View Full Version : nashville setlist order.. spoilers ahoy

well, omg. just got home from nashville. i'm totally spoiled now. i don't really want to see fleetwood mac anymore.. i just wish lindsey'd do this forever. but that's just me. ;)

anywhoooo.. for spoiler reasons, i didn't read the atlanta thread, but looking at it now i see that it's not in running order. i kept a pen & paper handy to keep track tonight, because my short term memory isn't so hot. i added some comments here and there. also, there was a clock on the side of the stage visible to me, so i wrote down the times each song began just for whatever reason.. it gives you an idea of how long the show is.

the meaty spoiler part starts here.......

For the first 3 songs, he was alone on the stage, spotlight only..
1. 8:19 PM - "Not too Late". (not liking this on cd, but loved seeing him do it live.)
2. 8:25 PM - Trouble
3. 8:30 PM - Never Going Back Again

band members enter the stage for the first time at this point, no speaking yet
4. 8:34 PM - Second Hand News
- After SHN, he did a little speech that I called "growing up". If you remember the article where he mentions fighting with his wife before she left to go home, then writing Cast Away Dreams.. you've got the idea.
5. 8:39 PM - Cast Away Dreams
- "If there were Godsss" Red Rover schtick
6. 8:44 PM - Red Rover (threatened to fall apart several times, but they kept it together)
7. 8:50 PM - It Was You (love this live. he does a little thumbs up, upward motion at the william/leelee/stella's heeeeere stuff, cute cute cute song live. short and sweet.)
8. 8:53 PM - Big Love (he put way more into it than i've seen him do with fm, honestly.)
9. 8:58 PM - GO INSANE POEM, wooohoooooooooo, then Go Insane. (Incidentally, he sang the verses backwards. Started with trouble in this world livin/dyin, used people winners/losers for 2nd verse.)
10. 9:03 PM - Under the Skin
11. 9:07 PM - World Turning (Taku had his drum solo, but it wasn't annoying like Mick's.)
12. 9:14 PM - I'm So Afraid (I like the new "style" this has to it a little bit.. Neil/Neal is doing some nice ambient things and playing in tandem with LB a lot.)
13. 9:22 PM - I Know I'm Not Wrong
14. 9:27 PM - Tusk (starts with background noise, then lindsey starts on guitar.. sings the verses before the drums even start. i liked the change, to be honest, since i've heard it so many times. tuggle's keyboard parts were spot on, with the horns programmed in.)
15. 9:34 PM - GYOW (same-o.)
Exit stage.. crowd kept a steady clap until he came back, approx. 1 minute.. introduced the band at some point right in here, but I didn't write that down, so I'm not exactly sure when it was.
16. 9:39 PM - Holiday Road. (I cannot believe it. I absolutely cannot believe it. It was great though.. he barked at the end, everybody started doing it, then he kind of flipped out and did a gnarllll and all kinds of crazy stuff and ended up on his back on the ground with legs in the air, then he just laid there. There were a couple times Neil looked like he was thinking, "um.. is he ok" and I actually heard someone behind me say that. I think he completely exhausted himself.. he was red.)
17. 9:44 PM - Show You How

That was supposed to be the end, I think. He bent down to sign a few autographs, and then got TOTALLY swamped by people rushing up with some Hatch Show print posters that were available at the merch table. The posters were awesome, and I'm lucky to have been at a Nashville show to pick one up. Anyway.. Lindsey's a clever man.. he would have been there signing forever, so he stopped when the rush came, went to the mic, and said, "want to hear one more song??" everybody freaked out, and a guitar tech brought out the Rick Turner acoustic..

18. 9:50 PM - Bleed to Love Her (alone, no backing band.. sounded great. everybody was on their feet and singing right along.)

The amount of energy Lindsey put into this show was absolutely amazing. I was so in love with the show that I was having a hard time remembering to sing along or clap, to be honest with you. He thanked the crowd several times for the outrageous applause, etc. he was getting.. mentioning that he hasn't done this on his own for a long time or very much at all, and that it made him feel very good. It seems like every song was a pat on the back for him, pumping his fists in the air and doing the Home-Alone "yesss" fist down type thing. Just screaming and going on. It was absolutely great.

