I'm a two ish, mainly three ish stayer upper. Also, I mostly sleep accordingly. A lot of times when I wake up in the earlier morning, the lighting bothers me. It's fine if I have to work, I guess, not really - but if I don't, I often wake up, look out the window...and just feel really bad! Like I feel pretty unproductive, and usually a bit depressed. I look out my window, and get all sad and feeling like I could never get anything done right then, and if I did, I'd feel crappy the whole time.

People toss around the terms "morning person" and "night person", like it is an easily overcomeable whim that you choose, but really, trying to switch can be hard. I mean many times morning light (she says, when will I see you, he says, I don't think tomorrow baybeh!) really makes me feel very bad. Icky, just icky. I dunno why, but that is the most precise way I can describe it.

It contributes to my morning ennui that we often have morning fog...but that isn't totally it.

I like getting up early in the winter to do sunrise yoga (I know that sounds cheesy, and I'm not really like that, but the winter sunrise through my windows is so beautiful and invigorating. No, I don't know why, but it's true. I've tried to resist)

Another a good morning activity is the hill hike. It is very refreshing to bust your ass into a naturey, uncrowded, freshy morning hike into lovely ground. Sure, it's a challenge sometimes to get started, but once you do, it is sublime.
Naturally, I only do that sporadically. But I do love it.

My most best active time is probably between 3 or 4pm until 8 or 9 - and all the time after that. I can feel the general drop in the vibes of other people's energy late at night, and so can hang out with my own energy much better. All the quiet of very late at night frees my mind to think.

"Airy fairy?! Me?!" *gasps unbelievingly*

I hit the hay early (mostly by 8:30) and get up sometimes as early as 2 but mostly 3 and always by 4. I dont even sleep in on the weekends, because I have a 6yr old alarm clock  I like the quiet mornings so I can have my "me" time.

I grew up in the Bay Area and I miss the fog...but I get it here sometimes and then Im happy because my favorite sight is trees thru the fog.

Wow, it's like my schedule polar opposite. Literally. You wake up when I go to sleep. And you miss fog.  God I hate the weather here. Except right now. Fall is kick ass here.

But when you say you like your morning alone time, that is the exact same alone time I like, except mine is night alone time. Either way, we're up when "no one" else is.

Hmm, I was just going to bed, looks like you just got up. Yep. lol.

it IS pretty funny actually

the fog tugs at my Celt memory....I truly love it, its all mysterious looking. Sometimes when I drive down the Skyway, on foggy mornings, I get to see the oaks swathed in it. Also, the Little Grand Canyon (where the covered bridge is) has had fog just laying there and it looks solid, like you could walk across it to the other side of the canyon...and at times it rises in wisps over the highway and its just alive and so cool

I'm in bed by 11pm, usually up around 7:30am. I'd love to go to bed earlier and get up around 5 or 6am, as I was raised to keep farmer's hours. But my boyfriend doesn't get off work until 8pm, so that kinda puts the kibosh on that.

Can you function on that amount of sleep? Some people can. But if I don't get 8-9 hours, I'm in a semi-stupor all day.

Usually I try to be in bed by 9:30 and get up at 5:30 for work. On weekends, I stay up till 2 or 3 adn wake by 10. When I get 8 hours, I wake up... like clockwork.

actually i can, i am one of those on the go-go-go type of people~ if by the chance i can sleep 8-9 hrs i am in a hazy daze the rest of the day~ i was on ambien once when 1 of the babies i watch was shaken by her father (she's o.k. now) but it was so disturbing to me, i couldn't sleep at all, so my Dr gave me some ambien & i couldn't sleep on that either:shrug: ~ maybe i'm one of those "i'll sleep when i die"   type people~

my sleep habits are all over the place. i would say my most natural sleep pattern is to fall asleep at 3 and wake up at 10:30 or 11. it just seems as if no matter how early i force myself to get up in the morning, i cannot sleep until 3. i've been known to stay up till 5 or 6, though, and sleep till whenever. i hate sleeping late, though. i feel really unproductive and get really depressed. lately i've been falling asleep late and not waking up till right before i have to be at work (usually 10:30), and that really pisses me off. i sleep right through my alarm, or reset it without realizing it, and then i have to rush around before going in. for a while i was getting up at 7 and going to the gym before work, and i totally felt awesome. but the last two weeks i've been waking up right before i'm supposed to be at work. i hate that.

oh, i actually had a job where i had to be there by 6 a.m., and i lived a half hour away. after 2 horrible months, i finally started getting to sleep early enough (around 9 or 10), but that wasn't easy. i would still stay up till 2 or 3 on some nights, and that was just murder. i also had a third shift job, which most people i know thought would be great for me, but that was depressing. it is really hard to fall asleep when you know everybody else is getting up and living.

oh, and i can sleep forever. 7 hrs is enough for me, but i can sleep for 11 straight and still feel like i could sleep longer.

Good God - if I could sleep all the time I would...

Typically I go to bed between 11 and 1am. And I get up between 9 and 11am. I LOVE that I can just hop into work anytime I want...it really allows me to get the amount of sleep I want.

Lately, though I've been trying to cap my sleep at 8 hours....:D

I used to be such a night owl. Worked 3p-11p for years, loved it. I'd go to bed around 2am. get up by 11am.

Over the past 5 or 6 years, I somehow switched. Yes, I got a day job, but I don't find it tortuous to be up early anymore. Weekdays I'm usually in bed between 10pm - 11:30pm (depending on what's on TV  ) I try to get up by 7am so I can work out before work, but that only actually happens about once a week. It's usually 7:30 or so.

