Before I met Derek, i'd never had a dachsund before. I was more partial to dogs that were a little bigger, but in the 2 years we've been together, our little one Clay has grown on me to the point that Dachsund's are my favorite dog. Ive never seen a more loyal friendly dog ever. If fact, my aunt, who breeds Samoyeds told me Dachsund's were known to be one of the best people dogs you could get.

i am on my 2nd weenie dog, my 1st was lil weaner marie, she was a long-haired mini & sweet as hell, it broke my heart when at 12 she became ill & i had to put her to sleep~ i am on my 2nd weenie now, she is a short-haired mini weenie named sweeney lynn~ she is super cute & spoiled~
my hubby had weenie dogs all his life & got me so into them i even have a weenir dog purse & 1 of daycare kids just bought me an "i love my weenie" shirt from their vaca...SWEEEET!!!~
they are 1 of the best people dogs & super smart, my dog learned to unlock her kennel when we took her on vaca w/ us & had a blast alone in the hotel:lol:   ~
I had a weenie too! A black and tan fella named Max. He was ridiculously smart and very loving, super easy to train and endearingly loyal. Man I miss that little guy! He was actually pretty robust for his breed, we got the biggest from his little. Max had this huge barrel chest that resulted in a deep, deep bark that sounded like something coming from a Great Dane.

My last dog was a Dachsund. Her name was Brandy. She was extremely smart, but also very hard headed. She died 6 weeks before her 17th Birthday. My Mom and I cried like babies when she died. I swore I'd never have another dog. I think we all know how that worked out!

My parents bought me a dachsund for my 5th birthday. It bit me. So we gave it to my great grandmother, and it promptly chewed up her hearing aid. So, she gave it away...then the people she gave it to brought the dog back! It ran away shortly thereafter.
I can't stand nelly little dogs. My grandmother had a chihuahua named Gypsy who lived to be some ungodly age. It lost all its teeth and my grandmother had to puree all the dog food. Oh, and the dog was incestuous, too. Had a puppy with her brother, who was stillborn with no hind legs. My grandmother buried it in a matchbox in her back yard.

Hm, well those are about the most off-putting dof stories I've ever heard. But you made me laugh, so thanks for sharing.

I think weiner dogs are hysterical. I doubt I would ever get a dog, but I sure get a kick out them. One of my favorite annual events at the local racetrack is the weinerdog races, where I took the following photo.

What a great thread! I've got 2 of them!
A chocolate girl, named Olana. She's 2. She looks black here, but she is chocolate. This is her "award-winning" costume. She won first place last Halloween in a pet costume contest.

And a black & tan boy, named Otto. He's 3 months old ... still a puppy. He's in his little x-pen here. Still potty training when I took this.

I love Dachsunds. I think they are so cute. Growing up, my Mom got one, but couldn't stand the hair, so we wind up with poodles instead & my grandparents got the Dachsund, Skippy was her name. I was upset when my Mom gave her away. I loved her. Every Sunday, my grandmother would pick us up to go to Sunday School, & then we'd (my sister & I) stay at my grandparents house the rest of the day. And Skippy loved to get her stomach rubbed. She was a little overweight. My grandfather, who she adored, would give her ice cream every night. Eventually she got cancer; I believe it was a tumor on her tail that ended her life. My grandparents never got another dog after Skippy. My stepdaughter now has a dog that is part Dachsund & part Chihuahua named Tito. That dog is all Dachsund though.
