Whoever loves sophisticated romantic comedies shouldn't miss it IMO. It's brilliantly written, very well directed and beautifully acted especially on the Kate Winslet - Jack Black part. Cameron Diaz- Jude Law couple is a bit more calculated and less invoving (at least for me, but it's a matter of taste), anyway, it works too. And Eli Wallach is just perfect. Besides, there's one of the funniest cameos from a very famous actor (I don't want to spoil the surprise) ever seen. Oh, and there's Lindsay Lohan too in another nice and wisely short appearance.

He's fantastic in this film, really, and found a beautiful chemistry with Winslet. I'm more and more impressed by him. After you've seen it, please let me know what you think.

Oh I don't mind him - I was just surprised to see him in a film like this, he tends to play similar characters....so I am WAY curious to see him in this..and I LOVE Kate Winslet so that alone will draw me to see this - I hadn't heard anything at all about so I'm glad you posted your review...

It's nice to hear a Ledgie recommend this movie. It's been on my "must see" list since I saw the trailer online a few months ago. I'm not a huge Diaz fan, but she's pretty good. Like D said, I love Kate.

I'm not at all a fan of Cameron Diaz...I actually loathed her for some time then grew to tolerate her through Charlie's Angels...but my love for Kate is stronger than my dislike for Diaz...so I'm way excited to see this...

There's Something About Mary is about it for me....I can't think of another movie I like with her as the star.

Kate is fantastic in everything she does. Titanic was on TV about a week ago and was blown away by her performance (hadn't seen it since the 90s). I saw Finding Neverland for the first time about a month ago. I didn't like it at all, except for the scenes with Kate. :D

Yea! Another non-Titanic hater! Oh I just adore her...have you seen Heavenly Creatures? I believe it's her first film..it's one of my favorites  I watched Eternal Sunshine last weekend...she's definitely becoming one of my favorite actresses

The only parts I don't care for are the scenes with Bill Paxton. Why did they cast Paxon?

And can I get a "hell yeah" for the beauty that is Billy Zane?

Rock on, I love Kate and JB, especially after School of Rock! I am really looking forward to seeing this film too. Thanks for the headsup on it.

Oh hell yeah. I didn't even see it until I saw some interview with him because his character is so hate-worthy. I mean I saw it but not fully.

Oh yeah..Billy Zane is gorgeous  His character is an ass - but he's so fun to quote..

"ooh Rose is displeased...what to do what to do..."

I thought it was pure cheese, but enjoyable enough.
Kate Winslet's house in it was hilarious - it looked like it should have been in a snow globe! We snickered every time it came on screen, so funny! The Britain I know does not really look the front of a Christmas card (apparently only 40 minutes from central London - yeah right!)
I really, really hate Jude Law and this movie didn't help change my mind but Kate Winslet is as lovely as ever - I love her.

I must be living under a rock because I didn't even know this movie came out yet. Kate Winslet is like my favorite actress in Hollywood today. She's fantastic, I enjoy her in every film she's been in, and she's stunningly gorgeous as well. And I love Jack Black as well. The other two really do nothing for me, except I kind of liked C. Diaz in "In her Shoes." I really can't stand Jude Law. He's just a pretty face and completely vapid in every other category for me.

But I'm going to see it!!! For Kate alone.

The way he calls her Sweet Pea, ew.

Hah...stupid Cal. Actually one of my favorite lines to quote from this movie (I'm such a dork) is "Ya gonna cut her meat for her too there,Cal?" :p

Anyway - The Holiday isn't opening here until the 8th...so I won't be going to see that this weekend..but now I wanna see a movie so I think I'll catch For Your Consideration :D

I can't stand him much either but the crying thing was nice. Kate Winslet is getting film by film one of the strongest screen personalities around. And It's great to see her in comedies. I didn't find it particularly cheesy (except the Law - Diaz part) and there's also a subtle satire about Hollywood. Not a masterpiece but an intelligent and funny film

I agree about Kate Winslet's house, It looked to me a bit like the one in Random Harvest.

Thanks for this review. I *have* been under a rock the last few months so I have heard nothing of it. I'll chime in as a Kate-Adorer. And people actually hate The Titanic? Loved it.

Anyway, 3 more days until this semester is over- then a full month of freedom. I will drag my husband to this movie.

Yee!!!! I know more people who seriously hate Titanic..I had no clue there were Ledgies who liked it - I'd gone underground with my Titanic love after too many bouts of ridicule

I like the film...it's nice to be able to admit it :p

:p Just kidding, I don't mind the song, it was my high school graduation song actually  It's not one of my favorites, but I'll admit that when I hear it on the radio I belt it out right there with Celine
