I just saw Sky news. They showed the whole thing.
It was utterly disgusting. The hypocrisy of the tv networks is breathtaking. They can't show dead Iraqis because 'it would upset people' but funny how they can show a man having the noose tightened around his neck.
It really shook me up.

I was actually speaking to someone last night about this and he said I hope they film it. After I went "ewwww why?" he rightly pointed out that how was anyone to know it had actually been done and I think this is why it's been shown..to prove it has been done and there's some sort of closure for those unfortunate Iraqi families who had suffered through him. I don't think it's for the thrill of watching him die as such.

I'm afraid I think there is quite a bit of thrill seeking about it all. Sky has been flooded with complaints so I'm not the only one who found it awful to see.

Andre - Sky is a pretty good news channel.
I had just woken up and caught an early bulletin and was met with a gruesome video. The combination of still being a little sleepy and the detail was really quite upsetting.

Immediately after the clip the news anchor commented that 'many o fyou have sent in emails and texts about the images.'

Subsequent bulletins were toned down with the video shown in parts and even then only for a few seconds.

Clearly editorial policy only changed after public reaction.

I don't even want to post about my feelings on barbaric death penalty, digusting media craze, etc. But I am rather stunned at the quick judicial and appeals process in Iraq. I hadn't been following this very carefully but I had no idea he would get executed so quickly.

Yes, we get all the channels including many of the American ones like CNN, fOX etc. For big news stories I like to watch a variety of channels to get as broad a perspective as possible. I just happened to watch Sky first today.

Shocked it took this long and hasn't been shown in the US yet. I mean, we made it happen, why not show it 24/7? They should show it on a loop right after a White House celebratory party. I can see Bush, Cheney and Condomleeza clinking champagne glasses right now.

I was also suprised they didn't show it! I knew it was being taped...and I know they were weighing the pros and cons of airing it - I knew it would available via Internet....sadly it's something that a great many people looked forward to and want to see. I, for one, will pass on seeing the actual thing...though I have to admit a small part of me iscurios

I do understand the curiosity factor and I would probably have been the same but I have to say, having seen it I really wish I hadn't. It's stayed with me all day and not in a good way. It was a very powerful image. I've largely avoided watching the news since.

I recently saw a film called Infamous in which there is a very graphic hanging scene, that was bad enough but at least I knew it was just acting. This was not only real but was also a man we have all 'known' for years and years.

Now apparently some mobile phone footage has been discovered and the television is showing that too. It's clear the whole thing was a bigger farce than was originally thought.

 that, among other reasons, is why I will not watch the video of the execution. I know it would haunt me - seeing a real killing..no matter how evil the man I can't sit and watch someone's death like that...

yeah, i will not watch this. a few years ago i made the mistake of watching the video of the beheading of that journalist ... ugh. made me ill. i'll never give into that kind of morbid curiosity again.

I opened that video - it started and I promptly closed it. I knew I would never be able to get that image out of my head, so I've still never seen it.

I made the mistake of clicking on a link on someone's MySpace page - it was a funny picture but it took me a horrid site full of really disturbing images...car accident scenes, shooting aftermath etc...some of them have never left my brain. So no, I don't give into my morbid curiousities...but they are there.
