It is still fun, but Lord Child I miss the raunch, which I equate with Diss, though I think I won that poll

Anyway - off to felch and then have a snowball while yanking my pork and beans thinking about Diss :wavey:

Yeah, it's a shame he left, but I understand why he got sick of it. I'm mostly over Stevie and the Mac, I just stick around because there a few people whose posts I enjoy reading.

I never saw or heard about that one.

Yeha, I certainly miss him. He inspired tons of interesting banter, and provided me with hours of entertainment. Being so damned opinionated and smart, his posts riled up many. That generated some epic ****storms, livened things up, and upped the ante on intelligent exchanges. The level and frequency of informed and passionate debate has plummetted. Certainly a bygone era, IMO.

I suspect he went friggin postal or had some heavy personal stuff go down. He stopped answering my emails in June. It's okay. It's a sad but real example of the reality of internet only "friendships" I suppose.

Yes, I did and perhaps it was a tad "rude"- which was why I deleted my post. However, he did hurt my feelings by leaving. Which sounds silly in these superficial days of internet forums, texting, etc.- but, I'm not a child of this era at all.

So many of my social circle friends have come and gone, for whatever reason, that his leaving at that particular time really stung. What can you do...

I sent in my form to The Lavendar Conversion Council and have yet to receive my damn oven. I got some stupid reply that said,

"Anyone who is an uberfan of Judy Garland, Ann Miller, Liza Minnelli and Juney Allison is already, for the most part, 'out'. So any efforts towards a 'conversion' on such a candidate do not qualify for an official toaster oven."

Of course, I appealed the decision...

Hi, Marky!! :xoxo:

While I haven't been posting as much as I used to, it isn't due to any drama here. I have work issues, social issues, and have been feeling extremely lazy and have an overall "bleh" feeling.

Three things that'll knock me outta my funk:

1) The democrats take back congress in November.

2) I lose 50 pounds.

3) I get up the wherewithal/urge/desire to give my house a long overdue Spring cleaning..... OY!!

I am very much in a wistful, Galadriel-diminish-and-go-into-the-West mood as of late. *** yes, I'm a drama queen- whatever ***

Well, the thing is Josh seemingly was never really willing to cut her any slack - or at least the same slack he seemingly gave to other members. Josh also seemed to focus on the negative and never really acknowledge the postitive. But, that was his personage and much of his charm in that he was negative in a clever way. He was also so anti everything establishment it was funny because he worked for that very establishment. All those differences made him a great wit and formidable friend.

I mean who here did not have at least a partial love/hate relationship with Josh :wavey:

Congratulations. I was thinking of you last night because the current issue of Psych Today has a big article on Buddhist meditation and how good it is for your well-being. It changes people's brains so they have more cortex and can be as effective as antidepressants. It also explains how Buddhists see emotions as separate entities from themselves and thus can let them pass. Also, it mentioned how they view happiness as our right and have a lot of teachings regarding being happy. It was a great article.

If that doesn't happen a foresee the onset of the worst depression and sense of hoplessness that I have felt for some time. As it is, I am at the end of my rope with the current state of affairs. Here's hoping.

I hear that. It will be something like when Dubya took office in '04, perhaps worse though I hope not. However, it's not going to happen!!!

No. I tried to avoid that show at all costs, but a few eps slipped through. Not that one, thank God.

One of the docs I work with is going to an exclusive discussion with him Monday evening (I think it's limited to 200 people.) She's trying to decide on a question to ask. All I could come up with was "What's Richard Gere like? Is he that dreamy in person?" :p JK

I mean who here did not have at least a partial love/hate relationship with Josh :wavey:

Mine was more love than hate :xoxo:. He was only speaking his mind with regard to Stevie..he thought she'd become a tired imitation of what she used to be, and that's his opinion and that's fine if he wants to voice it. He employed a cunning, witty rhetorical strategy, and usually backed up his opinions logically and persuasively. I see no error in that, in fact, I appreciate and admire it. He definitely added spice to this place, so yeah, I still miss him too.

I don't think he cut her much slack very often, but he did acknowledge the positive enough to justify his disappointment and criticism. That's where I really connected with him on the issue. Frankly, how can one be so annoyed with an artist's perceived shortcomings and less than stellar efforts if one did not at one time think them to be capable of true greatness ?

In my eyes, his criticism was a great balance to the wide eyed fawning, and the pervasive attitude of "Poor Stevie, she has such problems and is so fragile...it's not her fault she wrote a bunch of crappy songs and got fat! And she's not fat ! Don't say that, it'll hurt her feelings !"

