to say the least.
where shall I start?
woke up this morning, fine enough. Then I got to work.
Our first patient was in a car accident on saturday and had displaced his bottom front for teeth. We had never seen him before so had NO idea what we were about to get ourselves into. So he shows up-polo shirt on inside out. The wreck occurred because his "girlfriend" was drinking and driving. She was in court today dealing with that. And the fact she was in her current "husband's" car. Whoops. Moving on. He insists that he has a "high tolerance" for pain med  and needs oxycontin or something similar. He had been to the ER twice since the wreck. I happen to walk in while our other (pregnant) assistant goes to the restroom. I had to babysit him so his ass wouldn't jump out the damn window or something:lol: He realizes I am fresh meat, so he's asking me if we have samples of pain med. um. no. Then wants me to go get the doctor because he has another..."question". His question? He wants to know if we can give him Dilaudid. I told him we don't prescribe that kind of pain med.
"well...uh....uh...see...my back...it really hurts and I need it for that"
I wasn't even in the mood for that ****. I have absolutely NO tolerance for this crap because my dad has a problem with prescription pain meds. (and don't think I'm being a cold-hearted bitch-it gets better)
so I inform him that
"no. we are a dental office here to take care of your dental needs. If you have back problems you need to see a physician or chiropractor"
  dude FUKCING freaks out and hands start flying everywhere...hit me..(I guess accidentally...I'll assume that even though we still called the police). All this happened AFTER he took our overhead light and thought he was in the movie star wars and he was driving off to the final frontier. Or was that start trek? who can keep up?
  If I could even BEGIN to make this **** up...I would be a selling books.
SO THEN. I told a story a long time ago about my patient with alzheimer's. A while back he took a stroll out in the back yard, but no one knew where he was and his wife and I were running up and down the street looking for him. Well, he came in today because his front crown came out. I asked him if he had it and he told me he did. He whipped out his billfold and gave me a $20 :( :( It was so sad. I didn't want to embarrass him, so I told him he could hang on to that for now and we would get it later.
So to end on a GOOD note. I run into him (alzheimer's guy) and his wife ALL the time at pizza hut. She asked if after his procedure he would need to stay away from anything. I told her "no...I won't deny you pizza hut!!" they invited me, but I couldn't go for another 2 hours. They came back about an hour later with a box full of pizza!!:) I gave her a big hug and kinda started crying it was so sweet!!! I nice ending to the morning I had!!!

no. it wasn't that hard. Hard enough to leave a red mark at the moment, but I don't think it will swell or bruise. If he does I swear to god I'm going after his skank ass and kicking it. We'll know tomorrow :)

Then there is this.
It's kinda funny to me. Actually the patient that has alzheimer's got to me more.
nah...I wouldn't leave because of that. I've had my fingers bit, stabbed my fingers with instruments, had blood fly in my eye. This is nothing...

well....that kinda goes with the territory.
I know. We usually have about 1 or two a week. Sometimes more. Usually they are less obvious than this guy. I guess becuase they are getting them to sell them. I think it's also usually the case that the people that sell them don't take them. So they can keep their cool a little bit easier that someone who is desperate. I can have compassion, but that flew out the window pretty quick.
 Christ, I don't get that much excitement in 6 months  I hope you're writing memoirs or something  And I'm glad you're OK ;)
god, I know. I thought I was out of luck because I haven't written everything down up until this point, but I see there is more **** in store for me
thanks :xoxo:

 and so it gets better. My best friend (the one in all my pics) who is pregnant called and told me she was in labor. she lives in nashville (2 hours away) so i'm already half-way loaded up in the car and she tells me she's kidding. I thought "i" went into labor  but she is 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced so it's any day now *squeal* :blob1:

ROTFLMAO!
Michelle - make sure you get a Hep screen & HIV test, then again in 3-6 months. You don't know what people have, especially drug seekers, since they'll do anything fror drugs. And I hope you're pressing charges!

well..i've had all my shots for hep and my titer (sp?)
the other things were from previous instances (not violent!!), needle sticks, the occasional splatter of blood up in my face etc. and I went and got tested for those. The guy from yesterday didn't do anything serious (break the skin, bruise etc) so do I still need to go??
I didn't press charges :o
dude-I didn't press charges on this guy I dated (years ago) he kept following me around. I went into a bar one night and he kept harassing me. -followed me out to my car, wouldn't let me get in. said "if I wanted to get in, I was going to have to 'move' him" whatever. So I went in and called the police. they moved him  There was more to the story than that. he would show up at my apartment. I would open the door and he would waltz in after I asked him to leave....showed up at the post office when I checked my mail. it was stupid.
I probably should have in both instances, but eh...I'm sure they both have enough legal problems. What's one more charge?

I KNOW!! and like I said before. Half the ****, it's not like I GET myself into it or anything. well, yeah.... I do
but a lot of it just really cracks me up. Well, stalker guy wasn't funny at the time. Not when he said he was going to smash my (then) boyfriends head into his truck
but now the whole thing gives me a chuckle. (still not that part though)

Well, it's not common to actually get anything with an eye exposure. But I'd get retested for HIV & throw in Hep C a few months down the line to be sure. He sounds dirty. :o
You should totally press charges. JMO, of course.

they only thing that happened with that particular guy was the swinging of the hands and him slapping/hitting me. Every thing else was from prior patients and the patient as well as myself got checked. I think I'm pretty much o.k. in that dept. but if I ever see him again, I may have to slap the **** out him.. that will be SO much better than pressing charges
thanks for your help :xoxo:
