View Full Version : Superficial things that piss you off....

So I realize there are bigger problems in the world. I mean right now I have a friend whose mother has just been informed that cancer that was once in remission has now spread to her brain...
Ledgies have big problems...
Children are starving...
Yet - do have you have these little superficial problems that pop up and piss you off...therefore making you feel like an ass for putting so much negative energy into something stupid?
Case is point.
I work late...when I get off work it's dark and the area is deserted. I have to park in the farthest lot away because that's the only space that was available when I was hired...
I have to walk all the way over there by myself every night..it's a bit freaky but whatever..
So today I was informed that there is a parking space closer to the building open - like right next to the building. Our HR lady asked if I was interested and I of course said, "YES!"
Well then she informs me that two others are interested as well -1. a reporter who works out of DENVER and is NEVER here...she comes in maybe once a month..IF that....
2. a guy..an ex-military guy who's a runner - and he leaves at a normal time...
Now...I've plead my case, I'm here alone, it's dark, it's far and I have to walk there alone...nope they still want the space....
So we're having a drawing tomorrow...but it pisses me off...they give the morning host a close space - because he gets here when it's dark deserted and he's alone..so why do I not get the same consideration???
Anyway....just had to blow off some steam....

That would bug me too. Is there any way you could have someone walk you to your car at night? That would worry me. Anyway, I hope you get the parking spot, damnit.

Just wanted to comment on your issue .. they should totally give you that space. That is completely messed up if they don't. HR lady needs to make an executive decision here. A "drawing" is so bogus. I'd make a fuss about it if I were you. Or can you ask for a security escort back to your car at night?
DrummerDeanna
11-30-2006, 07:09 PM
There is no security around....I'm the only one in the building as far as I can tell, and when I leave there is really just no one around...now the police station is just a block down the street...hmmm.
Yeah - I was trying to avoid making a fuss - but this is such crap - oh and I just found out that the gal from Denver actually did drop out - she doesn't want the spot - so now I'm just in contention with the guy....
I talked to the HR lady today, told her my concerns...and she was all apologetic when she said the dude still wanted the space - I guess because he has tenure and I don't he still gets to be in the race...ugh.
So annoying...

I think you should just make it a big problem. Like, tell them that when you get mugged/raped/kidnapped/knifed/stuffed in a trunk because you had to park far away, then it'll be a big problem. Maybe you'll get the space then. Good luck! :D
Personally, I'd throw a fit until I got my way. ;) :p

I think you need to go to Mr. Runner directly and shame his ass for not giving you the spot. Do it in the sweetest, politest way possible of course.

I agree with Jase... make a stink about it, and tell them that if you get mugged or worse, then it's going to cost the company a whole hell of a lot of money that they could've saved themselves simply by giving you a closer parking space.
(I've been in a "trying to appeal to people's sense of decency or fairness gets you nowhere -- if you want to change something, be militant about it" kind of mood lately.)

Thanks guys...the HR lady left early today for a massage...she told me all this right before leaving..so while she had a relaxing massage I sat at work at stewed.
I tried to joke with the un-chivalrous guy..saying I was going to stuff the ballot box etc....and judging by his reaction and the fact that he avoided me like the plague all afternoon I think he knows he's being an ass.
Still I have a 50/50 chance...so hopefully things will just roll in my direction and I won't have to worry about it....though I still think that when the damn space opened up it should have been a given who it goes to

I'd f'in walk into a doorjam tonight. Then I would show up tomorrow with a black eye. They would be worried I was attacked. I would whimper that I thought someone was hiding in the bush, ready for attack, and as I began to sprint to my vehicle, I turned to see what I thought I heard - footsteps chasing me - and then I fell flat on my face...hence the black eye. :wavey:

 actually...and I'm not kidding..that sort of happend last night...it's all snowy and icy -and I swear I heard footsteps and what sounds like key jingling..so I turned around...nothing.....
Well as I was approaching my car - while being vigilant of my surroundings - I totally lost my footing and slipped on the ice...no black eye to show for it though - only a really sore knee....
But I like the way you think...!

