Do you have it? :D

I try to be patient. I used to have a very short fuse, but I've learned to relax a bit as I've gotten older. Tell myself "it's only a few minutes, relax, there's no emergency, life's too short to be stressed with things out of your control..." But I still have no patience for:

*People driving under the speed limit in the left/fast/passing lane; or people who cut you off in traffic, then proceed to drive really slowly.

*People in the grocery checkout line who take too long by arguing, or asking employees to go back & get something for them that they forgot, when there are lots of people waiting in line behind them.

The other day, a woman raced & beat me to the checkout. I had 3 items, she had about 10. I was calm, then I noticed that she waited until all of her items were scanned & bagged to pull out her shoppers card. AFTER that she decides to write a check, smiles at the cashier & says "I guess I could have had this partially written out before I came." I swear I almost shot her.

I absolutely HATE driving anymore, whereas I used to love it(because traffic always sucks now).

I have none whatsoever. Naturally, my impatience is the worst while driving. The grocery store lines usually don't bother me. My main issue there would be people who don't have good shopping cart etiquette. I wonder if that would be a "driving" thing too?

Anyway, you mean when they don't move over far enough with their cart so you can get yours through? Or when they leave it in the middle of an aisle & walk away?

Damn it, I screwed it up already! I should pay more attention to my post count. As for the carts, the thing that gets me is when I'm behind someone who's shuffling along right down the middle of the aisle. I'm a fast mover, get out of my way!

If a cart is in my way and it happens to be unattended...I move it. Sometimes I give it a really good push too.

i have patience for animals, children, and old people.

i do not have patience for anyone going under the speed limit at any time. and by "speed limit" i mean "9 miles an hour above the speed limit."

i got irrationally angry two days ago when i was in cleveland with my friends because a) i wasn't driving and i'm a complete control freak and b) my friend drives REALLY SLOWLY and doesn't take the "fast" routes. so after sitting in stop-and-go traffic on mayfield road for 30 minutes, we finally get on the freeway, only to get off the freeway 3 EXITS EARLY because she was tired of the freeway. so we sat in stop-and-go traffic for 35 MORE MINUTES instead of being on the freeway for 10 more minutes. god almighty.

oh yeah. I do that too. One time I was at old navy and I turned around and ran into this guys stroller. I felt SO bad and genuinely apologized. He just gave me a dirty look and turned his nose up. I said (loudly) "ooooookaaay!!!"
then later after I paid, his stroller and shopping cart was in my way to get out. so I picked the cart up (If I had been REALLY pissed, I would have done the stroller  j/k ) , moved it and SLAMMED it back down. I thought is (very large) wife was gonna kick my ass. The only person I had with me was my pregnant friend-SHE wouldn't have been any help, so I would have flown solo. But it would have SO been worth it!!

Are any of you on blood pressure medication?

I'm a very cautious driver, so I'm sure most of you would hate me. I never drive more than 5 miles over the speed limit unless it's to keep up with the flow of traffic, I slow down at yellow lights instead of trying to race through them, and I always use my turn signal.

And I generally have no problem waiting behind someone in the checkout line (unless it's just ridiculous)...usually I don't have anywhere else pressing that I need to be, so...

I'm usually a pretty laid-back person, which drives the Type A personalities around me nuts. I get wound up/stressed out if someone is an asshole toward me in some way, and also over big things...like Republicans, or fundamentalist Christians (or Jews, or Muslims).

I try to have more patience after working in retail, but it generally doesn't work. Especially when driving... I sometimes find myself wanting to get out of my car in traffic, walk up to the person in front of me and say 'Excuse me, but your gas pedal is on the RIGHT, not the LEFT. happy driving!'

i have a lot of patience.

if i get stuck in a long line at the grocery store or walmart, it's usually my own fault. saturday evening at 6pm? yeah, it's going to busy. if i choose to go then, i figure i choose to stand in line. so i watch all the other people around me going nuts and getting impatient and crabby, and go totally zen.

stuck in traffic? great opportunity to listen to music. nothing you can do about it. getting upset doesn't get you there sooner.

ditto if i'm at work, and an edit is going slowly - and the editor is getting tense - i tend to make jokes with him/her to lighten the mood. if he/she makes a bad edit and has to re-do it, i usually just say, "that was just PRACTICE, right?" it makes them laugh, and no one gets all tense. my basic attitude is, it's just not worth it. being calm is so much more enjoyable. and you get more done if you don't waste energy being impatient.

(do i sound like a new age freak? eeks. can;t have that. well.... i have absolutely NO patience for laziness, ignorence, idiocy, or indifference). how's that?

let me tell you all something that I've found works. I've just discovered this this past week. whenever you feel patience running low, think of a song and pick your favorite line and sing it. sing it outloud.

my songline of choice:

"to da left, to da left...erything you own in da box to da left"

it works wonders.

telemarketers are the worst.

one from my credit card company called just the other night and went on the tangent about some security feature that 7.99/month - he talked so fast and then all I heard was him say "I just need you to say yes"

I said the following: "hell no...I don't know what you're talking about, you're barely speaking audible English and frankly, I don't feel like discussing my credit card right now...it's kind of a sore subject."

he said: "thank sir...have a good night"

See, you? Are a courteous check writer. You know who to make it out to & you know how to sign your name, so you do it ahead of time, perhaps while the cashier is still ringing up your purchases. Problem is, most others aren't like you. Apparently they think they'll be arrested if they try to fill out any portion of the check before the cashier tells them the total. Oh, and they never have their ID ready either.

