View Full Version : My San Francisco Adventure or OMG, the shuttle driver wants to kill me!

WARNING: Long post.
Hee! First off, I picked the PERFECT time to got to San Francisco. The weather was amazing. I did all the touristy stuff...went on a 5 1/2 hour shuttle tour of the city and we drove over Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito (yes, I felt the angst from Rumours..heh) and took the ferry back, shopped at Fisherman's Wharf, went to Haight-Ashbury, saw an amazing view from the Top of the Mark Hotel, rode a cable car (with Ryan...hey Ryan! :wavey: ), walked through Chinatown a bit (on my tour), walked up two EXTREMELY steep streets (and almost died), rode in a historic streetcar annnnnnnnnnd saw some concert. ;)
On the shuttle to my hotel Saturday afternoon, the driver was driving so fast up and down the hills...I thought I was going to die in the shuttle. LOL Those hills are seriously nuts.
CONCERT: I get to the venue (it was a short walk from my hotel) and as I'm walking, I look over and Amber goes "Hey Christy." and there she was with Deborah (goldenbraid). They were both super cool and funny...we laughed and had a fun time at the concert and afterwards waiting for Lindsey to come out. We went in and I met Vicky (yes, she wore THE SHIRT...heh) who was cool and friendly (hi Vicky!). Went to my seat and waited for the show. I sat right next to Deborah and then, there was some guy, then Amber. Amber asked if she could sit with her friends and the guy moved over in her seat. So nice of him. The concert was great. Lindsey's family and friends were there and he gave a heartfelt speech about how much he loved his home. Some dude yells out "All My Sorrows" a couple of times and Lindsey goes "Is that John Stewart?" (Of course, John freakin' Stewart walked out the back door later as we waited for LB!! I didn't bother him though because I didn't know what to say...plus I had nothing for him to sign. :( ) I yelled out Down on Rodeo at a VERY quiet point between songs and then other people yelled out songs and he goes "Maybe I'll take requests later." I knew that was not gonna happen. :( I also yelled out "YES!!!" during a quiet moment at the very beginning of ISA. Heh. I hope someone recorded this show. I hope everyone else can fill in my memory blanks too. Okay, so, during GYOW, I was ready to go up front to play the guitar...I was almost at the very end of the aisle so I didn't see an issue, but as I walked up, the security douche put up his arm in front of me, stepped on my foot and goes "Ain't gonna happen." and I'm all "You've got to be kidding me." I go back to my seat. I hate to say this, but I'm over it. I didn't even take my camera out because I felt like he was a douche the second I saw him. I figured he would have told me to put it away. I'm so discouraged with this tour in terms of the security side of it. I'm not over Lindsey or his music, I'm just sick of being treated like crap. :distress:
After the show, like Amber said...we RAN out and went to the back door. Eventually, out comes Brett (SUPER nice..he asked my name and shook my hand), then Neale walked by the door but never came out of it (that I remember anyway), then later Taku came out (also SUPER nice). Before Lindsey came out...his brother Jeff did and Javier Pacheco (who walked out and put his hand over his face and goes "No autographs please." LOL) Like I said, then John Stewart came out. The security douche who stepped on my foot told us to move to the other side so we lost our perfect right-in-front-of-the-door spots. Lindsey comes out and I put out my UTS cover and he signs it. I turn on my camera and take some video since I am right in his face. I took some wierd-looking pictures (due to the lighting out there). Didn't wanna use the flash since I was literally in his face. That's my voice on the video (I'll try to get it up today) saying "Thank you, Lindsey. Great show." I wanted to get my pic with him, but other people were asking and then, my camera froze! AAAHHH!! I think it got too cold and when it does...it locks up. By the time I got it back on, Lindsey was talking to a friend or something and the security douche goes "He's leaving." and LB got in the van. Another opportunity missed. I have 3 more though. :) All I want now is a pic with him...no autograph. My holy grail...a pic. Didn't see his wife, but I think she was there somewhere.
After the show, Deborah, Amber and I left and went towards my hotel. There was a IHOP down the street, so we went there. Unfortunately, it was closed (Wha? Even though it said Open 24 Hours on the sign) so I just went back to my hotel since it was late and I had a flight out the next morning (or so I thought).
Hello to Tiff (EnchantedSLN) and Anita (GarboSpeaks). Wonderful to have met you both!
Amber and Deborah, thanks for giving me a ride back to my hotel and I had lots of fun with you guys at the show and afterwards. Ryan, thanks for having lunch and riding the cable car with me. Wish you could have gotten a good seat to the show. Maybe next time. :)
I have a neat story to tell. Sunday night, I went to Fisherman's Wharf after my tour. Got hungry and walked to Pizza Zone. There was a guy in there that I sat close to and we got to chit-chatting. Come to find out, he's a limo driver for some dude that night who's super rich (nobody famous unfortunately). I told him about my day and he goes "If you need a ride back to your hotel, I'd be happy to take you in the limo...no charge." I'm all "I would totally take you up on that...but it's still early and I'm probably not finished shopping yet." (It was only like 4:30PM) So, he goes "Well, if you want, I can drive you around this area while I'm waiting on my guy who's out having a good time, drinking and won't be calling me for awhile." I'm thinking "Is this guy serious?" So...we walk to his limo and I get in. I have pics to prove it! LOL He drives me around the area of Fisherman's Wharf and we go to Gharardelli Square (I was trying to find a shirt for my dad of Lombard Street...never found one). The limo driver's name was Bob and he works for Prestige Limo in San Francisco. I told him I would tell everyone about him and the company for being so super cool to me. He drove me to Pier 39 and even back to my hotel on Lombard Street (not the crooked part. LOL) so I could drop some stuff off and we drove back to Fisherman's Wharf. That's where his guy was at some restaurant. He wanted to stay fairly close in case the guy called to be picked up. So, Bob and I hung out for a couple of hours, going to various shops to find a shirt and he took some pics of me. He even bought me an ice cream cone. SUPER friendly dude. He was from Nicaragua, but raised in SF. Later in the night, Bob told me he had to go and I got a taxi back to my hotel. What a day!
San Francisco is a beautiful place with beautiful people. I had an amazing time except for when I tried to leave it yesterday. My flight was cancelled due to mechanical issues...okay fine, they told me I'd be on the 10:45AM fight. Cool. So, I get to the airport and the flight is delayed another hour. Ooookay. Tick-tock....shop...piddle....people watch...get a donut. Flight's delayed until 12:39PM. OMG, are they serious...what's the deal?! I go over and get on the standby list for an 11:30 flight out...it's full. I go get something to eat for lunch and come back and there's another flight leaving at 12:45. They call my name and I'm on! YAY! On the very last row, but next to a nice guy. We don't leave the freakin' terminal until 1:30PM. I think the thick fog in SF screwed all the flights up for the day. So, I made it home 9 hours later than I planned. But, at least I made it home safe.
THE END.