Those of you who are lucky enough to be able to go to multiple shows.. I envy you. But this one show was worth the almost 10 year wait for me. I've waited a very long time for this night.. just like you guys have.. and I can say that one of the dreams I've had for so long has been fulfilled above and beyond what I could even begin to hope for. I hope he brings it back around with the next cd.. he's got a LOT to offer, and his fanbase is behind what he does - however unconventional it may be - 100%.

yes. i frikkin' love lindsey buckingham.

I'm really surprised he didn't do "Down on Rodeo"!

I was too, Blinker. I was also surprised at the omission of SGCYM. I feel like the crowd was made of "for real" Lindsey fans... but everybody seemed to really enjoy all the FM stuff he played. I would have liked to hear some more solo stuff.. but I'm not complaining by ANY means.

It was not a formal, stuffy show. Best concert I've ever been to, period. It was comfortable.

Great review, Sarah, thanks!

Don't mean to be the Debbie Downer here, but after seeing the t-shirts, I don't think LB will be adding anymore dates. Tom Petty's Leg One t-shirts had all the dates thru Leg Three listed on 'em - before they were even announced.

Bummer he didnt do Down on Rodeo, but Bleed 2 Love Her made up for that! I wish they had done that song on the SYW tour!

I just got back from Nashville too! Back from front and center. I'm not going to do a review, because Sarah did such a great job. The show was absolutely terrific! The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that he didn't interact with the crowd as much as he does when he is with the Mac. His demeanor was in some ways different, in some ways not his usual self. He didn't signed as many autographs as usual and only on the very left and very right of the stage. I found this strange. Did anyone else notice this? Otherwise, I have only high praise.

I felt bad for Lindsey that the entire back of the main floor was empty.

I was shocked to find out that Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were there.

Kristen was there.

I waited outside the show afterwards, out back and saw Lindsey get into the car. I said hi to K, she said hello back, but looked confused "like who recognizes me?". Lindsey hopped straight into the car, no signing, no waving, nothing.

That was a good thing, actually, because the three drunk, jerk-offs in front of me, A) didn't even go to the show B) Didn't even know the names of GO YOUR OWN WAY or DON'T STOP. They also tried to argue with me that Don't Stop was the name of the song used for the Clinton campaign??? As Lindsey's car pulled away, a drunk woman from a bar behind the Ryman started to try and sing Dreams at the car, but made up a chorus using the word Dreams over and over again... Appreciate the damn man, and his talent an.... well never mind, I'm sure you've all been stuck in that state of mind and wanting to preach Lindsey or the Mac to the masses...

On a great note, Taku was outside for a bit, talking with some friends or something. I had my mother with me, and she wanted his autograph, I shouted over some folks and told him that my mom loves him and wondered if she could have a pic. He kinda shrugged and grinned and said "sure". I think the members of the band really appreciate it when they are recognized.

The show was great. I found the song "Under the Skin" drug on a little in concert. Not Too Late, maybe not the best choice for the opener? Trouble... I think the version on Soundstage is better. NGBA = standard (miss the backing vocals by La Nicks). SHN = the only time in the entire concert I think Lindsey missed Stevie on stage... it was like, he was directing his eyes, his anger, whatever is involved in that song at this point, at thin air... I love the song, but I think its best served with that playful back and forth they do during that song on stage...

I am SHOCKED as far as he went with the Castaway Dreams speech last night, with K in attendence. Especially that line... "should be allowed time to mourn" (in reference to giving up on an "obsession"). I am in favor of calling this the "time to grow" speech... "You have to give some ethings up in order to let others grow". At any rate, the song was well done.

Rover = standard.

It Was You got the same results that I read fromt he Atlanta review and he was TICKLED when we cheered on the names of the fam. "Yeah, IIIIIIII...."

