My latest favorite was "Illume"
Originally I thought she said:
"Illume..like Keith's dad said, I am a cliffdweller from the old school.
instead of -
"Illume..like it dances. LOL!:D

Next time listen for it..it's a Keith Olsen reference..lol!!!

When I heard EO17 for the first time I thought she said "I will f*ck will an angel desire to please"

Me too!

"But never have I been a blue corn seed/I have always been a storm."

I think I actually sang that out loud a few times before it actually registered that it made no sense.

We've had several threads like this, of course I can't find them now for some reason.

For years I thought that "well I've showed you all my cards" from TTM was "Well I've showed you, oh my God, well isn't that enough"

Someone posted that they (or someone they knew) thought "pick up the pieces" from GDW was "pick up the pizzas." I still laugh about that one. :D

I have several

Stop draggin my heart around on "so you had a little trouble in town"
I thought was "ran a little trouble"

or is it the other way around??

anyway-NQA
"when I see him..I feel him-there's an intenseness, in him...in his eyes"
I thought was "there's an intenseness..in his arms...in his eyes"

paper doll-
"he says 'well I have forgotten you and your beautiful eyes' "
I thought was "your beautiful lies"

I don't want to know
correct: "finally baby-the truth has been told"
michelle:"finally baby-the truth is getting told"
correct: "you say you love me but you don't know"
michelle:"but you don't boy"

I know someone who thought gypsy was "you'll say you're a gypsy" and on "the chaaaaain...keeps us together"-they looked at me and said "who in the hell is shane??"

that's all for now. There are tons

I just had to listen to NQA. I was SURE it was 'in his arms'! :o

I have a few others too:

It took me forever to realise she wasn't singing "I'm waiting for a kneejerk to just something I must do" in Kick It.

I thought the line in Greta was "just how many odd lovers can one get to know"

The Nightmare is the worst for misheard lyrics for me.

"She paled in the wake" becomes "she failed in the way"

and

"Well, if she had flung out her heart against him
Then in all of her wisdom" becomes "Well she has love in her heart that gets invented all the wisdom"

I think I need to take a refresher course in Nicksian lyrics :o

Here are two howlers:

1. The first time I eard "Landslide" (back wen I was about 10) I thought se sang "And when I saw my reflection it was no cup of tea."

2. Then, later, when "Stand Back" came out I first thought "I need a little sympathy" (at the end) was "I need a little simple beat."

Me too!

"But never have I been a blue corn seed/I have always been a storm."

I think I actually sang that out loud a few times before it actually registered that it made no sense.

Ah yes! Someone else with the blue corn seed head. I somehow made it make sense to me until I finally learned the real lyric and then it was, "Of course!"

My friend thought that in Stand Back

"Like a willow I can bend" was
"Like a weirdo I can't dance"

 She was trying to learn the song and had written out the lyrics. I nearly peed when I saw that line.

Someone once said they thought "Enchanted" was "aunt Janet". Oh that kills me.

I know I used to get a bunch wrong but I can't think of them right now!

I've done that exact same thing, where u know it doesnt make any sense but you gotta sing something. My mom always played Gypsy in the car when i was young and I would sing "like lis-drives, maybe once maybe twice" and "to a room with sownlays and vapor flowers"

   You guys are cracking me up.

Ah, when don't I mishear her lyrics? I happily have been singing songs for years without knowing them. My best made up ones were from Storms, because they still made sense. I still don't quite know that one part in Edge. I mean, I've looked up the lyrics, but then I forget again. I just sing whatever same noises she is singing right then. Gold & Braid was another challenge. The whole "easycuhtheteassheseesa payethweh,anasehsehgoieyy,uh-sheslistowusadooway-waietheyalwayalltheseyeahs"

ahem:

"Living, through each, empty night. Identical inside."

"So I search to find a next affair - so I can truly win."

See? Those lyrics could work, too, right?

Compared to the misheard lyrics y'all have posted here, I now feel like a genius. But actually, you guys thought some good ****, mostly when I can't understand Miss Thing, I just sing the sounds rather than making stuff up, but you guys made up some funny ****.

God, the first time I heard SOTM I was totally mystified. Had no idea what the hell she was saying.
Which brings me to my favorite thing I heard a deejay say, way back when, before I was a super super super fan - I was 19, I think - Something about how if Stevie and John Fogerty ever did a duet, no one in the world would be able to understand what they said - most incomprehensible rock singers ever.

And that whole "well well like a willow, I can bend"? I had no idea what that said for many, many years. I can't remember what I made up, but never in a million years was it close to the actual lyrics. Of course.
I have a long, long history of not hearing lyrics right. My mom loves to recall those tales.

I still occassionaly hear "mounted lovers, watch them go up...and down..." in GDW.

That's pretty good...

I think I heard a "wheel" thing, too, in SB. Or maybe a "widow" thing? I can't remember, but when I found out the real words, I remember feeling pretty stupid, and going "ooooohhh! Duh!" Yeah, duh, as if it should be obvious, when really, most things Stevie says are apropos of nothing. She could be saying anything, at any time. You might as well make **** up, it's not like she's so cohesive and obvious with her lyrics. Lol.

I have so many misheard Stevie lyrics and the funny part is that I'll just sing whatever I think I hear even if it makes absolutely no sense or isn't even a word. She's not the easiest person to understand when she's singing. I'm sure I sing something wrong in every song. At least I'm better than I used to be since I look them up now when I don't understand. Here are a few:

-"she was just a witch" instead of "she was just a wish"

-"magic moment" instead of "ivory morning" (pretty much all of The Nightmare my lyrics are completely off)

-"pick up the pieces and grow old" instead of "pick up the pieces and go home"

-"she dances around on the boulevard" instead of "she dances around in a circle"

-"still I get this feeling" instead of "still I carry this feeling" (same with L&L, half the stuff I think she is saying makes no sense whatsoever).