I made it home safe. wow I am very happy you enjoyed SF...and that you have our sweets on vid...you must upload ASAP! ;) Security has been a bitch, and I am sorry you were unable to get up on GYOW. I have been ever so lucky in getting through and I realize that. I would have been scared to get in that limo...I guess I am paranoid...but really you have guts girl... Thanks for all the deets...SF is beautiful. I lived there for a summer after high school taking care of my bro's place while he biked it across the US.
So...is Lindsey just as dreammy outside the venue in front of you as he is on stage? :swoon:

I read a review over at seven where they said all the girls were screaming and carrying on. I hope that if I ever have an opportunity to meet Lindsey there aren't a bunch of girls around doing that...that's just embarrassing.
Christy...was anyone able to get up there and touch his guitar or anything at all?

Only the front row got to play his guitar. The seats were so low and the stage so high up too. Lindsey's mic was pretty far back away from the edge.
Of course he's hot offstage...as well as onstage. He's super friendly and cool too. He was joking about the Stones concert outside too. He was happy we chose to see him instead. I don't like the Stones, so it's a no brainer for me.
Screaming? I don't remember anything like that. The girl that got kissed on the cheek (7 Wonders gal) may have squeeled a tiny bit, but I seriouly don't recall any crazy screaming. I only screamed during the show...not outside.
I believe Brett's like...I wanna say...52.

Screaming? I don't remember anything like that. mybad...here is what I read "So Lindsey comes out after I said "Oh my god it's him!" and the guy was just mobbed by girls. It was kind of freaky for a second, actually." so I guess just "mobbed."
Gosh...I would go every weekend if I could...just the best show ever! I so want to see that video! The pics you took are goodies...

AWESOME!!!! You got a sig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But dude....you seem to be having MY luck with security this time around, LOL. I generally have the *worst* luck with security (think almost being thrown out of a show once for taking pics with my cellphone...when, at the time, my cellphone didn't even have a camera on it!!!), but this time around it's been you! :( I hope your luck improves, seriously!!!
But that sounds SOOOOO WONDERFUL! I just checked out kayak.com, and it's definitely pulling up a few lower fares although I'm not sure how much lower it'll get by Monday...but I will keep on checking! Fingers crossed that I can join you and watch you achieve your holy grail in Denver, LOL!