Weekends are hit & miss. If I'm at home doing nothing, I can easily pass out by 10pm. If I'm out & about or drinking, I can easily stay up until 3am. Either way, I'm good on 7.5-8.5 hours of sleep. More or less & I feel like crap.

All you morning people.:( I HATE mornings, and always have. I knew at 14, that I wanted to find a profession that didn't involve mornings(or suits). I usually go to bed about 4AM(give or take an hour), and get up between 11:30 and 12:30. I try to get up at noon, because there's an Andy Griffith on then!

I need at least 6&1/2 hrs, to not feel like a zombie.

Whenever. I used to really push it on the weekends and summers, staying up until 5:00, 6:00, even 7 in the morning before calling it a uh, night. If I have to be up for class or something, it really depends on what time that is. I try to go to bed no later than 1AM.

If left to my own devices, I wake up any time between 7am and 1pm, no matter what. I can get through a day on four or five hours. I know, I'm terrible. I hate sleeping in really late like that. I've been trying to even things out a bit more. I always say I'm going to go to bed "early", but then I find something on TV, or I get distracted on here, and before I know it, time has goten away from me!

When I was a bartender, I had a similar schedule, Amber. I would get home from work aound 3am and be asleep by 4am. But I usually woke up at around 9-10am and ended up taking an hour power nap later in the day before work. It's funny, but even though I maintained that schedule for years- after midnuight, no matter how busy it was, I would start to feel ****ty and tired.

Now, I go to bed aroung 10:30pm-11:30pm and get up at around 7am. The IDEAL for me would be asleep by midnight and up at 8am. :)

Yep. Stupid morning people.

You guys all seem pretty normal, cept Carrie. Except actually I'm surprised at how early everyone gets up, and how little sleep they need. I have to say I definitely wake up much better since I quit smoking. But my ideal sleep time still seems to be about 9 hours. On weekends I often wake up about noon, or 1:00. Rarely much earlier. If I'm up by 10:30 or 11 I feel like I got a really good head start on the day. I also nap pretty often. In the summer when I didn't have class it was hard for me to stay awake after work, like between 5:30 and 8. Coincidentally, there is nothing really on TV then. But of course, that makes me stay up late, if I've had that nap. Which is fine. I mean, it is really hard for me to be tired and go to bed, I feel like I'm missing something. Yeah, it's probably that I'm missing those 5 hours I slept through when everyone else was already up in the morning.

I have to say, when I cut the coffee or soda, I can sleep a bit earlier. But I only have usually half a cup of coffee. Whatever.

It seems like alot more women are morning people than men.

And caffeine definitely f*cks up my sleep. That's why I usually have my two cans of TAB for breakfast, and that's all my caffeine for the day.

Hmm..that's true - except my brother in law is totally a morning person.

Even if I go to bed super early I still can't get up before 9ish without feeling like ass - I HATE mornings - and am happiest when I can just sleep as I wish - which my job allows me to do...

I have my bedroom windows completely blacked out, so my room is near to pitch black. In the winter, I'll turn the thermostat waaaay down(like 55, maybe even lower), and have a HEAVY quilt on me. Wow - I keep my blinds open because I discovered that if no light seeps through - I'll pretty much never wake up  I think I have an over-active sleep gene or something - and I know I'm not depressed...I just like to sleep.

and I always keep my place cold because I LOVE getting all warmed up in my heavy blankets....I love winter sleep...

It's odd - everyone in my family (grandparents, parents, siblings) are morning people...

i come from a long line of morning people. in bed by 8 or 9pm... up by 6am.

and me?

i, clearly, fell off the turnip truck and rolled into my house. i can't possibly be related. i go to bed no earlier than 2am. i work from noon-10pm - so on workdays, i get up at 9:45am (unless i run, then it's 8:30am). on weekends... the closer to noon, the happier i am. i actually feel ill and out of sorts if i have to be up early. and i don't even TRY to go to bed early. and i've always been like this. as a kid, i used to stay up til 1am or so, listening to music on my walkman, or just wandering around my house. i've always loved being the only person awake in the middle of the night.

I go to bed so late, it is really starting to become a problem. I go to bed about 4:00 or 5:00am and sometimes I don't get up until 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I feel like I've gotten a head start on the day if I get up before noon. I just feel so groggy in the morning time that there is no point in getting out of bed if I don't have to. The only time I do get uo early is for work or for class (but most of my classes are after noon).

I sleep way too much! I just have no will power to get out of bed. I sometimes set four alarms and I still stay under the covers. It is my weakness! I just love curling up in bed. Even if I am not totally asleep, I love staying in bed in the morning. I always dream a lot. I like sleep for 15 minutes and then wake up and toss and turn... and repeat. All morning long! It is just heaven to me!

I actually like sleeping during the daylight better. I don't know why... I really don't like a lot of light. My eyes are sensative. So needless to say, I love the night!

Night time is my time! I can't explain it. I've tried to change, but it doesn't ever work out. I am a night owl and there is nothing I can do about it...

When I'm working, I'm usually in bed by 12 midnight, or maybe 12.30, and up again around 9am. In phases (and they are common) when I decide work is for loozers and I don't bother, I quickly fall into the "bed at 3am, up at 1pm" thing that is clearly my natural default setting. I am at my best from around 11pm till about 3am, when I get all my best ideas (like "it's time to give up my job") and I feel like writing novels etc. I am rubbish in the mornings, I never eat anything till after 12 noon, and I have yet to be convinced that stuff like "5am" and "6am" actually exist - they're just fabrications made by hard-working people designed to make me feel guilty.
