I LOVE the way Betty Buckley totally upstages Brightman on Memory at the 2006 Kennedy Center Honors - watch her sell those last few notes to the back row - nee the parking lot!!!! And - BB is likely well into her 60's with that powerhouse, blockbuster voice!

You have to either watch the whole thing or FF to abot 6:15 seconds.
Poor Brightman and her comparatively anemic voice. Notice how much further the mic is from BB's mouth than SB's mic was.
Betty once said her mic failed in her first performace of this in Cats and she used her full voice unmic'd - could you imagine that

yup. Sarah's voice has a prettier quality, though. And I would kill for her extensions.
BB did smoke her.

SB does have a pretty voice that dances on being operetic. She can be shrill though when she pushes it. I do like her though. I just love how BB nails it to the wall!

Well, I have always loved the light, airy quality of Sarah Brightman's voice, but Buckley is undeniably more powerful, and for this song, emotive: the last, high note is sublime. She gave me instant chills. Notice, also, the kind of loud gasping breaths Sarah took; my father (a trained singer) would always point that out to me, and now I can't help but zero in on it, when I hear it.
Sarah's extra-long hair is so beautiful, and she looks like such an angel. She reminds me of a silent film star.
So, is that a shot of Michelle Lee in the audience? Yikes! If so, that's some creepy plastic surgery. meow.
Thanks for pointing this out, it is fun to see!

What a fukcing voice!!!!! Again, notice how far the mic is from her mouth - and that last note - SHEEBUS!!!!!!
Actually, this is from the Sondheim 20th An. celebration at Carnagie Hall - which was splendid - esp. Liza's number.

Now what was she doing in Eight is Enough? Oh, I guess she made enough money to let her reside on the stage for the rest of her career.

I have to admit that Betty sounds like she is kinda struggling... and her voice kinda gives out on the word "alone." But you've gotta admire her heart and determination for giving this song everything she's got.
I, however, am no "Buckhead." Some years ago I was dragged to one of Betty Buckley's solo shows at the Bottom Line and it was painful hearing her totally eviscerate Joni Mitchell's "River." I mean, b**** please. Many singers have tried and failed... just don't go there!

since we're playing this game, here's Sarah singing Nessun Dorma...not my favorite performance, but I can't find the one I like so this will have to do.

Betty didn't own Sarah. Betty simply had the "diva part" of the song is all. And she hit a rather noticeable flat note at that. Kudos tho to both ladies for sharing the same stage and singing one of the great songs of our time.
On a funnier note, I was watching the clip and I paused it to catch a glimpse of Miss Dolly. I chuckled when I saw the text under ALW, Spielberg, and Dolly.