Granted, his, (and my) tendency to be coldly analytical and biting while ragging on her is extreme. That doesn't mean there isn't a truth in it, though. The reality of course, is that the real story lies in between the cutting version of things, and the do no wrong fanboy mentality. It's pretty rare that anyone can engage in the topic and understand that, though. I'm not compelled or interested enough lately to ruminate on the topic at length. But I do know that when I have, from the responses I have usually gotten (with some notable exceptions), I might as well be writing in Aramaic. At least Josh always got it.

Oh I know - believe me - I have been accused of blindly supporting her and I think my posts are contrary to that. In fact, I have repeatedly said that while her voice can still do wonders (see Circle Dance, Rock and Roll, B&B, Insider, etc.) - she rarely uses it to do so, perhaps out of an abundance of caution. I also loved the black dress parodies and thought a few cool ones myself. Yet, there are people who see only what they want to see I guess.

That's the one thread that has been continuously woven throughout my Stevie fandom over the last five/ten years- the disappointment. It's excruciating to know that she can achieve greatness, only to see/hear/receive subpar material.

I think the first Las Vegas tour was the ultimate example of this.

GREATNESS: "Beauty and the Beast"

DISAPPOINTMENT: The set list. The bridge of "How Still My Love". The set itself after all the press build-up.

Riding on the Stevie Yo-yo of Disappointment for so many years can really wear one down.

Yes, Brian- I do realize the irony of me going on and on about running points into the ground and then YET AGAIN running my "Stevie is lazy" point into the ground.....   Sorry, I'll never stop beating that dead horse.

While I disagree that "lazy" is the right word (if she were "lazy," she'd just sit at home and collect royalty payments), I do feel that she's way too overly cautious for an artist with such a solid fanbase. For whatever reason that may be.
And the endless touring does absolutely nothing for me... I'd much rather get a new album every year or even every other year.

I guess it's just my "might as well make peace with the negative aspects if there's nothing you can do to change them" viewpoint that keeps me from ever getting too disappointed when it comes to Stevie & Fleetwood Mac.

I agree. And the one thing that always kept me a "fan" of Josh's is his great sense of humor. He was hilarious. And he was usually fair too. He might rag on someone for something and then turn around defend them for something else. People mainly remember him for being a critic (which he was) but he was usually fair in his criticism. Yeah, he was hard on Stevie, but it was usually tempered with some really outlandish humor. I enjoyed it and I consider myself a Stevie fan .

Totally. I was also thinking that I should talk about millions of celebrities, but I couldn't, since I'm not up on their every bowel movement like he is. I also can't make banners, so there's that.

I liked the way he was the only one here who agreed with me pretty much exactly on political and social matters.

Also, the thing is, people miss him because he knew a lot of stuff. About a lot of things. So almost any music, book, politics, TV, whatever someone liked or wanted to talk about, he could talk about it too. I often wondered how he found time for so much TV, movies, books, and politics. But it was a handy quality for the board, because naturally if there is someone here who talks about the same thing you are interested in, there will be more conversations, and he knew about so much stuff that he could talk to lots of different people, many of whom wouldn't have much in common with each other.

His Stevie smack talk didn't bug me after awhile, I just rolled my eyes b/c he always did it, always said the same thing, and always was insulting some celeb anyways. Plus, Stevie is lame sometimes, it is just that I still love her lots anyways.

I never thought he was as funny as everyone else did, though. Not in a bad way, I mean I thought he was kind of funny. Mostly he insulted public figures using interesting phrases (often the same ones over again). I dunno, I just didn't get all the hype with that, though I thought it was mildly amusing. But he always did it, so then it was predictable.

Like I said, I miss him most for the conversations he stimulated from other people.

No kidding. I was thinking about that lately. Well over into a year and a half with no TV. I haven't seen a movie in a theater since...wow, maybe March. Most newly released music doesn't interest me. I am slowly but surely completely withdrawing from the world of popular culture. Every week when I get my EW, I read less and less of it. If Rolling Stone didn't do such interesting journalism, I would drop my subscription. How I was ever such a pop culture junkie, I will never know. I have almost zero interest in any of it anymore. I'm becoming the same, to a lesser degree. I used to care all about movies and movie stars, now not as much. I don't even really see movies hardly at all. I watch a few TV shows. A good proportion of which are South Park.

I have no idea how I ever managed to take the time to watch television. Now that I don't I feel I really gave up a lot of things that are ultimately far more important to me. The end result was unneccesary distraction and some unintended isolation. Which some people can really use. Not me, I guess.
But now I get a ton of books read, which I feel enriches my life to a degree I can scarcely describe. Also, my friends and I have become much closer. The real close ones I now see at least once a week. And I get to enjoy my neighborhood - walking to the store, biking around, etc. I missed so much - in terms of just enjoying where I live. It's become a big priority to me. There are friends who talk TV a lot, and I basically tune out or leave the room. I'm really more interested in the real people in my life.

