Black Bart -- which is a tight black wife beater, black jeans, black cowboy boots with spurs, two fake pistols on my black cowboy belt, and a badge affixed somewhere. To goth it up, I am wearing a dragon pendant (that flashes light) on a black leather string.

Short, red/black/white, plaid skirt with crossed safety pins and skulls, white shirt with crossed safety pins, a plaid tie what matches the skirt, black knee high socks, and black mary janes.

I'm with ya, sistah (I can't believe i just said sistah). I haven't dressed up in about 4 or 5 years -and my last costume was LAME...I was a starbucks barista (so basically I just wore my old Sbux apron).

This year I'll be with my nephew - who's going to be Sir Lancelittle (his take on Sir Lancelot.)

Taking your son is very cool, and I understand that it's way fun. But I've kicked teenagers off my porch for being too old, I sure as hell ain't about to give candy out to a grown woman. I don't go to work every day to make $ to buy candy for grownups - if they want it they can go & buy their own. I work to buy it for young kids, to ruin their health & rot their teeth.

I'm always too cheap to buy candy to give to ANYONE

The worst year though - Halloween 1999 - a group of four teenagers came to our door after literally knocking over a group of kids- my brother in law started to close the door on them - two of them THREW themselves against the door to stop him from closing it - luckily my bro-in-law is a big guy - so he did get the door shut - we then called the cops becasue they kept banging on the door and DEMANDING candy.....

So as long as you're not doing that, Mary...more power to ya

Listen, I love Halloween, it's my favorite holiday of the year. I decorate my house inside AND out and I don't even have kids. I buy candy every year to give to the kids, and this is the first year I haven't carved a pumpkin IN MY LIFE. I've had several great Halloween parties & I love to dress up in costume. I love haunted houses, and pumpkin farms. But I would never beg my neighbors for candy - it strikes me as tacky & rude. You can still be in the spirit of Halloween and you can still be a kid at heart without doing that.

Can we just agree to disagree? On Tuesday you'll go & grab as much loot as you can & I'll scream "hey, git off my porch, you old bastard" in my best granny voice and whack people with a broom or something. OK?

After draggen your f**ken kids around the god damn neighbourhood for 16 years you get alittle sick of it. Plus we live in the country and get like 2 kids to my door, so it's not even really worth it, doing the candy thing. Then I only eat the candy and get f**ken fat. Besides, ever since my son was diagnosed with diabetes, it's really put a damper on the whole candy thing

Whatever gets you through the night/floats your boat/makes you happy. I think that's sad. Costume parties & pumpkin carving are good enough to make me feel young personally. I don't get why people get so defensive & upset about aging. Maybe I'll feel differently in 20 years.

I guess its a good thing for both of us, I wont be visiting YOUR neighborhood...oh and that double standard? Hypocricy is alive and well apparently.....

I still think back fondly to the last time I did it, and I had a BLAST! my girls thought it was funny and so did the neighbors (the ones that knew). My ex-boyfriend did the "dad" bit and had the flashlight and it was all in FUN.
the question about who will pass out the candy is a good one, I've actually tossed around the idea of leaving a big bowl on my porch, but I dont know....
truthfully, I havent decided exactly WHAT I am going to do. I may dress up and pass out the candy and let my daughter take my son out, its still up in the air.

^ What double standard are you talking about?

And if you leave the bowl out, the older greedy kids WILL take all the candy (happened to my neighbor.) Come to think of it, after that first year neighbor didn't put all the candy in the bowl - she gave the rest to my mom & asked her to go over there & periodically refill the bowl as needed. It worked out pretty well.

The cut off age for my kids for "trick or treating" is 12. TorT is for kids. When big teens come to my door, I get pissed. If an adult came to my door with a bag wide open, I said "you can't be serious?" and then throw something really horrible in their bag, like a rotten apple or some cleaning product or something

as for the greedy kids scenario, I know that happens, plus I dont want anyone to smash our Jack O Lanterns. Like I said, I havent actually made up my mind. What I'd LIKE to do and what I WILL do may be two different things.

Bikerchick, my kids imposed their own limit. they stopped when they werent comfortable with it. Makes more sense to me. Different strokes for different folks I guess. And since you HATE Halloween and I LOVE it, between the two of us, I'd say Im the luckier one...

considering I AM the tooth fairy, I am not sure what your point is? I dont believe in Santa or the Easter Bunny either, just so you know.

Ive never seen such a collection of wet blankets in my life~

example of double standard for Paula: thinking its perfectly OK to give booze to 19yr olds and frowning on a piece or two of candy to another adult.

one is harmless, the other is potentially illegal. go figure.

You thought I was serious about that? Did you even read Strand's post, the one in which I replied to? Here it is again, for your review:

EXACTLY - I mean I bet if a gaggle of older gay guys (and mind you over 19 is old for this hooker) pranced up to her door, she'd be all smiles and then would haul out the Schnapps for them

Do "older gay guys" frequently trick or treat in large groups in your neighborhood? Since it's not the norm here, therefore I assumed Strand was being facetious & poking fun at my love for the gays. So I replied jokingly, as most people would.

