So I have to stop using Opera because the website only accepts Internet Explorer, and then they tell me to install Adobe Player and a new form of DRM. After this hassle I get treated with a cheap looking performance with Little Big Town pretending to be all cheery and happy and singing a homogenous, passionless chorus with Lindsey's technically flawed vocals completely removed from the mix (except for the "go your own way/another lonely day" yelps that follow).

Me not happy. http://www.neworderonline.com/Forums/Images/Smilies/nonono2.gif I still have interest in the entire show but this clip ain't too promising.

Gee Gauis my ears must be losing some sophistication. I think that is one of the better performances of Go Your Own Way in a long time. The harmonies are better than anything Fleetwood Mac has produced on Go Your Own Way in 25 years and certainly better than anything since '88.

The performance was good and was a more organic, more accesible Lindsey, that was closer to mid-late 70's mac than we have gotten From LB and the mac in a while. Of course it was a lower key than back then...but hey everything changes.

Buckingham teams with Little Big Town for Country Music Television’s ‘Crossroads’

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Internal romances and breakups, backbiting, drug-fueled excesses — Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham could write the book on what tears bands apart.

With that, he has some sage advice for the country quartet Little Big Town: keep communication open.

“We never really had peace and closure,” Buckingham said of Fleetwood Mac, whose internal drama was a constant backdrop to their music in the 1970s and ’80s. “It was all about deferring and walling up our emotions and living in various states of denial.”

Buckingham, who spoke by phone recently from his Los Angeles home, joins Little Big Town for an episode of Country Music Television’s popular “Crossroads” show, which airs 9 p.m. EST Saturday.

The show teams country acts with artists from other genres, from Elton John and Ryan Adams to John Mayer and Brad Paisley.

This pairing was more obvious than most. Little Big Town drew immediate comparisons to Fleetwood Mac when they broke onto the country charts with “Boondocks” and “Bring It On Home.”

With a mix of men and women, lush harmonies and a 1970s pop sensibility, the similarities are striking. Like Fleetwood Mac, the quartet — Kimberly Roads, Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook — also co-write their songs and trade off on lead vocals.

Sweet, 32, said that although they have many influences, the Fleetwood Mac imprint is undeniable.

“It would be hard to have grown up in the era that we did and not be influenced by Fleetwood Mac,” he said. “They were such a powerful force musically. They had a unique sound, a unique brand so to speak. I loved to hear Christine sing and then Stevie sing and then Lindsey sing.”

Sweet is referring, of course, to Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks and Buckingham — the group’s principal writers and singers.

They had a long run of rock and pop hits like “Rhiannon,” “Go Your Own Way” and “Little Lies” before the classic lineup unraveled in the late ’80s.

Over the years, they’ve reformed in various reincarnations to record and tour. Buckingham, a gifted guitarist as well as songwriter and producer, released his fourth solo disc, “Under the Skin,” in October.

Meanwhile, Little Big Town have had their own ups and downs. They were dropped by Mercury and Sony before finally landing on the independent label Equity Music Group. Along the way, Westbrook’s father died, Sweet and Fairchild went through divorces, Roads’ husband died of a heart attack, and Westbrook and Fairchild were married.

“We never said ‘I don’t think this is going to work — let’s quit,”’ Roads said. “It seems that when one was down the other three would carry them along.

“Lindsey said that that is one of the things he noticed about our band,” she said. “We get along and admire and love each other.”

Buckingham, 57, spent a few days hanging out with the group in Nashville before taping the special in October.

When CMT first contacted him with the idea, he was hesitant. “My initial attitude was ’How do I fit into this? Does it really work on an integrity level?”’

Then he listened to their music and heard the parallels.

“It was not some unholy alliance in terms of being such a stretch,” Buckingham said. “And the funny thing was, once I got there I had a ball.”

When Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham teamed up with the country group Little Big Town for "CMT Crossroads," the veteran guitar player/singer tells us, he was able to use his own experience of dating bandmate Stevie Nicks to give advice to the younger band. "Obviously I can relate to a situation where there are two women and two men. With Little Big Town, half of it is a couple," he points out. "One of the things that was probably difficult in Fleetwood Mac is that you had these two couples who were breaking up. It's not what Little Big Town is doing, obviously," adds Buckingham. "We were kind of forced to push through. Stevie and I never really got the closure we needed. I don't think John and Christine McVie got the closure they needed, so we were working in a semi-dysfunctional situation for years," he explains. "All I said to Little Big Town was, 'You've got the potential to be friends and to have the camaraderie that in many ways Fleetwood Mac never really had the chance to enjoy.' Maybe we're starting to get to that point now because we've done albums and tours and will continue to do that."

Besides connecting on a personal level, Buckingham says he was happy with his and the group's performance together, which airs tomorrow (12/2) on CMT. "The good news and the bad news about 'Crossroads' is that there is no one format. You've had things that were very comfortable like Steve Earle and Rosanne Cash, and then, to me, things that were not comfortable like Ray Charles and Travis Tritt. So it was like where are we going to fall with this? But I was very pleased with how we meshed together."

I'm really glad I found out about this. Enjoyed it a lot.

One thing I really appreciated while watching it is the variety of what he plays.

Yes, I did just say that. . . .

(I think he changes his "interpretation" of his songs a lot - the details of what he plays each time - and that it's harder than it looks to do that.)