I do think part of it is a small town thing. Go 30 miles in any direction of here, and the credit card machines take like two minutes to process your card. And they don't have "pay at the pump". Damned hillbillies!

tee hee. i approve.

okay - i thought of a sitch in which i have NOOOOO patience. if i'm in a store, and someone asks if they can help me... no. wait. i think i need to write out an example of the exchange i had recently to make my point:

scene: a downtown toronto department store. me, walking into the decleor skin care section of the make up department.

decleor (ie. specially trained in the line) salesgirl: can i help you find something?

me: i need some of my moisturizer... (me looking at the shelf it's usually on). do you have the mattifying one?

salesgirl: we do.. but we also have a new version of it - this is the new one.

me: (looking at it, looking at the old one, trying to read the ingredients to see what the difference is): what's the difference between the two?

salesgirl: well, it's a new package and it's not called mattifying. i think it smells different.

me: so you don't actually know.

salesgirl: yes, it's a different formula.

me: but you clearly don't know what the difference is.

salesgirl: it's a different formula.

me: i gathered that. but do you know what makes it different?

salesgirl: it's a different package...

me: right. thanks anyway.

i actually left without buying it. that kind of incompetence drives me insane!! i will leave a store without buying what i went in for if the sales help is incompetent. my other HUGE pet peeve is when i'm looking for a size, and a salesgirl comes along and says, can i help you find a size? uh, no thanks. i can tell the difference fine between s, m, and l's, and i'm just as capable as you of looking through this pile of sweaters.

oh - and another time, i asked a salesclerk if he had an XS in white in a top i wanted in the backstore. he looked at me like i was from another planet. then he started looking through the pile i had just looked through. i said, uh, i already looked here - no extra-small. that's why i asked if you have it in the back. then he said, no but we have it in lots of other colours here in small. i walked out.

o.k. aside from the usual-(people cutting in front of lines, stupid people etc. ) I thought of something else I have no patience for.

I canNOT stand people who were born with silver spoons up their ass and think they are better than other people. I don't mind people that have more money that me (because then I wouldn't like anyone  ) but when you think that because of the car you drive, or the house you live in-that makes you a better person than me-that's when we have a problem.

ha. I know I joke about my coach purses on here, but I absolutely do not think I'm better than anyone on here, the homeless guy down the street, or the guy who picks up my garbage every tuesday. Money doesn't make the person

OMG - like at McDonald's - how fukcing stupid are these adults who wait ten minutes in line and then get up to order and have no clue what the fukc they want. HELLO IT IS MOTHER FUKCING MCDONALD'S - they have been there a billion times in the past and just spent ten minutes in line with NOTHING to do but look at the menu

my ex used to do this...he'd have to look at the menu every freaking time we went to McD's, even in the drive thru, and then fish through a handful of change for the CORRECT CHANGE!!! i should've killed him then :blob2:

Oooh... that **** drives me nuts.

Not so much people having no clue what they want to order, because I do that too, but the correct change thing. Ugh... people it takes you longer to find the right coins to pay with than it would take the cashier to count out your change. Just f*cking round up to the nearest dollar or five dollars or whatever the hell you have! Stop holding up the damn line just so you can lighten your purse!

some people believe if you pay with exact change, you save bunches of money in the long run.

I, personally, wouldn't know-considering I've been told I'm allergic to money. I have to get it away from me as soon as it hits my pockets.

I'm usually a very patient person, since I'm so laid back. But after a certain point I become a real bitch. Like most people. :p

Yeah, okay, that doesn't make a damn bit of sense.

And if people do it with discretion (i.e. when there's only a short line or nobody waiting behind them at all) it's fine. But if you're, let's say, at a fast food place at lunchtime and there's a freaking line going out the door DON'T DO IT. Or, if I'm waiting on you at my freaking office and there are people waiting behind you and the phone is ringing... yeah, talk about lack of patience on my part.

I offload my change at the grocery store early in the morning. I pick out a bunch of stuff and go to the self check and just keep putting in coins until I reach the total.

I used to use coins to make payments on my account balance at one of the vet hospitals where I used to work. Anytime I had change in my pocket I'd put it on my account... 5 cents, 10 cents, whatever. It drove the book keeper nuts until she finally made a rule that nobody could make a payment less than $1.

DEFINITELY doesn't apply to him....he was $40K in the credit card hole when he left (he took all his debt with him)! he did it to be an ass...man, i'm glad he's gone...talk about losing one's patience!! :D
