Paul McCartney/Heather Mills Divorce Shocker: Paul Choked Me

In court documents filed by Heather Mills, she claims that estranged husband Paul McCartney was physically violent towards her, took drugs and stopped her from breastfeeding their baby during their marriage. She says while in LA in November 2002, he grabbed her by the neck and pushed her over a coffee table. In May 2003 she claims he shoved her into a bath. In Aug 2005, he allegedly choked her after she accused him of smoking marijuana. In April 2006, the documents state, he tipped red wine over her; he then broke the wine glass and lunged at her with the sharp stem of the wine glass which cut Heather’s arm. See the specific allegations detailed below, as reported by London's Evening Standard:

October 2002: McCartney loudly pointed out that Mills was in a bad mood, in front of other people. When they returned home McCartney and Mills began to argue about the McCartney’s behaviour. McCartney grabbed Mills by the neck and pushed her over a coffee table. He then went outside and, in his drunken state, fell down a hill, cutting his arm.

May 2003: The couple were in a hotel in Rome when McCartney behaved coldly towards Mills, who was pregnant and who was distressed by a derogatory newspaper article about her. An argument ensued in which McCartney became angry and pushed Mills into the bath. Mills suffered distress but was made to go to McCartney’s evening concert.

May 2003: Following the concert, in a fit of pique because Mills refused to go to the aftershow party, McCartney directed a female bodyguard to abandon Mills, leaving her exposed to hordes of fans. The respondent was forced to take a 30 minute walk back to the hotel because no taxi was available.

August 2003: In Long Island, Mills asked McCartney if he had been smoking marijuana. He became angry, grabbed her neck and started choking her.

October 2003: McCartney often told Mills when she was pregnant that he did not want her to breast-feed their child, making the comment "they are my breasts" and "I don't want a mouthful of breast milk".

November 2003: McCartney required Mills to defer an essential operation on her leg because it would have interfered with holiday plans.

December 2003: Mills had a broken pelvic plate McCartney insisted that she cook for him while she was on crutches, could barely move and was in agony.

Mid-November 2004: McCartney failed to protect Mills from adverse press reports despite being in a position to do so. Mills was warned that a forthcoming article about her was about to come out in The Sunday Times magazine and included the line: "The best thing that ever happened to Heather Mills McCartney was losing her leg" which was distressing.

As McCartney had been asked to participate in the half-time entertainment for the Superbowl on Fox TV owned by Rupert Murdoch (who also owns The Sunday Times), Mills asked McCartney to tell Rupert Murdoch that he would not confirm his participation in the Superbowl unless he agreed not to run the story. McCartney refused to assist in this way.

September/October 2005: McCartney called Mills an "ungrateful bitch" in front of their driver when she explained why an office he had provided was not right for her. Having refused to allow Mills to use his spare office on the floor beneath their apartment, which would have allowed for a creche in one part of the office, McCartney had insisted she use an office that was far too small and was 20 minutes walk away. When Mills went to view it, she was chased by paparazzi and was so demoralised by the experience she never used the office.

April 2006: Shortly after Mills’ revision amputation surgery she was forced to crawl on her hands and knees up aeroplane steps because they were not wide enough to take her wheelchair. McCartney had assured Mills he had taken care of her disability needs in connection with the trip.

April 2006: An argument occurred during which McCartney poured a bottle of red wine over Mills’ head and then threw what remained in his wine glass at her.

McCartney then reached to grab Mills’ wine glass, and broke the bowl of the glass from the stem. He then lunged at the Mills with the sharp stem of the glass, which cut and pierced Mills’ arm just below the elbow causing her to bleed profusely. He proceeded to manhandle Mills, flinging her into her wheelchair and wheeling it outside, screaming at her to apologize for "winding him up".

April 2006: Mills asked McCartney not to leave her alone with their daughter Beatrice at the Cabin (because it is isolated in a forest). She had just had surgery on her leg, was in a wheelchair, and was anxious about her ability to cope by herself. Notwithstanding this, he walked off. Mills then telephoned McCartney, and asked him to return. McCartney mocked her pleas, mimicking the voice of a nagging spouse, and refused to return.

April 2006: It is alleged that Mills found McCartney staggering, undressed him and ran the bath and helped him into it. She then phoned the McCartney’s psychiatrist for advice and was told not to attempt to move him, to get a duvet and two pillows, to empty the bath of water, cover him, and leave him there.

Mills thereupon dragged herself upstairs, on her hands and knees (she was unable to wear her prosthetic leg as the wound from surgery had not yet healed) and brought back down the pillows. She found that McCartney had vomited on himself. She rinsed him off, and got him out the bath. At that time Mills had a broken plate in her pelvis and she was in agony.

April 2006: On April 27 Mills knew McCartney would be too hungover to help her with Beatrice and due to her own incapacity as a result of an operation, she had to call the babysitter to help get Beatrice to nursery.

The following day McCartney went to London but said he would be back in time to help the put Beatrice to bed. He did not arrive back at her bedtime even though he knew Mills could not cope on her own. McCartney arrived home drunk and demanded dinner and called the respondent a nag.

