I'm glad someone made a thread for him. its such a sad day but unfortunate for me I was born the day he was killed so it's half celebration. mum always tells the story of my birth but it makes me think about what happened a few hours later
this is particularly special grow old with me (http://www.sendspace.com/file/zdgfla)

I was lying in my bed with my huge headphones on and KISS FM was playing "Sara" from the just released FLEETWOOD MAC LIVE double album. When the song was finished, the disc jockey was choking back the tears and said that they had just received word that John Lennon had been murdered.
I will never forget that night.

a sad day in rock, when John Lennon was gunned down senselessly (I remember MNF's Howard Cosell announcing that John Lennon had just been shot, which immediately upset my Mom.)
Fast foward 24 years later (to the exact day) Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott was also gunned down senselessly.
2 musical minds, from 2 different musical environments and musical styles, gunned down on the same date.
Such a sad day...

This was truly a loss for mankind! I can only imagine how much better the world would be, if John were still here. Thank you, John, for your music and your giving of self to improve the world. Rest in Peace.

I remember that night so much. My brother and I were in my room watching the Tonight Show (w/ Johnny Carson, of course). He was laying on my bed and I was laying on the floor with my head on the pillow inside my bass drum. It was so surreal. Granted this was the day where you didn't have 24/7 news out the wahzoo so it was so out of nowhere.
Hard to believe it has been 26 years since.
I dare say they truly don't make 'em like Lennon anymore....

Wow, it's that day isn't it? Yes, it will. Enjoy it and remember as much as you can to share!
JL is to my Dad as Stevie is to me. It sucks that he was taken so young. Most of the men close to my Dad were too.
I'm really glad to see a thread remembering John. His music means so much to me. I get emotional just thinking about the anniversary of that day and how senseless all of it was. The most horrific thing of all was that he was just beginning to enjoy his peace of mind- for himself and then it just ended. He was amazing. There will never be an artist like John. He was completely original, so special, and everything he did- the good and the bad- somehow balanced out to make him truly endearing, flaws and all. A totally human person. I adore him. Really the greatest ever, in my opinion.

I was watching football and heard the news from Howard Cossell. I think that was the first time I ever cried over a celebrity's death. :(
I went to Pei Wei for lunch - the restaurant next to them always plays cool music, and has speakers outside. Edge was playing when I got there.
I also found the glove I'd thought I'd lost yesterday. :)

John Lennon was very special to me, my favorite of all the Beatles. I cried and cried and kept candlelight vigil as Yoko requested. I miss him still.:distress:

10 Things I Think I Think About John Lennon
With all apologies to Peter King:
1) I think that my copy of Blogging for Complete Morons says that "you must at least dedicate 1 post every December 8th to the memory of John Lennon.
2) I think that there are 4 types of people in the world: John people, Paul people, George people and Ringo people. Susan Sarandon is a John person. Richard Gere is a George person. Paris Hilton is a Ringo person. Most bloggers are John people. I am most definitely a Paul person, and that colors everything I say from here on out.
3) I think John people look down on us Paul people. They see us as empty and shallow. Instead of tring to change the world, we're making money and listening to "silly love songs".
4) I think Sharon Cobb's description of "Imagine" was incomplete. She said it "a prayer for world unity". I think a more apt description would be: "A prayer for world unity through communism and atheism". Not that there's anything WRONG with that...
5) I think everything about Yoko Ono is beyond my understanding. I'll never "get" her. As a Paul person, it's my job to blame her for breaking up the Beatles.
6) I think every decent band with more than one songwriter has a John and a Paul. Don Henley and Glen Frey. Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie. Big and Rich (no, I'm not kidding).
7) I think John people make their biggest mistake by announcing that they're going to change the world. True world-changing events take the world by surprise. Announcing your intentions just makes the world recoil and get defensive. Don't TELL me, SHOW me.
8) I think John was one of the 10 greatest songwriters of all time. Most of his greatest songs were written BY. (Before Yoko).
9) I think songwriting is a craft more than an art form. (I guess I live in the right town for that mindset). Therefore, Paul is ranked a little higher than John on my scale. The mystical, imaginary person "JohnPaul", who wrote their collaborations, is the greatest songwriter of the recording era.
10) I think the world misses John Lennon. He was a defining force of his time and he was taken too soon. Were he here today, certainly he'd be leading the anti-war movement. I'd much rather have a person of his intellectual heft be the musical face of the anti-war movement, rather than that vapid front woman of an ex-country trio, who has, you know, like, a hard time forming a cohesive thought.
John, even though we never saw eye to eye, I miss you!

It was a very sad day, I remember my Mum being upset though I didn't really understand it all then, being only 7. I do remember one night in a pub about 10 years ago when a guy came up to me freaking out, shouting "F**king hell, it's John Lennon" before he was dragged away by his friends. It did weird me out a bit at the time. OK, the guy was a bit drunk, but I don't/didn't look much like John, even though my brother was taken for Julian Lennon once - he even had to sign an autograph as Julian Lennon
I'm more of a George person too, but John was a very special guy.