Big Love/Sardonic World/Go Insane = standard. Don't get me wrong, standard still equals the brilliance have seen over the years, just, nothing new. For once, though, I'd kill to see an 80's performance of Go Insane... maybe even put on the eraser top wig. Maybe we should all start wearing eraser head wigs to the shows and con him into it????

As said before, UTS = drug on... World Turning = THANK GOD FOR NO 45 minute long solo by Mick. I didn't mind Lindsey singing Chris's parts. Didn't she write that song solo?

ISA and IKINW were spot on. IKINW is definitely a crowd song.

Tusk = the first verse = eerie. Just him, very little sounds, and "why don't you tell me...." had a weird, but AWESOME vibe to it, then of course, the drums came in, etc. I like the pre-singing "Tusk Creep" he does up to the microphone before starting the song. I also like the end of the song "Victory Stomp". I miss train-conducter LB that we get when Stevie follows him on stage, but, definitely worth the trade-off.

I'm not terribly upset at Murrow being yanked. I was upset that we weren't going to get a replacement, THANK YOU MR. SPONTANEOUS at the end... A sidenote, before the show, by the bus, I heard a roadie complaining about not knowing a song and adding something at the last minute. I wonder if there's a new song added in VA, or if Bleed To Love Her was planned.

Onto GYOW, exit... no matter how many times i hear it, I never tire. I hope he feels the same way about playing it.

HOLIDAY ROAD WAS MY LIFE, and wow. Worth the price of admission... and the barks!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! At the end of the song, we need to get Aresnio Hall "woof woof woof"s going, no?

Show You How = better served in the show, not as encore, if you ask me. I love the song, but "Save Me a Place" has a place, or maybe he could "Say Goodbye" to us at the end?

Followed by the impromptu Bleeding...

I'd still give my left and/or right nut for a release and performance of Twist of Fate... I'm just saying.

While I missed DOR and SGCYM at the show, in hindsight... not so much, I have them on DVD. And whoever said it, this is definitely a FAN'S set list... good mix. I just don't get the complete dropping of any OOTC material. I still hear Soul Drifter and Countdown in stores or restaraunts to this very day.

Can't wait for CINCY and CHICAGO... may there be more changes to the set list! :) Keep us guessing LIDDY!

Yeah, I know it and that is how he was in Atlanta too. It seemed like it was a bother for him to sign autographs. I felt so bad that you and Kristen were not able to get your things signed. By the way, I would like to say how much I enjoyed meeting you at the concert. That was a highlight. I really felt bad for Kristen. That was her first time on the front row, and he didn't sign her stuff, or interact with her or any of us right in front of him. At least, I saw "old Lindsey," and he had signed some things for me in the past, talked, and was truly happy to be around his fans. I had told Kristen to bring the album, because he was always happy to sign things. She probably thought I was crazy after last night. She was devastated, and I felt bad because I got her hopes up.

I guess Lindsey is just nervous, because he is having to carry the whole show. Also, his wife being there may have changed his mood or crowd interaction. But, that shouldn't matter. She sees him ever night for free, and we paid to see him once in, possibly, a lifetime...solo. Maybe the rest of the shows, he will begin to lighten up. I hope that happens especially since you're going to several more shows and have made special arrangements at work, etc. to do it. He should really appreciate his true fans like us. I'm worried....who has kiddnapped our Lindsey.

My two shows are over now.:(

But, OMG, he was friggin' AWESOME, as expected. I have nothing to add to the great reviews already posted, so I'll just leave it at that. Holiday Road was definitely a favorite!

Hmmm, I think I have a tiny theory about the less crowd interaction thing. I definitely noticed it, too. On Friday night in Atlanta, I kinda thought that maybe he had a plane to catch back to Nashville, so he had to get going in a hurry. Last night was a little better, but not much. When I saw him with FM in Nashville in 2004, it seemed he spent half the concert grinning, making faces, winking, hand-slapping, etc. with all of us down front. But, thinking back, maybe he did that during Stevie's songs. Since he's on his own, AND, since he's OCD, maybe he's concentrating so hard on his stuff that he can't focus on interaction. As I said, just a theory. It doesn't really explain why he didn't sign as many autographs, I guess. I'm hoping for those of you that will see him in future shows that he'll loosen up a bit. I'm sure he's nervous right now, too.