That evening Mills realized the marriage had irretrievably broken down and left, crawling on her hands and knees while dragging her wheelchair, crutches and basic personal possessions to the car.

No date given: Mills asked McCartney if she could buy an antique bedpan to keep under the bed at night so she wouldn't have to crawl to the bathroom when her prosthetic leg was not fitted. McCartney objected, saying it would be like being in "an old woman's home."

All this happened, yet he initiated the seperation.

And she was shocked that he did.

Uh huh. Something's fishy.

I have NEVER liked her - and I'm pretty sure the only truly accurate thing in that article is that Macca smoked pot.

Stupid Heather Mills

Well, that's half  I mean that is no different statistically than slitting $100,000. In the end, this is all posturing and I think she will get $100 million or so, which likely is half of what he earned during their marriage.

Right but it's just not reasonable to expect that kind of money after a short marriage IMO. I cannot believe PM did not have a prenup! I'm sure he can't either.

 I've wondered about that too - getting into another marriage so damn fast after Linda's death...they were together for so many years, and he and she said they never spent a night apart (except for the time he landed in jail  )

I wonder if he was expecting something similar from this marriage - but Heather is no Linda and Linda was Paul's great love...so there may be some emotional distress at play.

But I refuse to believe that shrew is completely blameless and sat by to be abused....highly doubtful her accounts.

I too am hesitant to blow off a claim of abuse, but something just doesn't sound right. The drinking, the sarcastic responses & name calling, I can believe. The man's not a saint, I'm sure. And maybe he does drink too much - I'd tend to blame that partially on Linda's death. If he really did physically attack Heather when drunk repeatedly, then she should have gotten out of there long ago - think of the baby!

But for her to claim she had to crawl or wait on him while injured around seems a bit much. Seriously? There aren't any servants at that house to cook and help take care of the baby? And there are laws for the disabled - no way should she have had to crawl up airplane stairs, even if Paul did neglect to make prior arrangements. No way.

I dunno. Just seems strange. And if my husband gave me my own office & I complained about it, he's probably call me an ungrateful bitch too. :p And he'd be right.

I honestly did not like Heather Mills from the very moment I heard of her and Paul's relationship. I mean, Linda was fantastic in the true-love/soul mate/kindred spirit way. They were the couple, and they created such a strong bond and gorgeous family. There was something cold and calculating in Ms. Mills that I can't really describe, but she rubbed me the wrong way and seemed a bad match for him. Paul is old school. He's an overly-romantic, playful guy but he does have a sharp side to him, and Linda certainly got that side and handled it perfectly. They weren't just husband and wife, they were best friends and supported each other in everything.

The fact that his kids, whom I like and think are very sensible, down-to-earth people, were so disgusted by Heather that they walked out of the wedding halfway through the ceremony (so it was reported) really said something. I don't think Heather really tried to be understanding towards them, and I think she could have cared less about Paul's legacy, which really (aside from his family) is his world. And if you were in the Beatles and you did all that, hell...I understand.

I don't know if he's abusive or someone who mocks handicap people (although, if you know about the Beatles it's pretty clear that John had a bit of a paranoia towards them in his younger days), but I do still love him and hope for the best for him and his little daughter. The older kids are settled and have their lives. It's really just Paul and this little baby girl that I hope everything works out for. I could honestly care less about Heather. I hate to say it, but I really am beginning to see very clearly why she married Paul. And I do not respect that at all. If it comes to be that Paul did in fact physically harm her, I can not respect that, but that still will not change the fact that I really dislike her.

I totally agree, he isn't a saint but I really can't see him violent. And in a tabloid era it's practically impossible to keep hidden this kind of informations with a famous person who's been under the spotlights for more than 40 years. IMO, she wants those 100 millions.

I cant believe all the people dumping on Heather here....I mean, we dont really know all that much about her except that she's an activist and former model and married Paul....and there had to be something good to start with or he wouldnt have married her

In my book it takes TWO to tango and Im sure there's plenty of blame to go around on both sides....AND, I dont think she'd be making these claims publicly if she didnt have the proof (or whatever) to back them up. I have a feeling that there's probably some truth to them, and I can TOTALLY see a depressed Paul being drunk and verbally abusive. Maybe even more. I can believe he'd be callous toward her as well. That claim that she had to crawl up the airplane stairs? What would be the point of her even saying it if she didnt have some sort of corroboration?

In any event I guess we'll find out.

ps: I never knew what he saw in Linda, I never liked Linda. Dont much care for Yoko either  Love's a funny thing, aint it?