And I assumed that "this hooker" meant Strand, but I could be mistaken on that one.

Here is my sarcastic witty tongue firmly in cheek response:

Sure, free booze for the gays is just a given. But I stand firm on my "no candy for middle aged straight broads" decision.

I knew Jason was joking and I assumed you were playing along but why you can be playful about one thing and not the other makes no sense to me.

Come ON. just what exactly do you object to? the fact that an ADULT would have the nerve to go with their kid and hope for a handout? its all in FUN, a point which you KEEP MISSING. The way I see it, if a person plays along, they "get" the "fun" aspect. if they dont, they dont. Apparently you dont. What EVER. Im not going to be in your neighborhood, so get over it.

oh, wait...I'd win either way it goes. ok, so why don't we just break out the ruler and measure our dicks.

I wasn't going to say anything but...

Seriously? Who cares if an adult wants to go trick-or-treating? And since when are holidays just for children anyway?

My neighborhood is full of a bunch of humbugs. Nobody trick-or-treats around here (except for the odd teenager - most of whom don't even bother with a costume) and nobody really bothers with decorative displays either (Christmas displays 'round here are few and far between, too). Quite frankly, if an adult showed up at my door in a costume and saying trick-or-treat, I'd have to give them props (and candy) for showing some love for All Hallow's Eve, my favorite holiday.

Incidentally, Halloween was originally a Pagan/Celtic New Year's Eve celebration anyway and all the things we associate with it have roots in the ancient traditions.

Thanks! I spent all damn day carving that stupid pumpkin (the rat one, obviously. I stole the avatar from photobucket) and now my neck is killing me from leaning over it. I may still add some stuff to it, though.

It is indeed. The X is supposed to be his whiskers.
I'm a tad obsessed.

See, that's where I draw the line. I don't care how old you are, but if you don't bother to dress up you ain't gettin' any candy. You gotta put some effort into it, that's the whole point of trick or treating!

Oh, and Vicky, I love your avatar and sig photos!

ITA. Even kids - like older ones - if they can't make an effort to at least put on a stupid mask or something - no candy for yoU!

why don't we just break out the ruler and measure our dicks.

oh, wait...I'd win either way it goes. ok, so why don't we just break out the ruler and measure our dicks.

but for the record, trick or treating as an adult is hella lame. don't care who you are. who "gets" the "fun" in handing out candy to a grown ass person? that's the real question. maybe they're the ones we should be bitching at, strike that, discussing this with.

oopps, sorry I don't mean to drag this argument on.

OMG that is adorable!

Thanks! I won the kickball costume contest last nite! The kickballers were mostly lame and did not wear costumes. Except for our team, which nearly swept the competition. Just like we kicked butt in our game in a 12-0 shut out. We had Mario and Robocop and another team had a pregnant schoolgirl, she was great. I wore those boot toppers over my hiking boots so everyone thought I was playing in some pretty hardcore boots. Good times.

debdown checking in...I just wanted to mention that I heard on the news this morning that we as a nation spend 4+ billion a year on this event...second only to Christmas. IMO It would be amazing if one day on this day everyone decided to put that towards something significant...like children in need.

Ya know - that is such a fukcing crock. Yes, we could all live in 8x10 concrete rooms with a bed only and have two outfits and no iondividuality whatsoever. Hey, everyone could be fed that way, but who would want to live that way? I certainly would not. I realize that is an extreme example, but the illustration is significant to point out that individual choice makes us who we are. To have that choice and that personage, we must be able to set our own goals on spending on ourselves as opposed to others. But, people will judge others and so be it. I try not to, but do anyway.

SO adorable!!! little kid costumes reduce me to tears!. my office mate just brought in her 4 month old daughter, dressed as a cuddly pink bear, and i was in absolute bits over her.

edit: i realize this reads as slightly creepy, but i assure you it's not the case, i just get overly emotional when it comes to children. LOL

I ordered the mask from a guy on Ebay and when I told him that I was going to wear it backwards he customized it and put eyeholes in the back and velcro around the neck to secure it. The worse part is getting hair in my mouth and sweating like a sow.

The sow is mine of course.

In case anyone is wondering:

I did NOT go beg for candy last night. Wait, thats not true, a fellow Pagan foisted some gummy eyeballs and a Kit Kat on me and I did grab a Milky Way out of my son's stash. It was a pity piece because I was sick and couldnt join the fun. We only had ONE group of kids (2) come to our door and I had the porch all decorated with a talking scary Jack O Lantern and everything. What a shame. And my daughter took my son out and she said there was hardly any kids out.....What happened to Halloween anyway? :distress:

I was a bit concerned about the turnout, since several towns were debating cancelling T or T because of the storm a few weeks ago. But the weather held out (windy but not cold, and no rain) and my neighborhood isn't too bad anymore as far as debris goes.
