Nicole Richie arrested, investigated for DUI
BURBANK, California (AP) -- Nicole Richie was arrested early Monday for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said.
California Highway Patrol officers took Richie, 25, into custody without incident after she failed a field sobriety test, CHP Officer Todd Workman said.
Her black Mercedes sport utility vehicle was stopped in the car pool lane of State Highway 134 when officers arrived.
Authorities said they received 911 calls about a car going the wrong way on the freeway and the car matched the description of Richie's.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department report, Richie was set free on $15,000 bail.
Richie, star of "The Simple Life" reality series and daughter of pop singer Lionel Richie, was booked in Glendale, tested for drugs and released later Monday morning, Workman said. He said the results of the drug test hadn't been determined.
A message left with Richie's publicist wasn't immediately returned.
Richie stars with on-off friend Paris Hilton in "The Simple Life."
Burbank is 10 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

I don't like to laugh at other people's misfortunes buuut....
No seriously though, driving the wrong way on the freeway!?! That's some serious stuff right there, if that happened and it was her (or anyone really), she could have killed herself and others....
There's just no excuse for this :distress:

No Joke! .... to all that you wrote.
To call this gal a knucklehead is the understatement of the decade.
Driving while drunk is unexcusable...... and yes, I do have personal experience with someone being killed by a drunk driver so I have NO tolerance there.
Driving on the wrong way on the freeway? Now that is some serious stuff there and rarely turns out with a happy ending.
It's amazing how clueless these "rich kids" are and how their parents are so apparently uncaring.
Then it's always some "regular person" that ends up dead and the rest of us end up with coverage adnauseum. UGGGHHHHH.....

Vicodin is a controlled substance. If it was just weed, she'd be charged with some sort of misdemeanor possesion unles she had a huge amount on her. If she had a prescription, then they simnply would have charged her with driving while impaired. I am drawing these conclusions from what I read on The Smoking Gun. Possession of a controlled substance is a felony, I believe. She has a prior bust for possesion of heroin, so I'm guessing that this new charge is a felony.

Ah, thank you for the recap.
I am still suprised she didn't have a prescription. But now I'm also thinking, how the heck much vicodin would you have to take to make you drive the wrong way on a freeway and stop in a carpool lane? Even if she smoked, too?

I don't know if you've ever taken Vicodin but from my own personal experience with it you think you're all okay when you're really not. Combine that with being only 85 pounds (if that) and some really good weed and next thing you know, you're driving the wrong way down the freeway. Now, I've driven the wrong way on a one way street while sober, so it can happen, especially at night.

At 85 lbs she pretty much could have licked the vicodin and had an effect.

Hasn't she already BEEN in rehab a few times? I sometimes wonder if there's a limit.
Ah well, it seems that people like this exist simply for the bizarre entertainment of the rest of us. Circus sideshows have been shut down, so the useless and talent-free wealthy are the new freaks. It's not like she even has something cool like a tail, a half grown twin hanging off her side, or an extra leg. The first and second time a person gets busted the judge can order some type of drug treatment program for them. In looking at the Smoking Gun website again, it appears that she is only being charged with a misdemeanor. I was looking at the felony charge from her heroin bust in 2003. So maybe she did have a prescription for the Vicodin.
I was reading elsewhere that Courtney Love was cleared of all charges today as she successfully underwent drug treatment.
I know Nicole admitted on Oprah that she gained weight after getting out of rehab and that she went back to her "natural" figure later when her body had adjusted to being clean. So I guess what she really meant was she had the surgery? Shame, shame. You can't lie to Oprah!

She'll probably be sentenced to go. If she had her stomach banded the doc should have his license revoked. I saw the interview with Lionel and Nicole where she said she had no eating disorder and he claimed to believe her. I couldn't believe the level of denial. I mean, have you seen her? There you go. Then the next morning you wake up with a concussion from whacking your head on the porcelain bowl whilst vomiting.
You know, I don't ever remember my grandmother (the Queen of prescription drug addicts) ever vomiting. Not even the time she drank peroxide in an attempt to get a buzz on. She must've had an iron constitution, to say the least. Of course, she did end up having to get her colon removed, so...

so, anyway, here's the latest:
Nicole Richie could be adding stripes to her wardrobe in the very near future.
TMZ has found court documents which reveal that Richie pled no contest four years ago to driving under the influence. Under California law, if Richie is convicted of DUI as a result of Monday's arrest, the judge must impose a jail sentence.
The law requires a mandatory sentence of five consecutive days in county jail as well as a one year license suspension for anyone twice-convicted of DUI. In addition, Richie would be ordered to attend an alcohol education program for a year-and-a-half, even if the second conviction is not alcohol-related.
As TMZ first reported, Richie admitted to CHP officers that she had taken Vicodin and smoked pot before driving the wrong way on a Burbank freeway. A field sobriety test revealed she was not under the influence of alcohol.
Cop: "What have you eaten today?"
Nicole: "French Fries"
TMZ has obtained the police documents in the 2002 case. In the arrest report it reveals that Richie told cops all she had eaten that day were french fries. As for what she drank that day -- "1 shot vodka."
She blew a .12. and a .13 in two separate tests. In California, .08 is considered legally intoxicated. Richie was stopped in her Toyota Corolla after a UCLA police officer observed her blowing a red light and driving over a speed bump at more than 50 miles an hour in an area with a 15 mph speed limit. Richie flunked the field sobriety test -- her eyes were watery and bloodshot, and she could not keep her balance.
Richie was given three years probation for her 2002 DUI conviction and had her license suspended for one year. Six months later, Richie was arrested for possession of heroin and for driving with a suspended license.
so, now we see a pattern. And I dont know if rehab will be an option for her.

 Muy interesante!!!
I think there should be harsher penalties for FIRST TIME offenders all around. It seems to me it's always so and so with 893473 prior drunken driving (or driving while impaired in others ways) records who ends up killing the family of four...it pisses me off....

I think Vicodin is overrated, but then, maybe she's built up a tolerance and needs quite a bit?
That'd be my guess.
Because after six years with Bush in office, our expectations are really, really low and we're all trying to focus on something else besides how ****ty our lives have become in that time. :)
How sad, and how true. :distress:
