I was just watching CNN as they covered James Brown's funeral. As they were showing a shot of people slowly passing by JB's coffin, there was Stevie paying her last respects.

Thanks for the heads-up, Steve.
I'm intrigued that she was there. I had no idea Stevie knew James Brown well enough to attend his funeral... or even at all.
Was he on Atlantic Records too?
Speaking of which... does anyone know if she attended Ahmet Ertegun's funeral? I'd imagine she did.

I checked cnn.com and there's only a very short clip up. I'd turn on CNN, but I have the radio on. Besides, here they're still covering Saddam I think.

OH MY GOSH! I passed up the chance to visit my best friend in Augusta (2 hours away) and attend the festivities of his funeral AND STEVIE WAS THERE! Good Lord!
My friend is a music director up there and covered the events and had all access...who would've thought that?????? :distress: I am depressed...not for Mr. Brown mind you...but that I could've seen her (who cares about Michael Jackson!!!)

 My friend who was there didn't see Stevie at all! Well, I think that everyone was so busy looking at freaky Michael Jackson and the show put on by Rev. MC Hammer (that is his title now, right?)...so they missed her.
Also, she was just one of over 50 or more artists there...PLUS celebrities. I was told that even Oprah was there and she attracts a crowd, ya know! Most of them left after the private ceremony that was earlier...but those who LIKE to attract attention stayed. Of course, I have no idea if Stevie was invited to the private ceremony...although if my friends buddy from the radio station was...I'm assuming most celebrities were as well.
They packed the James Brown Arena today with a capacity crowd of a little over 8,000...they had to leave room on the floor for special guests/dignitaries. I think he would have "felt good" knowing they turned out for him...especially some out of hiding!
I'll post pics and exclusive vids if he got any good ones L8r.

 You can't expect John Kinney to know her whereabouts 24/7 IMHO...I assume he gets his info from Chris Nicks, which is why I am sure it takes a while to confirm anything. We all have sources for "Second Hand News" (PUN INTENDED!) and until it is CONFIRMED, it can't be legally posted on an official site. Honestly, would sightings at funerals and personal events constitute an announcement on her site??? Sounds tacky to me, but I know that "opinions are like rectums, everyone has them and they ALL STINK!"

John is a good guy and I often feel bad for him because, as being the OFFICIAL site, he cant put **** on the page until management says it's OK. And Stevie attending a funeral might not seem like "an appearance".
Thankfully, there are many other outlets to get the Stevie info we want.
RIP James Brown. You were an original...one of the legends...

I just did a google news and yahoo news search and she's not mentioned as being in attendance at his funeral in any of the news stories up about the funeral. Neither is Oprah Winfrey's name showing up in any searches about celebs in attendance at his funeral, just Jesse Jackson, Michael Jackson, Al Sharpton, Don King. I did some photo searches too but didn't find anything there either. Maybe something will hit the wire services or photo sites later.

I tried not to get too much into this in the RIP thread because I know many people here love James Brown. But since another thread has been started, I really need to say that I have been disturbed all week with the total whitewashing of this man's history of abuse towards women. He was a great talent and musically a hero and pioneer for many. So celebrate and honor that.
But all week I've been hearing about how he is a role model and a mentor and I'm sorry but that is pure crap. He was a wife beater, being charged and admitting to abuse at the age of 70!! At that age he should have learned and known better. He also said very recently that women need to know their limitations and justified his feelings about women based on the Bible.
I know he had a hard life but none of that excuses violence, especially towards women. Almost every news account talks about this part of him as his "troubled" time. BS. No, not troubled: violent, misogynist, and not fitting for a role model and mentor.
Why do people feel the need to make someone into an angel just because they die?
He was a groundbreaking entertainer and musician and I honor him for that.

You hit the nail on the head! After e-mailing him and corresponding all these years...I had the pleasure of meeting him at the Tom Petty show (at the will call window) last summer and he's such a hard worker...not just for Stevie, but for us as well! No matter what others think...which I sometimes think is out of jealousy (she picked him! Not us! ) on some fans part, but that's another thread entirely...so I'll digress!

I'm hoping to get more details from my friend, but he named off as many people as he could remember...their station news guy (he's just the music director) was at the private ceremony and will have lots of juicy tidbits and photos for us. I'm soooo surprised Oprah isn't mentioned as well....Hmmm:confused:

I totally agree! If you'll notice...I only cared about the festivities and the celebrities it brought to GA! My friend is a guy and he met Mr. Brown (you couldn't EVER get away with calling him James...he'd have a FIT he said!) numerous times around town at restaurants, bars, clubs, etc. Guys admired him mostly...he was revered around there for his charitable work of late is what I've been told. Although, I wonder if this "wifey" situation was on purpose so she wouldn't get his $$? She was the one he served time over...and now the kids will get all the money equally.