Anyway, I thought his voice was incredible, and those of you going to future shows have something great to look forward to! I'm jealous!:wavey:

My daughter and I were lucky enough to be sitting to his right, and we got an autograph on the cool poster. And to think that I was originally ticked about my seats! Got lucky, which is unusual for me! Oooh, and I. Touched. His. Guitar. *chills* ;)

I've got a few pictures I'll put up tomorrow...forgive me...it's time to get my daughter and myself toward the bed!!! I'm afraid I'm getting too old to be a "groupie."

I thought with Lindsey, he would put almost all of the new songs into the set. I am kind of bummed at how much Fleetwood Mac Material is in there. I mean out of all the FM songs he drops Murrow...definitely a let down. Only down to one SYW song, but Red Rover is amazing live IMO.

I saw you guys front and center (you were on my left), and the great stuff you brought for him to sign. I felt bad for you guys too, I was hoping he'd sign your stuff.

He did interact with the center section a little... when you held up a sign for him asking if he remembered you, it seemed to me that he didn't know how to react to that, and it looked to me like he made a face, it was almost like he thought it was weird or something, not sure. Personally, I thought it was cute that you had the sign and held it up for him to read! It is obvious that you're a major fan, and I love seeing that!

There's no question in my mind that Lindsey was much more interactive with the audience during the SYW tour with FM, but I think that was because he wasn't 100% the center of attention, he could do that while he was just playing guitar and others were the center of attention.

There's also no question in my mind that both Fri and Sat nights, folks who were front row left and right had the best chance to get an autograph, and folks in the center had little to no chance. Not entirely sure why, but that is the pattern I observed.

Some of them were dreamers,

I really felt bad for Kristen. That was her first time on the front row, and he didn't sign her stuff, or interact with her or any of us right in front of him.

Regarding any lack of or decrease in audience interaction, Atlanta and Nashville were the first two shows of his first solo tour in how long?, so maybe he was nervous and will loosen up as the tour goes on and he gets more comfortable with what he's doing and gains some confidence from the crowd's positive reaction.

Although I too would have preferred more solo stuff over some of the familiar FM live choices, I am not complaining because I got to see Lindsey Buckingham perform live and in person, and I think he did a fantastic job overall. Amazing, really.

As for why he favored the left and right over center stage, is it possible that he thought the center seats were purchased through brokers at a mark up rather than direct at face value and possibly through the pre-sales? As in, he was trying to "reward" the people that didn't go the broker route??

Carolina Girl

Not Too Late, maybe not the best choice for the opener?

I think it was a brave and appropriate choice for this tour, and his vocals were strong..."what am I doing anyway...telling myself it's not too late."

Thanks, I held up a sign just like that in Nashville on the Say You Will tour, and he loved it, and he said he remembered me. He even told me where I was standing in Knoxville after he saw the sign I held up in Nashville on the SYW tour. This time, he seemed annoyed that I did it. Therefore, I was embarassed that I did it, so embarassed, that it almost ruined the concert for me. i think we're reading WAY, way, wayyyy too hard into the "oh my god, left side and right side over the center" thing.

the freakin' monitors are right in the center! i watched him walk from left side to right side around the monitors.. he just wasn't going to lean over them. that's all. i'd venture to say he has NO IDEA whether people got their front row tickets from a broker or not.

there was just a place for him to squat or lean over on the left and right sides. that's it.. nothing more.

10-09-2006, 01:09 PM
Sarah is 100% correct: it is all about where there is open space for him to walk over to. If there is a monitor blocking, he cant get there. It has nothing to do with not liking the people in the middle or brokers or whatever. My suggestion: look for the areas where there are open spaces (no monitors) as your best bet.