If you take a look at some of the fansites that collect articles about Paul you will find out that Heather is quite creative with the truth (to say it diplomatically). Many people, her former husbands/lovers, friends and even her own father were forced to talk to the press to set the record straight. Yes, "forced", because more than once Heather didn't hesitate to tell quite sensational and damaging stories about them in order to elevate herself and make herself look like this tough survivor who has fought against the odds. Making Paul the latest in that row of "demons" who did everything to make poor Saint Heather's life hell on earth is really no surprise. Or read interviews with Paul's former PR man Geoff Baker who can tell you a lot about how Lady Heather put a bit too much emphasis on "Lady" in the way she treated Paul's staff. It's not a surprise that Paul mentioned that as "rude behaviour" in the divorce papers.

She has admittedly done great things for amputees, but she has also used and hurt a lot of people who really loved her in order to climb up the ladder and she didn't have any problems with lying to these people and selling even them a revised biography of her life if she saw the need to reach her goals.

You wondered what Paul saw in Linda? Take a look at Danny Field's biography about her or read some of the things friends, musicians and journalists have said about her and you'll get the answer. :) If it wasn't for Linda, Paul probably wouldn't be making music anymore. After the Beatles split, Paul sank into a deep depression and didn't do anything but lie around, while Linda took care of everything, including his business with the help of her father and brother who are lawyers in NY. She also gave him the much-needed kick in the a** to do something productive with his life again. Even Paul admitted that later in his semi-autobiography.

I totally agree with all your points. Paul and Linda were a beautiful couple...true soulmates. I always thought he jumped too quickly into the relationship with Heather, he just did not have enough time to grieve and mourn the loss of his true love.

As far as Heather's allegations...they sound like a bunch of bunk to me. Crawling up airplane steps? Give me a break...chartered/private plans still come with a staff. No pilot or flight attendant would allow a guest to crawl up the steps. That sounds so far fetched.
I seriously doubt Heather cooked on a regular basis, so the story about her being forced to cook after surgery also sounds unbelievable. I tend to think there were staff around who could cook and help care for Beatrice. This is Paul McCartney we are talking about. Even Stevie has help around the house.....and Paul and Heather have a small child, plus she was recuperating from a major operation. I can see Paul yelling at her, smoking pot, getting drunk, mocking her. I hope he called her an ungrateful bitch if she complained about the office she was given, I know my husband would have probably said the same thing to me. I have read a few articles about Heather and her activism work and she does deserve alot of credit for that. However, there are some articles that talk about her using Paul's name, to get more money or to throw around for power, and him being very unhappy with that. She often tried to get him to participate in charities that he did not want to as well.

I still say there's two sides to every story and Im inclined to believe there must be some truth to Heather's claims or she wouldnt make them, especially in a Court forum where you KNOW everything is going to be seen under a microscope. you just DONT make up wild accusations there because you 1) run the risk of losing credibility and 2) open yourself up to prosecution for making false accusations.

Well, that's you.

Paul obviously loved her tremendously. She was no doubt an amazing lady. She gave him a lot of love, support, encouragement, loyalty, a beautiful family, and helped hm stay grounded. Linda was able to stand behind Paul's star with no qualms and yet he couldn't manage without her. She was a rock. I remember when Stella McCartney said that her mother was the main source for and inspiration behind her profession, because she was the kind of lady who would wear an old flower dress and slippers with confidence. She was a minimilist who remained true to herself until the end, and I personally thought she was a wonderful photographer.

On that note...I just watched the R&RHOF ceremony from 1999 where Paul got inducted by Neil Young. Now, was it just me, or did he seem totally plastered there? This was a few months after Linda's death, and to me it seemed he hadn't really dealt with that properly at all yet. Very sad to see.

This is off topic but is your signature something like that "Someone left the cake out in the rain" song? :wavey:

They're lyrics from The Time It Takes to Fall by Adam Pascal (off his "Model Prisoner" album. Highly recommended btw.) Thanks for asking, though. :wavey:

I'm no legal expert, but I don't think Mills has a leg to stand on....
(Somebody had to say it.)

I thought this SAME thing as I hear how ugly all this is getting.
So either great minds think alike or warped Mac-infested minds think alike.
Go figure... :wavey:

Heather: I've got secret tapes of violent rows with Macca

Heather Mills has taped evidence to back up claims that Sir Paul McCartney physically attacked her, say friends.

When her explosive court divorce papers accused the ex-Beatle of violently attacking her during their four year marriage she was branded a 'fantasist' and a 'liar'.

But, according to supporters of Miss Mills, she is ready - and able - to back up her claims with recorded, indisputable evidence.

'Suggestions that Heather simply made up the accusations about Paul attacking her are, understandably, incredibly upsetting for her,' said a source close to Miss Mills.

'Whatever she says or does now, Heather feels she cannot win - people are siding with Paul.

'But she is confident that she can actually prove some of these claims. Without going into specifics, she reckons to have tangible evidence showing that Paul not only verbally attacked her but was also physically aggressive.

'As well as charting much of the marriage breakdown on her digital camcorder, and having witnesses who will testify to her claims, Heather has another killer piece of evidence in the form of an audio recording.

'She is being quite cagey about it, but it seems that she may also have some kind of video recording of the pair rowing.

'It has never been Heather's intention to use the tapes, which she feels prove that Paul raised his hands to her, but if she has to, she will. It is dynamite stuff and if used, really could destroy Paul.'

