View Full Version : Any one else really disappointed?

Any one else disappointed as I am with the track list on Stevie's upcoming best of CD? I sincerely hope that will not be the final track list of the CD. I have several versions of every single song listed, why would I want to buy another CD of yet another version of a song. Thats a huge let down, Im sure other people would be able to make a better Best of CD with the songs already out there. I would rather have a remastered Bella Dona, Wild Heart, Rock A little or Buckingham Nicks than a Best of CD like the one that is coming out. I definitely wouldnt buy it, at the most I'll download the tracks if somone happens to post them on a website.

At least the track list makes more sense than the VBOFM CD that came out in 2002.
Since when did Family Man, No Questions Asked, and Skies the Limit represent the "very best of Fleetwood Mac?"
I swear to God, everything after Hold Me on that set was just pulled out of a hat.

disappointed it's not a solo album instead? yeah.

I have to say, I am pleasantly suprised that Long Way to Go made the compilation. Because I love it.
Otherwise the whole release is pretty lame. But the song choices are more interesting than I thought they would be. I'm also glad Crying in the Night is on there.
Buy it? No, not really.

I'd like to stress that this track-listing has not been confirmed, so, really, any nitpicking is a bit premature.
Don't get me wrong -- I'm not saying we can't or shouldn't discuss it. We just need to be mindful of its unconfirmed status.

Not disappointed, just not interested. We already have a Best Of CD and we have a boxed set. I guess this is some kind of contract fulfilling thing?
I think I'd be more excited by something like, I don't know, a reworking of Stevie classics featuring a symphony or something.

I'd rather Stevie release a greatest hits compilation for 2006 and then have her release a really great album w/ new material in 2008 or 2009, then have her release a so-so, hastily put together new album for 2006 just for the sake of releasing an album...so think of it that way :)

I consider the box-set as a serious collectors item/compilation only, because the casual or even often Stevie listener isn't gonna go out and buy that when they can just buy the single disk Timespace...so really, it's been 15 years since Stevie has released a single-disk best of compilation.

Yes, but she's only released 2 albums since then. I don't think Blue Denim, MLWCYM, Sorcerer, POTU, and Every Day warrant a new "best of".
I'm not against it, just totally not interested.
EDIT: Unless it results in a scaled-down, intimate venue tour to promote the CD. Then I'm interested.

Not disappointed, just not interested. We already have a Best Of CD and we have a boxed set. I guess this is some kind of contract fulfilling thing?Well, something that really should be taken into account is the fact that, while we do already have a "best of" CD, it's been 15 years since 'Timespace' was released. It's also been 8 years since 'Enchanted.'
A "best of" released well over a decade ago is basically considered to be obsolete by a record company, and boxed-sets, no matter how reasonably priced, never sell as well as 1-disc compilations.
And while she's only released two studio albums since 'Timespace,' there have been eight singles in that time ("Maybe Love," "Blue Denim," "Twisted," "Reconsider Me," "If You Ever Did Believe," "Every Day," "Planets of the Universe" and "Sorcerer").
Releasing a new "best of" gives the record company a chance to inexpensively shine a light on Stevie's back catalog again: with just a small amount of promotion (most of which will come in the form of reviews and/or ads in the various magazines, like Billboard, People and Rolling Stone), and the set will probably move a few hundred-thousand units while also cross-promoting her old albums.
It's nothing new for the die-hards, but it's smart from a business standpoint.

Jeez you people bitch about everything! Its a Very Best Of for goodness sake! It was never going to have 'rarities' on it - its made for the mainstream. We had our release of rarities with "Enchanted".
I think its a great idea to release a current "Very Best of" that showcases that Stevie was just more than the 80s hits. It will also prompt fans to go out and buy full Stevie albums...
Its bloody hard to please you people :distress:

I was thinking the same thing, Michael. :) Its a VBO/GH album....its not going to have rarities! I am so thrilled with Crying in the Night and Long Way to Go......I will buy it just for those two songs. This is a label thing....a way for them to make money. They aren't going to make money selling obscure songs and demos. Nobody likes that stuff but us and this release is not "for" hard cores. I do not think she needs another GH package but it seems to be standard practice.

Where is this all coming from? People aren't posting saying that a commerical Best Of album needs to be filled with rarities. Most of us are saying we aren't interested in a CD that has nothing new or different. And since Crying In the Night is on there, that means rarities were/are allowed and so it's fair for fans to discuss other ones that they would like to see included and to express disappointment there aren't more.

I also really would like to see a NEW shot of Stevie for this cover. It seems like she hasn't done any promo pictures in forever (probably since she hasn't released anything in forever:lol:  But I really hope they don't pull out some tired photo for the cover that we've all seen a zillion times...

I don't think I knew that these three were ever released as singles. Probably because they didn't even make the Hot 100. I might have prefered "Touched by an Angel" or "Somebody Stand By Me". I found pictures for Reconsider Me and If You Ever Did Believe, but does anyone have a picture of the Twisted single?

I think Twisted may have just been a radio issued track, or single. I've heard it tons on the radio here.
I think it's a good idea to put this collection out there and have something out that's new on the shelf and updated. Enchanted, like most would agree, can't really be considered a "best of" in the traditional sense - and one that can easily be purchased, cause it can't! So from '91 till now to have an updated "best of" or hits collection, makes sense. She's been fairly active in the last few years (playing only her hits anyway), and this looks to be gathering most of the singles in one collection. A few are missing, but the biggest ones are all there.
I say bring it on...

