i'm woefully uneducated in this area, but i'd love to know who chris has written some of her songs for.
the only ones i am aware of are:
don't stop - john
sugar daddy - mick
little lies - lindsey
songbird - her dog / john
ricky - richard dashut (thanks to mary anne for that!)
does anyone know of others? has she ever specifically mentioned writing something for stevie?
just curious!
Mick SAYS "OH Daddy"(not SD) was written for him.
Btw, he's full of sh*t, IMO.
Maybe Cocaine Daddy, or Bankruptcy for Dummies, Daddy.
"Ask Anybody" & "Only Over You" for Dennis Wilson
"You Make Loving Fun" for Curry Grant
I've never heard her say anything about "Sugar Daddy". Where did you hear this, Aisling?
She has said that it was LOOSELY based on Mick & his family. I think the idea for the song started with Mick & kind of moved elsewhere towards the band.
ahh yes, oh daddy, not sugar daddy. sorry, late night!!
LMAO "bankruptcy for dummies daddy" !!!!!
sorry, i meant oh daddy as homer pointed out. but it would be interesting to know who sugar daddy was about! probably her dog again.
"Sugar Daddy" is pure working-girl female fantasy. All of us that are nurses and secretaries and accountants might think rock stars aren't working girls, but they are, and I'm sure there are days they think (like the rest of us do in our secret fantasies), why do I have to work, where's my sugar daddy to put my working days behind me?
That's my opinion on what "Sugar Daddy" is about. Not *about* anybody, just thinking wishfully (and playfully).
I didn't know Little Lies was about Lindsey.
i read an interview somewhere where she rather reluctantly admitted it was about him wanting to leave the band. hopefully i will have some time to myself this afternoon and i can search for the interview.
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooh interesting... I hope you can find the interview!!
briefly searched, all i can come up with is an old ledge thread:
http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/archive/index.php/t-14197.html
i believe the first source that AliP credits, "up close", is the interview i was thinking about. i tried to look for it in the BLA, but couldn't find it. i actually think the date may not be 87, but more like 89. if anyone has more info, let us know! if not, i'll try looking again tomorrow.
"Up Close" is a radio interview program from around The Dance. I have it on CD. She said that she added the romantic element to the song to disguise the fact that it was about Lindsey wanting to leave the band.
yes, yes, that sounds like the one! wow, it was from the dance? i don't know why i thought it was so much older.

Yes, she did say "Ask Anybody" was about Dennis Wilson, especially the line....He's a devil, he's an angel.
I also believe her Mirage songs were about Dennis. As for "Brown Eyes", I'd love to know who this song is about. Maybe Dennis as well, although I don't think he actually had brown eyes. She could have just changed the color because it sounded better.:D
And, I agree with Gail that "Brown Eyes" is the sexiest Fleetwood Mac song ever, by far. By the way, I think "Anything Is Possible" & "Come Out To Play" from ITM are also very sexy songs too, in a playful sort of way.

Yes they are too.
"You could take me out, you could lay me down" - I think there should be a bit taking of out before any laying down happens.
"You are a sexy man" - just say it how it is Chris

really?? now i am SO upset she never answered. :distress: i can't even remember what my questions were, it was so long ago.
if she ever decides to redo her website, she should definitely post some of the Q&As. preferably in video format, like the clips of her and dan that are up now.

At one time, the moderator of the site mentioned that Gavin(the administrator) had heard from Dan Perfect that Chris was recording her answers on cassette tape. I had hoped that they would post the answers as audio downloads, which would have been cool.
By the way, I had also asked about who she wrote "Show Me A Smile" about. I've always been curious about that.

According to Mick's book, Hold me was also about Dennis.
Never knew Little Lies was about or for Lindsey. I don't see the point.
and Songbird.. for her dog??? She said in the Rumours doc it was about "nobody and eveybody"

She said in that Japan documentary footage that "Songbird" was about her dog. She was only kidding. She has described "Songbird" as a Fleetwood Mac prayer, that it was about the band in general.

Chris said that "Save Me" was originally written about the rain forests. But, she thought that sounded weird, so she changed it around a little by adding a romantic element to it.
"Temporary One" was written about her family in England.

Well, I like to think that she wrote it about ME, after that 1976 Eric Clapton concert when we met.
By the way, I had also asked about who she wrote "Show Me A Smile" about. I've always been curious about that.
Logically, (but still a guess) I think she wrote it for John...and/or the remaining then members of Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac had just undergone another traumatic personnel change (Jeremy Spencer's departure; Bob Welch's arrival) and the band probably needed cheering up.

But, it sounds like it was written for a young child. I'm guessing, maybe a nephew. Maybe even Dan Perfect, who would have been around the right age in the early 1970's.

When was Cyrill Perfect born? Was it after Show Me a Smile came out?

There's a Tango era interview from 1987 that I have in which Chris mentioned that she had a 14 year old brother who was an aspiring classical composer. That would mean he was born around 1973. Chris mentioned in one of her ITM interviews that Dan was 38 years old. That would mean he was born around 1966. That would have made him around 5 years old when Future Games was released.

so even allowing for the fact that she never gets dates right it doesn't seem possible to be about Cyrill.
It might be one of her songs that isn't about anyone
Gail
Edit: Dan Perfect's website says he was born in 1965

I always say that a song isn't necessarily from the songwriter's own personal experience -- it can be from their observations of others or just from their imagination -- but I think "Show Me a Smile" *is* a personal song. I like to think that Christine was thinking of her little 5-year old nephew Dan when she wrote it. I think that's very sweet, considering that Dan grew up to help his auntie record a solo record.
Most of Christine's songs are about a romantic experience, but some of her very best songs are the ones she has written expressing a longing for home and family, such as "Temporary One," "Homeward Bound," "Hollywood," in addition to "Show Me a Smile."

She did those ITM interviews in Sept. 2004 so his birthday must be in late 1965. I think he looks younger than his actual age.

It is really nice seeing Brown Eyes getting some love. I was on another board and saw someone say it was the worse track on "Tusk." I felt like kicking some ass over that comment. IMO it was one of the best tracks.

I'm sure I saw the prices on some website or other (so that's helpful then)

Yes, he's married. Her name is Fiona Rae. She's also an artist. She's mentioned in the liner notes of ITM.

Yes, that's a definite possibility...maybe Jo Perfect is her father's second wife. I think Anthea is John Perfect's wife, just the way the liner notes are worded in the Time booklet.
