Midler Calls Britney a Slut And Urges Her To Get "Nicer"

http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/79/84/12s.jpgOutspoken diva Bette Midler has blasted Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan for their wild ways, calling them "sluts." The singer/actress admits she's had wild times, just like the party girls, but she would never have left her home without underwear and was appalled to see pictures of the girls baring all in recent photographs. She tells US news show Extra, "I've been on the other side to these wild and woolly sluts that we are seeing around our lives these days and I've taken the other side. I started my life out as pretty wild, but I have decided, after much growing and living, that its time that we got nicer! And I'm wearing underwear, a lot of underwear. In fact I'm wearing all the underwear that those girls are not wearing - at least two bras and several pairs of panties." And she has a stern message for Hollywood's leading party girls: "Get a life, get a grip. I mean someone should sit those ladies down."

This from the woman that came out for an encore dressed in only a robe and decided to FLASH the entire audience. Still, it's not bad advice.

I love me some Bette!!
I've been a fan of hers for years and even seen her in concert a couple of times.

IF AND UNTIL those young'uns can entertain with half the charisma of the Divine Miss M....
they are not fit to even touch the fin of Dolores Delago - The Toast of Chicago!!

NO ONE can carry two wingback chairs and an old Smith/Corona typewriter like Ms. Bette!

Oh poor Bette, she is really showing her age now. When she was their age being "wild" and now looking in retrospect, I think she is calling the kettle black... um just thinking out loud here...

yeah, i mean, it's advice.. but it's a little crazy to be like, "Hey slut, be NICE."

I'm not really inclined to take the advice of someone who just called me a slut, if yknow what I mean.

Actually I think Britney Spears looks older than Bette Midler. There's a difference between being wild in the 70s and be pathetic-cocaine addicted-alcoholic- vulgar-unreliable-rude-potentialy dangerous for themselves and the others- spoiled-twentysomething party idiots (just doing a summary of the two characters).

I agree......Bette made her NAME being outrageous. it wasnt until she got tied up with Disney and got married, and had a kid that she (all of a sudden) became respectable. PUH LEEZ.

my mistake. Hypocrisy. Thank you. I hope someday I can return the favor.

(apparently the possibiltity of a typo didnt cross your mind, but no matter......)

as for who gives a rats a**, I'd say YOU do. You are a Bette fan, and are willing to excuse any amount of disingenuousness on her part. Hmmmm. lets hope she's a good speller too.

Bette's comments sort of remind me of the ones that Stevie made about Brittney a few years back.

they do dont they? Stevie was warning Britney about her choices.....seems like Britney comes in for her fair share of criticism doesnt she? Course, she's young yet........when she gets to be Stevie's or Bette's age, Im sure she'll have some thoughtful advice for the next up and comers.......wouldnt you think?

I would be very surprised if Brittney will still be around when she gets to be Stevie and Bette's age. She will need a boat load of Ben Gay to be able to do those dance moves.

Bette Midler - she may have been wild - I'm sure she partied but she wasn't in the spotlight 24 hours a day - again, these people were able to make their mistakes of youth in a more private manner - and the girl of today DO seem to be a bit more outrageous than the girls of yesterday - there is a scary cultural shift going on that in turn is really making women lose ground in the whole "feminist movement"

I think Brittney's behaviour is attrocious. She a mother for God's sake and has no business being out all night EVERY night - I don't give a rats ass if she has been 'home bound" for two years..that's what happens when you have kids - you have to parent them.

So I think these women who have lived and done the partying are giving good advice - they know what they're talking about - so rather than being hypocrites I think they are just speaking from knowledge - trying to give good and valuable advice to these stupid girls who are making stupid choices in the public eye

as much as I'd like to agree with you, and I think you have a valid point, the stars that are lecturing Britney are KNOWN for outrageous behavior (flashing the audience? and thats just for starters  )

it just seems to me that these stars, well-intentioned tho they might be, would have more credibility if they hadnt engaged in outrageous behavior themselves. Or, if they prefaced their remarks with something along the lines of "hey, Ive been wild in my past too, so I know what Im talking about..." Then they would be coming across as giving advice from the "been there/done that" perspective. Thats different.

That said, I do agree that a little underwear goes a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way. Bette's right about that!

I don't know -flashing the audience is more of the performance aspect which is not what any of these women have spoken out against (except Stevie who did not enjoy the Brittney/Madonna kiss). But these women are talking specifically about their partying antics...and their complete lack of regard for themselves (flashing to kitty...come on..that's just low and disgusting)...not their performance styles or outrageous behaviour on stage/in rolls...

So had Bette been talking about that maybe I'd agree - but overall I think what Bette Midler said was lighter than most people are taking it - she a funny woman...

And it is sort of sad that these girls make all their mistakes in so public a manner - but it's their choice - there are plenty of upper teen 20-something stars who aren't partying every single night, flashing their goods around and being overall assholeish....so I think Britt, Linds and Paris do have some lessons to learn :D

Oh and yet again I hate myself for even caring about this issue

well, you do have valid points, as usual. I guess I just was doing my usual "sticking up for the underdog" bit, but yeah, there are some valid complaints about Britney's and Lindsay's and Paris' behavior. Of course, as you mentioned there didnt seem to be the media circus frenzy surrounding the stars/celebs of yesteryear as there is now......I guess we can thank Madonna for that........

Oh I'm not saying others points are invalid - I think there are a couple of angles on this issue....

I totally see what y'all are saying - about women who were once wild now saying "don't be" and a woman calling another a slut but telling her, in turn, to be nice

Really the whole thing is ridiculous and I maintain that if I had an endless stream of money coming my way and all fabulous clothes and privelage - I'd probably be right out there partying with 'em