I'm not being "OMG, left side over right side." I was, never the less, disappointed as were the people on each side of me that he didn't interact more with the crowd. Also, I don't want people who are seeing him on future dates to be expecting that he will interact with the crowd as much or sign as many autographs as he does with the Mac, because he isn't. I was totally surprised! These were the only points I was trying to make. I'm not knocking the show; it was WONDERFUL, but Lindsey's demeanor is different on this solo tour for whatever reason....monitors, etc. It didn't stop him on the Mac tours. Besides, it is just observations about the show. No harm in talking.

Please know that you were totally appropriate, and you have nothing to be embarassed about!

One of my other favorite musicians, Bob Schneider, from Austin Texas, had a CD titled "I'm Good Now". When i finally got a chance to chat with Bob after a show and get his autograph, he said, "How are you doing?" Thinking I was being funny or cool or I don't know, I replied... "I'm good now." The words weren't halfway out of my mouth when I knew that was the dorkiest thing I have ever said - and of course it was in the presence of the ultra cool Bob Schneider. Bob gave me this look like, "Dude, that was probably the dorkiest think you could have said", or at least I imagined thats the look he gave me! But you know what, you just gotta laugh at stuff like that!!! We're fans, it's what we do sometimes. :)

And trust me, your sign was perfectly fine. I think he is in a different position in his life right now, married, with children, doing his first solo tour in so many years, etc. These shows are probably just a little overwhelming for him, no matter how big his ego is! :)

That's mu 2 cents.

No, no. I agree with the points about the interaction. He definitely didn't do as much. I think it's probably more to do with time than anything. I just wanted to make the monitor point before there were more and more posts about the left side/right side thing, making it a bigger deal than it really is. I think a lot of fans around here take things a bit too personally.

The words weren't halfway out of my mouth when I knew that was the dorkiest thing I have ever said - and of course it was in the presence of the ultra cool Bob Schneider.

Thanks for trying to make me feel better. :xoxo:

Sure thing. :)

And I'll tell you a little secret: no one knew any of the context about that during the show Saturday night. I only know because I happened to be close enough to you - and nosey enough - to see what you were writing.

Be thankful that you weren't at the Atlanta show with the freaky guy who smelled bad banging into you during the last several songs and knocking people over! Even THAT wasn't going to ruin seeing LB solo in concert after all these years! I kept telling myself, "you can't control what happens... but you can control how you respond to what happens. This isn't gonna take away from my enjoyment of the show!" And it worked! But, omg, that guy smellllled bad! :)

Just like the mousey-voiced girl in front of me couldn't ruin my experience. I mean, maybe I'm a bit of a vocal snob because of being in radio and voice over work, but good God almighty that woman's voice was so. annoying.

Every time she talked, I kept thinking, "shut UP, minnie mouse!" But she was so minor compared to the magnitude of the event I was attending. A Lindsey Buckingham solo show. :O

I hate when I'm beside people like that! You're right you just have to block it out and not let it ruin the show. Sorry about the annoying people though, you guys.

Did anyone else notice that the entire balcony was full, but only the first ten rows on the bottom were full. What is really strange is my friend wanted to go; she didn't know until the last minute; she couldn't get tickets!? Does anyone have any idea what this was all about?

I checked for tickets on Friday, just to see what would come up, and only balcony tickets showed up.

Yep, she was looking for one, and the only thing that came up for one ticket was very back of the balcony. Then, she said, after that, nothing came up. I was upset, because when I got there; I saw seats everywhere on the bottom. I'm wondering if the Ryman didn't release those tickets for sale.

I'm not sure why it'd say that tickets were unavailable. Unless the crappy floor seats under the balcony weren't for sale.

To be honest, I'm really, really glad I had balcony seats at the front. I'd rather be looking down at Lindsey and have a full few of everything going on onstage than have to look up so much. The balcony at Ryman is auditorium style so people in front of you don't obstruct your view. The floor level is flat, and after 10 rows or so, it's under the balcony. I wouldn't want to sit there.

Incidentally, I was the first person in the auditorium and seated when the doors opened. :)
