Just received this email alert from eil.com about the new album. It mentions that Lindsey has also completed a documentary about the making of Under The Skin.
Oh and it confirms with a quote that Cast Away Dreams is indeed about his lovely wife.
LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM
Under The Skin
2006 UK 11-track CD album
Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham will release ‘Under the Skin’, his first solo album in 14 years. ‘Under the Skin’ represents his fourth solo release following ‘Law and Order’ [1982], ‘Go Insane’ [1984] and ‘Out of the Cradle’ [1992].
Focussing almost purely on vocals and guitar with little percussive or production elements, ‘Under the Skin’ represents Lindsey Buckingham’s most intensely intimate work to date. The opening track ‘Not Too Late’ sets the tone for what follows with his searing vocals backed by a lone guitar. A similar approach is applied to his interpretation of ‘I Am Waiting’, the original of which featured on the 1966 Rolling Stones album ‘Aftermath’.
His minimalist approach also shines on ‘It Was You’, a celebration of the coming of parenthood that recalls a playground chant or on the infectious ‘Show You How’. It’s with ‘Cast Away Dreams’ that Buckingham delivers the album’s most personal & evocative moment. "On the road with Fleetwood Mac, my wife had been visiting me and we had a fight right before she had to get on a plane to go back to LA", he explains. "Alone that night in the hotel room I wrote the song. I phoned my wife the next morning and read her the lyrics".
Lindsey Buckingham plans to hit the road in support of ‘Under the Skin’ with a band line-up stripped down in comparison to the mass of guitarists that have featured in the past. He has also completed a documentary of the same name that features performances and an examination of his life and its influence on the album. A full album of rock material is almost completed and will be released in 2007.

i wonder if the actual documentary will be shelved until the 2007 release of the rock album or if that will be sold beforehand? i'm thinking shelved -- it would make more sense to chronicle the making of two albums back to back.

That would make sense to release it alongside the second album.
It's pretty exciting though, to not only have the promise of two new albums and a tour but also a documentary. Maybe Lindsey really is trying to make up for lost time!

You know what, if it's going to be the same contrived and calculated bull**** as the Destiny Rules documentary, don't bother. I am excited about new Lindsey material, but I am always weary about documentaries. Rarely do they actually show what you want to see as opposed to what they want you to see.

i'm assuming there was a ton of juicy **** that most likely didn't make it past the cutting room floor in regards to the syw doc. therefore, i'm guessing lindsey trusted the guys that made the vh1 doc and has enlisted the same team. wonder if this will also air on vh1?

I don't care if it's contrived or not, it's simply a nice bonus - why complain about that, especially if it's released on the dual disc of UTS?
You don't have to watch it but it's nice that he's made the effort, IMO.

i can't imagine that it will. i'd like to see it out there for everyone to watch, but i just really can't imagine they'd justify airing it. it seems like he'd have to prove some sort of broad appeal before they would. fm has that and it went along with a huge tour. lindsey solo, playing small theatres.. not so much. :(

All I can say is Kristen must be a saint. She has to endure almost two years of watching her husband practically eye f*ck his ex-ex-ex girlfriend for two hours a night, four nights a week and then when they do get into a fight.....this is the song she gets. WTF? Now ....if it had been, It Was You then yeah....good job Linds.....but CAD? It's a beautiful song, but I dont' hear I'm sorry, or I love you. This is almost as bad as his two dedications to her during the SYW tour.....WTWCT and Say Goodbye. If he was my husband I'd kick his ass.
(Then of course I'd kiss it and make it all better!)

But you know there could be some hidden message in these songs that only Lindsey and Kristen know about. Who knows.
And, from what I am reading, I think that UTS- although probably not completely- is mainly inspired by his new family and life. So Kristen may be all over it anyways. I do agree she must be a saint. Dealing with Lindsey can't be that easy, darling though he is...:xoxo:

That is what happens when they are making the decisions. Your decision is on whether to buy it.
I think this is an excellent piece of news. Lindsey Buckingham after a long dry spell is doing right by his fans, and I think we should be happy instead of second-guessing every move he is making.

A Now ....if it had been, It Was You then yeah....good job Linds.....but CAD? It's a beautiful song, but I dont' hear I'm sorry, or I love you.
I disagree with your perspectie. Castaway Dreams is a song full of sorrow and longing. "I have no faith today." First time I heard it I could tell it had something to do with life on the road and not being able to get home as much as he might like.
As for It Was You, it's very much a song about the wife too, as he is singing about her, specifically, and about their children. And by the way, Show You How has their relationship written all over it it too. I think this whole new set of songs that we haven't heard before is all about Kristen and the children.

