am i, like, the only lez here? i mean, 99% of the dudes who post here are gay, and that's sweet. but are there really no gay ladies? on this whole big message board? how odd ...
has anyone else noticed this? gay is so chic these days. but "gay" in pop culture never means gay women. it's like, we're all living in the same gay house, and the lezbos are in the attic training dogs and exchanging flannel shirts or something.
 just some observations.

It is? I think only in really lame ways, like Will and Grace. I realized a couple nights ago just how much people still really hate gay people when I was at the A's game and when the game turned sour, lots of homophobic comments came spewing from the fans (i.e., the Tigers are "f-g-ts"....which, maybe was a compliment, like "gay people are talented, composed, and can perform under pressure.). When things get bad, start yelling antigay stuff.
I don't think gay is chic, and even if it is, I'd rather have things like equal rights than movies with the obligatory gay best friend.
I'm digressing, sorry. Carrie, I think that gay women are actually pioneers in creating an openly gay pop culture. kd, Melissa, and Ellen's coming out set the way in my opinion.
This isn't what you're looking for, but I've always considered myself to be a lesbian trapped in a gay guy's body. Both of my partners moved in within days after we met. What's the joke, what do lesbians give each other as a gift on the second date: a U-Haul. Something like that.
Anyway.

Ok, I have a question for the lesbians out there. I've noticed an interesting phenomenon with lesbians that doesnt occur neraly as much among gay men. 2 ladies will be out together wherever and if someone goes up to one to talk, the other girlfriend freaks and like tells the person to back off. I know this doesnt happen all the time, but I was curious as to why it does?

There are a couple of lesbians on here - or maybe just one since Hillary left.
I hate labels. I've dated women and had some very meaningful relationships, I've dated men and had some very meaningful relationships.
For all intents and purposes I guess I'm "bi" but I HATE that term. I just follow my heart
That said, it's been over 3 years since any woman has captured my attention. My last experience with a woman was horrible. It left me shattered, broken and just spent. So I sort of closed myself off to that for a long time.
But I agree Carrie that when people talk about "gay" they are mostly referring to men. There was a story on NPR's Fresh Air this week about the Christian ex-gay movement - anyway - not one mention of women. None. It was all about men. What's up with that?
Anyway...I've not dated anyone in over 2 years - so basically I'm in some weird place right now - but I'm open to meeting anyone who is honest, loyal and just a good person with a good heart - man or woman, I don't care.
That said, I am really really freaked out by butch lesbians  I mean really. They freak me out.

Indeed - but there are a lot of people who do not believe in bisexuality - they think it's a farce.
Well I can honestly say that I have been attracted to both men and women. I have wanted both in both emotional and sexual ways
There is another reason I hate the term "bi" though - it's what it has become. It seems as though when someone is bi it's a ticket to be with anyone whenever wherever, regardless of you is hurt by it.
I knew this man in my hometown - he was living in a threesome, with a woman and a man. To each their own - but when he explained it he said, "well I was married to a woman, but I'm bi - so naturally I also needed a man."
Um. no. that is so not how it works!! No wonder we get a bad rap in society.
When I was with my boyfriend - I was with him. I didn't also need a woman - that is ludicrous to me.
I don't know - I'm not really sure how to explain what I'm trying to get at....

No, it makes sense when you think of sexuality as a continuum as opposed to one or the other. And monogamy as the least complicated and most intimate way to carry out a relationship. The other ways just don't fly.

LOL bad girls who seem so nice on the surface...:( I'm not attracted to the outwardly bad girls...well except for my first girlfriend I KNEW she was bad news but I just couldn't help myself.
The un-loyal girls left me with trust issues in relationships...something I've been working on for years.
Still at this point in my life I'm not in a place to date ANYONE - I'm trying to become happy with MYSELF before I let someone else in...I've made lots of progress..and now even think that it may be time, or close to time to try to let someone in...but it's been a loooong time.

I hate the term, too. I consider myself bisexual, but it's not something I really throw around because it seems to be a trendy thing for girls to be. I think a lot of young teens tend to use it as an excuse to make out with other girls while drunk, or because they think it's something that guys find hot. At least I've always found.  And of course, they're in the midst of figuring out who they are as a person. I tend to doubt some people when they're like 13 and all, "I'm bi!!!!11"
I've just always been attracted to both men and women, even when I was really young. It's never been one more than the other. It just... is what it is!

 that's another part of it - lots and lots of "trendy bis" as we used to call them. Girls who are not at all bi - but think, for some reason, it's cool to claim they are.

I'm gay and have been with Peg for over 2 years now. She's the best thing that ever happened to me. And we're totally monogamous. I've been in relationships where that wasn't the case and I always ended up being very hurt in the end. This relationship works so well, I'm very happy with Peg. We're talking marriage here :blob1:

Speaking as a former bi man (I took the full conversion to the other side some time ago  ), I can say that it was pretty much on par with being gay. People tend to forget that you do still like women, since they're morons like that. By the time I got up the guts to tell people I was though, I had started realizing that maybe I didn't really like girls, so essentially I came out again.