The existence of the 'Macca tapes' emerged as Miss Mills visited her London lawyers Mishcon de Reya yesterday. Smartly dressed in green velvet jacket and matching beret and skirt, she left their offices saying nothing.

But the bitter war of words will only intensify with news of the potentially vital tapes.

This latest revelation comes five days after the court papers accusing McCartney of repeated violence against his 38-year-old wife were published.

It is claimed in the documents - exclusively revealed by the Daily Mail - that the former Beatle, 64, subjected Miss Mills to four violent attacks.

In one such outburst he allegedly stabbed her in the arm with a broken wine glass and in another he is accused of pushing her into the bath, causing her 'shock and distress'.

Sir Paul has already flatly denied the allegations and issued a defiant statement saying he will 'vigorously and appropriately' contest her claims all the way to court if necessary.

While publicly maintaining a dignified silence friends say he is privately 'incandescent with rage' at the allegations.

It is not known which alleged attack, or attacks, Miss Mills is thought to have documented on tape.

Such a recording is likely to be used by Miss Mills' lawyers as a key bargaining tool in the increasingly acrimonious £825 milion divorce battle.

But news of the recorded evidence follows an alleged phone bugging incident in which a private conversation between McCartney and his fashion designer daughter, Stella, was taped.

In it, the pair are understood to talk explicitly - and in derogatory terms - about Miss Mills. Over the past year Miss Mills has also been seen using a hand-held video recorder.

Whilst initially it was used to film the paparazzi, she has reportedly been using it over the past few months to film, in technicolour detail, the breakdown of her marriage.

Again, if called upon, it could be used in court to help Miss Mills gain a larger divorce settlement.

And earlier this week, former newspaper editor Piers Morgan - who introduced McCartney to his second wife - revealed the existence of a mobile phone answerphone recording in which the singer is heard 'pleading' with his wife.

The message was apparently left by McCartney following a furious row with Miss Mills which prompted the former model to flee to India.

Miss Mills's spokesman refused to deny that his client had video or audio taped evidence supporting the court paper claims.

Last night he said: 'Heather has got independent corroborating evidence for what she has claimed. 'In some cases this is in the form of witnesses but she has other corroborating evidence, but I'm not sure what it is.'

Rumours that Miss Mills hit McCartney - not the other way around - have been vehemently denied by her spokesman.

One report yesterday alleged that she hit her first husband. Her former sister in law , Diana Karmal, said she saw Miss Mills slap Alfie Karmal during a row.

Sir Paul's legal team are likely to closely study a book written by Miss Mills - Life Balance: The Essential Keys To A Lifetime Of Well Being - which may contradict some of her court claims.

In the court document she claims he refused to allow her to surface in the mornings before he was ready.

In her book Miss Mills writes: 'As a working wife and mother I have learnt that setting the alarm 30 minutes earlier each morning can make all the difference. It allows me little bit of personal space before the day begins.'

And at the time of publication - within days of the couple announcing their separation - Miss Mills writes in her book that she has 'a very loving and open relationship' with her husband.

In contrast, the leaked court papers suggest that at this time Miss Mills 'avers that the marriage [had] irretrievably broken down.'

In the legal documents Miss Mills also complains that she was expected to prepare two dinners every night, one for baby Beatrice and one for McCartney, without assistance 'despite her disability.'

But in an interview with Michael Parkinson in 2003 she praises her husband for 'bringing me breakfast in bed every morning, no matter how he feels. And I do the dinner, so we've got that agreement. It's thoughtfulness.'

interesting. again, and not to be snarky--a person just doesnt go into court with wild claims because:
1) you risk losing credibility and
2) you could be prosecuted for making false accusations.

I guess it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. It might also explain why Paul was willing to pay her to make her go away in the beginning....

Nah - I STILL don't buy it --

My first thought was "what the hell is she doing taping....?" that, to me, says she had to provoke to get behaviour out of him. I'm not saying the man is angel - I'm sure there were times when he was quite unpleasant - but I maintain that the bulk of her claims are bogus.

AND I just found a wealth of articles claiming Heather was the abuser, not Paul....I'm gonna post 'em....

More accusations: Mills, physically violent toward McCartney

Citing an unidentified McCartney aide, The News of the World said Heather Mills McCartney smashed chairs in the couple's home and threw a bottle of ketchup at the former Beatle in what it said were her frequent rages.

More lurid allegations about Paul McCartney's acrimonious marriage filled the British tabloids Sunday, with one paper claiming his estranged wife was physically violent toward him. Citing an unidentified McCartney aide, The News of the World said Heather Mills McCartney smashed chairs in the couple's home and threw a bottle of ketchup at the former Beatle in what it said were her frequent rages.

The Sunday Mirror said Mills McCartney may allege in their divorce suit that she believes McCartney abused his first wife Linda, despite the widespread public perception that they had a strong and loving relationship until Linda McCartney's death from cancer in 1998. The Sunday Mirror story was also based on anonymous sources.

