Definitely Love Shines!
I've always liked Chris' (and all of them really) more rocking material.

Hmm... tough call since I love them both, but I have to go with "Heart Of Stone."
I wish Fleetwood Mac would have done more with Patrick Leonard.

I like both of these songs, but I like "Love Shines" better. It's one of my favorite CM songs. I agree with Johnny Stew. I wish Chris & Fleetwood Mac had made an entire album with Patrick Leonard. I think it would have been far, far better than Greg Ladanyi & Behind The Mask. Both of those songs on the box set have a real Fleetwood Mac feel to them & Chris' keyboards are very prominent on both songs, which I love.
And, I LOVE the "Love Shines" video with Chris, Mick, John & Billy.

my preference for one over the other isn't very strong, but i'd have to say 'heart of stone' by the slightest of margins.

They're both really good songs! I like Love Shines a bit more--but only by a bit. They seem like great companion pieces.

Neither. They both suck for Christine tunes. Let's face it- they're both just average songs.
I much prefer "Over and Over" or "Why" or any other Tusk song. And "Only Over You" and "Isn't It Midnight" are way, way better.

Whereas I think Over and Over is a snooze fest and Heart of Stone is one of my top 3 Christine songs. It really gets to me. Love Shines beats over and over, too. It's nice when Christine goes faster than Christine usually goes.

See, that's odd, Homie- I never really got "Love Shines" all that much. Another odd Christine thing-- I have a thing for "One More Night", but most people seem to not like it. Same thing with "Only Over You"- I worship that one, but most people are  .

I think these two songs are okay and I listen to them every now and then. But, they remind me of CM's departure from the old sound into this new crisp vocal thing that I never really took to, though I like her TITN stuff and Nights in Estoril. In the end and to me, CM is brilliant, but her post Mirage path was not as good as her older stuff like Why.
Note - I love CM and am not in any way slamming her!!!!!!!
AND - Towie - I LOVE One More Lonely Night and chuckle eveytime La Nicks comes in off key in the "down again" part

^^
For me, the line "and wouldn't you like to be the one hooooooooooolding her tight" is just killer in delivery and that makes the song cool to me.

"Love Shines," if for no other reason than for the line "On and on it will always be, the rhythm, rhyme, and harmony" (my VERY first sig way back in the alt.music.fleetwood-mac days.) Perfect way to describe Fleetwood Mac.

I pulled out my copy of The Chain to listen to the two. They both have great vocals, and I like them both very much, but I'll give my vote to "Heart of Stone." I like the keyboards and the general arrangement, and I think the song has a nice, varied structure as it goes along. It has a great hook. I think it's a musically more interesting song than "Love Shines."
I also like the completely unrelated song by Bob Welch called "Heart of Stone." I think it's on one of his Paris albums.

I've only got the 2 singles from the Chain boxset, and there are two 'new' (at the time) songs on them: Love Shines (of Christine) and Paper Doll (of Stevie). So I don't remember ever having listened to Heart Of Stone.
Therefore the vote must go to Love Shines. And a brilliant song it surely is.
My car has a single permanent CD -- it's the Australian two CD version of 25 Years of the Chain. And the only song it is permanently set on -- so I hear it every morning on my drive to work -- is "Love Shines."

None. I don't like any Christine song (in Fleetwood Mac) since AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOW, her last beautiful song

"One More Night" is probably my least favorite Christine song ever.
I'd like it if it went somewhere. It has a decent verse and a bridge to a chorus that never happens. Instead of innovating, it merely repeats those two parts over and over.
My least favorie song is actually a god one--"Morning Rain." I just hate her vocal performance on it. What were the band thinking using that take!

They did an early version of "Morning Rain" on the BBC. That one was better than the album version.

I really like "Heart of Stone" but "Love Shines" outshines nearly all of her Rumours/post-Rumours lineup work.
"Why" still kicks its ass though

Brother Brown, you hit the nail ON THE HEAD. I love the way Love Shines goes from minor key for the verses, to major key for the choruses. Just like YMLF.

Homer,
When I first got that boxed set and listened to "Love Shines" I was blown away by what I thought was the Mac's return to its blues/rock roots. With a quartet consisting of Mick, John, Christine and Billy, I thought they might tour smaller, more intimate venues. Sadly, that was not to be.

Sadly, I think Mick(or his finances) find it necessary to go with the lowest common denominator.:(

That was a missed opportunity, in my opinion. I would have loved an album with that line-up, produced by Patrick Leonard. Both of Chris' new songs on that box set sounded fantastic!