You totally missed my point. I was talking about the methods in which he is bringing forth his new material, not the amount.
Honestly, I could care less about what methods he is using. The only thing I know about the documentary is what was written in that little article. I can't really complain about what may be on it, or assume to know what kind of footage will be included, etc. All I know is that he's made one, and I am super happy about it. The great thing is that Lindsey is out there and he's doing stuff and he seems pretty content in what he is doing artistically, and in his own life. He seems really focused and he's going out on the road and, well, I'll echo many people's sentiments: it's a fantastic time to be a Lindsey fan right now.

I can see that. The first verse is all about how is sorry that he can't leave and go with her he has to stay, but it's lines like the following that puzzle me:
Keep yourself out of sight
Farewell to the wishes that died
Look for me in the mornin light
Dancin on my cast away dreams
Magic one
All our dreams are done
I have no faith today
Sun will rise
In your newborn eyes
Just let me slip away
Trying to interpret anyones lyrics is an impossible thing, the words will mean something different to everyone and most assuredly Lindsey's words. I do think this album is a dedication to his family and the happiness that they have brought to his life; it's very evident Lindsey is in a good place now and I hope he keeps on rolling it out. God knows there must be filing cabinets full of his unreleased work. I say bring it on Linds!!

Yes, I agree some of these lines are a puzzle, which I think is common in Lindsey's lyrics. I wonder if "keep yourself out of sight" is him talking to himself. Lindsey and Stevie tend to switch between first and second person in reference to themselves, and Stevie even uses the third person.
In the context of a marital fight, the lines make a little more sense: "I have no faith today" is the line that shines above the rest. It's a typical minimalist Lindsey line that expresses so much in so little. After a big fight with the one you love, you feel depressed, broken. Is that what he is saying there?
As for "magic one," I thought he was saying "magic wand," which I took to mean this wand sort of wiped away those dreams. If it's "magic one," it changes things a little, or maybe not.
Lindsey always throws us mystery lines in his songs, and he is doing it more now than earlier in his songwriting career. It keeps things interesting.

I agree. All this negativity is truly pissing me off. Like you said, none of us have even seen said documentary and already it's being slagged off. At the end of the day it's a bonus to the records and tour. None of you have to watch it, but that one line did say it contains performances as well as a look at his life, and I for one am looking forward to seeing those at the very least.

It's amazing on this side of the ledge. But the negativity (also in other threads) comes bigtime from people who were nowhere the last couple of months. It looks like that they come and visit to spoil our pre-fun, just when things get exciting. Don't get me wrong, if you're not into the new songs you're free to share you're criticism, you know how I stand towards debate about music, but If I'm honest, stay away when you are here to out your negative opinion based on nothing. We've waited 14 years, I assume some can't handle this shower of Lindseyproduction.

I'm not being negative at all just discussing. But I think around these parts, sometimes Lindsey is like a bad boyfriend. You know, the one that says he's going to call but never does and then when he does show up he's got flowers and candy and you take one look into those blue eyes and you just go....ok!

Maybe all this negativity of certain Lindsey fans who've been waiting so long is comparable to when you give too much water to a man who's been dying of thirst. He drinks too much, too fast, and then pukes.
My life has changed a lot since I went to Soundstage in 2003, and so I'm not as invested in Lindsey as I once was. But suddenly we have all this new material... it has kind of blown my mind. For a long time I refused to let myself believe that he would ever do this because I didn't want to be disappointed again and now, so much is happening it doesn't seem real. Maybe it won't feel real until Oct. 3 when I put that CD in my player and go from start to finish.
Regardless, this is new material from Lindsey Buckingham. Even if one doesn't think it's his best, at least it's something. At least he's still putting out music instead of just resting on his laurels. Gotta give him props for that.

I agree. I remember watching a Grammy's show in Feb 1998 and hearing a solo album was coming out. We speculated so much on here and then...nothing. Until now.
I'll take this Oct 3rd album...but I am expecting nothing else. I have learned not too. Just take what I can get.

Did soundstage dissapoint you that much?
No, in fact it exceeded my expectations! Still one of the best shows I've ever gone to (if not THE best). Soundstage had nothing to do with it, although I see how my initial post may have made it sound that way.

Oh yeah, the "Not Too Late" documentary, I totally forgot about that!
I'm an idiot, obviously. I guess I need to watch that again.
What's cool then is that everything Lindsey promised us came true: two new albums, the documentary and two small tours, plus in addition to that a DVD and a live album/DVD. These past few years have been good times to be a Lindsey fan.

yes, it is on that set. It's very....ehh poetic and unpolished. It's an egodocument really, not a real documentary. In THAT perspective it's very original and fascinating, in a real "documentary-way" it's dissapointing; (we do not really see him work on the album and play with the knobs and tape, cutting it and play it backwards and experimentation on sounds and tile floors and so on, like on the Tusk-doc).