The musician's spokesman Stuart Bell declined to comment on the allegations, as did a spokeswoman for Mishcon de Reya, the law firm representing Heather Mills McCartney. McCartney's lawyers said last week that he will “vigorously” defend himself against allegations reported last week in the Daily Mail newspaper that he physically abused Heather Mills McCartney.

Heather Mills abused Paul McCartney not vice versa, claims source
Sunday October 22nd, 2006 at 3:47 pm by LucyLastic
Heather Mills abused Paul McCartney and not vice versa as she claims, according to recent reports.

A source claiming to be close to Paul told the News of the World that Heather threw furniture and ornaments at Paul, insulted him in front of staff, demanded that he spend his money on a string of homes and told him “I’m absolutely gonna take you to the cleaners”.

The source told the newspaper: “For Paul the gloves are really off now, and he’s ready to trash her in court. He refutes her lies and is is preparing to detail HER appalling behaviour. The staff have seen it all - and we reckon he’s a saint for putting up with her as long as he did.”

“Paul spent millions of pounds on her — but she never appreciated it … If he turned her down she just let rip at him.”

“It was Heather who caused all the rows by constantly nagging Paul, and they turned violent. Her face would go red with rage. I have seen her slam doors in his face, and when he followed her into a room there would be crashing, banging and smashing.

“You could hear what was happening, and it sounded like Heather was the one doing the attacking. Chairs were smashed as well as ornaments. Then the housekeeper would have to come in and clean up afterwards. There was at least one of these a month and we’d all walk around with our tin hats on.”

“Paul always tried to keep his rows away from the staff, but you couldn’t fail to hear Heather screaming. We all knew it was another humdinger and to keep our heads down.”

The source also detailed a particular argument when the couple arrived home on one occasion: “After they pulled up in his Mercedes, she leapt out of the car waving her hands at him and screaming, ‘If you wanna get rid of me, do you know how much it is gonna cost you? Do you know how much you stand to lose? I’m absolutely gonna take you to the cleaners’.”

On another occasion, when Heather wanted Paul to help her develop her television career, she was heard to rant: “You’re an old man. You b***tard, don’t you care anymore? Don’t you love me? I’ve given you a baby - is this how you repay me?”

The source added: “Many rows came out of Heather’s hopes to make it big on TV. In summer 2004, she was even begging Paul to help her get her own chat show. I remember her saying, ‘I want a chat show on my own, everyone else is doing it - why can’t I have one?’”

Around the same time, the source detailed how she would leave the family home for weeks at a time: “She’d just suddenly up sticks, jump in her Porsche and disappear. Then they didn’t see each other for a week or even two and he was left with the baby. Two weeks was the longest she stayed away.”

“It was always up to Paul to make up, and get his wife back. While she was away he would always say they had a clash of diaries — but to us that was the codeword for they’d fallen out and she’d gone off.”

Regarding the recent abuse claims by Heather, the source revealed that Paul is “devestated” but that he is not prepared to take the claims lying down: “Quite simply for Paul the gloves are well and truly off. He will bring up her past life and could take this divorce into a whole new direction.”

“She is living in the realms of fantasy. Many of us have known Paul for more than 20 years and he’s not a violent human being. I’ve never seen him drunk with Beatrice and if he has a spliff he becomes your best mate, rather than wants to kill you.”

“There are many members of his staff, band and entourage who will testify to that. Heather should be the one doing the worrying.”

Interesting article, but this could be just a bluff on Heather's part. The strategy is to make Paul afraid of negative consequences for his image and to make him pay more money than he's offered so far. So... how about this article, for example?

Shattered Paul McCartney plans to unleash damning evidence in his bitter divorce battle with Heather Mills.

Hurt by her leaked court papers claiming he was a violent, drug-taking drunk, Macca has enough ammunition to destroy the beauty's lies — and prove that it was HER who was the violent nightmare in their four-year marriage.

For the first time since the showbiz divorce of the century started, one of Sir Paul's aides has broken ranks to tell the News of the World how Heather:

* SMASHED up chairs and threw ornaments at the singer in screaming rows at their Peasmarsh home.
* HURLED a bottle of ketchup at him during one blazing hour-long bust-up over dinner.
* RANTED at him constantly in front of staff, branding him "old man", and a "b*stard".
* SPAT out her chilling threat to ruin him in a car-park showdown, yelling: "I'm absolutely gonna take you to the cleaners."
* DEMANDED Sir Paul use his millions to buy a string of homes.
* LONGED to have her own chat show—and FANTASISED about becoming the new Posh.
* DESERTED bewildered Macca for weeks at a time leaving him to look after toddler Beatrice.

The aide's revelations come as Macca's former loyal PR man Geoff Baker — sacked by the star because of his suspicions about Heather — also blasts holes through the blonde's accusations.

