I got a fabulous suit today for my intern interview. It's a deep chocolate brown with teeny light pink pin stripes. Anyway, the skirt is kind of short, so I'm going to wear brown tights. My question is, what is the style of shoe one wears with this type of skirt? Are pumps still in and if so, pointy, round, or square toed? Any help is greatly appreciated- I need to go find some shoes ASAP!

Platform Reeboks go with everything and are comfortable while also being fashionably hideous. :p
Once again, I'm of no help. :sorry:

It does sound like a neat suit..I LOVE browns...

The skirt is kind of short, but not Britney-ish. And tights will help. Plus, if I don't wear underwear, maybe I'll get the job???
Oh, and let me just say that this suit was brand new, with tags saying $90 and I got it for $8.

You rang??:p
You're bang on with the tights - that's the best thing to werar if a skirt is a bit on the short side. Might I suggest a cute rounded toe pump, also in a chocolate brown? It'll go with much of your existing wardrobe as it acts as a neutral, but the brown on brown will make your legs look like they go on forever. Rounded toes with tapered heels are everywhere right now so you should have no problem finding them. Kitten heels are great because they're sexy without being uncomfortable.
Whatever you do, don't let anyone tell you you can wear booties (ankle boots)with tights/skirt combo. I don't care what anyone says, the only type of boots worn with a skirt should go to the knee, but I don't know if you want to be that daring.
Flats could work in theory but you'll run the risk of looking like you're 5.
Update us with what you find!!!

The suit sounds like it has a retro 40's feel. I would say round toe or peep toe, possibly platform, pumps, with very subtle or no detailing (not to conflict with the pinstripe) bows, etc. There are a lot of beautiful pumps like this right now, but of course some of them are too high, or maybe to sexy for an interview. Also, I remember you said you have back problems, so the trick would be to find these sort of shoes with a mid heel, and lots of cushion.
this one is too high, and I think the croc stamp is wrong, but sort of what I mean (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2901866/0~2376778~2372808~2372940~2380486?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=2380486&P=3)
breaking my own rule on the detailing, because this is a cute shoe (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2902474/0~2376778~2372808~2372940~2372941?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=2372941&P=6)
a sensible, versatile option (http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/18632510/c/21464.html)

i think you made the right choice with the brown, esp. because of your dark hair - i think black might be too harsh.

It could be worn with nothing underneath, but I'm thinking I want to bring out the pink a little. Maybe a tight turtleneck or something.

no, I agree. brown is a good choice. especially with the pink stripes. I think that's actually better than black for you. I don't think boots will be any worse than anything else. let me look for some pics of what I'd suggest. hold them horsies.

Jason, Jason- for the love of GOD do you really think I would wear anything like that last pair? I know I wore overalls a little longer than some, but please.
Actually, that second pair is the same as the pair ragandbone showed me [EDIT: No, it isn't]. I may have to go with that style- I can't afford to go buy a new pair of boots right now. Although that pair you showed is gorgeous.

If you're going the tights route, then you can definitely do a round-toe, so long as the shoes and tights are relatively the same color. I, personally, can never do round-toe pumps with nude tights. It makes the leg look short and stumpy and gives a hoof-like appearance, in my opinion. If the tights (opaque tights = love) and shoe are the same color, it creates a long silhouette. You could also probably do a cute flat with thick tights of the same color, but make sure the flat isn't so high-cut that there is no "toe cleavage."
Now, pointed toe heels can be worn with nude tights, since the pointy toe elongates the leg and it's rather slimming. I've got a pair of pointed toe stillettoes which I think I would die without.
Square toes bother me to an extent, but square heels? No thx.
Yeah, I know. I watch the Isaac Mizrahi show too much.

Myself, I would have absolutely no problem at all with the knee high boot, but that is a personal style/preference thing. The rounded toe mid/heel is the probably the best option. But I love boots. I have more boots than God.

I adore boots as well. Thing is, besides my military-style combat boots and my platform hooker boots, the only ones I own are gogo boots:

I love my boots, and I have them all lined up on the top shelf of the closet, where I can admire them. I have even saved boots from high school.

However, I have one question: when you say "tights" in the US, you don't mean something like unfooted tight trousers, right? Does it mean a thicker pantyhose?:o

Is it more common to wear pantyhose than tights at work? I usually wear tights (that is more than 40 Den), I feel more comfortable in them. However, I have a feeling that they look less formal somehow.

Okay, this has nothing to do with Homegirl's shoe dilemma. But it is a fashion thing. I was headed to a party Saturday night, and stopped by the store. I was in line with my la dee da prepared deli foods and beer.
There was this woman in front of me. About 60ish. She was done up in a pretty snazzy ensemble. She had a longish ash blonde pageboy cut. An olivey green/emerald kind of two tone silk organza asian looking jacket with those kind of kimono buttons. Her top was a darker green slightly glittery knit thing.
Under this she had on a two layered black chiffon skirt that hit about mid calf. The base of all this was sheer black stockings and some high heeled sleek little slingbacky kind of shoes. There was some greeny kind of accent on them. Just conservative enough for her age, but a little snap to the whole thing. Oh, and she had some filigreed kind of jade drop earrings and matching necklace that was a bit oversized. I totally checked her out and thought she really had a cool thing going on.
Imagine my horror and shock when she went to walk away and hauled a battered looking, scratched up 30 year old brown leather purse off the counter! It look like she had mugged the pony express. It belonged hanging off the ass end of a dusty horse. It was a fu*king saddlebag and just as big. I usually don't even notice **** like that but it was a fashion tragedy. I was dying to run up and steal her purse, just to save her from the humiliation of dragging that tragic sack into her fancy cocktail party.
