View Full Version : Lessons you learned the hard way?

As a child me and my cousin learned that Mineral Ice and/or Icy Hot should NOT be put on the face.
I have learned that if you leave cooked Ramen out on the stove top for a week or two it forms into one mass and smells just like vomit.
So what life lessons have you learned...the hard way?

If you've been cutting up jalepenos, don't scratch(an itch) yourself!:D

That is a brilliant one...let me add a stitch...
Don't don't don't under any circumstances touch or go near your eyes after cutting up jalapenos or any form of chille
And another:
When your old drunkard of an uncle tells you, "taste this" just don't.

If you're a very picky eater and decided to take your own hamburger into a Chinese restaurant while the rest of your party eats Chinese Food. Make sure you don't glob on that yellow stuff like there's no tomorrow. It's generally not good ole' yellow mustard as some may think it is.

I FILL my pockets with that AWESOME hot mustard, when I eat Chinese, out. I make my own Chinese at home, and I NEED that hot mustard, baby! It ROCKS!

Well to elaborate on my lesson - I was probably 4 or 5 and to avoid a brat attack my mom just got me a hamburger before going to the Chinese restaurant. So I happily glopped on tons and tons of mustard..either the adults didn't notice or were as ignorant as I.
I bit into my burger and screamed bloody murder.
I was little and yet I still remember it so vividly. I have not gone near the stuff since

I TOLD you. But hey, I'm healed!!! Well, except that little mishap in the SYW thread re: John. :o And I AM heading out of town. I check the ledge/email etc. from my phone occasionally but it takes a helluva lot longer to type so I usually don't. But I just couldn't pass that up!!! :p

I also learned to recognize a true personality disorder in someone without a clinical diagnosis.... because they were considered a social "friend"!!

Don't ever date (or sleep with) anyone at work (that you have feelings about).... Extremely uncomfortable when you break up. And don't ever get your ex-bf a job at the same company where you and that guy works (while the ex-bf moves back in with you as "friends" - with benefits). Swear to God it happened.....
It was totally the Stevie(me)-Lindsey(Brian)-Mick(Darrin) Rumours tour situation (if Stevie had also been separated from a soon-to-be-ex-husband(Kevin)) at the time.
Yet, this was 10 years ago in my own life, and that seems like a breeze compared to now. Not relationship-wise, just life in general-wise... sometimes it's a b*tch....
I must sound like a total slut here, but I'm not, it was just really a complicated and difficult situation....for all of us....
and these are the days of our lives.....learned the hard way....

Ah... Ninth definition from the top.  http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=altoid+trick
- Here's something I learned when I was about 10. Putting a hot pan on a vinyl covered seat is not a good idea. Doing so will result in a disgusting, orange circular mark that will piss your mother off.

I think your best bet is to be friends and really get to know the person. Then date them if they're a good person and stable. I think it's people who don't know each other very well before they wind up in bed that get into the most trouble.

Never argue with a drunk.
Always read a recipe in its entirity a few days before attempting to make it. Nothing worse than getting to "refrigerate overnight" after thinking it would be ready in an hour.