If that's the final set list, this "Best of" CD is a complete waste of time in my book.
Several of those songs have already been on best of compilations and such and there's other material on TISL that is as deserving or more deserving for consideration on such a CD (*cough* "Fall From Grace" *cough*).
Of course, I bet the completists and the dyed in the wool fans would still jump all over it.

The Nightmare is not that unlikely...especially if Stevie wanted it on Enchanted. She may have insisted that it be included on her best of, and maybe that's why so many of the other tracks are radio edits - to leave room for her remix of The Nightmare. Also, Stevie herself remixed The Nightmare....so why wouldn't she want to include it?
I know lots of people swear that Stevie hates all of her own material from 1985-1995 but I just don't believe it myself, and seeing this remix of the Nightmare is perfectly logical.
However....a good point has been made in that there has been no tracklisting from any official source.

I say that because the artist usually doesn't have a ton of input on these Rhino compilations. The Nightmare wasn't even close to being a hit, and even most fans think the song's a bit of a joke (although I myself love it.) "Stevie at her cut & poaste best" I've heard it described as (Sparky? It's an import from Europe and I think it's because these songs are the only ones published by EMI in Europe. Same reason why The Wild Heart got that repackage a few years ago out of Holland or something like that.

I was pleasantly surprised by the tracklist, actually, I thought it was going to be an all-hits compilation. And you can only fit so many songs on a single disc, so I think the balance between hits and lesser known favorites has been done pretty well. And the inclusion of Crying In The Night and the 12" of the Nightmare is a bonus, I love the remixed Nightmare, so much better than the album version (in the same way that the extended Rock a little is way better than the album version).
and yes, of course I already have all the songs several times, but it is a Best Of album, not an anthology of any sorts, so it's for those that may not have any Stevie albums at all and not specifically geared towards the hardcore fan.
In my case, i will get both the European and US versions because I am a completist with too much money lol

There are even some pleasant surprises in there (CITN, LWTG, IYEDB). One thing I've learned from this board, you can't please everyone. In fact, most people are going to bitch no matter what.
I will most certainly be purchasing this album! For me, that's what being a hard core dedicated fan is all about. Sure, I could burn this exact CD myself at home but I'd rather own everything she officially (or unofficially) releases.

No, that's not correct. At least in Germany, all of Stevie's albums were regularly released at the time. I suppose the track list you talked about is the result of a lack of interest in a quality product on EMI's part and the fact that The Wild Heart and OSOTM sold quite well over here. Plus, it includes some of Stevie's best-known singles (as far as Europe is concerned), i.e. Stand Back, If Anyone Falls and Rooms On Fire. Like "Let's include the radio hits and some other stuff from those albums in particular, maybe someone will buy them too". But this is just another speculation. :)

Yeah, it is an import. It's a Dutch compilation. And I wasn't talking about any track list, nor my particular lack of interest in one, I was simply replying to a question as to why only those two albums were used when pulling tracks to make up the Divine set.

Regarding the upcoming "best of," my preference would be at least one new song, but I'll be pleased if it features some of the single edits/mixes, since many will be making their digital debut (much like "Rhiannon," "Over My Head," "Think About Me" and "Sisters Of The Moon" on 'The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac').

I've become very disillusioned with La Nicks the last few years. She seems content to simply dole out the old recycled songs, and think her fans will be happy to accept that. I can't find the recent interview where she openly admits to it, but for someone so massively talented, to simply sell out and expect us to still buy a CD for the new artwork....very disappointing!
However much I have loved the woman's music over the last 30 years, I have no interest in going to see her again, or buy anything that isn't the same-ole, same-ole..... She needs to either retire or give us something worthwhile. Heck, I'd even settle for the old unreleased demos being re-recorded at this point...

Heck, I'd even settle for the old unreleased demos being re-recorded at this point...
well, I'm curious as to how a "Best of" makes her a sellout. her last "Best of", with the exception of Enchanted, was about 15 years ago. an updated one is due. on top of that, if the current reports are true, Crying In the Night is due to be on this new release as well as mixes that are rare and hard to find.
In my opinion, she does give us something worthwhile. she's been touring almost nonstop since 2003 and has added some nice songs back into the setlist and covered a few others. for ****, she's doing Insider with Tom Petty live...hello!!! we all wished for this and it finally happens. yet, she's still churning out the same old ****?
to me, an artist doesn't have to churn out an album every 2 years to matter. the whole "release something new or retire" is getting old.

Well, something that really should be taken into account is the fact that, while we do already have a "best of" CD, it's been 15 years since 'Timespace' was released.
You got that right!

Exactly how I feel :( . Her new CD (if it comes out the way most people think it will) feels like such a let down, I would expect something much more than recycled old songs.

Is Stevie supposed to record albums until the day she dies? I think she has earned the right to enjoy her life and make the decisions that make her happy now. She has given us alot of music in the last three/four decades and if she wants to focus on something else for a change and not recording, I am ok with that. Touring because she is enjoys singing and doesn't want to give it up totally, is fine with me too. She doesn't have to retire from performing just because she may not be up for writing and recording new songs. I would never expect her to.
