you don't get Tusk, and you don't get Lindsey,in my opinion. Lindsey so called fans should get the brilliance of that song. It is so Lindsey and So Tusk. When I heard it I said to myself "Lindsey is back", but the hate for that song boggles my mind.

Where in Tusk does he not sing, but speak lyrics that are cliche, painfully literal, and borderling egotistical? He also doesn't play an out of tune guitar on Tusk. Well that's notreally true. But it was more charming on Tusk.
I still like the song alright, but I respectfully disagree with the comparisons to Tusk

agreed...as it is an equally arrogant thing to say that Not Too Late doesn't match with what Lindsey's trying to achieve.
But I can get along with Tusker. Welcome, by the way. Tusk wasn't very good received, either. I say that NTL isn't crap, but heartfelt. Everybody else may say something different. Time will tell. Like with Tusk....:p

Welcome to the board tusker.
I 'get' not too late, I just don't particularly like it. It's my least favourite track on a CD I otherwise love and no amount of waxing lyrical about its qualities by anyone is going to make me like it more if it just doesn't quite grab me.

If you don't like "When I See You Again", you don't get Rock A Little, and you don't get Stevie, in my opinion. Stevie's so called fans should get the brilliance of that song. It is so Stevie and Tango. When I heard it I said to myself "Stevie is back," but the hate for that song boggles my mind.
If you don't like "When You Say", you don't get Then Play On, and you don't get Danny Kirwan, in my opinion. Danny's so called fans should get the brilliance of that song. It is so Danny and so Then Play On. When I hard it I said to myself "Danny is back", but the hate for that song boggles my mind.

Funny, but I have to defend Tusker here. Your examples miss the point. Those songs have never been flagships for those two songwriters, and were definately not defining the musical approach they were going for at that moment. I understand the logic of Tuskers arrogant preassumption, because Lindsey uses NTL as a flagship for his so called "musical vision" of this new album. He did that with "Tusk" too.

Oh, I get it. I just don't like it.
I'm being facetious, of course. I really don't dislike the tune, it's just taken a while to grow on me & it's still not a huge favorite of mine. I don't skip it when it comes on or anything. Actually, I don't skip any of UTS, come to think of it....

No, Not liking it does NOT equal being facetious. That was pointed at other arguments than not liking it. And you "get" UTS in my point of view. Not skipping is essential in this album....everything belongs together and sticks. It's not a pile of tunes, but a cohesive, chained album. Weird with all those covers and old material.

I apologize, I had a few in me when I wrote that post. I still am suprised when I hear that most of you don't like it. The first time I heard it, I was like "whoah this is going to be a great album". If he were to perform songs like UTS live, it would be boring IMO. The simple strumming wouldn't showcase his talent at all.
I also seem to love songs on Tusk that many of you put low on your list. Walk a Thin line and That's all for Everyone for example. Even Christines songs that many of you dislike, (Honey Hi, Warm Ways etc) I love. Maybe I have wierd tastes. I tend to go for the very melodic and intricate harmonies of FM. Anyway latah!

I'm sure I'm reading too much into it, but the implication here is that you view performances as just a place to showcase his fingerpicking. "Under The Skin" is a melodic, well written song, and "Not Too Late" just isn't. It's good for other reasons, but it has very little musical to offer, save for a few interesting arpeggios. If you're into the musical side of things, and not preoccupied by lyrical meanings and fancy guitar playing, you enjoy melodic, "boring" songs like "Under the Skin" live. Which is why this comment...

No, I meant I was being facetious when I said I didn't like it. Because I do like it, in reality. Just not as much of many of you, that's all.

I like NTL. I just really don't like the way he says "reading the papahhhhh". I wish he would have redone that one phrase. The rest of the song is A-OK.

Awful songs. Both. I can`t stand them.
And comparing NTL with That made me stronger is so far from anything to me... You can like or dislike the approach of the song or of the album, but surely Lindsey does always have interesting or at least new ideas to offer whereas Stevies solo albums beg for exactly what was the reason for writing "That made me stronger". And that is a different songwriter who creats interesting songs and lets her add her vocals then.

I think it's rather presumptuous to claim you "get" Lindsey better than other people, unless you two are psychically connected somehow. But at least you qualified it as your opinion.
I find NTL somewhat tedious in parts lyrically. The "Now that's been a problem" lyric seems like a filler because he couldn't think of something better. That said, I like the mood he evokes with the melody, and I admire it stylistically. I just think the lyrics are not what they could be, and the vocal could be a bit stronger. But seeing as how I travelled hundreds of miles to see Lindsey multiple times and have in the past adored him to the point of obsession, I daresay I can call myself a fan in spite of my scandalous opinion. :)

"Stung by Fleetwood Mac's recluctance to make another record, 57-year-old Buckingham made this solo album, his first in 14 years, in hotel rooms on their last tour. Spare arrangements, intimate ambiance, candid lyrical themes. A revelation. Standout track: Not Too Late."
I guess someone agrees with me! LOL!

When someone says it's the standout track it'll be hard to discuss the fact that it's a good idea to use it as a flagship for an album. But then again, that's possible: using the standout track as a flagship can be of less commercial brilliance, but we were saying that HE IS NOT GOING FOR that!
By the way, Using Tusk as a first single after Rumours could have been a dumb commercial choice too. It WAS. But it was the flagship of what FM stood for at that moment.
At last, let's recognize the fact that Lindsey IS NOT going for the buck, although he reached a level of income that says something else.

AMEN to that. Using Tusk after Rumours is one of the best things Fleetwood Mac ever did. Even if they all pointed at LB afterwards and went "well, we're not doing that again..." It is what has led to Lindsey recording solo material. He has music in him to get out that doesn't fall under the commerical goals of some of the other members in Fleetwood Mac. And that is just one of the reasons some of us have so much respect for him.
Lindsey, play whatever you want!!! I thank him for playing what he feels he needs to get out. Not what others think will sell his record.
P.S. I see what you mean about the "Not Too Late" controversy. ha!