:sorry: I understood that...sorry if I led you to believe I was disagreeing with you. I just felt the need to defend JK's Nicksfix, because I have heard so much negative chatter about it. We all are so hungry for info on her whereabouts 24/7 (I'm guilty!) and the thought occurred to me that there might be a sightings page of that sort that is in demand. I abhor the thought. It reminds me of the fascination I have always had with Princess Diana...and we know what that did to her. Sadly, I am still enamored with her...even visited her grave in the summer of 1998. I will again next summer. And wallow in the grief of a beautiful soul lost for nothing...

He was a groundbreaking entertainer and musician and I honor him for that. You're absolutely right on both accounts. He was all of that, the good and the bad, and it just so happens to be that usually when people die everybody else around focuses on the good. I've never attended a funeral before where all the shortcomings of the deceased were highlighted. Many people see through what he did wrong and focus on what he did right, which was being an incredible influence in the music world. At least, I hope that's why Stevie attended.
I have to admit, I've never been a James Brown fan, and his passing didn't really affect me, but I can understand why it affects others, abusive man or not.

I watched CNN last night, their 10pm-11pm newshour and was just flabbergasted as they devoted about half the newscast to James Brown's funeral, they spent more time talking about it than they did Ford's state funeral ceremony in the Capitol & Saddam's hanging! WTF? To me it was just further proof of this country's obsession with celebrities (she said as she posted on a celeb-based message board, ahem) and our lack of focus on real news.
And I'm not even a Republican (very liberal Dem) but how can you justify giving more air time to James Brown than you do a former president of the United States?
I did think about calling in last night when CNn was soliciting what memories we had of James Brown. I wanted to say, "That God Awful mug shot of him after he got drunk, got high, and was beating the **** out of his woman and got arrested for it." Somehow though, I didn't think my memory would have made it on air!

 You have a fantastic point about our country's attention and let me add...ATTENTION SPAN! I really thought that after Princess Diana paid the ultimate price with her life for our curiosity (yes, the photographers and the bodyguard/driver may have been the true guilty party!) and we keep making those same mistakes...
 I know I am obsessed with Stevie and I consider her American royalty (much like the Kennedy's in my heart and mind), and have been since I was a kid...and I was totally obsessed with Princess Diana before her death. I bought every magazine I could get my hands on as a teen and even had her haircut (or attempted!) and when she died I felt soooo guilty. So much so, I
visited her grave the next summer to pay my respects and will again at the 10 year mark next summer.
Point is...we are way too engulfed with celebrities personal lives. I should only be concerned with their professional life that they present to me...THAT THEY CHOOSE TO LET ME IN ON! Not what the media/paparazzi makes us privy to! :sorry: But that is how I feel...

I got to thinking about this the other day. Imagine if Stevie and FM were just coming to fame right now, in our current tabloid celebrity era. Can you imagine what they would be printing about Stevie and Lindsey and the demise of their relationship? Or of John's and Christine's? Or Mick and Jenny's? Or the drug use? Alcohol abuse? My God the paparazzi would have had a field day and then some! Particularly since Christine and Stevie were then and still are such great looking women? Oh my God. They would have been on the cover of every single tabloid every single week! I bet they're glad they got famous when they did and not know!
And we still don't know for sure that Stevie DID attend his funeral. I've seen no independent confirmation of her or Oprah Winfrey or anyone other than the names I saw in the articles. That's not to say they weren't, but I'd like to know for sure.

First of all, that little "classy" remark was very tongue-in-cheek. But, I didn't use an emoticon, which may have gotten my point across better. I forgot that people do not understand that over here.

That is not to say that everyone here has an unhealthy one...mind you! That is actually one of my resolutions this year...some people are addicted to drugs and alcohol, but I have a Stevie issue. as someone who works in tv news, i can tell you, there isn't the time, nor space, nor interest to mention every single celebrity who attends another celebrity's funeral. the biggies might get a nod. but that's about it. because, newsflash, it's not about them! i have not a doubt in the world stevie was there (not that i care a wit), or that many other celebs were, too. at the end of the day... james brown is dead. hundreds of people paid their respects - ordinary folks, musician types who knew him, some who didn't, his closest friends, his family.
