anyone heard of them? Ive got two CD's by them, I bought on a whim, and its interesting music, but the thing that really amazes me is the minimalist packaging, I have one that is completely white with shadows of leaves, and the booklet is the same, with no words, no liner notes no lyrics no nothing!
I dont speak swede/norse/dane/whatever it is (icelandic!) so Im a bit lost about the significance of the minimalist approach, but the second CD is similar, brown cardboard tri-fold, with what looks like a watercolor of a boy among trees...
here is their website (http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/) and you can see what I mean about the graphics and even hear music clips...
oh well, just wondering if anyone else has heard of them...
here is one CD cover, its called ( ) yep thats it, parentheses!

The same land that Bjork is from; Iceland must just produce odd people. I know that it was the favorite band of either Lena or Kristy from the Amazing Race 6.

well, thats an interesting tidbit! Their music is more instrumental than not, at least the stuff I have......and I like instrumentals so....
did you check out their website? in the Media section you see pics of them, my GAWD, they're all bundled up like Eskimos! I understand they're from Iceland, but good grief! It must be HELL to live there! (for me, I hate the cold!)

I LOVE Sigur Ros. A friend was kind enough to take me to see them live at the Chicago Opera House earlier this year, and it was about the best show I've ever seen. Granted, we were stoned out of our gourds, but it was an experience like none other. Really transcendent.

You really have to be stoned out of your gourd to listen to them! The sound itself is interestingly psychedelic... but after 8 minutes of the same two chords and someone wailing in an unintelligible tongue, it starts to grate on me after a while. :sorry:

I'm with you- I don't listen to their albums just for fun, or in the car. I put on their music when I want to lie alone in a dark room, or get stoned and watch a lava lamp.
Seeing them live, though, was just amazing. It was transcendent. The songs just built into these massive crescendos that were stunning. I've never seen anything like it.
Dooce wrote a great review of a show she saw in SLC the week after mine- she says it better than I can.

Yes. I really love Sigur Ros... but usually in small doses.
I like them too ! I own only one of their albums though, the white one (?). I think it was their second.

Yeah I dig them. I only have one album. The one with the "( )" on the cover. Song #4 is beautiful. Very sweeping and emotional.
