OK, I haven't posted on the LEdge in FOREVER (YEARS!) - but a lot of you may know me from Enchanted. Just got back from Lindsey's show...it was amazing!! I really liked the new spins he put on the old songs (I'm So Afraid, a slower tempo TUSK) THe setlist is the same as the other shows. Totally loved his growling at the end of Holiday Road!!

Ok, so here's where the special treat came in...the encore...he did my favorite song...SAVE ME A PLACE. I have to say I went to the show with the intent of screaming "SAVe Me a Place" until Lindsey gave in (it worked for me at the SOUNDSTAGE taping!! lol). So halfway through it was really quiet and some guy yelled out "Not that Funny" (lindsey laughed) so I figured what the heck...I screamed "Save Me a Place!" And at first, he looked over at the guys and was like "Can we do this? Uh oh - THey are shaking their heads.." and he was laughing. Then, a few songs later, more people start screaming out SMAP (I was elated!!) and he said "We'll do it for the encore..." WHOOOOO!

I have to say, it was well worth the wait. It sounded AMAZING. I have some great video footage of Lindsey trying to teach the band (in like 20 seconds) how to play the song...it was hysterical. I think Neil Heywood has done the song a few times (hee hee) b/c he did a small guitar solo and Lindsey was beaming. I think they were all impressed how it came together so quickly. I'll post it to my Myspace acount or you can email me and i can send it to you ([email protected]).

ANyway, thanks for letting come out of the blue to post about a great show.

VERY, very cool. Looks like he's doing some off the cuff stuff now that the tour's getting a bit more comfortable. Someone should yell out "Book of Love" or "Walk a Thin Line"!

Naomi,

I did the same thing~ came out of the blue after 3 years to post about Nashville. Only fanatics would sit and listen to all of the details we care so much about!! OMG!! You got SMAP?? Or should I say that you made it happen? Congrats for making that special moment happen :) What I would do to hear that live~WOW

Was Kristin there? Did Lindsey interact with the crowd? He must be loosening up a bit though to spontaneously do a song like that. Glad you had fun! I'm going to email you~ I'd love to see that video footage!

Does anyone know what that poem was?

10-10-2006, 10:42 PM
It was the poem he always does before Go Insane.

I went to the New York concert too and I was estatic that he played SMAP. I loved the interaction between Brett, Neale, and Lindsey. The bit before SMAP was hilarious, but they were really jamming the second half of the concert and they looked like they were having so much fun. I thought Lindsey interacted with the crowd a lot, but this was the first time I'd seen him live so I don't have much to compare it to. I don't think he signed anything, but there weren't a whole lot of people at the front of the stage either. Our crowd only stood up for Tusk, GYOW, and the three encore songs. That was kind of a bummer. I wanted to rock to SHN.

Last night was pretty bad, we really didn't see the Lindsey that we were used to on the SYW tour. But we got a glimpse of him tonight in NYC, so I was really happy. I got to play his guitar at the end of GYOW, so what more could I ask for, right? Nobody else was playing it, he practically begged me to do it. SMAP was a great surprise. Someone yelled it out at the beginning of the show and he said he was going to try to do it later, although the rest of the band didn't really seem to agree, at least that's what Lindsey said. But they did it, so that was a very nice surprise. I was sitting up front and frankly I thought the audience sucked. I tried to remain standing after every song, when people would give the 'standing ovation' but once a new song started, everybody sat down again. I need to stand during shows, I hate sitting down. Eventually, Lindsey got people to stand during Tusk by motioning with his arm. People were giving him the love, and they were loud and appreciative, but come on people, you need to stand up and move, not sit there like zombies.

Great show, a lot better than last night.

At least they had done SMAP at Soundstage, so it had been rehearsed at some point during this century.

