What the hell happened to them? I went in last night and it looks like a second hand store. Everything is sloppy looking. It all looks like its already been worn and the colors are so drab. Bring back SJP and the fabulousness they used to be! Jeez.

Oh except Gap Body, that stuff rocks.

amen. I used to love The Gap, but for one they got way too damn expensive. I mean, it's The Gap, not Banana Republic, you know? second, like you said, the clothes are rank. I haven't shopped there in a long time. except for socks and dress pants.

I used to love The Gap because the clothes were inexpensive and lasted forever - I still have t-shirts I bought in 1990

Now, that is not the case. Having said that, their jeans fit my a$$ like a glove and they go on sale cometimes for like $15.

I've never been able to fit Gap jeans either. But then, I don't do designer clothing. However, my daughter is starting to get into it. That sucks in the wallet!

Go to overstock.com, ebay, and stores like off5th (the Sak's outlet) -- if times right - you can save like 70%. Also, Marshall's, Simm's, and T.J. Maxx are great as well!!!!

I love The Gap. :o

Because they've clearly changed everything for you, it's apparently the high school/college kids they're going for and nothing more.

The jeans fit me well too but the current line is thinner than their past jeans. Yep, the denim is lighter. And ALL of them have distressed parts. I like a wash but I don't need those lines from my crotch to my hip accentuating said parts.

I also used to love the Gap. Someone gave me a gift card to the Gap a year and a half ago and I still haven't used it. I always go into the Gap hoping I will find something I really like only to be disappointed. Everything is just so blah there. I don't hate the clothes but nothing excites me either.

Do the Gaps near you have a Gap Body section? Their PJs, robes, and lingerie are great.

The Gap...I've never really been a huge fan (because I could never afford it  ) But oddly whenever I see one I go in  And you're right - the clothes have really gone down hill..they're not that much higher up than Old Navy anymore...

That said, the perfume/lotion I like is from Gap - Sueded Musk...LOVE it...since I love it so much though I'm guessing they'll discontinue it any day now.

Every once in awhile, I find something cute in the GAP to wear. I've found a few cute grandpa sweaters this season, which I will be sporting in Vegas. However, I hate that their clothes are so drab. Giving 'em a little bit of color would make a world of difference.

Ooooh, send it to me!

Gap jeans are the only jeans that fit me. I don't know why. I love them!! They run big I think...but I have no problem with that :)
I haven't been to the Gap in a couple of months...but their fall line was disappointing except for the jeans...which I bought a pair.

I like their perfume too...Pink and Dreams are my FAVORITE.

things i love about the gap:

- i know what size i am there. their sizes are consistent. i never try things on. they always just fit.

- the jeans. they go on sale. they're massively cheap. got a pair for $20 a few weeks ago - get more compliments on them than any of my others.

- the built-in support bra type tank tops. love. them. in the summer, they're all i wear.

- the basics - you know you can get 'em anytime. black pants. white shirt. every colour tee, long sleeve or short.

that being said... i shop there less and less. though, i really think it's because i'm getting too old for it. :( i must say, i did buy THE greatest black cotton knit cardigan at a gap in london this past summer - it looks and feels like cashmere. never saw it at a canadian gap. i wear it far more often than i should. but most of my wardrobe now comes from banana republic. further proof, i may just be getting old. :o

I am probably going to get flamed for this, but I have always considered Banana Republic to be the place where uninspired straight white guys go to look like they are making an effort. It's brainlessly stylish and sophisticated, yet totally conservative. I dunno... maybe living in NYC and seeing a bajillion of these metrosexual-wannabe straight guys walking around in their BR finest makes me a bit jaded. :sorry:

I like the Gap's red line too. Love Banana but the one in Boston did not have anything in dressy blouses. Seriously, not a single one so I had to go to Ann Taylor Loft. I've never met a straight male employee at that Banana. :D

We did already discuss this issue at length here I believe. I thought they had cleaned up their act. So it isn't that I don't care, quite the contrary, just that I am already well aware of the issue and have made my choices accordingly.

Most? Really? As compared to whom? Anyway, that's a bold statement, and one that might be a tad over-generalized.

It might be, but I don't think it is. Compared to whom? I wasn't really comparing to anyone, just looking at our qualities in themselves.
Also, I wasn't talking about you. But seriously, say if I took "most" to mean at least 60% of people. Roughly. I think what I said would easily apply.

America does consume a huge percentage of resources, and our society is capitalist based, very much. We think buying things is important. And so I, like Fur, think that people caring more about talking about their clothes than how those clothes got to them is a "f*cked up priority". Of the type that most Americans share. I'm not necessarily talking about this thread, BTW, before everyone leaps to defend themselves.

Of course, my statement is based on what I think f*cked up priorities are. If you don't share my view of that, then my statement holds little to no truth for you. Perhaps a much smaller percentage of Americans would have what you consider to be f*cked up priorities.
So, basically, I'm not wrong or right, it just depends on your viewpoint. :woohoo:
