So the poor guy goes out and looks for help for his family and winds up dead. There is no justice it seems sometimes.:distress: This man was a TRUE hero. R.I.P James Kim.

I just read this. The rest of the family was found only a day or two ago. Tragic. :(

That's so sad. Did he just freeze to death?

That's so sad. Did he just freeze to death? They think hypothermia might have killed him possibly Saturday night. From what I understand it's quite humid at all times in that part of the country, and when the cold combines with that, it doesnt take long.

And it is good that his wife and daughters are alive and apparently doing well...
It's always tragic when one loses a family member, but it must seem doubly so when they're lost during this time of year :distress:

when i heard this today i almost cried, it's so awful for those poor little girls who don't have a father now. :distress: and i can't imagine how his wife must feel, to know that he was trying to save them all. if he had stayed with them, it would have turned out fine. such a horrible horrible tragedy. :(

That is so sad. When are people going to learn, that you don't take romote, snowy, winding roads, through the mountains in the middle of winter, with your family of two small children in a "car", not a 4 wheel drive SUV. Without the proper winter gear and emergency supplies. I know he took a wrong turn and apparently the map they had was old and the road was not marked as "closed in the winter" but wouldn't common sense tell you to turn around. I mean, he had a responsibility as a father  I know we all make mistakes but this kind of thing has happened many, many times before. Don't people learn from other people's mistakes

I'm guessing because they were from San Francisco, they were just terribly unprepared? This is such a sad story to me- and <a href="http://www.cnn.com/video/partners/clickability/index.html?url=/video/us/2006/12/06/sot.or.missing.man.presser.kptv ">this</a> just killed me. So, so sad.

So very tragic, especially after the great news of finding the rest of the family just a couple of days ago.
Yeah, he may have not have been the smartest driver on the road at that time but he sure was a hero.
He has left a wonderful legacy for his children.
I suppose there is no "easier" time for things like this.
May he rest in peace and may his family find their own peace.

I havent really figured out how they ended up where they ended up.
they took a route they didnt normally take and instead of turning around and getting back on the right road, they decided to take a chance. Man thats risky with all them logging roads and forest service roads and whatnot....Especially in snow!!

I read that they missed the exit they were supposed to take - so they looked at a map and saw that some other road would take them where they needed to be...

What a really sad day. CNet is one block from where I work in San Francisco. There were so many people outside in tears. It was just a heartbreaking scene. :( How many of us have taken road trips and have gotten lost on the way? I'm sure plenty of us. It could happen to anyone. I don't know what else this man could have done. He stayed with his family for days before made that difficult decision to find help. Save your family or watch them waste away? I think he is a hero for trying to save his family.
In case anyone would like to donate to the family, the family has set up a memorial fund (http://www.jamesandkati.com).

It is a very sad situation. He is considered a hero in my eyes and so is his wife for doing what she could to keep herself and her children alive until help arrived.