Screaming

Our insider — who does not want to be named — told us: "For Paul the gloves are really off now, and he's ready to trash her in court. He refutes her lies and is is preparing to detail HER appalling behaviour. The staff have seen it all — and we reckon he's a saint for putting up with her as long as he did. Paul spent millions of pounds on her — but she never appreciated it. She became like Andy from Little Britain —‘I want that one, I want that one — wherever she went. If he turned her down she just let rip at him."

The aide said staff often witnessed fights between the two at the 64-year-old former Beatle's 160-acre estate in Sussex. They heard the couple screaming at each other, and furniture being wrecked in the living and dining rooms and kitchen from September 2003 — a month before Beatrice was born.

Our source said: "It was Heather who caused all the rows by constantly nagging Paul, and they turned violent. Her face would go red with rage. I have seen her slam doors in his face, and when he followed her into a room there would be crashing, banging and smashing. You could hear what was happening, and it sounded like Heather was the one doing the attacking. Chairs were smashed as well as ornaments. Then the housekeeper would have to come in and clean up afterwards. There was at least one of these a month and we'd all walk around with our tin hats on."

Staff dubbed the most vicious fight the "ketchup battle" in September 2003.

"One of the cleaners said it was like a tornado had hit the living room. Vegetarian food was all over the floor, lamps were smashed, crockery, cutlery and glasses were broken. But on the wall there were the marks where a bottle of ketchup had been thrown and landed just behind where Paul usually sits. It must have just missed him. They had to get special cleaners to clear up the mess. A very expensive carpet was ruined and had to be chucked out.

"This argument was the most talked about, but not the last. Those cleaners visited the house at least five times a year from then on after big rows between them. Paul always tried to keep his rows away from the staff, but you couldn't fail to hear Heather screaming. We all knew it was another humdinger and to keep our heads down."

Macca's aides also witnessed a terrifying row in the car park close to their main home on the estate last summer.

"After they pulled up in his Mercedes she leapt out of the car waving her hands at him and screaming, ‘If you wanna get rid of me, do you know how much it is gonna cost you? Do you know how much you stand to lose? I'm absolutely gonna take you to the cleaners'."

Staff believe that was the row which brought home to Sir Paul what a mess he was in. They had known for a long time — and had themselves been on the rough end of her tongue too often.

"She was called the Ice Queen behind her back," said the aide. "She was often rude to us. We all felt that she saw us as slaves."

Slaving

And she reckoned her husband wasn't slaving hard enough to make her a star. Once, when he tried to stop her haranguing him about her potential TV career at the swish Hilden Health Club in Rye, staff heard her rant: "You're an old man. You b***tard, don't you care anymore? Don't you love me? I've given you a baby — is this how you repay me?"

The source continued: "Many rows came out of Heather's hopes to make it big on TV. In summer 2004 she was even begging Paul to help her get her own chat show. I remember her saying, ‘I want a chat show on my own, everyone else is doing it — why can't I have one?' "

Dozens of rows were fuelled by Heather's desire to turn her and rocker Paul into an older version of Posh and Becks. "Heather dreamt of living like the Beckhams. She wanted that showbiz lifestyle," said our source. "She desperately wanted to do photo shoots in glossy mags. She kept asking, ‘Why can't we do that. Why are they in there and we're not?'"

She made up for what she saw as her lack of fame by trying to spend like a billionaire. In one heated phone call in March, Paul appealed to his wife to stop demanding he buy more homes, said our source. "He asked her, ‘How much have you got to have before enough is enough?'"

Troublemaker Heather, 38, would leave the family home for weeks at a time after bitter bust-ups from the summer of 2004 — often going to her home in Brighton. "She'd just suddenly up sticks, jump in her Porsche and disappear. Then they didn't see each other for a week or even two and he was left with the baby. Two weeks was the longest she stayed away. It was always up to Paul to make up, and get his wife back. While she was away he would always say they had a clash of diaries — but to us that was the codeword for they'd fallen out and she'd gone off."

Paul would be left to look after Beatrice. "This is where we all think Heather shoots herself in the foot," said our source.

"In her court papers she alleges Paul is a drunk and drug user, yet she's quite happy to leave the baby with him for a week while she goes off to America at short notice."

Macca's aides believe Heather's divorce paper accusations were a move to prompt him into handing her a whopping payout.

"When he saw those claims Paul was absolutely devastated," added the insider.

"He's still in complete disbelief at what she's said and is going to fight her tooth and nail.

"He's tried to call her but we're told she won't pick up the phone. It's crazy because we all expected an out of court settlement was close to being agreed. Now she's pushing for half of everything or holding out for £200m.

"Paul wants this done and dusted, he wants this dealt with so he can get on with his life and back to normality. He doesn't want a slagging match in court or in the media."

However the confidante did claim Macca will bring up Mill's past as a porn model and hooker — revealed by the News of the World — in court.

"Quite simply for Paul the gloves are well and truly off. He will bring up her past life and could take this divorce into a whole new direction." Paul's aide is confident his boss will prove himself innocent of Heather's claims.

"She is living in the realms of fantasy. Many of us have known Paul for more than 20 years and he's not a violent human being.

