View Full Version : What's going on with Greatest Hits and Time?

I seem to be seeing the 1988 "Greatest Hits" EVERYWHERE and dirt cheap recently. Also, I've seen a few coppies of "Time" here and there which is rare. Anybody else in the UK noticed this and does anyone have any reason for it? "Greatest Hits" was in Asda and HMV for £2.99 and time was in Virgin and Music Zone for £6.99. Any ideas?

Hello Everybody!!

I'm a uk newbie and somewhat longtime lurker! Hoping to have some good fun here on the ledge.

Yes I have noticed this too. I recently got my GH cd for £2.67 duty free at the airport! Beat that! I now have No Questions Asked on cd for the first time, my life is complete:lol:

Theyre selling Time space in HMV for £5.00 and RAL US import for 8. Needless to say I got both!

BTW, When was the last time anyone saw SA on the shelves anywhere? I was beginning to think it might have been deleted!!

Best-of sets usually fall in the "midline" category. These are albums that are sold for less but are still highly desirable. Artists who have stood the test of time usually have a good part of their catalog in the midline market. This is why certain albums keep selling for years and years.

Just goes to show...not everybody has the same taste in music.

Let's remember that Disco, Rap/Hip-Hop, & Opera have fans, too.

And, let's be honest. "No Questions Asked" is NOT one of Stevie's better tunes. (but it IS quite a bit better than "The Second Time")

I'm a Fleetwood Mac fan. Stevie solo? Not so much. But, yeah, what was Side 2 of the Rock A Little LP, to me, was the best stuff Stevie's done solo (and, I agree with you about Side 1...with the exception of "I Can't Wait"...too bad that didn't replace "The Nightmare" on Side 2...thank God for being able to program CDs). TISL is her best overall album, to my ears. And, OSOTM should never have been made, it is a waste of the material it was made from (with the exception of "Rooms On Fire"...that was phenomenal).

Agreed on TISL, although Bella Donna is a close 2nd for me. Maybe even a tie. OSOTM is not a favourite of mine either...except for Ooh my Love and Rooms on Fire.

It's Fleetwood Mac, hell yes it's good. That's the thing about Fleetwood Mac, you can trust that the music will be good regardless of personnel. Sure, there might be a song or two on each album that doesn't strike your fancy, but overall, there's really no such thing as a "bad Fleetwood Mac album".

I agree. OSOTM, although not her best, was a very good album IMO. I love Stevie solo more so than mac but I do love mac too. TISL and Bella Donna are my fav 2 albums ever made. I have pretty much everything released that Stevie/Mac have done since 1975. I love everything of Stevie's except RAL and 25% of Street Angel was abysmal. Time was a COMPLETE waste of money, energy and basically pretty crap. Everything else kicks ASS!

Hello fellow chiffonhead. I'm sort of a junior chiffonhead though lol. Time- NO!! STAY WELL CLEAR!! It is AWFUL!! 1. it's Stevie-less 2. Christine's songs are so unmemorable 3. Bekka Bramlett tries to impersonate Stevie at several places on the album 4. Did i mention it's Stevie-less?

It's a good album to listen to whilst doing housework i.e. you can hardly hear it cos of the vacuum lol. It's so same-ey. It just drones on and on and on it's one of those that you can't wait for it to end. The worst thing about it is the fact that I actually payed £8.99 for it about 3 or 4 years ago. It has nothing to do with Fleetwood Mac reinventing themselves - but they went around it the wrong way. The album had no promotion, so what did they expect? For it to be a new defining moment for them

As far as I am personally concerned - replacing Stevie with Bekka was a big mistake. I don't believe Fleetwood Mac should ever have any other female members other than Christine & Stevie - I would feel the exact same way about "Time" if Stevie was involved and Christine was replaced with Bekka.

Just my opinion...

Well, not really, its just a personal opinion  and a guitarist is NEEDED in a band, another female singer is not. Tell me - would you have liked "Say You Will" if Fleetwood Mac had replaced Christine with another female? I know I would not have...