I also felt it was clear that he and the others had a lot of fun. And, you know Lindsey - "This is so much fun, I love it when things are so simple and innocent and fun like this!" can be interpreted as saying Certain Things about Certain People in between the lines. He's just GOTTA stir the pot, and I love 'im for it!

It was something new and different - definately a great move on both parts!. I'd love to get that show on DVD or CD - I have it on Tivo - does anyone know how to burn that to a DVD? I am clueless about that. I hope they release it on CD- I checked Itunes hoping it would be on there but no luck but am downloading some LBT songs now.

I thought LB doing "Bring it on Home" with them was amazing!!!! I want that as a new single!

Watched this morning... Liked it alot! And yeah, their contribution on Not Too Late was modest, but very nice.

He sounded good on that other song (can't recall the name), but he sang most of it himself... it was one of theirs. And The Chain was excellent... Sounded very full vocally.

Just wandered over to LBT's message board. Overall, pretty positive, but mostly them talking about how wonderful LBT was. A few people said Lindsey was incredible and someone asked what the names of Lindsey's songs were.

One person said that LB annoyed them. Another couple said that he's a fantastic guitar player, but they didn't care for his voice. Fair enough. Someone was not happy that Lindsey did Big Love alone...said it wasn't fair to LBT. I agree and wish he hadn't done it, but whatareyagonnado?

Oh and Big Love over there is called Looking Out for Love. Heh.

an entertaining show for sure.

but i'm continually perplexed by the mass appeal for all of this startlingly unoriginal "country" music that seems to be EVERYWHERE these days.

LBT certainly have talent, but they can't seem to write a single unique song.
Every song sounds like something else I've heard - 30 years ago.

But that's OK. Just my 2 cents.

I guess I'm always on the hunt for the next Lucinda Williams or Townes Van Zandt.

Hmmm, I didn't like it that much. Oh it was cool to see they had a blast and the ending of the chain and all of GYOW were a party, but I heard some great harmonies in very flat songs that were too much ripp offs from seventiespoprockbands. And lindsey nearly harmonized with them on their songs, which was a pity because like in the Chain and GYOW those harmonies were blistering.

The ending of Big Love starting with the new-fangled high note is getting more disgusting by the performance. And yet it becomes more and more intruiging and I can't look away!

I also have to say that he will probably never hear that much applause for Not Too Late again in his lifetime. Unless he busts it out at an arena Fleetwood Mac show. How freaky to hear a song like that, and one that has only been played in tiny venues, get such a response!

It was more like, Lindsey just couldn't understand why the rest of the band didn't want to do things his way ;)

 I'm sick of that pose!!!!! Every. damn. song. You and me both. I felt like going through the monitor, grabbing his collar and shakinghim, screaming "Linds, baby, new moves, new poses, new clothes and new speeches! For the love of God, do us all a favor!"

But I didn't cause I love him too much. :xoxo:

Well, sorry girls, but it's no rehearsed pose, like Stevie's airguitar or drumrolls. It's a neurotic spasm. I don't know which is worse.

He's a neurotic personality. He WANTS to be spontane, but he can't....only while playing.....when his muse takes over.

Yikes, I just got to see this and I agree that Lindsey looks as if he is having spasms while he is singing. I think that Lindsey was trying way too hard to get into their music but he was not actually feeling it. He needs to take a chill pill for sure. Either that or a laxative.
Oh and Lindsey with his "Not Too Late" explanation was kind of odd. I liked the part where the blond guy look at Lindsey like "ok is it that hard and complicated to have kids?"

Ok, I finallly got to watch this in its entirety (on-line) and I have to saw, I love it  LBT really do sound like FM and I like that. I'm going out tomorrow and getting their cd. Their up for a grammy for best country album (against the Chicks  ). I think Lindsey really enjoyed doing it. LBT were just staring at him, like he was some sort of legend guitar god (and so they should be). Could have done without Big Love, but oh well, it's like Stevie's "Edge" I guess. Overall good show, diffinetly one for the video libary

I got a copy of Crossroads and I watched it about 4 times over the holidays and LB's vocals sound soooooo good on "Bring It On Home". The song is perfect for him. I love it. Man he really rocks out on the Chain too. Refresh my memory, does he do it like that with FM?

I am way behind, but I just saw this special this weekend while I was home for Christmas. My brother and his girlfriend are country fans, including Little Big Town, and my brother happened to have a DVD of this lying around and suggested I check it out. I admit, I'm not really a country fan at all, but damn, was I sold immediately. I'm sure Lindsey's presence had a good bit to do with why I liked it so much, but the whole sound just made me so happy. I can't remember the last time I sat watching something and felt so immediately into it, it was probably actually The Dance. I thought Lindsey sounded great on the Little Big Town songs, especially "Boondocks" (my favorite) and "Bring It On Home" and that LBT sounded fabulous on "The Chain" and "Go Your Own Way". And yeah, he was spazzy, but how often do we see Lindsey singing while his hands have nothing to do? Apparently his hands really don't know what to do! I also thought he was really into the music, like when the band would be singing and he'd be behind them playing, and even a few times, the song would end and he'd slap hands, I thought it was completely genuine and it looked like he was having an awesome time playing with them. Only some of the interview segments seemed a little forced or unnatural, but still, I was really impressed with the whole thing. Now I'm all about finding out more about Little Big Town and hope Lindsey continues to collaborate like this in the future!