"I've never seen him drunk with Beatrice and if he has a spliff he becomes your best mate, rather than wants to kill you.

"There are many members of his staff, band and entourage who will testify to that. Heather should be the one doing the worrying."

not for years and years....I think its probably as a result of his depression over Linda's death. I think that devastated him and he never really was the same, and I could see a depressed man drinking too much and being violent and verbally cruel. yes I can.

he may be firing shots across her bow, but I didnt see anything in there that could damage HER, there were no accusations that she slapped/hit him, only yelled at him, and MAYBE threw a ketchup bottle at him...looks to me like a lot of the action occurred behind closed doors and in that case its a he said/she said situation.

I doubt she could install something in that house. There are probably regular controls by McCartney security people and possibly he's also in the list of British VIPs who are even under the eye of Secret Service.

I'm sure it wasn't a very calm marriage but in the public eye he's seen almost as a saint and she as a witch with a past as a call girl. She could go on attacking if she wanted only the money but if she wants to have some kind of future as a public figure she has to stop. Moreover Murdoch already proved he'll be on MacCartney's side.

She could go on attacking if she wanted only the money but if she want to have some kind of future as a public figure she has to stop. Murdoch already proved which is his side.

This is not a personal attack on you at all, irishgrl, but in general I'm starting to get the feeling that in these days of political correctness being completely over the top, the equation is always "woman + claim of abuse = truth", where the man can do whatever he wants, he will always be the evil guy. Even in the case of this woman who did not even hesitate to tell defaming lies about her own family.

If I'm now nominated for the "Golden Pig" award for this year's most chauvinistic statement on the Ledge, so be it.

P.S. And I totally agree with Romy - if she really had these tapes, McCartney wouldn't have hesitated for a single second and paid her a lot, just to make sure she doesn't destroy his image with the recordings. Instead he said "Bring them on", and he knows why.

I hope so, but, for this particularly case it seems very unlikely she has a chance without some allies. We'll see.

I dont think you are being chauvinistic at all

Im not saying Heather is blameless, all Im saying is I dont understand the automatic assumption that SHE'S the one at fault  Again, I said I can certainly see a depressed man being drunk/violent/abusive. I dont think Paul is a bad person at ALL! I've always admired the man! But there may be more to this than meets the eye ya know?

As for Paul being willing to pay any price to make her go away, I think in the beginning that was what he said he would do...and it looked like they were pretty close to actually settling amicably. Why she's now trotting out these tapes I dont know, but I think its a safe bet to say she is upping the ante and is very well aware of what she's up against, Im sure of it.

well, there are apparently witnesses for her side as well. She's aware public sentiment is stacked against her, Paul's a BEATLE for heaven's sake! a KNIGHT of the Realm! a Friggin ICON! and she? just a footnote in history.

Thanks for clearing this up, finally I *completely* understand what you meant. :) You're right, automatic assumptions are a dangerous thing, too - and of course a depressed man is capable of being cruel etc.

My problems with Heather's side of the story are her past and her timing. With "her past" I don't mean these silly pics of hers (why would anyone get upset about THAT?), but the fact that she has hurt a lot of people with her lies and that all these people have said that Heather will use every weapon to get what she wants. Sort of "If I can't win them over, I'll kill them"
And second, the timing makes her points very unbelievable - for months she has let her PR people leak stories about her that presented Heather as the miserable wife who is crying her eyes out because hubby left her. All this wonderful love of hers that the heartless and ungrateful McCartney wouldn't appreciate anymore (that's the gist of the stories by Mills' PR people). She would even stage these coincidental ( ) opportunities for paparazzi where she was the shocked damsel in distress, being locked out of her own home by her ruthless husband etc.

Why would anyone who has been abused so many times want to return, and even cry buckets of tears and lose several pounds because her husband doesn't want her back?

When all these stories, deliberate off-the-record statements of "close friends and insiders" and photos backfired and she was under attack even more, she now came out with a story which shows a lot of contradictions (McCartney's lawyers are closely studying her latest book and interviews for a good reason). To say it in one sentence: She's playing the sympathy/victim card once more, only with a different strategy. The biggest mistake Paul and his lawyers have probably made is to underestimate this street-wise woman.

Oh yeah - we were talking about two different articles - I brought up the thread starting article...but yeah -that's not the source that talks about the tapes.

I'll just be interested to see how this whole thing plays out. If she is exaggerating (I do believe there is some truth to this - as has been said re: the drinking and verbal abuse) she picked the wroooong man to try to take down.

A NEW wrinkle:

Heather Mills McCartney sues newspapers

By TARIQ PANJA, Associated Press Writer Tue Oct 24, 2:45 PM ET

LONDON - Heather Mills McCartney's lawyers said Tuesday she is suing two newspapers over "false, damaging and immensely upsetting" stories surrounding her divorce from Paul McCartney.

The law firm Mishcon de Reya named the Daily Mail and London's Evening Standard as the subject of legal proceedings, adding that a suit will also be filed against The Sun.

