can deal with Todd Oldham's exaggerated speaking voice. Seriously, it's actually painful to listen to. However, the overabundance of gay catty-ness and Bitchy McBitch judges has me hooked. :D I agreed with them on the group that won as well as the group they sent home.

Todd Oldham's exaggerated speaking voice. Is that how he normally speaks? I have a total dislike for the cheerleader zing he adds onto every third word...if that is not how he normally speaks he should be told it is hardly necessary...we are interested in viewing and don't need the added pep.

Not that I recall. I think I've seen interviews with him & I don't remember his talking like such an asshole. "OK, designers, let's SEE how you DO with this challange, alRIGHT?!?!" Really forced & fake & odd.

you took the words outta my mouth. I lost interest about 30 minutes into the first show and only came back to see who got cut. the second episode didn't pop my coochie either. the only thing really keeping me watching it was Jonathan Adler's quippy comments.

what the hell has happened to Alexis Arquette?! lol. Todd Oldham is annoying, but he seems really nice. and, for some reason, I remembered him looking much better than this. and editor-in-chief homegirl is a biotch and needs La Mer stat. oh, and, Mr. I have a wife and a daughter  I bet he is the first to hook up with one of the male roommates.

I'm underwhelmed with this show. I remember feeling the same way during the first few espisodes of Runway, so maybe all they need is to weed out the losers and get down to the talented ones. Regardless, I have a few comments:

*The guest judge and Michael (the flamiest of the flames) look like they could be brother and sister. They also look like they could eat corn on the cob through a picket fence. Anyway, I predict Michael is gone next week

*The huge testosterone injection made up for SOME of John's shortcomings last week, but it's all excuses with him. I think he deserved to go, and I really didn't like his room.

*Did anyone notice that Goil guy doing a little curtsey (courtsey, curtsie? whatever...) when he was being judged? So lame. And WTF was up with the random stuff on the floor? A big novelty red pepper? Umm...no.

*That short brunette with the glasses who did the jungle room is an early standout to me. Hopefully she makes it pretty far.

*I love the judge who looks like Diane Von Furstenberg's younger sister. Like my girl Nina Garcia, she works at Elle. Being a hardnosed bitch must be a requirement for all Elle applicants?

pop your coochie. teehee.

TO looks very scary. I didn't know he was such a snaggletooth. And his "look at me, I'm a trendy cools design guy" outfits are hideous.

And my gaydar alarm was blaring whith "my wife & kid" guy too. It was saying "HhhhhhoooooooooooooooooMMMMmmmmoooooooooooooo!" :wavey:

Their rooms are not professional looking. The painting is horrid. The fabrics are cheap. Their imaginations are as stiff as Jazzy watching Stevie twirl.

Yeah, for all the money they're given, it's been very bland. I've seen nicer rooms on Trading Spaces. And While You Were Out. And Designed To Sell. And.....

I feel like I'm watching Sesame Street, listening to Todd speak...

I was on the Ledge and 1/2 listening most of the time - did they ever show the kids seeing the rooms?

I know, it's unnerving. Do you think he talks that way in real life? Like, at home?

And the kids all seemed to like the rooms - especially Pirate room kid. ****, I would like that room! A coworker & I were discussing - I hope they actually give the kids the room. Wouldn't that suck? "Hey, I designed this for you. Not for reals, though. You can come & look at it once for the cameras, after that it's all going in the dumpster."

* I hate Michael. I want to hit him in the face. Really hard. "This is the most work I've ever done!" No ****, Mary. I'm shocked.

* I would have liked for John to stay, he would have kept things interesting as far as getting along with no one. Drama.

* Missed Goil's curtsy. I liked the room, but it was hilarious when the judge said "that wasn't a good hiding spot, since there was no door on it." LOL! And stop with the bell peppers - he used one week 1 also, and I'm shocked the judges didn't mention it. Please, don't let it become his signature.

* Cas-something. I like her too. Quirky & fresh without being totally whacked. For now, anyway....

* That judge is pretty much the only reason I'm watching. She is mean. I love her. As I previously posted, I've named her Bitchy McBitch.

I generally agreed with the judges this week, but I would have sent Michael home. Not that John's room screamed "10 year old kid" but Michael's was just so bad. Anyone else literally uncomfortable during the judging process? When they come around room to room? I's like they're making rounds at a hospital or going to a wake. Painful. Nobody looks remotely comfortable or excited - judges included.

Design Star on HGTV was miles better than this. But I'll probably watch it anyway, because that's what I do. I think Goil or that Cas girl will win.

Here's a link to the website, you can read blogs & review the rooms. If anyone cares:
