I've been following the sales everyday on amazon and have watched Under the Skin go from around #2000 a couple of weeks ago to #178 today. What are the chances of it reaching #1 at some point? I haven't bought any copies yet and plan on buying one for myself and probably another two for family members. just a thought :)

Does anybody really even want Lindsey to suddenyl become super popular? We sure know Lindsey doesn't want that!

Are you kidding me? He wants it just as much as anyone else  If not, why does he keep running back to FM to get his stuff released

slim to none.

with the exception of bob dylan this week, #1 chart position is usually an indication of garbage.

unless a single on Under The Skin turns out to be a surprise runaway radio hit single, i wouldn't even entertain the idea of a #1 album.

but i think something in the top 50 would be really nice for lindsey.

having said all that, i do believe that because of the exposure during the Dance and Say You Will tours, this will be Lindsey's biggest solo seller.

No, he won't hit #1 and he may not place very well unless the promotional machine cranks up... And soon!!

He's an artist with basically no profile on his own - who knows, it could be a building thing once he gets out on the road, but he's not really going to be on the road for a long time and we still haven't heard if the label is servicing radio with a single. It would give him a huge push if he hits one or two or all 4 of the late night talk shows, which I think he should do when he's in the NY area and in CA.

Here in the UK "Down on Rodeo" certainly has the potenial to be a number one, with the right hype and air play it would go down very well in my opinion. Off course that is never going to happen.

It's one of those songs with a really hooking melody line and riff. You don't have to be a lindsey/mac fan to like it. 50 Cent fans would probably find it catchy. It's a shame his album won't get any kind of promotion are media attention.

Are you kidding me? Doesn't he always talk about hating all the success that comes with being in Fleetwood mac? Okay, maybe not the actual success, but the road to it, and all the side effects of it. The most recent quote:

"Fleetwood Mac has been one of the joys of my life, but that kind of success is a double-edged sword. You're under tremendous pressure to sell as much and as often as possible, to become an assembly line, to feed the philosophy"

I think he talks a good game, but he loves the life it gives him - who wouldn't

I think Mick (?) put it accurately in the DR doc that LB might see himself as the starving artist living in a cheap apt. enslaved to his art - but that is not the life he lives.

The live he lives has nothing to do with the artistic values he has. He's proven that with 3 solo-albums and will again with his fourth.

I know that you rate him almost as high as I do, ;) , but I think it is not only blablabla of him everytime he talks about the double-edged sword the FM-succes was in his life as an artist. He really struggles with it, and tries to put out music as he wants it. and the couple of times he did it on his own he didnot put any water in the wine. The only times he did that, he didnot do it under his own name. Something I respect highly. Despite the fact that he has 84 bathrooms.

No way. Sorry guys but I am sure the album won`t be a commercial success. Even worse, it will completely stay out of any public attention. It will be less than OOTC saleswise. A few thousand FM and LB fans will buy it. The rest won`t even get to know that there is a new album and if it wasn't like that it wouldn`t change a thing. LB is an absolutely unknown trademark. Even the well promoted SYW didn`t sell as good as they expected and FM was/is a trademark.
I am also absolutely sure that the number of sales has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the music. (I am pretty sure the album will be quite good, with new ideas and a fresh direction) A single hit is also impossible nowadays. I don`t think there even will be a single. I just hope that this won`t have any influence on the decision to release the second album next year. The lack of sales for OOTC was one reason for the 14 years-wait for this one...

P.S. It even starts with that Reprise doesn`t mention him or his record on their website. He doesn`t exist for them, although they release his album in 3 weeks

yeah, those fockers even tried to put some rocksongs from the planned second one on this album. Great that he stayed with his initial idea.

Not sure about that. Although I'm sure there was disappointment with OOTC sales wise compared to the exposure and promotion he received along with a few vids and touring - I'm sure he could have put something out with any other label, big or small, between OOTC and now. Like Fleetwood Mac, I'm sure each album agreement he has gone into have been "one off" deals - nothing long term and binding with multi albums required.

Yeah sure, he could have released 3 albums during this time. I wish he had!!!But he wants major labels and the OOTC sales were not very encourageing (how the heck do you spell that one? with e or not? Please teach me a lesson). So the problems with Warner/Reprise around 97-2001 led to SYW instead of GOS as far as my perception goes.

Yeah, god forbid the record company tries to get something interesting for radio on the record. That's what he gets for continuing to stick with the major label system when he could easily go somewhere like Nonesuch which is the best of both worlds.

Guys? October 3rd is also the release date for The Killers, Beck, Evanescence, and even The Decemberists, which I think could probably sell more than LB. I also just realized it's the release for the new Pernice Brothers record, which I am more excited for than UTS... lol.

I will be pleased to see him debut in the top twenty. Anything better than that- all bets are off.

sNot talking about what he does or doesn't want.

I don't think it will reach #1. Lucky if it reaches top 10. Let's face it. Great art works doesn't go with sales. Remember OOTC, his best work according to critics but.. no single reached the top. I think his most popular single has been Trouble, hasn't it?

Besides, in these times of Spears, TImberlakes, Daddy Yankees, etc.. a Lindsey's N.1 album would be very weird. Great to us, but weird for statistics.

Anything is possible. Remember Dylan just hit #1 with his latest - and it's his first album since 1976 to do so - plus that first week was his largest single sales week ever. I don't think he's got any singles out either.

Most of the time when things like that happen, it all has to do with timing. Nothing else really challenged it for the pole position.

I tend to believe that these older artists that put out real music will again gain popularity once the masses get sick and tired of the crap that is still being sold as music. At least that's what I want to beleive.

Ya, no. It might chart, but it certainly won't go #1. I bet it'll do better than OOTC, though.

I think the deal with Lindsey (and I know I'm not saying anything new) and fame is that he likes the validation...for him. It's been said that he's not what you call a team player. It's got to be frustrating to produce Fleetwood Mac, have the band get a lot of praise, go produce your solo album and only hear crickets - you get critical acclaim, but not sales.

You don't have to tell a person, "Eric Clapton...you know, the Yardbirds/Cream/Derek & the Dominoes?" Where as I usually have to mention Fleetwood Mac where most of the time I hear, "Oh, she's great!"

As for a number one...I agree with everybody else. And pretty much cringe to think that Paris Hilton will rank higher than Lindsey. (A little salt in the wound, there...)

If you mean No. 1 on Amazon... well I suppose it's possible but I wouldn't count on it. Maybe top 50.

As for the US Billboard/UK Album charts... I don't think he's going to get very far. His album isn't being promoted as well as it should, Lindsey isn't a big name, even if he released a single it would get played on the likes of Radio 2, which certainly wouldn't make it a hit or do too much for the album.
I think he will be lucky to reach top 50. In the UK "Rock Album" charts I think he can do top 10, but that isn't much since Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath's last solo album reach top 10 in that chart and hardly sold any copies. (he has the same problem as Lindsey where noone cares about him outside his band).

I'd say close to zero. Lindsey had his chance to score big solo chart numbers in the early and mid eighties. As most of us know, he chose the "artistic" path and made mostly quirky, off center tunes for his solo work. I am sure that if he had come out with an album like "Out of the Cradle" during the early eighties it may have performed well, but most of his other solo work just isn't for the masses including most of what I've heard of UTS.

If Lindsey really cared about this album doing well, he would have promoted the hell out of it. IMO, there has been no promotion for thid album whatsoever. Those 2 articles really don't even count, seriously...If he thinks thats gunna do it I mean come on. There should at least be a single out by now. SOMETHING!

BTW The Killers will crush him in sales...."When You were Young" their new single has been out since July.

Ofcourse. The Killers make smart radiofriendly punkpop and sell an attitude under young people.

Lindsey makes - according to today's NY times - freak-folk cult items.