Mills McCartney had been vilified in the media and was now being stalked by photographers, the firm said. It alleged that other newspapers had also printed false statements but the three listed would be the focus of the lawsuit.

"She cannot sue — for now, at least — every single newspaper that has published false, damaging, and immensely upsetting statements about her. She should not thereby be taken to have accepted that these statements are true," the statement read.

Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail and the Evening Standard, said the stories about Mills McCartney in both papers "were obtained by proper methods and in accordance with good journalistic practice."

"Our exclusive stories were extensively followed up in detail by all other newspapers and media outlets," it said in a statement. The publisher said it would deal with the legal claim "in the normal way."

The McCartney divorce has become the most sensational marital breakup since
Prince Charles and Princess Diana parted ways a decade ago, sparking immense rivalry in the British press for the best scoop.

Last week, the Daily Mail splashed its front page with what appeared to be legal papers drafted by Mills McCartney's lawyers against the former Beatle that alleged drug use, drunkenness, callousness about his wife's amputated leg, indifference to her pain, and even an assault with a broken wine glass.

Mills McCartney's lawyers said British media claims that she has been offered a $56 million settlement by her husband are false and "the truth is that no settlement offer, in any amount, has been made."

"She is pursued everywhere she goes. She is stalked by press photographers, who congregate outside her home and chase after her in cars — regardless of her safety or the safety of her daughter," her lawyers said.

Mishcon de Reya issued a copy of a letter, apparently from The Mail on Sunday's investigations editor Dennis Rice, offering Heather's sister Fiona a "substantial sum" for information about the divorce.

It said the letter was hand-delivered and promised anonymity.

"It requires no imagination to conclude what kind of information was being sought from our client's closest confidante, nor why the assurance of confidentiality was believed to be necessary," the statement said. "We ask on behalf of our client for the media, as a matter of common decency, please now to show some restraint."

Associated Newspapers said the Mail on Sunday had been "led to believe that Fiona Mills had important information about this case and a perfectly proper and courteous approach was made to her."

well well well.............comments anyone?

^^

Yes - I STILL think it's bogus - of COURSE she's going to sue - but she still won't win...she doesn't have a leg to stand on as the saying goes.

I really think this will come out in the end - her psychosis will come out in the end....

Oh...and the timing of this? Her accusations came out right as Paul was going to push for custody of Beatrice. Shifty. It's bullsh*t and I believe Heather is a lying slag.

Yep...we'll definitely have to wait and see...Heather's own father has said she's bonkers....as have various other sources - the gal is going to get her ass handed to her.

So we'll have to agree to disagree where one HEather Mills is concerned.

Remember, this is the same woman who announced she was going to sue several newspapers for their reports about an impending separation of the McCartneys, while her husband was already preparing a press statement ;)

Oh, and Heather being hurt and defamed by lies? Pot, kettle, black.

I only posted it as another chapter in the continuing saga, and FYI, I dont have a stake in the outcome, nor am I rooting for any particular person. I made my position clear a page or two back, that nobody is ALL bad and there are two sides to every story and I couldnt understand all the INSTANT Heather hatred. A comment in general, inspired by this latest reply:

What's wrong with some of you over here? Being snarky all the time, not the slightest sense of humour and irony even when a thousand "LOLs" and smilies decorate one's post just to make sure that no one will be offended and hurt, and readily lashing out/accepting apologies whilst being unable to say sorry yourselves - it's really getting silly.

As a side note, sometimes people do not even take the time to even read the posts *carefully* but nevertheless a harsh response is posted quickly, because instant b****ng seems to be so much nicer than thinking about the writer's intentions and a respectful reply for a minute. This sublime aggression and quick temper in many threads is really starting to grate on my nerves.

I finally understand why some people are hesitant or no longer willing to post over here, if even the silliest topic about a troubled pop star is handled without the slightest intention of discussing it with an occasional dash of humour or at least the intention of accepting that *other* people try to see a more light-hearted aspect in it.

You don't have to share my kind of humour (which is perfectly alright), but it's a pity that apparently you can't even detect it and answer adequately without resorting to b****y undertones.

If you don't take the time to get to know me better, then that is your problem. And as far as your childish little threat at the end is concerned, you can talk to your child like that. You're not the only adult here.

I'm interested in having good talks with you (and you seem to have a lot to offer in that department) but I won't justify myself for what I've written (whether you get me and my post right or not) and I won't let a grown-up woman talk to me like I was still in elementary school. Practice that on someone else.

I calls em like I sees em. If you're going to post a snarky comment, dont whine because someone calls you on it. And you didnt fool anyone with all your smileys. You get what you give, plain and simple.

If you want to have a good talk, try presenting your point in an ADULT manner, rather than one that you know is provocative. I dont need to justify myself to YOU either. When you treat me with respect, you'll get the same back.

ps: I didnt threaten you. I was just pointing out that I didnt feel my previous replies were actually bitchy--especially by Ledge standards. Possibly you are being oversensitive? Or maybe even too judgemental? Yep I think thats it.
