So I was watching the very last episode (movie) of one of my favorite tv series and I got to thinking about show enders.
What are some of your favorites? Which ones disapointed you etc...
I was watching the Little House on the Prairie ender  I love it - it's so dramatic - I mean they BLOW UP the entire town...andI guess I love the little trivia fact that they did actually blow up the sets of the town - so what you see is what you get...
I thought the Friends finale was good...it tied things up nicely for me.
Golden Girls! Love that one - and I was thrilled that out of all the girls Dorothy was the one who gets married and goes away...love it.
Disapointing...Seinfeld. I remember all the hype and being so excited to see it - only to be let down...not sure what I was expecting - but that wasn't it.

I really haven't followed many shows until the finale, truthfully.
But of the ones I have, I was SOOOOO dissapointed with both Star Trek: Voyager and Xena. Both finales left HUGE, GAPING HOLES that were never filled in. :distress:

I don't like endings that are total cop outs... ie, Dallas and Newhart. Seriously, all a dream? Kiss my ass! I just think that's lazy.
I'm so-so on the X-Files ending. The ep started out okay, but overall, nothing was answered. And it doesn't look like there's going to be a movie.
Loved the GG ending, too. The way Dorothy kept coming back?! The Wonder Years ending was just okay. It was sweet, but I can't believe they made the dad die. :(

ugh..the Roseanne ending and actually most of the last season was annoying.
Ooh - I just remember the Family Ties ender..LOVED that...though I actually don't remember too much about it - I just remember crying when they brought out the cast...I remember really enjoying that one.

you're right, the whole last season did suck.
i like any finale that makes me cry instead of going "seriously? wtf."

I actually don't remember too many as I don't really commit to tv shows anymore.
yeah... break out the psych theroies now! ;)
I wasn't really into Friends at the time but did watch the finale.... I'm more into it in repeats. Same with Seinfeld but do recall how incredibly lame that finale was. ewwww....
Most recently for me was "Will & Grace".... it was pretty good, especially considering that the last few seasons were beyond lame.
That show used to be hilarious.
I remember watching the MASH finale when it originally aired.

MASH!! How could I forget about it? That show was the bane of my existance for awhile. That was a good finale. Can't forget the Hawkeye/Margaret farewell... :xoxo:

it was completely retarded ... very disappointing without delta burke or jean smart. they had to save this big old historic house from being completely ruined by their client, kiki. in the meantime, they all had fantasies about being scarlett from gone wtih the wind. the only funny one was bernice's, because her rhett was anthony.

Yeah, that sounds pretty lame. I quit watching that show after they implemented a revolving door of actresses to replace Delta Burke and Jean Smart. Suzanne Sugarbaker MADE that show, without her, meh, who cares?

Totally agree. That was one of those shows where the original cast had almost too much chemistry that could not be reproduced.
The political rantings on Designing Women got overbearing and incredibly unenertaining. I think they call that professional suicide????
It was also one of those shows that should have been taken out of it's misery at least a couple of seasons earlier..... ie, Will & Grace, Roseanne, Seinfeld, Cheers, Cosby, etc., etc.
BEWARE OF THE INTRODUCTION OF A SMALL CHILD!!
Cousin Oliver... 'nuff said.... ;)

yeah, the rants got old. especially the whole show they dedicated to the clarence thomas hearings ... yawn! it just made them look bitter and whiny. in the early seasons, it was funny when dixie carter would verbally accost someone on the show, but it got to be gimmicky and unfunny, as you said.
i agree with your list of shows that should've ended earlier. will & grace sucked after HC jr joined the cast. frasier is one of the few ultra long-running shows that i really enjoyed until the last episode.

Cosby...the last season/s? were annoying - when cousin Pam was introduced - and though she was pretty cute - Olivia. The last episode does not stick out in my mind - it was pretty unremarkable if I remember correctly.
It would have been better had they blown up their house...:p Seriously - the Little House is my favorite show ending...I'm lame that way.

DO NOT get me started on Dallas. That show went on for about twice as long as it should have. It should've ended when Bobby died (and it had been on for about 7 or 8 seasons at that point, which is about right). The whole thing about Pam having dreamed the entire season was just...ugh.
And speaking of Pam...the way they had her exit the show was even more godawful than the "dream season." Why didn't they just have her die in the car accident instead of going through all this crap about her running away from the hospital and divorcing Bobby by mail? I think they were entertaining thoughts of recasting the character, but it was still lame.

I KNOW!! BY MAIL! Who does that? I find after about six or seven seasons for just about any show, things start to go a little downhill. There's really only so many things you can do, and I hate when they start pushing things. It's especially annoying when you actually like the show, then you have to admit to yourself that it's getting lame.

Noooo. It annoyed me. I love Newhart to death, but I still refuse to watch the ending.

Malcolm in the Middle had a pretty good finale with them expecting another child which I bet would have been another boy!!

The Golden Girls finale is my fave. 14 years later it's still a tear-jerker.
Good Times also had a decent ending. Although James had died earlier on in the series, the rest of the family finally made it out of the ghetto. J.J. hired on with a comic book company. Michael went to college and lived on campus. Keith, Thelma's husband, finally got a contract to play football. So he and pregnant Thelma got an apartment in the fancy area of Chicago and asked Florida to live with them. Willona got promoted to head-buyer at the boutique and she and Penny moved into a new apartment as well. Their new apartment just so happened to be in the same building that Keith, Thelma, and Florida moved into. So they would all still be neighbors.

I'm a sap when it comes to sitcom series finales. I still cry sometimes when I watch the last episode of Golden Girls, it's so nice to see that Dorothy was the one who ended up getting married after all the grief Blanche always gave her over not dating. I especially like when shows like Growing Pains and The Nanny have the people moving out of their trademark "house", and the room is completely empty and it's just one of the main characters reflecting on everything. Sort of cheesy, but in a good way.
Disappointing? 'Roseanne', definitely. I mean, not just the whole made-up lottery story, but Jackie a lesbian? Oh, and let's not forget the whole Mark/Darlene and Becky/David thing. A hearty WTF to that.