That is funny. I've now officially turned down being on 3 of those reality design shows. I am so f*cking glad I never said yes. They never pay much anyway. It changes people's brains so they have more cortex and can be as effective as antidepressants. It also explains how Buddhists see emotions as separate entities from themselves and thus can let them pass. Also, it mentioned how they view happiness as our right and have a lot of teachings regarding being happy. It was a great article.

Cool. And thanks. :D

um I think there is a difference between the SMELL of soap and the RESIDUE of soap. most people would agree, residue is nasty because the taste of soap is bitter, and there is a slick feel and a tendency for fuzzy buildup from clothes to accumulate). the smell (or fragrance--and its not just for girls silly) is OK.

by the way, B.O. is SOUR sweat whereas just plain sweat smells salty-ish or pheromone-ish.

I need to make some outside friends in a really bad way, since I recently had to dump the few that I had (and the one I didn't dump moved to NYC). That might take some of the pressure off. This whole relationship thing happened at a time when I thought I was going to focus on making some new (different) friends and concentrate on rekindling my artistic spark and developing my spirituality, but that (especially the spirituality part) seems like it's being forced into the closet, or onto the back burner, or something. I'm not liking it.

No. One night, I posted a pic and my arms were up, and BTFLetc. said "nice pits!" and I thought she was joking, because who cares about pits, and she's a girl, so why would she care about mine? Anyway, I said something like that, joking, like "ewww, pits, you're weird!" or something, and then she was all in a huff b/c she really did like my pits and I had called her weird for it. Something totally stupid, of course. No, I'm not "sensitive" about my pits. But BTFLCHLD I think is sensitive about being called weird for complimenting my pits.

hot arms! well, i guess i should say arm, singular ... the other might be a weird t-rex arm or something.

I had a teacher in highschool with those, we always made fun of her. I mean, she held them out front like that, too. We had some name for her that was part her real name, part tyrannosaurus rex. Like, Harndenrexasaurus or something.

I'm starting to have shivers, he's still alive and kicking (I'm sure you'll love LB album Josh  ) what is this a plastic funeral?

That is so Marianne Williamson meets Beavis and Butthead.

Curious.

And since you'll never get near enough to my pits to ascertain
their scent, the 'stink' part of the statement is merely your scorn speaking.
Which, in itself, is wildly entertaining.

Keep pretending you don't care what I think...I find that wildly entertaining.

You're like an imaginary owner that gave me a bone, but laughed at me for liking the bone.

Anyway, leave me alone, if you're just going to mock my feelings and hurt them. Nothing to see here, move along.

No, I said you leave me alone, I don't have to leave you alone. I just didn't want you to say anything dismissive again, barring that, i have no problems.
I'm so lucky, you don't talk to me for weeks, but now this. This awesome banter.
I feel blessed now that you knew i was crazy all along, but have been humoring me by having conversations. You. Are. So. Sweet! :xoxo: It must have been torture for you.

Hey, how can I get one of these shows where they build people's houses to give me a house? Do you know? Do I have to adopt some kids, or get a disability, or have kids and a disability? Why do people who plop out kids always get stuff? Sparky? Maybe some kind of disease would do it. This guy I'm watching now got testicular cancer, and so he gets a free house.

The problem being I have no control over what you interpret as dismissive.

Starving unhealthy babies and tragedy will get you cast. It helps to live in a horrific tear down dump that isn't big enough for your brood. You have to be able to make the audience cry when you get some free stuff. And make the audience feel they are hella lucky they aren't you, even if you got lotsa free stuff. It's all about comparative therapy.

Well, obviously, everyone should be happy they aren't me. And I have three cats (I know, I know) so shouldn't that be good? Dump, got it. But how could the audience truly feel lucky they aren't me when i am so attractive and childless, with such a cute figure? :distress: I'll never get that free house. I should borrow all my stupid friends' kids, and sob a little. Maybe gain some weight about the middle, implying that I have no regard for my well being and no knowlege of nutrition. Then people will be afraid for my fake kids, that I'll feed them crappily and chub them up, too. I'll pretend we're the Dugong family. I mean, that will be our new fake last name.

They'll be like "The Dugong children all have to sleep in one room. Mrs. Dugong sleeps on the sofa in the living room. It's a struggle for her to make enough money to provide her kids with crappy snack foods. The Dugongs subsist mainly on chips and soda, the children don't even know what the word "vegetable" means."

Think that would work?
