I grew up with Dr Who --but I haven't watched an entire episode since the 80's. I never watched that movie.
WHen I heard Dr Who was being revamped...I didn't know what to think. Then I heard it was good but I still didn't manage to watch it...I just thought nothing could compare to those Peter Davidson eps I love so much...
But I was on youtube ALL night last night and I watched the final ep of season 2
SPOILER FOR AMERICANS WHO HAVEN"T WATCHED YET...
But my God...that scene with Rose and the DR! WOW! I have seen anything so heartfelt on that show. The DR never really seemed to get too involved...but there was chemistry sometimes ( look at Tom Baker and his one assistant...they got married in real life *can't remember her name!*)
but nothing like this.
I was just so touched...because I do feel like I know the DR...even with that new face...( and a cute face that is).
Anyway...what does everyone think? Is it worth the plunge to watch these?

I too grew up with Dr Who and the programmes scared me witless!
I haven't followed the new series too closely but I've seen bits and pieces and would definitely have watched each episode if I'd had the time.
My niece and nephews are complete addicts and think it's all brilliant. Other people rave about it too, so yes, you should take the plunge!

I never watched that movie.
Paul McGann was very good. Pity they chose not to ask him to do the new series. Paul apparently did some radio episodes/audio adventures as his version of The Doctor which is nice.
Sylvester McCoy even appeared briefly to effect the regeneration, which was good of him. Or perhaps he needed the work.
I just thought nothing could compare to those Peter Davidson eps I love so much...
Shudder - Peter Davison was about the time I stopped watching regularly. Peter made a far better vet than a Doctor. He was just too wet.
I hated Season 1 of the new series with Christopher Eccleston. What a slimey letch he made The Doctor.
Season 2 with David Tennant was sooooo much better. Just the 1st episode made up for the whole 1st season.
There was even a reprise for Sarah-Jane Smith and K9. Looking forward to the Christmas Special and the new season.
(I had to look up how S-J S came to be in possession of K9 - failed spin-off pilot).
I make no further comment on the romance aspect other than to say the 1st Doctor's companions were supposed to be his Granddaughters, so he must get lucky sometime.
( look at Tom Baker and his one assistant...they got married in real life *can't remember her name!*)
Lalla Ward who played the 2nd incarnation of Lady Romana.

---Oh I loved him. He was a great vet ( love that show too!) but he was just so charming...him and Teegan were my favorites. I was rather young ( 6 or 7) but God...still have fond memories.

--really? I haven't seen anything but clips but he seemed happy or very smiley...I guess not.

---not to mention cute! What a hottie LL!

-----I actually saw these way back when. It was her and K-9 and she lived in this big house or something...I can't remember but I did see that tv show. She actually kind of got on my nerves.
I make no further comment on the romance aspect other than to say the 1st Doctor's companions were supposed to be his Granddaughters, so he must get lucky sometime.
-----Well not to spoil anything but I was confused on the last episode of the series 2. I didn't see anything but the last 5 minutes and Rose says something and the DR asks if it's her...I wonder why...but I guess I'll see why when I get to watch the series.
Lalla Ward who played the 2nd incarnation of Lady Romana.
Thank you!!!

You should try to find Torchwood. The series started last week in the UK and is great. The main character is Captain Jack Harkness from the last 5 episodes of the 9th Doctor.

I've watched all the new eps of Dr Who and I bawled my eyes out when I watched the final episode. I thought the last 2 were cracking episodes anyway but that final scene with the Dr and Rose. There were also some great lines from the Daleks and the Cybermen. Really funny at times

That episode hasn't aired yet in America, FYI... they're on like the fifth episode or so of Series 2 on Sci-Fi right now.
I had never watched ANY Doctor Who at all growing up, but everyone I knew was raving about Eccleston so I downloaded all those episodes and totally fell in love. I'm not sure why- I kept watching it thinking I didn't even like it, but I could never turn it off. Those episodes are like crack. I really like the Tennant ones too- I liked School Reunion a lot, but that may just be because of Anthony Stewart Head aka Giles.
My boyfriend and I get so damn excited for Sci-Fi Friday- Heroes, Doctor Who, & Battlestar Galactica (the greatest show of all time period).

So they have made that? I heard a rumour.
No doubt the ABC will show it here in due course. Haven't seen a promo yet.