I really just think that it is difficult to change someones perceptive of a band after key players have left. Well, key players that one is used to listening to. That spark, chemistry and magic is gone that you loved so much. It's not to say that Peter Green is better than Lindsey, or Stevie is better than Bekka. They are just totally different bands imho. The reason I fell in love with Fleetwood Mac in the first place is because of the chemistry of the Rumours line-up. I'm not saying the other reincarnations are awful (I can't really pass ANY judgement because I have never really listened to them) but I just prefer this lineup.

Exact same with a cover of a song. I never got it until recently. My mother would always get SO mad when people would remake songs she listened to growing up and she would say...."Its not as good as the original". Well..of course it's not. You're used to hearing it a certain way...but people hearing it for the first time may love it. Same with the different lineups of the ever-changing mac.

did that make sense?? not to step on anyone's toes. I think the "original" way you hear it is more than likely always going to be your favorite and nothing will ever compare.

Or a cleaning lady.

I know..I wonder if they just "assumed" it wouldn't do good because S and L were gone so they didn't bother. I would think they would have tried even harder to promote since they had some ground to cover with all the band memeber changes.

Yeh but my point was that it's just rubbish. I could name some songs from it but wouldn't be able to hum it, sing it or fart it...it's so unmemorable. There is no amazing vocal performance, no enchanting lyrics and no soul. It's like someone has put together a machine to put the bare minimum of a Fleetwood Mac album onto CD. There is no WOW factor like we had with every album before it and every Stevie album ever made. Even SYW had a WOW factor on a lot of songs - even RAL did cos Stevie's voice kicked ass on it. Time was just not worth it. I keep expecting Christine to fall asleep during her own song - "The bright lights of the city are starting to.....(Billy: Psstt..chris..we're still recording..) Zzzzzzzzzzz". And something else, I forgot Billy was even present on this album. It seems all the members of Fleetwood Mac had either left, fallen asleep or gone to get a coffee during the making of this album.

Actually you know some of it is ok...I like some of Christine's stuff and stuff along the lines of "Black Magic Woman" but "Oh Well" is more bonkers than "Tusk" and "Albatross" just bores the living snot out of me. I don't really know a lot of the early stuff. I got into Fleetwood Mac through my Dad - they're his era ya see and then ventured into Stevie myself. I have to say, STEVIE WHOPPS EVERYONE'S TUSH!! SHE IS THE ULTIMATE!! Right ok..look u see I'm giving "Time" another shot...it's only on track 2 and I'm allready bored. Looking down at the tracklisting i'm thinking "God this is gonna take AGES!!" - i'm gonna have to play Bella Donna TWICE now to make up for it!!

I mean if I had my way The Black Eyed Peas would never had landed a record deal, Thriller wouldn't be the biggest selling album and The Goo Goo Dolls would be at #1 in the singles chart while Evanescence are #1 in the album charts and Stevie would be the most recognised and adored person in existence. However, thats not the case so there's really no point in goin there. IMO Time is a bag of wank. End of. DEAL WITH IT and grow up.

C'mon people - lets not argue, lets sing!

I don't care for sunny weather
(Ain't that good)
I like the change of seasons better
(Knock On Wood)
I love the feel of rain upon my face
(For Hollywood)
(Hollywood)
No and I don't care if the snow comes down
(Ain't that good)
Kick the falling leaves around
(Knock on wood)
Got to move to some other kind of town
(For Hollywood)

Baby, I've been your shadow
I'm on your heels both night and day
Baby, I'm getting warmer, I'm getting closer
Inches away
I've been watching every move you make...

Umm... it's not really possible to throw pans over the internet.
Though I'm sure you would have in our last little squabble if you could've. Since you're an expert on maturity and all.

I never said that did I? I just said I think YOU and chiliD need to grow up. He's like...really old. And you're...well older...and you're less mature than some of the kids I work with (i work in one of them kiddie ball pool things).

Let me put it simply, since the whole idea is obviously going way over your head: You haven't got a right to tell people to be mature if you aren't. :wavey:

Okay then.

The word your feeble mind is searching for is "your."

"You're" is a contraction of the words "you" and "are."

It's not possible to "act you are bloody age."

Can the moderators, like, ban everybody on this forum for a couple weeks?

I think that would help things a lot.

And in the meantime, ban everyone on Seven Wonders for a couple weeks, too.