-"I am my own mind" instead of "I have my own life"

-"My eye-make-up is dark and it's killing" instead of "My eye-make-up is dark and it's careless"

-"long clouds of white" instead of "long nets of white"

-"all the way that I do anytime" instead of "All the way down to Emmiline"

-"Your shinin' on an ocean crashing" instead of "Your shinin' autumn ocean crashing"

-"I would try" instead of "I would cry"

-"and they said" instead of "undoing the laces"

-"when the rainbow sheds you clean you'll know" instead of "when the rain washes you clean you'll know"

-"and it's still that subtle memory" instead of "in the stillness of remembering"

-"just like the one winged dove" instead of "just like the white winged dove"

-"it's been a gold and braid" instead of "it's a bit of gold and braid"

-"There's no pain and there's no sound" instead of "There's no pain and there's no doubt"

-"second place, second time" instead of "certain place, certain time" actually a lot of Seven Wonders is unintelligible.

-I can't being to tell you what I hear instead of "A wound gets worse when it's treated with neglect"

-"to a room with sun laced and paper flowers" instead of "to a room with some lace and paper flowers"

-"my love lives in a world of both pleasure and pain" instead of "my love lives in a world of false pleasure and pain"

-"Special knowledge holds truth best beleive it" instead of "Special knowledge holds truth bears believing"

-"Sounded good on a ???? card one more big time rock and roll star" instead of "Sounded good on a delicate white-ribbon card one more big time rock and roll star"

-The entire song Rock a Little is one big mumble.

I could seriously go on forever with these...

I just thought of another one which is nutso because it's from one of my alltime favorites:

"I never doubted...your beauty....unchanged..." instead of "I've changed" but in my defense this was before I had ever heard a live version. And I was thinking of the real beauty and the beast and how she never doubted his beauty while he was still the beast...unchanged. *sigh*

1. Though people said, "somewhat shadowed"
Her eyes, her mystery

2. You see a pathway
hand and hand from the doorway
Been waiting there all day
All these years

Like to make her better
Own her like a child

I always heard "Long nets of wine cloud my memory", instead of:"Long nets of white cloud my memory". I was like:"What the hell is a long net of wine???" but it made sense because I thought she wrote the song after rehab so her memory was clouded by "long nets of wine".

Another one is "I never doubted your beauty, I'm chained".

"Wait a minute, baby, stay with me a while, said you give me light but you never told me about the higher.....".

And then Peg's (my g/f) all time favorite (she teases me relentlessly with it: I def. heard Stevie sing "Just like the Worthington" instead of "Just like the white winged dove". And I actually said that to her when I met her in France in '81. You should've seen her face...... and you should've seen mine when I saw the correct lyrics..... :D ahem

To me, 'Moments in Wine' sounds more like something that would cloud her memory. Oh, that and the 9,987,176 Klonopins she was poppin' daily back then.

that was funny!!!

At the moment I can't think of any funny misheard Stevie lyrics - although I know they are in dark recesses of my mind. But regarding a related artist, Sheryl Crow --- when her hit "Steve McQueen" was all over the radio, my five year old neice (having no reference for that name) would sing "Steve The Queen."

Also, going way back to the mid-seventies, a big hit at the time was a song called "Rock The Boat."

The line: And I'd like to know where you got the notion
Heard as: And I'd like to know where you got the nose job:thumbsup:

Rhiannon - once in a million years, a lady like her cries tears.

I still sing it this way, I can't help it. Plus it rhymes.

Absolutely LOVING this one!

One of the best I've ever heard is my mum's version of Edge of 17...
"Looks like the white window sings a song sounds like it's sing"
What the HELL?

I thought "long nets of white cloud my memory" in Rooms on Fire was "moments of light cloud my memory"

Don't even ask me about Storms lol I've seen that a lot of people have problems with that one... I think I'm hearing a totally different song to what she's singing!

In "Sweet Girl," I heard "Who do you love to do" instead of "What do you love to do"

At the very end of "Seven Wonders" where she sings over the main melody, you know "Well if I hope and I pray yeah, maybe it might work out someday"
I heard "Well with my Bible I pray yeah..."

And the worst one is, I hate to say I thought this...
In "Love Is" where she actually sings "You've got the softest lips"
I heard this for the first two 2 three times until I realised no this cannot be what she's saying, for a start she's straight...
"You've got the softest tits..."

Yeah I know, absolute lunacy but what can you do!

well, I was playing a few of the demos, which are especially rife with mis-hearings. When the disc got to Castaway, a gal in the room made an odd face as if straining to hear the lyric. the lady asked me why someone might be singing "cast-a-rate"? It seemed that it was an odd song topic and what's with the extra "a" added in? I just told her that the extra "A" sylable just made it more lyrical and it fit the rythm better. I deliberately ommitted the info that the lyric wasn't "cast-a-rate".

ps....darn I need a spellcheck

:wavey: I know the thread is sort of old, but I didn't feel like starting a new thread just for this:

In the Cleaning Lady version of Sara, does she sing " No sorrowful sorrow you can have no more" or
"No sorrow for sorrow you can have no more?"
Or neither?
I've always thought "no sorrowful sorrow" but then I saw the other thing posted on a lyrics forum ..
