Well, it's almost here. There are a few races where I'm 100% sure who I'll be voting for, but for some others, I need to know more before I make my decision.
Is there a website (non-biased, if possible) where I can go & research the candidates as far as their voting record, following through on promises, etc? I don't want to know why a person thinks their opponent is an assh*le, I just want to know how they've voted on issues, or what experience they've had if they're the challenger.
Any help is appreciated.

Check out www.vote-smart.org. It's an awesome website and non-partisan. You can even call them and ask questions.

Great site. Problem is that the majority of candidates that I don't know enough about refused to reply to their survey. Figures.

Hmm. Another good resource is the League of Women Voters. You might try to find a local chapter through their national office/website. They might have some good info on candidates and they are non-partisan.

^ I am finding some more info there, thanks. For governor, I'm thinking of voting for Jimmy McMillan, representing "The Rent is Too High" party.

Not too get too much into your politics, but I would be voting for Spitzer with great enthusiasm if I were in NY. I only know him from his high profile lawsuits, but he seems pretty great to me.

That's one race I'm almost 100% sure about - Spitzer is my choice too.

I always trust the League of Women Voters, they are also non-partisan.

I wished next Tuesday would come and go already, I am SICK of the NEGATIVE campaigns cloggin' the local TV airways (Try to watch the local news WITHOUT a negative campaign is akin to having William Shatner to not suck, In other words dont hold yer breath on it.)

hell yeah. every year it's the same bullsh*t. it's especially frustrating because i live 45 min from the cleveland metro area - i don't even know/care who a lot of the candidates are.

Lt.Governor is getting very nasty here in Oklahoma, I should be a dick and vote for the INDEPENDENT (Wouldnt be hard since that is my political party of choice-Though I like the Demo. candidate Jari Askins) candidate with the best name ever: E.Z.Million (How can ya go wrong with a candidate with a name like that?? )

omg, you gotta be kidding me!
things are getting interesting here since our secretary of state keeps making some ... interesting ... decisions regarding this year's election while he is on the ballot for governor. conflict of interest much??

My only bitch about their site is that the info from the candidates seems to be the same old sh*t I've already heard. It's not really their fault, it's more how the candidates answered. But the responses suck - of course they're going to promise things, of course they're going to say "I think this is bad, and I think this is good." But nobody seems to have a real plan - they just want votes.
Here's an example, from John Cain:
1. As state comptroller, your duties would include overseeing the fiscal affairs of the state. This year's $114.7 billion budget calls for the largest state spending increases in 30 years with spending growing faster than revenues. Is this fiscal responsibility on the part of the governor and legislators? Why or why not? Explain.
This is gross fiscal irresponsibility. Libertarians believe in small government. Government should not be in the real estate business, the insurance business, legislating morality or perpetuating the welfare state mentality.
Thanks for your opinions, pal. Now what are you going to do to change things?

The worst was growing up in Kansas City- it's gotten so bad. Living in the metro area there during this time is so bad for a couple of reasons- the big one is that we get TWICE the amount of political ads as most places because the metro area encompasses TWO states- so we get the bull**** ads for the races in Missouri and Kansas. The second reason? It's KANSAS. So the ads are just insane- even the most conservative Democrat of all time gets attack ads for being an evil liberal who wants to kill babies and eat them for snacks.

I was just saying to someone at work that things this year seem nastier than ever. Pennsylvania has a lot going on: Gov. race, the apparent probability of Sen Rick Santorium losing his seat, a some very tight House races, and lots of Harrisburg seats coming a year after the state legislature voted themselves a 16-34 percent pay raise in the middle of the night (this pissed a lot of people off and it has since been repealed).
Regarding vote-smart, we actually had a candidate say that he never answers the VS survey because it just gives his opponent something to use against him.
There's so much info out there. I just use Google a lot and try to find the points everyone agrees on!
I'll be glad when next Tuesday is over, especially since it's making work nuts...still, it should be very exciting!

Every year campaigning gets nastier and nastier, ungodly amounts are spent and everyone cries about campaign reform until the election is over and then forgets about it until the next election. You can't weed through all the BS to find out what they really stand for.
Even in the small town I live in (population 27,000) we have a candidate for Mayor that has spent over $200,000 of HIS OWN MONEY on his campaign. He just moved into the city 3 months ago, no one has seen him at his so called residence and you get slick multi page photo fliers from him for a part-time position that pays $13,000 a year. WTF!!!
