I love this song! It is so catchy and fun and no one ever talks about it. It's like this song doesn't exist. So, I am bringing up the subject. What do you all think about this song? Love it? Hate it? I think it is a great little song.

I love it too.
it's one of those that is overlooked. it's also one that has intense lyrics hidden behind an uptempo beat...similar to Angel.

I feel your pain, I like it a lot as well. The lyrics are great. The whole "yesterday you were fascinated by - somebody else" thing really speaks to me.
I also love, musically speaking the
"He saaaays -
well I have forgotten you -
And your beautiful eyes -
We were off the wall!
We were mirrors!
Of our former selves - well..."
Nice vocal there.
It is a pretty laid back vocal for Stevie, but I think it is good. I like the beat, you can dance to it. While it isn't one of her super blowouts, I think it is a good little rocking song. I enjoy the lyrics for themselves, and that is a bit unusual.

I love it as well!
My favourite part it the "I Was Your Paper Doll - Paper Doll..." part - I can relate to that in so many ways...
Its is actually a very unusual song for Stevie, maybe that is why Mick left it off "The Greatest Hits" and used "No Questions Asked" instead...
It was nice to see them both on the "Very Best of" though

I love this song!! I really like the production. Does anyone know when it was recorded? I didn't think Stevie was involved at all in "The Chain" Box Set, where it appears so maybe it was recorded prior to that?

Paper Doll is sucha great song. This is a song that ive known for a while now and I love it. It sort of has a jamacian/hawaian beat to it, don't ya think? Whenever I hear this song, the beat reminds me of palm trees, the ocean, and sunny beaches.

Wow, considering everyone has said they love this song, I am amazed that it never gets mentioned on this board. I don't think I have ever seen anybody talk about this song before. Maybe because it isn't really on a real record?
I just think it is fun!!!! And so many of Stevie's songs aren't fun, they are serious, so this is a nice change from the norm.

I love this song!! I really like the production. Does anyone know when it was recorded? I didn't think Stevie was involved at all in "The Chain" Box Set, where it appears so maybe it was recorded prior to that?According to Rick Vito's Q&A (http://fleetwoodmac.net/penguin/qa/rickvito_qa.htm) here on The Penguin, basic tracks for "Paper Doll" were recorded in 1988, featuring what would become known as the 'Behind The Mask' lineup, for inclusion on 'Greatest Hits.' Mick, however, preferred Stevie's other submission, "No Questions Asked," and "Paper Doll" was shelved.
Then, in 1992, as 'The Chain' boxed-set was being compiled, the track was dusted off and Lindsey overdubbed some backing vocals (and possibly some guitar).
There's somewhat conflicting info on whether or not any of the other band members also participated in the 1992 overdubbing, as Rick says he had no involvement with the song post 1988, but Billy Burnette, in his own Q&A (http://fleetwoodmac.net/penguin/qa/billyburnette_qa1.htm), said that he, Rick, John, Mick, Christine, Lindsey and Stevie all participated in the overdubs that completed the song.
I absolutely adore this song - and such a departure from the usual Fleetwood Mac sound.

I think that Stevie must have re-recorded the vocals for the Chain Box Set version, because her voice is way to deep to be a 1988 vocal...
Im listening to the "Paper Doll" 1988 outtake, and the vocals sound very similar to the 1992 version, but seem to be on a higher range

i adore this song too and wonder why it is never discussed.
My favorite line is "and even if you did miss me, you never let me know. you'd prefer to be just a little bit in and out of love with me"
I also agree with amber (was it amber??) on the vocal of.."he says, well I have forgotten you and your beautiful eyes..." part.
although for the longest time I thought she said "beautiful lies". I didnt' know what that meant, but I went with it.

I think this song is okay. I like the fun feel of it - so not a FM sound. The main reason I like it is it is the only song that I can think of where she seems to address what fans and others expect of her, appearance wise, whatever wise. And how fleeting the affection is. It's a serious subject I would love to hear her address in her songs - the pressure to be beautiful, the pressure to be skinny, etc.
I like the coarse deepness of her voice, but I think the lyrics suffer at times from the classic disjointed Stevie vagueness. Exacerbated by the Kolonopin. But it's not a bad song.

I still say she says "Beautiful Lies" not "Beautiful Eyes". I don't care what the lyrics say, I have ears and I hear "lies". And, I think "lies" makes it a more interesting song....