Now get them to do Loving Cup and I'll bow to you all in awe. http://www.neworderonline.com/Forums/Images/Smilies/bow.gif

I have no complaints, his performance was great. Since you & others brought it up though, I do have really mixed feelings about sitting through most of the show. To me there were more pros than cons though.

I was in front as well (not the radio winners); and also tried to continue standing, clapping, etc. but it just didn't fly :o .

But there was an intimacy to this show that I was really surprised by that I don't think could have happened if everyone rushed the stage or stood up, etc. I really enjoyed sitting down and taking in the slower acoustic songs without lots of feedback from the audience; NTL, Trouble, NGBA, BL, GI, etc. It seemed to me that a lot of people were mesmerized [self included] and after people sat down you could hear a pin drop...not from boredom but sonic awe. The crowd seemed to hang on every note, vocal, etc. I didn't look behind me too much but I think they gave lindsey some real/honest respect. Maybe he wouldn't have done Save Me A Place if the crowd had been amped up or different in any way? It reminded me of some big rocker shows I've seen elsewhere in the city perform in small clubs w/the same crowd reaction; like Joe's Pub. I felt privileged to be so close in such an intimate setting. Plus he's going back out for a 'rock' show in 2007.

BUT I do agree with you about the urge to stand/dance on a lot of songs like RR, IWY (love this live & the small cheering during the Will, Stella, & LeeLee Bits), WT (still can't believe people sat back down for this I may have been the last one standing down in the front  ), IKINW, Tusk (i simply could not to sit still for this :blob1:)

Maybe a different running order could help this or even it out? Like putting Go Insane & UTS in the first third of the show & SHN & RR in the middle? I don't know...But the performance was fabulous and that might have had to do with LB seeing the crowd sit back and really listen to the work?

In a way the show reminded me of Storytellers or Unplugged. I've seen him rock w/the crowd enough w/FM that this was very special.

Based on the other shows you attended do you think LB was bummed or dissapointed by the crowd? I hope he liked us...

Great show, a lot better than last night.
This was the only show I saw for UTS do you think the acoustics were superb at Town Hall? I sure did, I was blown away tonight...I'm praying a soundboard appears for this, but even a good AUD recording will probably be outstanding. Were the other shows in bigger venues? Which other shows are you going to?

We were in the front also but over to the side, and it was obvious that the front left side facing the stage folks were more animated...but everyone on our side was enjoying the show immensely, you could tell. I didn't stand too much out of respect for those behind me who wouldn't be able to see. We were directly in front of the speakers and the sound....it was amazing. You really could hear a pin drop during some of the songs, and I second the remark about the acoustics of Town Hall. Excellent. Very small venue, and gave the entire concert a feeling of intimacy. Like sitting in a bar, with padded seats, MUCH better sound, and sober (at least what I could tell) patrons.

I got some halfway decent pics - nothing like some that have been posted, but when I figure out how to attach them, I will.

BTW, didn't see Kristin last night, but ran into Taku 3 times on the street! :)

Pattie, it was great meeting you!

Hey now .... I was trying to rock out, too!! I was bummed that no one would stand as well. I saw you playing his guitar! He was saying something like "c'mon, c'mon!" to you! You did a very nice job, Vanessa! While you were doing that, I got a nice view of his chest hair ... it's getting very grey!!

Lindsey wasn't nearly as interactive as he was on the SYW tour. No handshakes, no autographs last night in NYC. I was sad. I had my BN album all set to thrust at him.

Did you catch him after the show? I had to head out and catch the train so I didn't stick around.

Did you guys see the fight between one of the roadies and the guy who grabbed the setlist off the stage?

Hi Goldie! :wavey:

I saw the end of the fight. Outside the venue security were talking about pressing charges against the guy. He apparently has 50 of them at home and needs one at every show. They were really pissed off that he jumped up on the stage to get it though. Some people do really stupid ****. Its a piece of paper!

I can't really judge since I was sitting in the front row, those are good seats if you want a good view, but usually not if you want good acoustics.