I totally lost my footing and slipped on the ice...no black eye to show for it though - only a really sore knee.... start scratching...we want a redness for tomorrow...maybe a little hammerwork for swelling.
If they then don't release that space to you, they are the devil.

I'll start working on that :p
Yeah - I'm going to be very pissed off if I don't get that space - although I'm fairly certain I could get it if I bitch enough - then I'll be known as the girl who bitches until she gets her way...I don't so much want that...I'm just crossing my fingers and praying that I get that space...

unless you bitch about everything (which i'm sure is not the case, or the parking space wouldn't be an issue), you won't be known as the girl who b.u.s.g.h.w. ... and even if you are, who cares? you gotta do what you gotta do.

I'm just crossing my fingers and praying that I get that space... Well, I wouldn't settle... You mentioned there is no security at night. Is there one during the day? If so, I would speak to an 'officer' on the last shift, letting him/her know of your concerns and HR's current stance. Perhaps the security side of company could influence HR especially since the concerns are safety/security-related. Good luck. :wavey:
DrummerDeanna
12-01-2006, 02:09 AM
As far as I've seen there is no security during the day either - it's a pretty low key area...even though there is a bank in my building..I've never seen any security-related people around
Sigh...I've lived with the far space this long I can keep doing it - what I've been doing though is when I have a long break from being on-air I run down to the lot and move my car close to the building...but management doesn't so much like people leaving the studio when they're on-air...but oh well I tell them I'm not walking to my car alone at night when I get off the air....
Still it'd be nice to not have to worry about that every day...

is this superficial?~ i run a home daycare open 6 am - 5 pm, it used to close at 6 pm, but people believe it or not wouldn't come get their kids, so i had to close sooner hoping that would make them come when they are supposed to, i even started charging a late fee of 5 bucks per every 5 minutes you're late, i made 100.00 off of 1 guy~ but they keep doing it~ i had 1 lady a few yrs back who i had to let go because she always forgot her kid, i know, i know, but i swear, it would be like 8 at night & she was no where to be found~ people forget their kids?, it is so beyond me:shrug: ~

when i worked at an after school center, we had parents who would forget their kids, too! it was so sad - it was always the kids with behavior problems, too, and you could totally see WHY those kids were acting out. :distress:

we had a before-school program too, and we opened at 6 ... we would have people showing up at 5:45 to drop their kids off "just because" ... wtf.

Gee, I can't figure out what would cause you to feel that way. You really do have to fight for everything these days it seems.
Although yesterday I got very lucky and my car passed inspection. The guy was on his own so he did not test my brakes or he would know one light was out. I just found this out and did not have time to change it since I already had the car in the shop last week. I figured it would fail anyway cuz my headlights are pushed in and point up instead of straight ahead. I had an accident a long time ago which did this. My mechanic tried to fix them last week but he just managed to separate the light so the left side one was dangling by wires when it fell out on my way home. So that is now taped into place. No not with duct tape, with packing tape! Still, it passed. I really can't believe it.

No - the daycare problem is not superficial...that situation sucks. And parents forgetting their kids? That's awful...that happened to me once (though she didn't forget me - got held up somewhere) and it was the WORST feeling in the world...I can still remember it all so clearly as if it happened yesterday - so it's no wonder those kids have problems :distress:

Me too...I was all nervous walking into work this morning....and in the elevator I was thinking that if I didn't get it that I shouldn't let it ruin my day...and put me in a sour mood - I was trying to build a defense for that - thankfully I didn't need it...

Ok. So I just found out that the guy didn't just give it up to be nice.
He's PISSED. I guess he and the HR lady had it out today...he feels the space should be given according to seniority (something I did think about) and I guess when he found out there was a "drawing" he got mad and dropped out and then he and the HR lady got into it...
So I feel slightly bad but not really. What a mess...over a parking space  I'm glad that's all I have to worry about in life