Thanks for that great story! I never even spent much time by Pier 39 and the Wharf (excfept when I worked in the cannery building, briefly) but even so your adventure made me miss the City.
Your Limo adventure sounded so fun—Cinderella in the City.
I wish I had spent the money for the show at the Palace of Fine Arts.

Great review, Christy, and it was a pleasure meeting you and SilentGarbo!
What a F-ing fantastic show! By sheer luck and the generosity of friends, I was actually able to get into the front row (the seats I bought were 3rd row) and got to play LB's guitar during GYOW. He also stood right in front of me for his entire I'm So Afraid solo, what a rush!!! I so wish I could've stayed and gotten the opportunity to meet Lindsey, but I really had to get going back to Vacaville, since I had to be at work early the next morning. Still I have to say that it was my best concert experience ever, even my F-Mac-hating best friend who went with me was raving about the show all the way home! I'm hoping the man keeps his word when he said "See you next year!" because this simply cannot be my only Lindsey solo experience! I NEED MORE!
P.S. - Several people complimented me on "The Shirt" and a friend of mine who also attended insists that I simply must make one for her, too. :D

I actually posted a photo of me in "The Shirt" awhile back in the latest Chit Chat photo thread. It's black and says "Stevie Who?" in bold white letters across the front (and "Miss Vicky Addicted to The Ledge since January 2005" on the back). I had it made just for the show, and nearly reconsidered wearing it, but I'd promised a friend of mine that I would so I had to (and I was glad that I did).
The venue was really nice. The seats were comfortable and well-spaced out. Nice, cozy, small venue. I'd never been there before. It was in the Palace of Fine Arts, so I'd never had any interest in seeing it before (Though my best friend had been there to view exhibits in the past but wasn't aware that they had an auditorium). I typically avoid San Francisco and all big cities because I am something of an antisocial (who knew? ). Also, all those huge buildings so close together make me claustrophobic and the fact that the city is more or less on a fault line doesn't help my paranoia any.

I actually posted a photo of me in "The Shirt" awhile back in the latest Chit Chat photo thread. It would probably be pretty hard to find then but, from what you've described, it sounds cool. It is fun to do something special like that for concerts...I think. Glad you had a good time with it.

The infamous shirt.
Looks like the Stevie picture behind you is trying to look over your shoulder to read it.

Thanks, I love it too.
I actually had shirts made for the SYW concerts I went to as well. One of them says "Real Savage Like" on the front and "Tusk" on the back and the other says "Come" on the front and "Can You Feel the Fever?" on the back.
I always get weird looks from people when I wear them around town.

Well, don't do it right away. Make sure she gets a good view of the shirt first.

Hey, you know, with all these rumors of another FM tour, she just might. ;)

I have no idea, but during BTLH...some chick went up to the stage from a few rows back and stood there....douche never said a word to her. I guess he knew it was the last song, but still. Sheeh. Then, he apologizes to Amber for not letting us up front...instead of to me...for stepping on my foot. Cow.
That's only because I was the one before the show that went up and asked him if the first couple rows would be allowed to go to the front. I was trying to talk him into it for a few minutes there, so he probably remembered. I think I kept saying "Please? Please just 2 rows? Lindsey likes it (hehe). Please?!"
Plus, he apologized when I was randomly standing right next to him when Lindsey was signing, he didn't come looking for me or anything.
Nevertheless, an apology to your foot was definitely warranted. :)

Ryan is speechless.
The only "bad" experience I had was some homeless (I'm assuming) man calling me a b*tch in Union Square. I was talking to a nice lady and I got up to go to the Mark Hotel and he comes up behind me and says something...I couldn't hear him exactly but I go "No, I'm alright." and he goes "B*tch, I didn't ask you if you were alright...mumble..mumble..."
Okay.

Okay.
We have a lot of mentally ill and people with major substance issues on the streets. Sorry about that experience.

All cities have people like that. It's sad. :( Didn't make my experience any less wonderful...it was only a blip on the radar. :)

Did anyone see a review of the SF show anywhere? Or were all the critics at the Stones? :D

Yeah. The Chron had the whole front of the Datebook for the Stones on Wed. As if they're cool, or talented, or something. :p

The Chron I don't know what is up with some of these papers. They send a photog to snap pics yet they don't do a story. I am having the same experience with the santa barbara show...and the photog told me that they would have something in a few days...seems to be taking a lot longer.
